Summary
”I'm so, so sorry. For everything. I promise, I'll do whatever it takes to make it right.” Master Hargrove never takes his eyes off his dear, beloved subordinate. He asks hesitantly, “Daniel, darling, would you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?” His question comes like he already knows the response. “Whatever your answer, I beg of you, please don’t hate me for what I’ve done.”
He waits, and so does Daniel, but he doesn't know what for.
Daniel isn’t stupid.
He knows what his master is doing.

Daniel should detest his master the same way he detests his acquaintances; the men his master allows to use him, no matter how unwilling. But following yet another nightmarish cycle of not only suffering at their hands, but witnessing the full extent of his master's rage, he sees the now drunken man in a different light: kind and affectionate and still so damn manipulative.
Daniel comes to understand that his master is just as broken, and that his master truly needs him, especially at night. This is all he's ever wanted.
After all, this is supposed to be his happy ending, isn't it?
