“We’re all proud of you too Logan, I know you feel like an outsider but it's not true. You fit into the group and it's like you’ve always been there. You should join Wade when he comes out for drinks with us, he doesn’t wanna push you past your comfort zone but I wanted to let you know we would all love to see you come out more.” Peter finished, genuine want to be around him was still a strange concept to Logan.
“I, maybe … Thank you, I don't know yet, but I'm grateful. Being here has been one hell of a ride but I'm happy it's been a ride shared with Wade, he's done more for me, and you guys have done more for me, than anyone back in my universe.”
“I'm glad, you're a good guy Logan.”
“HEY!!” A shout from Wade came from round the corner.
Logan’s legs picked up pace faster than his mind could keep up, running round the corner he was face to face with a group of 4 masked thugs. Baseball bats arming each of them. Wade was on the floor in front of the men, clearly ambushed and thrown down.
Passing the small dog to Peter, he gestures to them to stay back. Like hell is he letting his friends get hurt over whatever bullshit is about to go down.
“You got my car repo’d Wade. The fuck were you thinking, really thought this wouldn't come back to bite you in the ass you ugly looking motherfucker.” The man at the front shouted, voice soaked in anger, it's clear he wasn't there for a friendly conversation.
“Whatever happened to your car wasn't on me, if you can't make the payments it's all automatic, I don't even work here anymore the fuck you want me to do?”
“Sure sure excuses excuses,” he rolled his eyes. “See I don't care what you think or don't think happened, you sold me the car and today I wake up to it being loaded on a van. Fix it or I'll fix your face.” The bat the man held was dragged along the floor, metal grinding against concrete. “Stay out of this unless you want some too.” Nodding to the man to his left, he stood forward between Wade and Logan.
Understanding the situation Wade started to stand up, thinking about his partner and his friend behind him, knowing this needed de-escalation quickly or things were going to get messy. He and Logan could deal with this but Peter wouldn't bounce back like they could.
- thwack -
A crisp metallic thud against Wade’s skull.
“Shit you got this right Logan?” Peter said, eyes wide at the scene before him.
“Go inside,” Logan began moving forward towards the first man, adamantium claws out and bloodthirsty. “Let's fuckin go.”
*****************************
Groggy and disoriented from having his skull smashed in, Wade awoke to hear the metallic scratches and the roars from the fight in front of him. Watching his partner fight, left fist connecting with a torso and sharp blades emerging from the other side of the opponent, he felt a cold metal to the back of his head.
“Call your boy off or else he gets this, and then you do too, then your friend who ran inside, then that ugly looking mutt.” The guy he sold the car to all those months ago threatened. Wade’s head was clear.
“See I wasn’t much of anything when you bought that car off of me, pretty down on my luck,” Sharply twisting around, kicking the man in the head, and finishing the twist with taking the gun. “But I’m Deadpool, and that’s Wolverine.”
- Bang -
“You messed with the wrong guys.”
The man’s head spread across the ground. Red ran out from where he fell. Wade lifted the gun to his face, the sharp smell of gunpowder was a briefly intoxicating smell. He turned to face the brawl Wolverine was in.
One man on the floor after having been turned into a kebab. A second just had his own bat used against his head. The third managed to connect a hit to Logan’s leg, sending him to the floor, an immediate retaliation of claws up underneath his ribcage meant game over.
Retracting his blades and standing up, Logan kicked the head of the third to add insult to injury.
“All good?” He asked.
“All good,” Wade confirmed.
“What do ya wanna do with the bodies?”
“Shit just leave them there, we’ll be long gone before police arrive and the cameras round here are just for show.”
Logan shrugged in agreement and shouted for Peter to come back. Mary Puppins was first to come round the corner, stopping only briefly to piss on the body of one of the men lying motionless on the floor, before continuing her run towards Wade and jumping into his arms. Peter was next round the corner, definitely not used to the content of the scene before him.
“You really did a number on these guys wow.”
“Yeah well they threatened you guys and can’t be having that now,” Wade shrugged. “Thanks for keeping Mary safe.”
“Anytime buddy. You guys better get out of here though, some of the guys inside must have heard the gun and called the police.” Peter threw the keys to Wade, who promptly got them taken off of him by Logan. “It's parked right in the corner, off the books of course.” He winked.
“You shouldn't have sugarbear!”
“Think I could have taken a hit like that and bounced back? I think not, the car is yours.”
“Thanks Peter,” Logan said. “Maybe see you all on Saturday?” Peter smiled.
“Sounds like a plan.”
Wade was confused at this, but happy at the same time. He hated leaving Logan alone every other Saturday night but knew he couldn't force him to join in. Whatever conversation he must have had with Peter must have been what he needed to hear.
“Let's go Lo, think I know the perfect place for the first joy ride in this beauty.” Wade began skipping towards the Honda, opening the drivers side door for Logan and bowing as he stepped in, then sliding over the bonnet to the passenger side.
Logan started the car and they headed out the dealership parking lot, Wade waved to Peter as they drove by, Mary Puppins snuggled in his lap starting to doze off.
