Work Text:
Boba got to his feet as soon as he saw the medi-droid leave the room. “What’s happened? Is he okay?”
“Daimyo Fett- “
There was no emotion in the tone, but Boba knew exactly what they were going to say, already shaking his head.
“- everything that could have been done, was done, but the patient- “
It all vanished into fog.
Deep, suffocating fog that made him feel like he was drowning as the blackness rose up to greet him.
**
Boba bit back the gasp as he sat up in bed, chest heaving as he reverted back to old breathing techniques to get it all under control.
A gentle, warm hand settled on his back; the touch familiar as he finally felt like he could relax.
“Boba?”
Cobb was alive.
He was alive and he was right next to him.
“Boba?” Cobb sounded like he was still half-asleep, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” He knew he didn’t sound like it was nothing, “Go back to sleep.”
There was the rustling of sheets, before Cobb was reaching out and pulling him into his arms.
He was warm...alive...except for the cool metal of the arm that they had had to replace after the shooting.
“Nightmare?”
Boba nodded silently.
“Do you...want to talk about it?”
“...You were dead.”
“Ah.” Cobb rolled his injured shoulder awkwardly, “Well, I suppose it’s thanks to you and that handy tank that I’m not.”
“Hm.”
“...Do you think you can go back to sleep?”
Boba immediately shook his head. His past experiences with nightmares, especially after his father’s brutal death, had taught him that the next nightmare of the night would be ten times worse.
“Okay.” Cobb hummed, before suddenly getting out of bed and grabbing some clothes, “Get dressed?”
“Why?”
“Trust me?”
Boba did. A revelation that caught him a little by surprise, but he really did.
…
“Really.”
“What?” Cobb’s voice was a little defensive, “You can’t say that I’m wasting milk or anything, I’ve seen how much we have in.”
Well yes.
Who knew when Din and Grogu were going to visit.
Hearing Cobb telling him the story of the first time that he ever had milk, seeing the way that he lit up at the memory, he couldn’t help but think…he might love this man.
…
Boba watched from the sidelines as Cobb greeted the people he had once looked after and protected for so long. He didn’t want to step on the other man’s toes by joining him on this quick visit, but this was…well, this was where Cobb had been shot, and yes, he was still concerned.
As though knowing what he was thinking, Cobb looked over at his direction and smiled.
Boba was sure that his heart skipped a beat.
His father had never found someone to build a connection with, and nor had he wanted to, something that he had tried explaining to Boba a long time ago. For the longest time, Boba assumed he was the same, but he was wrong.
He was in love.
“Ready to go?”
He looked over at Cobb, unsure as to how long he had been standing there. “You don’t want to stay here a bit longer?”
“Nah, they’ve got it under control.” Cobb placed a hand on his shoulder, “Come on. I want to be back home before it gets dark.”
Home.
…Cobb thought Boba’s home was his home as well?
…..
Boba entered the home, hearing laughter and his lover’s indignant voice demanding a rematch.
He paused for a moment, not sure if he wanted to walk into a situation where Fennec and Din were laughing…especially Fennec, he had never known her to laugh, not like this.
It was a little unnerving really.
He moved into the room, as Din looked up at him.
“Cobb is not very good at these games.” He stated matter-of-factly, as Cobb let out a squawk of annoyance.
“No! You just cheat!”
“Sore loser.” Fennec smirked, and the bickering started up again.
Boba could only watch with fondness.
Complete and total fondness.
….
It was Cobb’s turn to have a nightmare, the sound of him being startled awake, waking Boba up as well. He wasted no time in pulling the other man closer, hearing Cobb let out a sharp gasp, before he was leaning into him.
“…I’m sorry.” Cobb whispered.
“What for?”
“For waking you up, I- “
“- I’ve done the same to you.” Boba cut him off, “Many times.”
Cobb shrugged.
“…Do you think you can back to sleep?”
A harsh bark of laughter was the only response that he got, and it was really the only response that he needed.
He got up, pulling Cobb out of bed as well as he headed over to the music player that he had…splurged a little to get. Yes, he knew that the performers for the Catina had often performed at all hours of the day for the previous Daimyo, but he had long memories of switching one of these on when travelling with his father, lightly swaying to the music that played over the speakers.
“What are you doing?” Cobb asked, when Boba closed the space between them and pulling him close, swaying them from side to side. The bemused expression shifted into one of delight very quickly.
“I…love you.” Boba confessed softly, seeing Cobb’s face light up further.
“I love you too.”
