Metahuman Rehabilitation and Experimentation Facility

Summary:

This is an AU of season 4 episode 6’s “No Man’s an Island” where instead of the metahumans being captured to bring that one guys son back, they were captured purely to be experimented on.

However this is an old (not that old actually, it was made like a year ago but, still old) abandoned fic that I’m posting cause I’m realizing that it's unlikely I’m going to finish it. So don’t expect anything of sustenance when it comes to this fic, it's just the beginning of a long fic so there isn’t much plot yet. However if reading unfinished pretty much abandoned fics are your thing, go ahead, and I have a bunch of notes and ideas in the second chapter of this fic

If I do come back to this (unlikely knowing me and my attention span) then the description and title are probably going to be revised, but for now just enjoy

Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Virgil slowly opened his eyes. As he sat up he noticed a weird electrical barrier. As he started to walk up to it a weird cuff pulled him back. Confused by the whole situation with underlying dread, he touched the electrical barrier and immediately regretted it. He didn’t know why he decided to touch it, he guessed it was out of plain curiosity but he immediately pulled his hand back when it shocked him. He had assumed that his cuff connected him to the wall or something so when he turned around he was shocked to see it connected him to his enemy Hotstreak. Great, this is JUST FLIPPING FANTASTIC. He doesn’t like referring to him as Francis anymore, it resurfaces too many old memories. He blanched as he looked out the window and realized they were flying. The thought of never making it home surfaced and he pushed it away because that reality was too hard to confront. And as if his day couldn’t get any worse, Hotstreak woke up.

Hotstreak woke up to Static’s face and immediately got mad, of course he was behind this. “You've got ten seconds
to get this thing off of me or your goose is cooked.” Hotstreak threatened as he put Static in a headlock.

“Ah! Hold on, Smokey! I'm not the one who put you here!” Virgil exclaimed. Hotstreak blinked and paused for a second out of confusion before getting angry and shouting, “Liar!”. In the back of his head he was thinking about just how irrational that thought was but right now he just needed someone to blame and Static was right in front of him. He attempted to light a flame, when all that came out of his hands was smoke he, out of confusion voiced, “Hey, no flames?!”.

Static was surprised by this and attempted to use his electricity and all that came out was a spark, “Something's
neutralizing our powers”. He pondered for moment and looked up, “And I'm guessing
it's those funky lights, they're some kind of power dampers” Static noted. “We need a plan”. Hotstreak walked up to the electrical barrier and before Static could warn him, he touched it.

“Ow!” Hotstreak yelped, flapping his hand. Static would have snickered if it wasn’t for the situation at hand.

“That barrier and those lights are the exact same color, do you think they’re related to each other somehow?” Static inquired.

“I don’t care about your dumb theories, once we land we will have a chance to escape. And then we can move on with our lives and pretend this never happened” Hotstreak retorted.

Static sighed, “Whatever you say”. Static sat back down and millions of thoughts were swirling in his head. Why was he here, what did their captors want, why does he have to be here with HOTSTREAK of all people. While he was feeling slightly annoyed that emotion paled in comparison to the other emotions he was feeling. Fear and uncertainty was prominent as he reassured himself that he was grabbed by accident and once he explained that he wasn’t working with Hotstreak he would be released. Silence persisted between the two of them. Static had absolutely nothing to do but that wasn’t too much of a problem when there was so much to think about. Besides there was no way in hell he was going to talk to Hotstreak of all people. He has absolutely no idea of how much time has passed, though he supposed it didn’t matter since it seemed that he was going to be in the plane for a while. He was starting to run out of things to think about which was frustrating and the reality of the situation hung over him. He glanced at Hotstreak who was sitting in a corner sulking. Thoughts were still swirling in his head but now they were more like vague emotions as he shut his eyes and attempted to go to sleep. He tossed and turned a lot but he passed quite a bit of time even though he never fell unconscious. He opened his eyes and was starting to feel bored. He decided even though it was the last thing he wanted to do, he was going to chat with Hotstreak because there was literally nothing else to do.

He thought of what to say for a while before eventually saying, “How long do you think we’re going to be here?”

“How long we’re going to be stuck on this plane or in general?” Hotstreak queried

“On this plane”, Static didn’t want to think about how long he would be staying here in general.

“Probably a few hours, we’re going overseas which will probably make this trip take a while. Where we’re going I have no idea, I highly doubt we’ve been snatched by any old thug considering the high tech these guys got” Hotstreak attempted to light a flame to show his point.

“Hm”. Static wanted the conversation to continue so he tried to think of another topic, “So uh, what do you in your, uh, free time?” Static awkwardly asked.

“That is the dumbest question I’ve ever heard”

“Shut up I'm trying here!” Static shouted.

“Ugh if you really care that much, I read”

“You, reading?” Static chuckled.

“Yeah, is that so much of a big deal?”

“I just thought you’d be more of a video games type of guy” Static commented.

“Well you were wrong” Hotstreak stated.

Static let out a last chuckle before starting to feel troubled again, the situation hanging over them like a guillotine. They sat in silence and Static shut his eyes, being able to actually go to sleep now.
