Sometimes I wonder why I still bother using these words. Class, classmates, classroom…
The blank hall where our wheelchairs are lined up in neat rows next to each other, with armed guards standing by the walls keeping an eye on us, is nothing like any classroom anywhere in the world, and my classmates… well. Gakushuu Asano drops his luggage and stares dumbfounded at the redhead lounging on the rightmost bed of his new dorm room, eyes closed and hands behind his head.
Karma Akabane opens one eye, then the other and mirrors Gakushuu's shocked expression for about two seconds before slowly breaking into a grin.
"Now, this... definitely won't be boring."
Or: Karma and Gakushuu happen to be assigned roommates in their first year of high school.

Nagisa Shiota feels through hurting himself. Karma Akabane feels through hurting others. They're numb, so it's only natural for them to connect, as unhealthy as that friendship may turn out to be. Nagisa struggles to balance school, the weight of his mother's expectations and disappointment in him, and a job (hobby?) consisting of selling his body so he can earn enough money to get out of that godforsaken house. Moreover, he's forced to compartmentalize his extreme mental illness, the trauma of losing his father, and the trauma of dealing with his mother's grief of losing his father. Karma, on the other hand, attempts to suppress his attachment to the other, both unadjusted to and terrified of the idea of caring about another human being. With the constant need for violence and the persistent emptiness of his parents' absence, he fails to warm up to the vulnerable idea of mutual affection.
While the two scramble to hold each other together, Gakushuu Asano is separately cracking under the expectations of his many unwanted roles, as the principal's son, the head of the student council, and captain of the soccer team, and resorts to idiotic coping mechanisms and friendships that could ruin his social life if discovered.

Karma Akabane, an outcast even in a group of outcasts (Not that Ritsu or Itona were any similar to the class) was always embarrassingly lonely. He'd never admit how his friends in Class 3-E had helped with his loneliness, and he'd be d*mned if he told a teacher. They obviously couldn't care less.

How Karma's life full of nothing but loneliness, turns into one with love from his friends and teachers as they unfold the harsh situation he is in.

While brainstorming plans for assassination with the class, Karma volunteers to do something incredibly dangerous for it, which confuses and concerns his classmates. He casually mentions how he nearly committed suicide when trying to kill Koro-sensei before and the class freaks out about it. They start acting differently around Karma
Main campus learns about Karma's cliff jump assassination too. Since the main campus doesn't know about Koro-sensei, they think that Karma is suicidal because of some major parental issues And proceed to make some more assumptions about how he is only aggressive because it's his way of asking for help.
This leads some forceful bonding between Karma and some of the other students who want to help him. Both classes swarm Karma with positive affection, which gets E-class extremely protective of Karma when around main campus students
