Summary
Jason Carver went missing three weeks before his high school graduation.
It was all anybody could talk about.
The candlelight vigil occurred the night before graduation in a clearing right at the edge of the forest. Even the trees seemed to huddle over the meager, flickering flames, grieving side-by-side with the people of Hawkins.
Because Jason was handsome, popular, and athletic. He was somebody, and everybody knew it.
And they found his car, and they found his shoes.
But they didn’t find Jason.
The candles, provided by the church, were cheap and small. They dripped white wax onto flimsy paper barriers that failed to protect the cold hands beneath them.
The moon retreated behind an unexpected swath of heavy, gray clouds.
The trees held their breath.
Something was coming.
AKA: Jason Carver comes back wrong and fixates on Steve Harrington. He wants Steve really, really bad. Steve wants to die (for unrelated reasons), but will the two of them become (gasp) friends? Or perhaps (harder gasp) more than friends?
