Chapter Text
She was running through a tunnel. No, wait- it wasn’t a tunnel, but an alley. Humans crowded behind her, shoving and yelling at her back. She hit the wall and started scrambling up it, trying desperately to stay out of reach. A hand grabbed her ankle and dragged her down into the seething mass of people. She screamed but quickly shut her mouth as the sun was blocked out by faces. They were all staring down at her, anger clear on her face. Suddenly there was a shift in the crowd and a young boy moved to stand directly over her. He bent down and whispered, “This is all your fault. You shouldn’t have come here. You’ve had your chance. You blew it. Don’t think I won’t punish for that.” She flinched and curled up on her side as the boy straightened and turned to the crowd. “Let her be, we have better things to do.” The humans followed him as he walked off, leaving her huddled on the ground shaking. Before she could get up, he reappeared beside her. “And do remember- you still have one last job. Do. It. RIGHT.”
I shot upright, panting. The noises still echoed in my mind, reverberating in a cavern while thoughts raced past. I clamped my hands over my ears and rolled off my bed, heading to my desk where I knew I kept my headphones. I grabbed my phone with one hand off the charging port and then pulled my headphones over my ears, relaxing once the music started playing. It had been only a dream. Only a dream. I sighed.
“Lia?”
I jumped and pressed pause, standing up from the floor. “Yeah Angel?”
Mikey walked tentatively into my room, looking questioningly at my headphones. “Are you- are you okay? You aren’t normally up this late-”
I shook my head. “I couldn’t sleep. Why are you up?”
“Same.” I sat on the bed and patted the spot beside me. “C’mon, twin snuggles.”
Mikey smiled and plopped down beside me. “You’re sure you’re okay?”
“Of course!” I held out my headphones. “Wanna listen to some music?”
“Sure.” Mikey took the headphones and scrolled through my music, selecting a playlist and bopping his head to the beat. I sighed and watched him, shoving the memories away. That didn’t matter. Helping my twin mattered.
