Work Text:

“Let's go Lo, think I know the perfect place for the first joy ride in this beauty.” Wade began skipping towards the Honda, opening the drivers side door for Logan and bowing as he stepped in, then sliding over the bonnet to the passenger side Mary in tow.

Tucking the small dog into his jacket Wade nodded to Logan, who started the car and headed out the dealership parking lot. Wade waved to Peter as they drove by. Mary Puppins snuggled in his jacket starting to doze off.

20 minutes of driving took the pair to the edge of the city, more trees than houses at this point. Wade had connected his speaker to the car's radio at this point and was happily singing along to some music from 20 something years ago, occasionally dancing in his seat. Logan's hand was resting on his leg, a comfort to both men, occasionally stroking his thumb as a reminder he was still there.

“This is the place you wanted to go bub?” Asked Logan, jostled around by the sudden gravel road leading to the car park.

“Yup, barely any people here pumpkin, it's super chill.”

Raising an eyebrow in a ‘fair enough’ manner, Logan was first out of the car, followed by Mary who hopped out of Wade's jacket and through Logan's door.

Opening the boot and sitting on the edge watching Mary run around after pigeons and squirrels, the pair sat in a silence broken only by Wade's speaker. A slightly more modern tune playing now, Chappel Roan, if Logan recalled correctly. He had to admit it was a good song and it was clear Wade enjoyed it too as he stood up and faced Logan to dramatically reenact part of the song.

~ When you wake up next to him in the middle of the night
With your head in your hands, you're nothing more than his wife ~

Wade cupped a hand around Logan's face,

~ And when you think about me, all of those years ago ~

Then straddled the smaller man to sit in his lap,

~ You're standing face to face with "I told you so"
You know I hate to say, "I told you so" ~

Planting a kiss on his forehead.

~ You know I hate to say, but, I told you so ~

“I can't wait to have moments like this with you years into the future honey badger. It calms my mind so much being out here,” Sliding off of Logan’s lap and sitting beside him. “I hope you know how much you mean to me, I don't say that shit lightly.”

“I know bub, I feel the same way, both about you and how being in nature is calming… I spent a lot of time in places like this when I felt I had nowhere else to go, the quietness was peaceful. Noone to try and hurt me more than I was already hurting,” Wade reached for Logan’s hand, holding it and stroking his thumb over Logan’s fingers. “I'm glad you took me away from that place and gave me a home here, not sure how I can ever repay you bub.”

“You don't have to worry about that goose, we both found each other at pretty low points in our lives, I like to think we dug each other out.”

They sat like that for a while. A cool breeze flowing through the summer air, cold enough to warrant Wade scooting closer to Logan. The man was practically a radiator. Watching how the breeze causes ripples through the grass and the nearby plants but not enough for discernable movement in the trees beyond. A brief noise of cars in the distance, but mostly the chirps of birds hiding amongst the trees.

This was too serene for Wade, too calm, too quiet. Not enough mental stimulation for his more than likely ADHD brain.

- Yoink -

Grabbing the keys out of Logan’s hands he took off towards the other side of the car park.

“Wade you fucker!” Yelled Logan, rolling his eyes before getting up and starting the chase, Mary in tow.

Scrambling effortlessly up a tree on the other side of the small car park, Wade sat on a branch dangling the car keys as he watched Logan reach the bottom of the tree. Hand on his knees whilst he quickly caught his breath, he looked up at Wade and rolled his eyes once more. Wade was a pain in the ass but life with him was never a bore.

“Give me the keys back asshole.” Yelled the smaller man up the tree.

“But the view is so much nicer up here, you should come up and join me pumpkin.” Wade said with a beaming smile.

Done with Wade’s antics, Logan began violently shaking the tree he was sitting in. Gripping onto the branches so as to not fall on his arse, an escape route formed in Wade’s head. Ninja turtle style, he began crossing from branch to branch, tree to tree. All the while, Logan and Mary Puppins followed along at the foot of the trees never letting the man out of his sight.

Reaching the end of the row of trees, Wade decided he was done being a ninja turtle and hopped down, complete with a roll as he landed and finishing in a super hero pose.

“Superhero pose” he whispered to himself.

“Are you done yet bub?” Asked Logan, done with his partner's antics.

“Yeah, being a ninja turtle through trees is more difficult than it looks Lo, too many obstacles, so much easier on the ground.” Nodded Wade as if Logan had any idea what a ninja turtle was.

“Okaay bub… Keys?” Logan hinted.

“Oh yeah, here you go honey badger.” Wade smiled as he held the keys high above his head. The plan for a kiss in action.

“Really bub?” The smaller man sighed.

Logan stepped closer to Wade, the height difference making it so the keys were ever so slightly out of his reach. Wade looked down to meet his eyes, their faces almost touching with Logan's incessant want to grab the keys. Locking eyes, Logan stopped reaching for the keys and instead cupped Wade’s face, realisation of what all this was for crossing his mind.

“Ya know if you wanted a kiss so badly you didn’t have to go through all this effort bub.”

“Oh I know, just more fun this way, sweet cheeks.” Wade said as he lowered his face down to meet the other man.

As the pair kissed, Wade’s arm holding the keys began relaxing until it was resting over Logan’s shoulder, locking them in a hug. His other arm circled Logan’s waist pulling him in closer.

Placing their foreheads together, still hugging, Wade broke the silence.

“I love you Lo.”

“I love you too bub. Let’s go home.”
