One Peaceful Moment

Summary:

When he came out of the fresher, Obi-Wan finally unfolded himself from the duvet, sitting there with a slight pout on his lips, still reluctant to wake up even though they’d been lazing around for about an hour.

“What are you doing there?” He asked when he notices Cody hadn’t moved from the fresher door, body leaning against the frame, making himself comfortable there like he was ready to stand there for the rest of the day.

If anyone asked Cody, when does Obi-Wan look the most kissable, it was in these moments: hair flopped over, tangled from sleep, stray strands catching his eyelashes, face relaxed, eyes still hazy. None of the handsomeness of the day is gone, but there’s an added softness, a warmth in the pit of Cody’s stomach that sang ‘kiss him, KISS him, KISS HIM!’

Work Text:

The snow pattered softly against the windows; the soft hum of the wind barely audible over the tapping. The ship was well-heated, but the chill of this planet still managed to creep in, getting under the sheets, crawling into their bones, making them feel too heavy. Heavy enough to make waking up in the mornings difficult.

Obi-Wan curled into the sheets, deeper into the curves of his pillow, cold toes pressed against his partner’s calf scavenging for every little bit of warmth.

Even though he knew Cody hated it.

“General.” Cody groaned, voice scratchy from sleep. His hands moved unconsciously, blindly tracing over Obi-Wan’s body, poking at his side enough to tickle him. A little payback for being woken up in such a cruel way.

There was a huff of air, followed by reddish hair peeking out, along with Obi-Wan’s cheeky smile. “You’re warm. It’s nice.”

Cody didn’t hesitate to pull him closer, arm winding around Obi-Wan’s waist, pressing their bodies closer together. As close as they were the night before, only with more layers of clothing in between them. But just as intimate, naked in other ways that makes Cody’s throat constricted with feelings he never thought he as a clone would have. His nose dipped into the space between Obi-Wan’s neck and shoulder, taking in a deep breath.

“Okay, now go back to sleep,” He grumbled, feeling the slight shiver from Obi-Wan, smiling despite himself.

“Hm, I’m not sure I can now.” The Jedi’s voice betrayed him though, as he hummed in contentment.

“Sssh.” Sleep was drifting away from him now though, slipping through his fingers slowly, a scattered thing now. He kept his eyes closed stubbornly, if only to prove to himself that he could fall asleep if he wanted to. Hiding away in this small little space, that was just for them.

He knew that Obi-Wan must know that he was awake now, but the other man didn’t say anything, feeling Obi-Wan’s fingers against his chest.

Until they got news from the Council or there was definite activity from the Separatists in the area once the weather died down a little, there was nothing for any of them to do.

So, they didn’t get up.

Not until it’s later into the afternoon, the sky lighter despite the storm, a brighter shade of grey. They didn’t get up until Cody found that he was too hungry to put off food any longer. He untangled himself from Obi-Wan with a kiss to his forehead and a whispered promise to get an R2 unit to deliver the food, so that they didn’t have to deal with the good-natured teasing from the rest of their men.

He gave the Jedi another kiss, just to be sure.

“Nothing,” is what came out of his mouth, but he couldn’t hide the smile. When he moved, he only went back to the bed, to lean over Obi-Wan, giving him the barest touch of lips. “Come on, go wash up.”

“Don’t tell me what to do,” Obi-Wan scolded, “Who’s the General here?”

He did as he was told though.

Some days, they spent their days travelling and preparing for yet another battle in this war.

Other days, they were giving reports, planning their next steps, before leaving together and getting what time that they could.

Rare were these days.

Lying down on the couch, Obi-Wan’s back pressed against Cody’s chest, mimicking the steady rhythm of his breathing. Cody’s arms settled around his waist, one hand slipping underneath his tunic, tracing lazy circles, words something like love and home. They finished their lunch, feeling a little warmer now, hearing the laughter and fond, but annoyed shouting, of Waxer chasing Boil just outside

There was a comfort in this, of being here in this moment.

Just being here, with Cody’s chin resting on the top of Obi-Wan’s head….this was home.
