Work Text:
"I-i can't pilot that! N-no one told me h-how!"
What pathetic drivel. To think that this was his blood, his progeny. To think that she would be debased like this. He couldn't possibly be her legacy. "You must pilot it." The gall of this kid...
"I-i-i can't! Nowhere online had a tutorial for this! They had everything but the entry plug's controls!"
"How could it have leaked...?"
"No matter." His choice was made. "I will show you how it's done."

There wasn't time for a specialized plugsuit in his size. Briefs would have to do. The barest of protection against the cold, unfeeling metal beneath him. He didn't need glasses where he was going.
"Initiating start-up, Commander."
The LCL was lapping at his feet, his ankles, his calves and thighs and more. He shivered a shiver he hadn't felt in a decade. "Understood, Akagi. A plug depth of five meters should be more than enough."
"It's already been set at three meters, sir. We can't get it any further than that."
"Are you sure this is a good idea, sir?"
Good idea or not, it was their only hope. He was already swimming in his seat, and unfamiliar colors were passing him by. Unfamiliar sensations. Unfamiliar thoughts.
Familiar motions and feelings.
"...Eighty percent sync, sir."
His hands twitched. His eyes were seeing clearer than they ever had before. "Launch the Evangelion."
Every breath was better than the last.

That thing stood there.
"There's a pallet rifle to your right, d-sir."
"Understood, son." He was better at this than he thought possible. Perhaps he had read their work.
Perhaps he wasn't a waste of space.
Such worthless thoughts were for later. Now was the time for action. He could feel the heavy metal of the trigger, the recoil of the gun as car-sized bullets ripped through the air. He could hear them dent uselessly against the Angel's AT-Field. "The gun was of no effect." His words were even less than that.
It clattered away to his right, and he felt a new grip in his hand. A knife, several stories long and as sharp as a kitchen knife. All he had to do was get in close.

The Angel's field was tough. Their's was tougher. They drew themselves back, and pushed. The strain was unreal. The collusion of two AT-fields strained their minds.
They held strong.
They held victorious as they felt the knife slip through and into the Angel's core.
He was tired. The battery showed three minutes of remaining power, and he didn't even notice the cord get cut.
He loved Yui. He knew she still loved him.
"You did it, sir!"
Perhaps their son wasn't worthless after all.

JESUS FUCK HE CAN'T FEEL A THING. HIS FIELD IS BARELY HOLDING ON. OH GOD. WHY WAS THERE SO MUCH POWER IN SUCH A SIMPLE ANGEL?!
