Summary
Gakushuu has always loved that humans are born with companion animals. Manifestations of their souls, that tend to reveal how they’re truly feeling.
He got himself a beautiful, elegant white cat, with the brightest of blue eyes. She struts around beside him and sometimes hitches a ride on his shoulders, but she exudes grace with her very being.
He names her Masami.
And Masami, the thing that has helped him through his fathers personality change, the very being that has kept him alive for so long, completely stabs him in the back by sprinting up to and rubbing against the fluffy black cat that belongs to Akabane Karma.
Something else their animals do. When they find the animal that is compatible with them, they know. Each animal has a specific partner, never more than one, and no interest in any other.
Which means, the people who those animals are connected to are soulmates.

“I can’t believe you,” he sighs, lifting Masami up so they’re more face to face, “I can’t believe you like bad boy’s .”
Masami purrs, and Gakushuu knows she’s saying, “So do you.”

Gakuhou hums, but the pleased look in his eyes tells Gakushuu that was the right answer. “You really ought to keep that cat at home,” the principal suggests, turning back to his open laptop, “It’s no good to have your emotions out in the open, after all. In any scenario.”
Gakushuu hums a little. “I’ll be heading to class now.”
“Hm.”
Gakushuu leaves. Masami is outside the door, fur puffed a little in her shared fear. Gakushuu scoops her up and walks away quickly, clutching her close.
…he could never lock Masami away like that man did to his own animal. How he could ignore the pain of forcing his dog to stay in a crate, he’ll never know.
Only a monster could handle doing such a thing.

“Go stay with Akabane,” Gakushuu tells Masami softly, “Don’t let him do anything else stupid.”
She bumps her head against his arm and jumps out the window with Akabane’s cat in tow. Gakushuu frowns a little, then taps more into his hidden affection to ensure Masami will really smother that idiot.
Dummy… he hasn’t even met Gakushuu yet. As his soulmate . He can’t go and kill himself when Gakushuu still wants to work up to talking to him.

“And call me Karma. No one uses my last name.”
A pretty pink blooms to Asano’s cheeks. “…you can call me Gakushuu, if you’d like.” Karma stares. Yoru nuzzles into Gakushuu’s hand.
The white cat is particularly affectionate today, and Karma doesn’t understand why. “Someone’s soulmate is in love,” Rio teases, and Karma snorts a little. It’s quickly drowned out by the cat smothering his face with her fur.

Karma greets both cats when they finish their drills, kissing Masami on the head, and Gakushuu swells with so much affection that Masami keels right over for him. “Seriously,” Okajima complains, “Why did you get such a loving soulmate?”

He quickly snatches Masami up and hides behind the tree around the back of the changerooms. “Why do you do this to me?” Masami presses her paws to his face.
Gakushuu tucks her into his side, sighing softly. “You could be a little less affectionate,” he says, “You know? It’s embarrassing how much you smother him.”
Masami meows, her tail flicking. Gakushuu blushes. “It doesn’t matter if that’s what I want to do, it’s too much! Surely you can tone it down?” They both know she can’t.

Gakushuu slowly puts Masami on the ground, then spins on his heel and tries to escape. Karma catches his wrist. “Oi!”
Gakushuu doesn’t face him, cheeks a bright red. Masami tucks herself away in Yoru’s fur to hide in her embarrassment.

“Masami,” Karma coos, cradling the cat, “That’s your name. I love you, Masami.” Masami bumped their heads together.
Yoru is in the middle of suffocating Gakushuu in his affection, and Gakushuu melts into the ground. After so long of seeing this cat and knowing who he is, he’s finally receiving the manifestation of his soulmate's love.
He just wishes it wasn’t in the classroom .
“Who would’ve thought,” Rio coos, “That the big bad Asano Gakushuu was a softie .”
