Work Text:
The large pan sizzled, pieces of chicken cooking inside. Amelia flipped and rotated the pieces. Once she was satisfied, she set the pan's top back in place.
The door to her house opened. Liam was back from work. The two made eye contact, both of their brows raised. After a moment of staring, Liam closed the door behind him, and he smiled. “Hi, Amelia.”
“Hi, Liam.” A light smile came onto her face, and she looked down at the pan of cooking chicken. “Welcome back.”
Amelia expected him to move past her and go to the living room to rest for a while, but instead he leaned back against the door and crossed his arms. When she noticed this in her peripherals, she looked up with a brow raised.
He was smirking at her. His eyes were half lidded.
A bit awkwardly, she scoffed, not knowing how to react. “..What?” She smiled.
He closed his eyes for a second. “Nothing.” He shrugged modestly. “You just look really pretty.”
Flattered, she laughed softly. “I-.. look the same as I always do, though.”
“I know.” His smirk widened a smidge. “That's because you always look pretty.” He put a hand to his cheek, his other arm still folded across his chest.
She looked away, her smile widening. “Go sit down, you.” She shook her head, taking the top of the pan off. “I know you've had a long day at work.”
He stopped leaning on the door. “Alright, alright.” He started walking past her. “Love you.”
She giggled. “Love you, too. I'll have dinner ready in a little bit.”
Things were quiet for a little while as Amelia worked on cooking the pieces of chicken, rotating and flipping each of the pieces again.
Suddenly, arms wrapped around her. And the soft texture of Liam’s body pressed against her back, as he gently pulled her against him.
She flinched, almost dropping the steel spatula in her hand. “Wh-!” She adjusted to his sudden hug, chuckling softly. “L-Liam..!”
He giggled in a hum, his eyes closed. “Sorry for scaring you.” He muttered. “You were just looking so cute, I had to hug you.”
She sighed shakily. He was being very affectionate; he must've had a nice day at work. “Liam.. just-” She chuckled, flustered. “Give me a warning.. next time.”
“But that ruins the adorable reaction you have when I do it.” He whispered teasingly.
She laughed. “I-It is not adorable..!” She stammered, complaining.
He giggled in a hum again. “You know you're adorable.”
She scoffed lightheartedly. “I am not.” She muttered.
Liam loudly took in a breath through his nose. He sighed as he breathed out. “Not only adorable, but you smell just as beautiful as you look.”
Amelia could not concentrate on cooking with his constant affection. It made her want to ditch cooking entirely. A stupid grin was on her face as she soaked him in.
“What scent did you burn this time?” He sniffed again, but quickly. “Strawberry pound cake?” He whispered.
She looked down at the hands wrapped around her waist. “Heheh.. yeah. I.. just felt like it.”
He hummed, nodding against her back. “It suits you.” He murmured genuinely.
She hummed, happy. Her cheeks were lit up in a flush. She was never very good at being flirty, but Liam was. He was always on the attack when it came to affection, and she often didn't know how to react whenever he was. In some ways, it was frustrating, but she still loved the soft feeling it gave her.
He remained there for a little while, allowing Amelia to put the top of the pan back.
“..Is it done?” He asked softly.
She set down the spatula, softly touching his hands with her own. “Almost.” She leaned back against him a little.
He seemed to notice, a confident hum escaping him. “I knew you'd cave eventually.”
She laughed softly. “What do you mean?”
“You love it when I hug you like this, don't you?” He swayed with her body subtly.
“Well.. of course I do.” She looked down at his arms.
“It makes you feel all soft and warm on the inside, hm?”
“..Yeah..” Her large, flustered smile couldn't be contained.
“And it makes you want to stay here forever, doesn't it?” He smiled against her, his eyes closed.
“..You know it does.”
“Why don't you come lay on the couch with me, then? It'll be more comfortable.” He cooed.
She giggled, grabbing the spatula again to remind herself, “I’m cooking, Liam.” She chuckled.
“Ahh, who cares about that?” He giggled. “I won't be hungry anymore if I have you.”
She laughed softly. “Th-That just- isn't true.” She laughed again.
“Your lips taste good enough on their own.”
She huffed gently. “Then turn me around so you can kiss me.”
He hummed, amused. “You don't have to tell me twice.”
With his assistance, Amelia turned around to face him. His eyes gazed down at her lovingly. It made her smile wider, seeing how happy he was.
“Come here..” He murmured, barely audible.
Their lips touched. And quickly fell back. Then came back together again. Then quickly fell back again.
He placed a hand behind her head.
Their lips met once more. This kiss lasted longer, Liam gently keeping her connected to him. After a moment, they fell back for a final time, both of them sighing in satisfaction. They stared lovingly at each other.
“I love you.” He whispered.
“I love you, too.”
“You're adorable.” He smirked, but his admission was genuine.
She hugged him, burying her transparent face into him. “You're more adorable.”
He chuckled, returning her hug and stroking her back soothingly. His hand traveled from the top of her back to the bottom of her back, then he'd repeat the action. They both closed their eyes.
The two stood there for half a minute, before Liam finally muttered, “..Sorry for distracting you..”
In his chest, she spoke, muffled, “Whatever.”
He hummed, amused. He looked down at her short frame. “Cutie.”
She huffed against him, wrapping her arms around him tighter to show her disapproval of his teasing.
He chuckled, amused. He pat the top of her rim. “Alright, I get it. You just don't want me around.”
“Shut up..” She chuckled against him.
He kissed the top of her head. “I love you, too.” He gently removed her from him. “Now you go finish cooking.” He smiled genuinely at her. “I love you a lot, but I am starving.”
“It's your fault if the chicken burned.” She teased back.
He laughed, shaking his head. “It was worth it, regardless.”
She finally returned herself to the pan. “..It was.” She agreed.
…
After eating dinner together, Amelia had to leave to teach her evening yoga class. She was at the door, ready to leave.
But before she could reach her hand for the knob, Liam jogged from the living room to her. “Hold on.” He stopped her.
She stared up at him with a modest smile. “Hm?”
“You forgot something.” He got a few inches away from her.
“I did?” She thought about what it was she might be forgetting. She thought she had everything; she had even double checked.
Her thoughts were cut off when he grabbed her face and knelt down to her lips. He tenderly kissed her, lasting for a couple of seconds. He separated. “Your goodbye kiss, of course.” He muttered.
Her face flushed, her knees buckled slightly. Her hands hovered near her face as she laughed, softly but uncontrollably. “L-Liam..!” She shook her head. She couldn't with this man.
He chuckled, happy to make her happy. “Have a good day at work, Amelia, honey.”
She slowed her laughing down to a hum, looking him in the eyes. She gave him a hug. “Thank you.”
“Of course.” He returned it. He planted one more kiss on the top of her head. He took a whiff of her. “My Scenty..” He sighed. “I love you.” He let her go.
She hummed, her eye scrunching. She grabbed and turned the knob, taking a step out to their garage. “I love you, too.”
He waved at her. Just before she shut the door behind her, he positively exclaimed, “Smile that beautiful smile!”
With a giddy feeling encapsulating her heart, she went to her car, feeling more than energized. She was ready to take on the evening, and it was all thanks to the affections of a silly little backpack.
