Dancin’ In The Rain With You

Summary:

After a late night drive, not unusual for the young couple who loved the weather and the long winding roads in their hometown, Kate feels the rain in the air.

And as soon as the heavens open…

She gets out to enjoy the beauty of the pouring rain in the darkness of the night.

Convincing Tyler to join her.

Notes:

I never intended to post this, but I felt like it was probably better for me to share, for everyone else to enjoy, instead of it just sitting in my drafts!

Inspired so simply by a tiktok, this is just a sweet, short little ficlet filled with happy Kate and Tyler.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.

。༄˚࿔ 🌧️⊹⋆

“Don’t be boring Ty! Come dance!” The glow of his girlfriend’s face in the lamplight as she danced around in the parking lot was enough to make him believe in fairytales and happy endings, always.

“You’re crazy!” His lips curved up in a smile that he only ever reserved for Kate, “but god I love you.” Whispering the last part as he slid the seatbelt from his shoulder.

The humid day had paved way for the heaviest rainstorm they’d seen in weeks, and Tyler was soaked before he even reached her.

Kate watched as the rain seeped right through his shirt. Making the fabric cling to his chest, giving her a full view of every inch of his perfectly toned body.

All hers.

He was barely out of reach, but she wanted him to reach out first.

To take her in his arms and hold her.

Hold her in the same way he always did.

“Kiss me.” She breathed, feeling the warmth of his hands as he began to pull her closer. Until the distance between their rain soaked bodies was nonexistent.

“Right now?” He grinned a little, catching her face in his hands just as she went to look up.

“Right now.” She nodded, craving his touch even though his hands were all over her. Delicate. He was always so delicate.

Capturing her lips as the rain continued to pour, he could feel every droplet on his own face as they became one with every droplet on her skin.

Nothing could replicate this moment, nor did he ever want it to.

He only ever wanted to experience these beautiful parts of life with her.

His city girl.

His girl.

His girlfriend.

One day, his wife…

“You are everything.” Kate whispered against his lips, and he looked down at her, and she was staring up at him.

Soaked to the bone.

With rain.

With love.

“You showed me how to live again, you gave me a chance to rebuild my hope and you helped me patch up my broken dreams that I thought would be shattered forever. You didn’t force me into anything, you guided me. Gently. Safely. I’m not afraid anymore, because you showed me that I had no reason to be. I love you Tyler Owens, I love your heart and your kindness and I will always be grateful that whatever forces are at work in this huge universe, they led me back home. To you.”

To live forever, would be a curse, if he was alone.

To live forever with Kate, if their forever were only a day, would be worth everything.

“Kate,” he paused, his hands still holding her close, “you showed me that sometimes being brave is enough. Loving others to receive love in return, is enough. The right amount of fear mixed with joy and awe, is enough. That even though sometimes it’s hard to comprehend, things happen, life happens, and you have to be content with the amount of ‘enough’ you have. You. Are. Enough. For me. You’re my perfect amount of fear and joy and awe. I’ve loved you for longer than I think I’ll ever know. My heart has always been yours, and I’m glad that I’m with you now, in this parking lot, dancing in the rain. It’s enough.”

Her tears mixed with the rain as she smiled so hard that her jaw ached.

Her lips colliding with his as the rain began to ease up.

Just being herself, and knowing that she was enough, was all she needed.

“Who’d have guessed, that the cowboy and the city girl would end up together?”

Tyler asked himself the same question every day.

Every day that he woke up with Kate beside him.

“I think it was the perfect ending that gave us our beginning. I love you, so much.”

Tyler really was her beginning. Her second chance. Her first choice. Everything. Completely. And enough.

“I love you too, and I never want to not stop to dance with you in the rain.”

How could he ever refuse such a simple act of love.

“As long as we’re alive, I will always dance with you, in the rain, in the sun, in our kitchen at 3 in the morning. Always.”

To be loved by Tyler Owens, was so much more than enough, and Kate was certain that she never would know love like it again, she didn’t want to, because that would mean she was without him. He was her moon, stars and everything in between, guiding her through the worst of times and the best.

To be loved by Kate Carter, was enough as enough could be, and Tyler vowed to never take a day with her for granted, because she was his, and he was hers, and she lit up his world even on the darkest days. She was a survivor and she was a warrior, and she was loved. By so many. And by him, always.
