Work Text:
Lois ran into her husband’s office with a phone in her iron grip. Her husband was wearing lead lined headphones that blocked out all sound around him so he could work on his latest piece. With Jon and Kon on the streets he’s more than comfortable doing so knowing his boys could handle anything and that if not one of them would get him.
Lois running into his office wasn’t a part of his plan. “Lois what’s wrong?” The woman ripped the headphones off his head.
“Jon called. He and Conner are both busy but something crashed into the big park and left a sizable crater. Nothing is there though, reports said it was a humanoid mass of purple light… this thing is just roaming our streets. If it’s an alien they have no clue what things are here-“ Clark took his wife’s hands in his to calm her. He took off his clothes to reveal the iconic suit he wears underneath and the handy retractable cape that Bruce made for him.
“I’ll handle it. All I need is for you to distract Perry if he notices I’m gone.” Lois scoffs, she could handle Perry White in her sleep.
With her confirmation Superman was on the case.
He started at the crater where this being landed. A small pool of blood made it clear that whoever landed here is injured. He may have a Confused, hurt and angry alien on his hands.
It took hours of searching before he heard the leering below him. The alien would have to wait. As he descended on the attackers the girl they were cornering growled and flipped them onto their backs in movements almost too fast for Clark to track. It’s only once the shock wears off that he notices the girls oddities.
Her long black hair falls in curly tresses down her back the tips and her bangs are a purple color. Her skin is just too golden to be human and her eyes are solid green, a feature he only saw in Tamaraneans. Her clothes consisted of a short armored dress that seemed more Amazonian that Tamaranean only offset by the armor pieces that clearly called back to the planet, even her wrist cuffs has the signature green stone that adorns their armor. All of the fabric from her dress to her boots is the same purple color of her dyed hair. Part of her armor is a crown like Diana’s that seems to connect to a plate of armor around her neck. Her chest piece is a familiar bird that seems to throw a wrench in his other observations as it’s Nightwings bird emblazoned on her chest.
The girl herself couldn’t be older than 13 despite her statuesque height and musculature. She looked scared. It tugged on his heart as not only Superman but as a father.
“Hi there. Im Kal-El what’s your name?” The girl seemed surprised but recovered quickly enough. Her scared green eyes turned determined by just a shift of her eyebrows.
“Im Mar’i. I don’t know where I am and my body hurts” The father in him cried out when seeing her injuries. She had blood leaking from her right eyebrow and was favoring her left leg.
“I want to help you. I have some supplies to fix up your wounds and then we’ll talk to some of my friends about getting you home, okay” Mar’i seemed cautious but after assessing her lousy situation agreed to his help. Besides injured or not she could fight her way out if need be. Part of her thinks that it won’t be necessary at all and this man could be trusted.
Clark subtly texted Lois to head home because he found the alien and he needed competent help with her.
CLARK: Hey Lo found the Alien. She’s injured.
LOIS: oh no…how bad is it?
CLARK: Not too bad but she’s only a kid, I took her to our place to fix her up, I think I could use a mothers touch though.
LOIS: I’m omw. Jon and Kon are too.
After that was over he showed the girl how to use the shower and left some of Lois’ clothes for her to wear. When she got out he put bandages on her eyebrow and wrapped up her right leg so that it would heal right.
Mar’i wore a faded Columbia sweatshirt and loose but short sweatpants both belonged to his wife. Her long wet hair was in a messy bun on top of her head. Lois got home right as things got awkward.
“Hi sweetie I’m Lois. Mind telling us about yourself?” The kind eyes of the woman in front of her calmed the girl until she was able to sit still and stare at the hands that had been picking at themselves.
“My mother was Tamaranean and my father was human. They both died when I was a baby. My godmother took me to Themyscira to be safe while the universe tore itself apart. Tamaran fell without its Queen and the Titans fell without their leader. The JLA had been retired for years. Most heroes had the titans were the only people who were able to stand. Hero after hero everyone died. Without heroes to protect it Earth fell too. The Amazons were too late to join the fight. I don’t know how I got here, one second I was fighting a losing battle the next I was falling from the sky into your world.”
Clark froze. He knew what she was implying and by the stunned look on his wife’s face so did lois. They were looking at Dickie’s baby.
“Your dad was Nightwing and Starfire was your mom?” The question stunned the young girl.
“Yes. Do you know them?” Clark smiled sadly at the girl.
“He’s family to us” that information made her throw herself into his chest.
“Can you call my dad? I think I need him.” Clark made eye contact with Lois as she left the room phone in hand.
“Lois is now”
“Thank you”

Lois dialed the familiar number and smiled when it only rung twice.
(“Aunt Lois? Are you okay?”) the question made her snort.
“Yeah kid I’m okay but I think you should come to Metropolis ASAP boy wonder.”
(“You’re freaking me out Lois.”)
“Just get here soon. We have a surprise for you. I’ll explain when you’re in town meet me at our place in 30 okay?”
(“Alright I’m getting a sitter for Haley then I’ll be right there. See you soon Lois”)
“See you soon boy wonder”
After the call Lois reentered the sitting room Mar’i was back on the couch talking quietly with Jon. Conner and Clark were talking in whispers at the other end of the room.
“I called your dad he’ll be here soon. I just have to explain everything to him in person then I’ll take him to you okay?”
Mar’i leaves the couch and gingerly wraps her arms around the reporter. “Thank you Mrs.Lane.”

Exactly 30 minutes later Lois is greeting her nephew in the shaded area of the park that they would talk in when he was young.
“What’s the deal with the giant crater in the park?”
Lois grimaces “That’s what I called you to talk about. The crater was caused by a half-tamaranean girl.”
Dick frowned suddenly very nervous and concerned. “Is the kid okay? Did you need Kory’s number?”
Lois took one of his hands in hers. “That’s probably a good idea, the reason we called you is because she’s from another universe. She’s stuck here. She’s a little girl with shining green eyes, a downturned nose, and golden brown skin. Her dress has an armored bird on the chest. She spoke of knowing the Amazons.”
Dick is a detective, one of the best in the world. He has an idea of where his aunt is taking this. “Lois please be straight with me because my imagination is going to destroy me” the woman smiled sympathetically.
“Dickie she’s yours and kory’s” with that the man’s denials shattered.
“Is she okay?” Lois squeezed his hand.
“Just a few cuts and bruises. She’s asking for you too.”
Dick looked terrified “what if I can’t help her, if he’s better and I let her down” Lois frowns.
“That little girl lost her parents as a baby there is nobody for her to compare you to. She grew up on Themyscira.” Dick let his tears fall.
“What if I’m not enough Lois?” Lois laughs
“Oh Dickie you can’t be. All she needs is for you to be there and to try your best. You won’t be alone either. You’ll have your friends and family to help you. You’ll have Kory too.” This seemed to help.
“Take me to her Lois”
The walk to their apartment was a quiet one. Lois told him what she knew of the girl and her world as the walked and Dick contacted Kory to get in touch when available.
“We’re home” Lois called out. Clark met them at the door and gave Dick a tight hug.
“She’s in the guest room. Go to her’.” With that final note Dick all but ran to the room he spent so many long nights in during fights with B.
When he opened to door he didn’t know what to expect.
“You look like my mom”
When you took away the obviously alien traits she looked more like his mother than he did. The nose, mouth and eye shape and darker skin all screamed of Mary Grayson. That’s probably why she got named what she did.
“Are you my dad?” The young girl took a hesitant step towards him and his heart soared at the hopeful glint in her eyes.
“Yeah I am.”
Then he had an armful of his daughter. Nothing felt more right. Despite his fear just holding her seemed to ground him. Guide him even. Like his very own north star. “I got you starshine.”
