Summary
One day, the Doctor will learn. When she hears a Gallifreyan distress call, she’ll stop pretending she doesn’t know who it is. She won’t chase it down and end up in the middle of an interplanetary battleground, blaster rifles humming like the laquin birds she and the Master used to track between constellations. She’ll put her sonic away and never desperately scan muddy earth searching for a body she can’t see through the fog.
She’ll tell herself she won’t come every time.
or, when the Doctor rescues the Master from his own destruction, she knows healing him won't be easy. But they've always been intrinsically drawn to each other, and maybe this is their chance to acknowledge all that's gone unsaid between them.
Or maybe they'll kill each other. One can never quite tell.
