“We should make it a road trip, Eddie! We never hang out anymore, Eddie! It’ll be so fun, Eddie!” Eddie mimics, his voice trailing as he disappears into the tiny bathroom connected to their Budget Queen motel room.
“We’re not stranded,” Buck scoffs. “And you weren’t saying that when you were stuffing your face with the tamales that I found, or the cherry pie that I read about.”
Or, there was only one bed. And a lot of bickering.

1. the entire waiting room turns to look at him as if they were expecting a celebrity
2. the flustered receptionist looks up, sees Eddie, and says “oh thank god”
3. what is unmistakably Buck’s voice booms down the hall, slurred, but clear as day

Summary
If someone ever asked Buck if he’d had a real home, he’d say no.
Not really.
He had a series of buildings, of places that held memories he’d rather forget and nightmares he desperately tried to escape from. They were places he went back to out of necessity, somewhere he could crawl back to after a long shift and get a few hours of undisturbed sleep.
They were never anything special.
They were just buildings.
That was all they’d ever be.
