Are we vibing? (‘cause I like your vibe)

Summary:

“Like if you were going to pick up a guy in the bar right now, how would you give off the vibe?”

“Uhhh, I don’t know, I’d probably stare at a guy’s ass for a bit, ask if I can buy him a drink if he seemed interested? I haven’t really thought about it. Why?”

“You just asked to buy me a drink.”

“Yeah, it’s my turn? Are you… Eddie are you worried that I’m trying to pick you up??”

“What - - no,”

“Eddie I know you’re straight, man. I’m not going to start flirting with you.”

“AndwhatifIwantedyouto?”

Notes:

Idk okay. Please tell me if this is atrocious to read as dialogue only and I’ll never subject you to it again.

Work Text:

“Was it… different? With Tommy?”

“What? The sex?”

“Yeah, I mean… all of it, I guess.”

“Hmm, no not really. Not as much as I thought it might be? Like yeah, some things were different, obviously. But a lot of it was just… the same.”

“Huh. Yeah, I mean that makes sense. A body is a body.”

“Wow, you should write poetry.”

“Shut up.”

“What makes you ask?”

“Oh, nothing. Just curious, I suppose. About, uh, how you… knew?”

“Knew what? What to do?”

“No, no not that. How you, um, knew about Tommy.”

“Knew he was gay? I didn’t really. It was just a… vibe. We had a vibe.”

“A vibe?”

“Yes, a vibe. Have you never vibed?”

“I don’t know how to answer that, but that wasn’t what I was asking. How did you know about you?”

Oh! Me. Hmm. I guess that was kind of a vibe too? I just thought he was hot, and then I started thinking about doing… vibe-related things with him, and I was into it. I guess I’ve always found guys attractive but I’d never really paid too much attention to it before.”

“Sure. Right. That makes sense.”

“Yeah. I guess I hadn’t really thought about it.”

“Why Tommy though, do you think?”

“He was your friend first, Eddie. You know, he was… cool. And hot, as I mentioned.”

“And the vibe.”

“Yes, exactly. And the vibe.”

“Do you think you’re going to keep dating men?”

“Sure. I’m kind of up for anything, I guess. I’d like someone who… gets me. A little more than Tommy did, I think. It felt like sometimes he just liked the look of me more than… the me of me.”

“Yeah. I noticed that.”

“You did?”

“You deserve someone who’s in it for the you of you, Buck. He wasn’t…that.”

“Again with the poetry, Eddie.”

“Shut it. You know what I mean.”

“I’m getting another round. You want another of the same?”

“How do you give off… the vibe?”

“What?”

“What was that?”

“You heard me.”

“Are you serious? Why would you want me to do that?”

“Why do you think , Buck?”

“I’m so confused.”

“I don’t know how to give off the vibe, okay! I don’t know how to do whatever it is Tommy did to get your attention, but I’m losing my mind over here, Buck.”

“You want… my attention?”

“Yes! And I’ve been staring at your ass and buying you drinks for years! And then Tommy comes along and suddenly you’re into dudes. Who aren’t me. And I just don’t get what I’m doing wrong.”

“Okay! Okay. Okay . Well. This is a lot of information. But okay, so. Primarily, Eddie, the problem is that I did not know that you were into dudes. Did you consider sharing that information with me at any point before now, maybe?”

“I didn’t know I had to!”

“I can’t read your mind!”

“Yes you can!”

“Okay, well sometimes I can but not when it comes to this! I’m not a reliable mind narrator when it comes to this!”

“Why not this?”

“Eddie. Oh my god. Eddie. This is ridiculous. I’m gonna pass out.”

“Why. Not. This.”

“Because I’m in love with you, dumbass! So my judgement has been a little clouded! But I was choosing to ignore it because you lead me to believe you were straight.”

“Well I’m very much not straight, actually.”

“Yes I’m starting to pick up on that.”

“So. What do we do now?”

“Are you fucking kidding me, Eddie.”

“What?”

“You just dropped that with no plan?”

“Well. To be honest, I’ve spent so much time thinking about how to tell you I’m in love with you in a very gay way that I haven’t put much thought into anything after that.”

“And that’s what you went with? Subtly dropping it mid-sentence after tilting my world on its axis in a bar on a Tuesday night?”

“It does appear that way, yes.”

“This is ridiculous.”

“It is.”

“I’m gonna kiss you now, okay?”

“Please.”

Holy fuck.”

“Very much so yeah.”

I’m actually not done with you yet.”

“Just to be clear, who exactly was your bi-awakening?”

Eddie .”

“Are you saying it was me or are you annoyed that I stopped making out with you to ask that?”

Both.

“Do you think we’re vibing? It kind of feels like we’re vibing.”

“Yes. Stop talking and come back here.”
