Chapter Text
“Nope, nope, ugh how hard is it to find a book I haven't done yet?”
Chase groaned as he finished looking through the children's section of the library. He made his way over to a nearby bench and sat himself down, thinking of different books he could try.
“Hmm I could try- no he'd definitely find that one, maybe an older version? No definitely not, last one was horrific and never to be brought up again.”
Chase thought to himself. He was looking for a new book in the library, one his rival would not find. Suddenly, an idea popped into his mind.
Chase began to make his way over to the checkout area to ask a very important question.
“Hello and welcome to the Horizon Placard Library! what can I do for you today?"
The lady at the desk asked with a gleeful tone.
"Actually I do have something you can do! Do you have any really, really, really old books that people don't like anymore? Any genre is fine by the way!”
he stated, dragging out that last really.
“Hmm, I think we do! Although, are you sure? This one is known for being dropped pretty quick-"
"don't worry that's exactly the kind of book I'm looking for!”
Chase added in with a smile plastered on his face.
“Okay then..”
with that, the lady at the desk stood up and made her way towards a cart filled with books Chase has never heard of, maybe he'd have to come back one day and check those out as well, see if Buddy's annoying jerky self had any of those books.
The lady returned holding a tan colored book, the spine having a gold shine to it, although the book itself looked worn out, the pages were an off white yellow color. She checked the book out then handed it to Chase.
“well good luck then! Hope you enjoy it as much as you can!”
She said smiling down at him. “I don't think I'm getting a late growth spurt..” He thought to himself with visible disappointment. He thanked her, then took the book from her hands and made his way out of the library.
As he was walking home, Chase decided to skim through the book just to get a good grasp on what he'd be experiencing.
“Where winter crows go to bloom?”
He questioned aloud.
“This sounds like one of those corny love books Deacon would read… eh I could give it a shot!”
he said, opening the book reading only the first few pages.
“So basically all I'm doing is working at a diner and my nemesis is my boss? Yeah that totally makes sense.”
Chase said with a hint of sarcasm in his voice as he walked along the sidewalk. He closed the book shut and continued making his way back home.
“Deacon! Hey deaconnnnn!”
Chase yelled while entering the front door of his home.
“What is it now Chase? Can't you see I'm trying to study?”
He questioned, holding his text book slightly open, which just so happened to be upside down
"Uh-huh yeah, studying totally.” Chase replied
“Yes, studying.”
“Well I didn't know you could read upside-down! That's impressive” he commented sarcastically.
“What do you-? oh!”
Deacon said, whispering that last part as he frantically started to turn his text book over the right way.
“Besides you trying to hide the fact you're reading another love novel, I found a pretty decent book for us to go into, wanna check it out?”
Chase said, secretly hoping Deacon would map out the story for him, like every single other time they enter a new book.
“Sorry Chases not this time. I actually have to study for these things. doctor, remember?”
Deacon said, using hand signals to point back at his text book.
“Whaaat? Cmon, we all know you're actually just gonna sit here and read your cringey romance novels, but fine! I'll go do it by myself!”
Chase states, as he started to make his way up the stairs to his room then atic.
“I'm not- wait who's we?!”
“I'm already leaving byee!”
He entered the attic and was greeted by a lovely lady named silver.
“Good day Chase! How was your search?”
“successfully unsuccessful…but mostly successful!”
Chase announced while moving across the room to sit beside silver, placing his newly found book down beside his lap.
“Oh dear, what made it unsuccessful?”
Silver questioned, her head slightly tilted while looking up at her dearest friend.
“Well you know how I was trying to get a children's book to go into that Buddy couldn't find? Well that was the unsuccessful part, but! I did find a horribly boring book that I know he would never go into!”
Chase beamed, feeling proud of his accomplishment.
“Well that is just excellent Chase! Oh I have just the most dazzling of outfit ideas!”
Silver exclaimed, placing her hand atop Chases.
“And I can't wait to see how I look in them! you always make the best outfits silver!”
Chase complimented, visibly seeing Silvers face light up with joy.
After their gleeful conversation Chase introduced the book to Silver, saying how the librarian didn't recommend it so he knew he should get it. Silver claimed to have never seen the book before but will make him an amazing outfit, from what brief information she was given.
With that, silver returned to her key form from when he first met her and entered the book.
With a bright flash, Chase was now inside the story, now going to play out its many twists and turns. If only he knew what horrors he would face.
