Chapter Text
Glisten leaned against the wall of the descending elevator- it was only Floor 3, so nobody's missed much, if anything at all. Floors like this were typically cut and dry.
He surveyed the members of the elevator- he was surprised at how many main toons decided to come along- they took up half the elevator.
He managed to convince Rodger to come along with him- and while Toodles was about to come into the elevator, she was gracefully pulled away by Goob and his promises of playing with Pebble.
Now that he thought about it, he was glad the rock didn't come along. Being so attached to Dandy in a room full of people who engage in- excuse his language, shit talk wouldn't be good for him.
He was glad she didn't get to come either- mainly because she was prone to picking up those fake capsules.
The door to the next floor opened just in time, and he eagerly strutted out in search of a machine. Would've helped if Tisha was around- but he moved along just fine.
Much faster compared to Shrimpo, obviously.
He let out a small laugh as he found one, getting to work almost immediately. Was it appropriate for a perfect toon like him to be laughing down at him? Of course not!
.. But he did have to let out a giggle or two.
Having Vee around in the same stuffy elevator was a nightmare for all parties involved- even to Cosmo who usually stayed out of the equation due to Sprout.
'It's only been a few floors,' He said to himself, dutifully working the machine 'til it was full. 'What else could she possibly say after this? I can't let her get to me.'
Granted, Glisten wasn't the most tolerant toon out there, that impeded his perfection, sure- but he was working on it! Only Rodger and Toodles knew about it, but he didn't mind. It was better that way.
The wonderful sound of the ding from the machine made him grin, so he turned to look for somebody suitable enough to go to. Cosmo was nearby- supposedly in an open area if his memory serves him right.
He wasted no time as he snapped his fingers, a large mirror appearing before him as he stepped through.
He was pretty thankful they had a place to test their abilities out in back up on the surface, otherwise the other toons probably wouldn't have been as receptive to his 'teleport' ability.
Glisten gave Cosmo a small wave as he trotted off to find another machine- which was honestly ridiculous, how were they not done yet?
A resounding few tolling sounds from the machines came and he rolled his eyes. Naturally he was the one to have finished a machine first..
He walked around a surprisingly long while, spotting Vee working on a machine while her entourage encouraged her on. He would've pitied her if she wasn't like Pebble. Barks all the time and annoying.
Of course- he had to keep a straight face in front of her. He was better than her, there wasn't any use in involving himself with people who weren't worth his time and effort.
A looming feeling of dread snuck up to him, and he tried to shake it off- he was successful, yeah- but it didn't stop the lingering effects of it.
The last machine finished up and they immediately went into panic mode, Glisten was quite calm throughout it since he could always reach the elevator regardless of how far he was from it, so he simply decided to wait until one of the toons got in the elevator before making a move of his own.
He checked his nails, knowing he was safe considering how Vee's mic check indicated the two twisteds they had seen were all the way across the floor they were in. Turning to the direction of the elevator, he snapped once again and stepped through his mirror.
"Tada! The one and only Glisten has arrived! Hold the applause- I'm already hearing it!"
Hearing soft laughter made his face light up with joy- he just knew it was from Rodger, and he was all too ready to welcome him in his arms once again.
Like clockwork, he turned and brought him into a hug- their height difference was noticeable sure, but just one look would be enough to tell that the shorter was the one calling the shots in their relationship.
Glisten never minded, why would he? He knew the other much better than everyone else, and that was enough for him.
"I HATE PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION!!"
He had to hold back a sigh as he melted into his beloved's arms, sweet nothings being whispered into the side of his mirrors where his 'ears' would've been. He could hardly resist Rodger at any given moment, let alone while they were on a run.
Shrimpo's complaints were hitting the metaphorical brick wall (hah) in his head, he was quite literally going nowhere with what he was saying, but Glisten assumed he didn't care.
He could feel the stares of at least three other toons burning into the back of his mirror but did he care? Of course not- he had no time to fret over something so trivial!
Besides- they all had their own problems, Glisten had his solutions.. Mostly being Rodger, but still.
By the time the elevator closed, they had already separated. Nobody could miss the way their hands never drifted away from the other's, however.
The mirror could see the way Cosmo whispered to Sprout, probably nothing he should concern himself with, not with Rodger around..
He could see the way his boyfriend's eye widen however- and he had to put a hand on the other's chest to stop him from asking, tutting as he whispered. "Leave the happy couple alone for now. You can ask them later."
"Alright then." A smile graced his lips when he saw the slight eyeroll Rodger had given him.
"Patience is a virtue after all!" He said, enough for the others to hear- but Glisten said a range of things from time to time, so they never really questioned anything that came out of him unless it concerned everyone else.
"Hey- Glisten?" He turned to see Astro, and he had to hold himself back from making a tired expression. It wasn't that interacting with him was tiring- quite pleasing, in fact. He just hated talking to him if Vee was around, knowing how 'chummy' they were with each other.
"Concerns? Questions? Inquiries? I can answer for them." He said confidently, crossing his arms. His naturally down-turned eyes made for a slightly intimidating stare, and he knew it.
Astro quickly shook his head. "It's nothing big, Vee just wanted to know-" Blegh. "If Rodger would be free- I don't know why she'd ask you instead of him since he's right here.."
Glisten wasn't going to say he knew why, but he had a hunch. That piece of outdated tech had a habit of being nosey with him and his partner, damn her if he's going to let her trample over their already healthy relationship when she could barely keep her own.
"Oh, well.." He waved his hand downward, bending down slightly to get eye-to-eye with Astro. "I'll be keeping him busy- he has his cases and whatnot, you know? And he needs help! Besides.. Goob and him also have something planned.."
He could see the way Astro wilted slightly- much like how Dandy would if he didn't get what he wanted, but at least he felt pity this time around. "My sincerest apologies, good friend. But I'll let you know the moment he's free, okay?"
"Well- thank you anyway, Glisten. I can always rely on you." He smiled, and Glisten found himself mirroring his expression.
"Anytime, Astro!"
