Work Text:

It all happened so fast.

The call from Veronica, asking Kurt how they knew it had “always been a fantasy of hers to have two guys at once”. Ofcourse, back then, they heard some small giggle from her, but they thought it was just out of nervousness.

Kurt telling Ram what she wants, then punching it in with each other like usual and excitedly getting ready for meeting Veronica, not opposing their rumor coming true. Veronica was a hot chick after all…

Well, she was popular, and who wouldn't want to have sex with a popular girl to brag about it?

Them coming to the place she had told them to go, seeing her waiting there, looking happy and like she was containing her giggles or something, like it was funny. But they didn't notice.

Her telling them to strip for her, which they gladly did. Anything for a pretty girl, right? Yeah, because who would give up this opportunity? They'd be weird not to, especially after making up those rumors. Everyone would do this if they got the chance.

When they were done stripping, Veronica had told them she wanted them to rip her clothes off of her, which got them eager. Finally some action, and it'd probably be fun to do with each other as well. Ram and Kurt both tearing Veronica's clothes off of her- that would be exciting to do. Well, that's what they thought it would be, or what they had expected it to be, considering all the other times they had done something with girls. Ofcourse, it was never this exact situation, but what could go wrong here, right?

...

But that's when it hit them.

The first gunshot.

Some guy, the guy they had beaten up earlier, the new guy, just- just appeared out of nowhere and- and shot Ram. Veronica seemed totally in on it too. It terrified Kurt.

Screaming how they had killed his best friend, trying to climb over the fence after making a run for it and that led to the stupid guy saying some vague words about dinosaurs -what were they, five?- and then shooting Kurt as well.

It took just a few seconds longer for Kurt to actually die, as Ram got shot in the throat immediately and died, while when Kurt got shot it took some more time for everything to actually stop working, which made him suffer some more.

God, thinking back to it, it did really hurt. It sucked.

Everything had just been… Total darkness for the two of them. They couldn't see anything, and it was almost like they couldn't feel anything either. It was just cold, and… empty. But not a good empty, neither was it a bad empty. They didn't really know how to describe it, but if asked, they wouldn't want to go back again. It was strange, unfamiliar.

And then, they snapped awake.

Kurt shot up, his eyes widening as he gasped for breath, before realizing he didn't really feel the need for that anymore. He felt really… light, for some reason. It took some time for him to take in the view and sounds around him, recognizing the Church's paintings, the walls, the crosses… His dad's voice, Ram's dad's voice, everything slowly started to click, but he needed some more time to process, before he heard a voice he immediately turned to.

“Yo, man, what the fuck is happening?”

It was Ram.

But Ram didn't look like Ram. Sure, he had the same physical body, but Ram also had a bullet wound in his throat, blood tracing his chest, still being in his underwear like when they stripped for Veronica, and he was also… a bit see-through. No joke, he looked like a ghost. A literal ghost.

And that's when Kurt realized that he did too. He looked down to see him lying in an open casket, and when he tried to touch it, his hand went right through it.

Deciding to try and stand up to see if he could still touch the ground, he suddenly felt himself floating in the air. Floating?! What the fuck was happening here?!

“How the fuck did you do that?” Ram's voice was heard, before being overruled by the sound of their two dad's talking about Kurt and Ram being gay. Well, not both of the dads, but Ram's dad-

Wait, gay? Since when had they ever been...?

“...Huh?”

Both Ram and Kurt said at the same time, looking confused as Ram started floating as well, this time not even caring as they just looked at the two fathers. Ram's dad was talking about how he was proud to have Ram as his son, despite him being a homosexual or whatever, and Kurt's dad seemed desperate to get out of there, which Kurt and Ram didn't blame him for, before Kurt took in the things they were saying.

“Are they saying we're gay? Since when did we ever give off the faintest idea we were some fags?”

Ram realized it too, looking perplexed as they listened:

“They were not dirty! They just had flair! They were two bright red ribbons in the Lord's long hair!” Ram's dad sang, to which Kurt and Ram shot each other uncomfortable looks. Flair? Red ribbons in the Lord's long hair? What the fuck was he talking about?

“Well, I uh… never knew your dad thought that way, Ram.” Kurt mumbled, before being interrupted by Ram's dad shouting.

“Paul! I can't believe that you still refuse to get a clue. After all that we've been through-”

After all that they've been through- what? What were they talking about?

“I'm talking you and me!”

“In the summer of 83.”

….

What?

“What did he just say?” Ram spit out, looking disgusted at the revelation. His dad was a fag? One of the people he disgusted most? What a shithead.

“There's no way they did anything together man.” Kurt said, still in denial, looking at his father, only to find him staring awkwardly at the ground like some flustered teenage girl. Please, he had to say he had no idea what Bill, Ram’s dad, was talking about. He couldn't have his dad be a homosexual.

“That was one hell of a fishing trip.”

There was no fucking way this was happening.

Their dad's were gay.

For each other, nonetheless.

That was… disgusting… and gave an incredible weird sensation to both Kurt and Ram, no idea of what though. Seeing their dads just accept it like it was normal, was… abnormal. They had always been raised like it was crazy, something only pansies were.

Kurt and Ram didn't take their eyes off of their fathers, watching them with shock for a few seconds, then at each other, then back at their fathers and so on.

Eventually, when they started to kiss, Ram and Kurt turned away, not wanting to see that. Instead, Kurt decided to look around the attendees of their funeral, floating/flying (idk) around the church to check out who was there, and seeing Kurt doing so made Ram do the same to get his mind off of everything happening in the front at their caskets and bodies.

Their classmates were there, their coach- who was crying in a way they didn't even know was possible, which made both of them feel a bit more prideful at the fact they got coach to cry, and Ram also saw his little sister, Rachel, to which he paused for a few seconds, seeing the tears in her eyes at the sight of her dead brother. It made Ram feel incredibly guilty for a few seconds, wanting to go over there and hug her, comfort her or something, anything was fine.

You see, even if Ram didn't look like a soft type, which he definitely wasn't, he still cared about some people, and one of those was his sister. Even though he argued with his little sister from time to time and usually found her incredibly annoying, he also cared for her and wanted to protect her as much as he could. So having her see him, dead with his best friend, with their father talking about being gay, must be incredibly confusing for her.

Kurt noticed Ram’s silence and pause, so he instantly followed his gaze which led him to Ram’s sister, ofcourse. Kurt started to feel a bit bad, so he got over to him and stood next to him, looking between him and his little sister with pity in his eyes.

“I'm sorry man. You good?” He said, feeling genuinely sorry for him, which wasn't a regular occurrence.

Ram stayed quiet for a few more seconds, staring at his sister as he stared at her with sadness filling his eyes, before trying to shrug it off and act cool again, which he always did in these scenarios. It made Kurt a bit annoyed to see him shove it off that quickly, knowing it would only hurt him in the long run, but hey, who was he to judge?

“Yeah, she can handle herself.”

‘That wasn't what I asked’ Kurt almost wanted to snap, knowing damn well that Ram would never be straight-forward about admitting he felt sad or guilty, but decided to just keep it to himself. If Ram couldn't handle it, he'd just come to him later. He had always done it like that, no reason for it to change now they were…

Yeah, what were they actually? They were dead, right? But they were still here. So if he'd have to guess they were just some ghosts that no one could see. Shitty as fuck, because even though he would be fine with only being able to communicate with Ram, he couldn't touch shit.

Ram looked around the people once more, still deep in thought. He wasn't the most intelligent guy out there, but contradictory to others’ beliefs, he still thought a lot when he was on his own. It was just that…. he wasn't on his own a lot. And considering he acted on impulse, that made people think he never thought.

But right now, he was thinking about his sister. She had to be fucking heartbroken to see him lying dead there- Goddamnit, maybe it was his fault. He shouldn't have gone out there without telling anyone, he should've listened to Kurt when he suggested they should send a text where they were. And now they were here, and he had to see his sister watch him be dead.

As he got deeper and deeper in his thoughts, debating on whose fault it was, he heard a giggle out of the back of the church. A familiar giggle- a giggle he had heard moments before he died. Veronica's giggle.

He instantly turned around, seeing her laughing with Jason Dean about some stupid joke he had made. That mother fucker, he was going to kill him-

Just as he was about to try and do something, he felt a small nudge from Kurt, and he turned around for a second to see what he wanted.

“Calm down, we're ghosts now man. They can't see us and we can't touch them.”

Oh, Ram hadn't even considered that. Of course he couldn't. He was dead, along with Kurt, which made them ghosts.

“Right, I knew that.” Ram mumbled, still staring Jason Dean down with a deadly gaze, and even though he couldn't touch him, he could see that the guy felt something, as he looked around for a moment before getting back to looking at the caskets and the two fathers talking about being gay.

“Heh.” Ram let out a confident huff. “Bet he could feel that.”

“Bet he did.” Kurt nodded, having a confident smirk on his face just like Ram.

There wasn't much to do at the funeral for the most part, but they still wanted to stay. It felt like they were obligated to- after all, it was their funeral.

After like… 20 minutes or so, everything was finally done, and everyone left the church. Ram had been looking around for girls he had hooked up with or he had been watching his sister, trying to look nonchalant while Kurt could clearly tell he did it on purpose. Meanwhile, Kurt had been looking around to see how he knew everyone here, how many people were there, and to explore the place a bit more. He had seen a few of their friends, most of them looking actually regretful, but some of them also looking high or something, which he did not blame them for.

As they walked outside the church since everyone had left and all, they suddenly heard someone clear their throat.

“Hello?” A sassy, feminine voice sounded which they obviously knew like no other, as they had spent much time talking about her during school with the other guys, or staring at her from across rooms etc.

It was Heather Chandler, standing there in her red sleeping gown with a little bit of blue substance coming out of her mouth.

Holy shit.

Notes:

Sorry that it was short yall!!

I hoped to make it a bit longer, but I ran out of things to write, because genuinely, what is there to write about two ghost in a funeral of themselves, especially if those ghosts are Kurt and Ram?

Anyways, I hope I didn't disappoint :)

I'll add more chapters later on🫡
