Flames and Feathers

Summary:

"Uhm, Stelle? Who's this?" Firefly inches toward Stelle, murmuring.

"My apologies, I think I've caused some confusion," The person overhears Firefly's words, beginning to lower their mask and sunglasses. "It's always a pleasure to meet another one of the Trailblazer's friends."

That was when it struck Firefly. With the mask gone, she could recognise who it was. The green eyes, strands of periwinkle hair falling down their face. Wings that could only belong to a halovian, sitting behind their ears. It was Robin. The Robin.

-OR-

5 times Robin flusters Firefly, and the 1 time Firefly flusters Robin

Notes:

Hey there! I haven't written anything in a hot minute so I may be rusty but hopefully the characters are not too ooc. I think I've been in writers block, but Robifly has somehow fixed it?

Robifly has actually really grown of me especially since that one fic (lavender roses lmao). So, consider this my contribution to the Robifly community, and I hope I did them justice.

Have fun reading this mess of a fic!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

1

“I'm telling you, those trash cans are out to get me!”

"Stelle…" Firefly began, "I know we're in a dream but I'm pretty sure that's a normal trash can?"

"It's not! Look at the lid—it's a completely different shade of grey!" Stelle exclaims, pointing to a trash can in the distance. "Look, you can even see its arms and legs poking out slightly."

Firefly looks in the direction the exasperated girl was pointing at, only to see an ordinary trash can. It was silver and filled with trash, nothing special about it. Perhaps the trailblazer had a bit too much Soulglad to drink.

She was currently with Stelle at a cafe in a secluded part of the Golden Hour. It was pretty much only the two of them and maybe a few other passersby or customers. The atmosphere was much quieter than the usual hustle and bustle of the Golden Hour, where they were, but you could still hear the echoes of songs playing, in preparation for the Charmony Festival. Despite being amazed by the Golden Hour's luxurious exterior, filled with many exciting things to do, Firefly still enjoyed moments like these.

She smiles as the grey-haired girl rambles on and on about 'Lordly Trashcans' and how these trash cans could apparently punch you? Even though Firefly was unclear on whether or not Stelle was telling the truth, she was still entertained by the trailblazer's newfound paranoia about humanoid trash cans.

As time passed by, their orders finally arrived. Firefly had ordered an oak cake roll, while Stelle had ordered a variety of random snacks that caused the table they were currently sat at to fill up.

"Hey Stelle, you aren't going to make me pay for all of this food again, right?" Firefly mentions seeing the trailblazer start to dig into her food.

"Are you ever going to let me live that down?!" Stelle looks up and frowns. "It was one time!"

"Well, you literally spent all of my credits buying out the whole store!"

"I told you I was sorry!" Stelle whines, facing Firefly. "I even bought you like 10 of those cakes you like to eat as an apology!"

Noticing the Stellaron Hunter's silence, the trailblazer continues. "C'mon, it was one time! If you don't forgive me, I'm gonna be sad forever and I'll never take a step off the Express ever again!"

She clasps her hands together, giving Firefly the saddest face she could muster. Firefly chuckles, seeing the exaggerated look on Stelle's face.

"You're so dramatic!" Firefly rolls her eyes.

"So are you gonna forgive me?"

"Yeah, yeah. I was just teasing you," she smiles, starting to carve her way into her cake.

The trailblazer punches her fists in the air as celebration, causing Firefly to laugh yet again.

"Hey, Firefly…" It wasn't even a minute before Stelle perked up again, looking off into the distance. "You're a fan of Robin, aren't you?"

"Well, I guess so," Firefly shrugs. "Why?"

Stelle ignores her question, suddenly jumping out of her seat, causing Firefly to flinch.

"Hey Robin, over here!" Stelle shouts at the top of her lungs, waving her hand in the air with absolutely no sense of embarrassment.

"Stelle! What are you doing? People are going to look," Firefly whisper-shouts, trying to pull the Trailblazer back to her seat.

When she is ignored, Firefly turns to where the grey haired girl's attention was currently focused on. She squints her eyes, noticing a figure dressed from head to toe in dark blue, mostly covered by a large trench coat. They were also wearing a mask, cap and tinted shades, concealing their face. Why was Stelle referring to that person as Robin?

In the blink of an eye, the person eventually makes their way to where Stelle and Firefly were seated, remaining standing. Stelle gestures for them to take a seat, before shooting a puzzled Firefly a smug look.

From her position, Firefly could only make out the piercing green eyes of the masked individual. Where had she seen those eyes before?

"Here we are again. I'm surprised you could recognise me in my current getup," a familiar voice comes from the stranger, which Firefly couldn't quite exactly place where she had heard it before.

"Well I love playing eye spy and you're easy to spot!" Stelle smiles, eyes closed.

"Oh yeah! This is Firefly, she's a big fan of yours, just like March 7th!" The trailblazer remembers, pointing to Firefly.

The Robin. The singer, Epsilon's superstar and creator of many universe-wide hit songs. Firefly's favourite artist. She swears her jaw was probably about to hit the floor.

"I never thought a cutie like yourself would be a fan of mine, Miss Firefly," Robin adds, giving a soft smile.

"I-I..uhm—" Firefly stammers, processing Robin's words.

Cutie . Cute . Robin had just called her cute . Firefly felt like she was going to explode.

"Uhm—! M-miss Robin! You're… just exaggerating!" the bashful Stellaron Hunter replies, barely above a whisper.

"Well, I know a cute girl when I see one," Robin teases.

Firefly's face somehow gets redder at the singer's unabashed expression.

Is she—? Stelle thinks, somehow having become the third wheel of the two other girls. The corners of the Trailblazer's mouth turned up into a small smile, as a terrific plan popped into her mind.

"I just remembered something!" Stelle slams the table as she shoots up. "I've gotta go to Oti Mall to buy something for the express."

"Huh? What about your fo—"

"I'll bring it with me!" The grey haired girl immediately scoops the food into her arms, while shoving what she can down her mouth. "You ga—, I mean guys have fun without me! See ya later!"

"Wait, Stelle! Where are you going?" The Stellaron Hunter's words are left unheard, as Stelle leaves without a trace.

The singer giggles, watching the scene unfold. "She's quite the character, isn't she?"

"Y-yeah, I guess so."

The conversation ends there, leaving the air awkward. But it was only a matter of time before it started up again.

"So… Miss Firefly," Robin starts. "Just how big of a fan are you?"

"S-Stelle was exaggerating…I've only listened to a few of your songs before..." Firefly lies.

Fan was probably an understatement, considering Firefly's vast collection of the Singer's various albums. She had saved up her credits for most of them and even had the limited edition ones. Of course, there was no way in hell , she would tell Robin herself that.

"There's no need to be shy, I won't bite."

"Uh, a-anyways! What are you doing in this part of the Golden Hour M-Miss Robin?" Firefly asks, changing the subject.

"Well, since you asked, I just wanted to take a walk around the Golden Hour alone to relax, without anybody disturbing me," Robin takes a second to pause. "Though, that was until I spotted the Trailblazer waving like a mad woman, and now I'm here talking with you."

"Sorry if Stelle disrupted your alone time, Miss Robin…" Firefly answers, feeling a hint of guilt.

"It's no bother! I got the chance to talk to a pretty girl, so I think it was worth it."

"O-Oh, I see."

The Stellaron Hunter freezes up yet again upon hearing the Singer's words. Was Robin always this bold? The media typically portrayed her as an idol with a gentle demeanor, and innocent appearance. But now when faced with Robin in person, Firefly was beginning to doubt that. The singer was direct with her words, not shying away from her own  opinions on others. It was indeed interesting to see this other side of Robin and Firefly wanted to know more. But, she was just a fan at best, and a Stellaron Hunter at worst. Robin was probably only talking to her because of her kindness. The idea made Firefly a bit sad, but a voice shakes her out of those thoughts.

Robin places her chin on her own palm. "Since you already know alot about me, why don't I get to know more about you, Miss Firefly ?"

"I—, uhm, sure!" Firefly stammers.

That starts the beginning of a conversation that Firefly doesn't know how long it lasted. It mostly consists of questions like what Firefly did for a living, or maybe where she was from, along with Robin giving her own personal anecdotes as well. Of course, Firefly mostly had to lie about who she was, but Robin still ate it up nonetheless.

"You're so funny, Miss Firefly!"

"I-I'm really not, Miss Rob—"

The sound of a ringtone cuts Firefly short. It was Robin's phone, who fishes it out begrudgingly.

She places a hand over a mouth, muttering a few hushed words, before setting down her phone, annoyed.

"I'm sorry, but we'll have to cut our chat session short," Robin sighs. "There is something I have to attend to."

"Ah! It's okay Miss Robin. I-It was nice to meet you though!"

The singer stands up, giving a small smile, before speaking.

"Could you show me your palm, Miss Firefly?"

"H-Huh?" The silver haired girl moves her hand in front of Robin anyways. "Why?"

The singer ignores her question entirely, instead opting to hold onto Firefly's hand, whose heart quickens at the touch.

She pulls out a marker out of thin air, before beginning to write something on the flustered girl's palm.

"This is…" Robin pulls away as Firefly begins her sentence, looking down at a series of numbers that had just been written on her palm.

"My number," Robin replies nonchalantly.

"W-What? Why did you write it on my hand?" Firefly sputters, confused.

The singer gives a sly grin. "Well, I didn't want you to forget about it."

"I…"

"If you'll excuse me, I'll be taking my leave now," Robin pulls her mask back up. "Feel free to send me a text or a call, Miss Firefly~"

"U-Uhm! You can just call me Firefly, Miss Robin."

"Oh? Alright then, Firefly ," the Singer says. "I'll be waiting for your text."

Robin gives the silver haired girl a wink before walking off into the distance, leaving a red Firefly alone with her thoughts.

She stares back down at her palm, looking at the neatly-written numbers on it. There was no way Robin would give her number to just anyone right? If so, why had she given it to Firefly?

She jolts as her phone buzzes in her pocket. Turning it on, Firefly notices it was a text from Stelle.

———

Stelle

Sooo, did you have fun with Robin?

Isn't it such a fire apology gift?

Lol, get it? A fire apology for fire fly

Firefly

I hate you

-Firefly has gone offline-

Stelle

Wait Firefly you're just joking right?

Firefly?

Firefly, come back!

"What's that?"

" Ah! " A voice beside her causes Firefly to jump.

"U-Uhm, it's nothing!" Firefly spits out, immediately shoving her hand behind her back. "A-Anyways, what're you doing here? "

She turns to face the source of her disturbance. It was Silver Wolf, or a light blue hologram of her at least. She had mentioned something about wanting to clear raids in a game that day, so Firefly was a bit surprised at the hacker's sudden appearance. Now was probably not the best time.

"I told you I would be watching over you, I just wanted to check in," Silver Wolf sighs before raising an eyebrow. "Anyways, I'm pretty sure those numbers on your hand aren't nothing."

"What numbers?" Firefly acts clueless, hoping the shorter girl would let it go.

"Hey, don't act dumb. I'm clearly talking about the numbers written on your palm, that you're not so secretly tryna hide," Silver Wolf rolls her eyes. "Whatever it is, you're doing a bad job at hiding it."

It was now Firefly's turn to sigh. It had been a few hours since she was last with Robin. She had been wandering around aimlessly throughout the Golden Hour, looking at her palm from time to time. She couldn't grasp any plausible reason as to why someone as spectacular as Robin, would give her own number to Firefly of all people. But, if she told Silver Wolf… maybe she could give Firefly a few reasons? That girl had quite the number of ideas in her head, despite her size.

"It's a phone number," the silver haired girl reluctantly pulls her hand out in front of the two of them.

"And this is from…?"

"Uhm, It's Miss Robin's to be more specific."

"Robin? As in that Epsilon Singer you're practically obsessed with?" Silver Wolf crosses her arms, looking back up at Firefly.

"W-What? I'm not obsessed with her!" The girl pouts, denying the shorter girl's claims.

"Pft, tell that to the shrine you made for her," the hacker smirks.

"S-Shut up! It's just a collection!" Firefly stutters yet again. "Don't you have your own shrine of video games anyways, why am I the one being judged here?"

"It's because those video games are what you call a real collection. Your so-called 'collection' of Robin's albums seem a bit over the top."

"Are you just here to make fun of me?" The silver haired girl says. "Or are you actually going to help me?"

"Fine, chill out would ya?" Silver Wolf replies. "C'mon, tell me how'd you manage to get Robin's number."

Firefly begins to recount to Silver Wolf on how she had stumbled upon Robin. She mentions how Stelle had called Robin over, right before ditching Firefly, as well as the conversation she had with the Singer, who gave her the number before leaving. "She said she would be 'waiting for my text'...and then she left. I'm pretty sure that's about it."

"Huh. I think she's hitting on you," Silver Wolf says. "Damn Firefly, I didn't expect you to have this much game."

"Huh?!" Firefly's eyes widened. "But, how does giving me her number equate to that?"

"Are you for real right now? Why would anyone give their number to someone they just met? She's definitely into you."

Robin? Being into Firefly? The taller girl flushes at the thought, but she quickly shakes away the thoughts forming in her mind. There was no way that was possible. The singer probably just wanted to be friends at most.

"Well what should I do with it?"

"Text her, duh," Silver wolf deadpans. "She told you to do that, didn't she?"

"I-I guess so…" Firefly answers. "But what should I text her?"

"Just text her a pickup line or something, she'll probably like that," the shorter girl shrugs.

"Why would I ever send her a pickup line?! She probably just wants to be friends at most…"

Silence quickly falls between the two of them.

"I mean if you ain't gonna text her, I'll just do it for you," Silver Wolf smirks.

"I could probably send her a message like 'Miss Robin, I'm such a big fan!' or something" The girl continues, doing a poor imitation of Firefly's voice.

"W-What?! You are not doing that!" Firefly huffs. "I-I'll just text her myself okay?"

She pulls out her phone, as Silver Wolf peers over, typing in the series of digits before opening the messaging app.

Good afternoon Miss Robin, this is—

Firefly immediately deletes her sentence, fingers hovering over her keyboard. That was way too formal for a simple text message.

What's up, Miss Robin! How are y—

She deletes the message again, feeling that it was too casual this time.

"How hard is it to message her?" the Hacker asks. "Just go with something simple."

"But what if she thinks the way I type is weird!"

"First off, you're already weird in general. Secondly, she gave you her number didn't she? She probably likes weird Firefly."

Firefly rolling her eyes at the girl's comment. But she had to admit, the shorter girl was probably right. Firefly needed to take initiative. Just a simple short message and it'll be done.

Hi, Miss Robin. This is Firefly. It was nice meeting you earlier today.

She hits send immediately, before swiping the messaging app away, and turns to face Silver Wolf.

"Okay, done!" Firefly concludes. "She probably won't reply to me anyway but I did it, so don't hack into my phone."

"Don't worry, I was just joking," Silver wolf laughs. "And don't speak so soon, she'll probably text back in a sec."

"I mean, she's probably busy so I kind of doubt tha—"

Her phone buzzes.

"Told you."

Firefly scoffs, pulling out her phone yet again.

———

Robin

Oh, Firefly! I've been waiting for your message.

And there's no need for formalities, this is just a friendly off-stage chat!

———

"See, she wants to talk to you, you dumbass."

"I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that last part…" Firefly says, turning back to her phone.

———

Firefly

Sorry, I'm just not used to it, Miss Robin.

Robin

There's really no need to apologise, dear

Anyways, how are you?

———

The taller girl's cheeks warm at the pet name, earning her a questioning look on Silver Wolf's face.

———

Firefly

I'm fine, thank you.

What about you, Miss Robin? Are you not busy with your work?

Robin

Ah, well, I'm currently on a break from a photo shoot, so you're messaging at just the right time!

Firefly

You should rest then, Miss Robin.

I don't want to be taking up too much of your time…

Robin

Don't worry, I won't get in trouble or anything.

For you, I'll make time in my schedule ;)

———

Firefly continues to redden at Robin's forwardness. The Halovian really had no shame, did she?

"You're kinda looking like a tomato right now," a person she had forgotten about says next to her.

"No I'm not! It's just…allergies!" Firefly proclaims, furrowing her brows.

"There aren't even any plants here," Silver Wolf deadpans. "Whatever, I don't wanna interrupt the totally platonic texting you're participating in. Call me if you need anything."

The hologram flashes away, leaving Firefly alone again. She looks back at her screen.

———

Firefly

Miss Robin, you really should focus on your work…

Robin

It's completely fine! It's really my break right now, so there's no need to worry.

Plus, I've been eager to talk to you more, Firefly. So indulge me would you?

———

Firefly hesitates, but ultimately decides to continue texting Robin.

———

Firefly

If you say so…

Robin

Yay!

So, Firefly, ever since our conversation got cut short, I was wondering if you had any hobbies? Or any particular things you like to do?

Firefly

Well, I do enjoy being surrounded by nature. Sometimes I like to go out where plants can grow wild and I can admire the flora and fauna.

Robin

Oh really?

Firefly

I know it's silly, but I just find it relaxing.

Robin

No, no! It's not silly at all!

Funnily enough, I actually do enjoy being near nature too to get away from the hustle and bustle of the cities. Sadly though, Penacony doesn't really have many nature related options.

Firefly

Actually…I think sunshine park is a great place if you're looking for natural areas! I'm pretty sure it's in the Moment of Oasis?

I've been there before and it's very

beautiful in person.

Robin

Ah, actually I've been there when I was younger.

It's a shame I haven't had much time nor anyone to visit it with though…

Firefly

Well maybe we could go together sometime when you're free?

———

Firefly has already hit send before she realises the implication behind her words. What was she doing?! What would Robin think of her?! She rushes to correct herself but is instead distracted by the reply.

———

Robin

My, my, I didn't expect you to be this forward, Firefly.

But, since you asked, I would love to!

Firefly

Sorry but Miss Robin, you don't have to feel obligated to go with me

I'm sure you're busy and all…

Robin

Nonsense! It's a good opportunity for me to rest for a bit

I'd also get the chance to know you better

How does next weekend sound?

Firefly

I think I should be free…

Robin

It's settled then!

See you soon, cutie.

———

Firefly sends her a Pom-Pom sticker before switching her phone off, shoving it back into her pocket. Her cheeks still feel warm from reading the Singer's bold comments and she can't help but heave a sigh of relief. Somehow, what started as a simple text, ended up with her planning a meetup with Robin. Various thoughts raced through her head. Did it mean anything to Robin? Why would Robin ever go out with a random fan? Was Silver Wolf correct about Robin hitti—

The silver haired girl puts her head in her hands, blush continuing to rise.

"What am I even doing…"

Leaves crumple beneath her feet as she makes her way deeper into the park. The sun shone down on her, and there was a slight breeze in the air. She stops in her tracks for a moment, breathing in the fresh air, noticing a slight floral scent. The park was surprisingly peaceful that day. It was moments like these that Firefly particularly enjoyed. Simply being able to appreciate the beauty nature offers was enough for her.

She reaches for her phone with her free hand, checking her messages.

———

Robin

I'm near a big tree, somewhere in the middle of the park.

I'm sure you'll be able to recognise me :)

———

Firefly continues her journey into the depths of the park, perking up when she recognises a familiar hooded figure.

The person raises their head as Firefly nears them.

"Oh Firefly! Greetings, how are you today?"

"I'm well, thank you Miss Robin," Firefly answers, trying not to stutter. "Have you been waiting long?"

Robin was currently dressed like how she was the previous time they met—with the coat covering her figure—though this time, her sunglasses and mask were missing, allowing Firefly to get a proper glimpse of the Singer's face.

"No, not at all! I actually just got here," Robin says. "I haven't explored much, but the park is even better than I remembered."

"Ah, that's good then…" Firefly fidgets with her fingers. "Shall we head off…?"

"That's fine by me."

The pair begin their stroll, experiencing the flora and fauna surrounding them. The luscious green leaves of the trees and bushes, accompanied by flowers which brought a pop of colour into the park. They dive into conversation, with Robin laughing multiple times at Firefly's words.

"If you don't mind me asking, what do you have in your bag, Firefly?" Robin asks, pointing at said bag currently occupying the silver haired girl's hand.

Firefly lifts up the bag, showing Robin. "A-Ah, well, I just brought some food in case we got hungry."

"How thoughtful of you," Robin teases.

"Why don't we take a break over there then? We can continue our conversations there," the Singer resumes, pointing to one of the many trees in the park. "What do you say?"

"Uhm, sure!"

They settle down under the shade provided by the tree, and they sit opposite one another.

"Feel free to take anything you want, Miss Robin…" Firefly says, beginning to open her bag, pushing it towards the Singer.

"Thank you!" Robin smiles yet again, picking a sandwich from the bag.

Firefly, in turn, takes out her own choice of food, and the two begin to dig in. Their conversations quickly start up again.

"I don't mean to pry, Miss Robin, but aren't you dressed like the man that the gossip channels thought was frequenting your house?" Firefly asks out of the blue, nodding towards the disguise Robin had worn the last time.

The Stellaron Hunter had previously seen a picture being spread around on the Internet of a figure in a big blue coat. It was quite obvious that it was Robin, but for some reason all the gossip channels had concluded that a 'mysterious man' was visiting Robin. Many fans came up with theories on who the man was and what his relationship with the girl was. Of course, Firefly belived none of these 'conspiracy theories'. In fact, it completely baffled Firefly that thousands of people couldn't recognise the Singer—some fans they were.

"Oh that ? Well, if you haven't pieced it together already, it was me in that photo," Robin admits. "To be honest, I have no idea why they thought I was a man or why a man would be visiting me, but I had a good laugh about it."

"I mean, wasn't it quite obvious that you were in disguise?"

"Hah, maybe. But gossip channels love to make things up all the time—on celebrities' love lives or personal things just to name a few—all for a few clicks and likes. It's nonsensical really, " the Singer shrugs.

"A-Are you sure you're safe here, Miss Robin? Especially since we're out in the open? What would happen if they saw me, a random person with you and took it out of context?"

For one, Firefly was definitely concerned about what would happen if the Paparazzi caught sight of the pair, and what crazy stories they might stir up. Knowing Robin's fanbase, she probably would've been public enemy #1. But Firefly was also pretty sure that if a photo of her were to leak out in the news, her cover would most likely be blown and she would've gone against Silver Wolf's countless warnings and reminders; possibly disrupting the script.

"Hm, If you're worried about these 'reporters' appearing here, don't be. I'm sure no one will bother us here," Robin attempts to comfort Firefly. "Besides, they haven't been following me around lately, thankfully."

Firefly feels like she has entered a sour topic and she scratches her neck, guilt washing over her. "U-Uhm, sorry if I brought down the mood…"

"It's really not a problem."

"So…" she fiddles with her fingers, wanting to lift up the mood again. "How are you enjoying this visit to the park, Miss Robin?"

"It's nice," Robin concludes. "Being able to get away from the urban hustle, and be one with nature again… It's nice."

"I'm glad you're liking the experience then, Miss Robin," the silver-haired girl grins, happy.

Robin points near the corner of her own mouth, "oh, hey Firefly, you've got something on your…"

"Huh? Where?" Firefly blindy wipes her cheek, in search of the mess she had made.

"Here," Robin reaches out her hand, fingers brushing on Firefly's opposite cheek. "There. It's gone."

Firefly would be lying if she said she wasn't red right now. Hell , she had probably been red the whole time just being around Robin.

"U-Uh thanks!"

Robin says nothing and simply snickers, before continuing with her food. Firefly does the same.

It was probably only a minute before Firefly notices the Singer's gaze lingering on her—for an awkward amount of time.

"Is something wrong Miss Robi—"

"Shhh!" She says nothing, only pointing towards Firefly's shoulder.

She glances down only to notice a new addition to her current attire.

"Oh! It's just a butterfly," Firefly cautiously moves her hand towards it, allowing it to land on her palm.

She raises it higher, as though analysing the butterfly. "Isn't it beautiful?"

It was a pretty normal butterfly. Its wings were blue, with black details covering it. Its wings flap as it stays still on Firefly's hand.

"Indeed," Robin stares in awe at Firefly's calmness, who was currently fixated on the details of the butterfly. It was different from her usual nervous and flustered composure. "Where'd it even come from?"

"Well, the park is known to be a popular place for a bunch of insects…" Firefly says. "This little guy is probably just trying to get some nourishment."

"I didn't know butterflies would want to eat sandwiches…" Robin replies, oblivious.

"Oh, no, no they don't," Firefly smiles. "What I meant was, butterflies usually land on people because they're attracted to the salt or moisture from our sweat. They actually have taste buds on their feet!"

"Such fascinating creatures, aren't they?" the silver haired girl adds.

Robin stays quiet, continuing to look at the calm expression on Firefly's face—who seemed so interested in talking about butterflies as she rambled on.

"You seem to be familiar with butterflies," Robin states. "Are you secretly a butterfly-whisperer of sorts?"

Firefly snickers at the joke, lifting her hand as the butterfly takes off, disappearing into the distance. "Fireflies and butterflies often fly to me… I don't really know the reason why, but creatures like these have always interested me."

Robin giggles, upon hearing Firefly's words.

"H-Huh? W-Why are you laughing Miss Robin?" the Stellaron Hunter questions, suddenly feeling self conscious.

"No, no, it's nothing, I just didn't know you'd turn out to be such a nerd , Firefly," Robin teases, as the silver-haired girl begins to stutter. "It's a pleasant surprise."

"W-what?!" She feels a wave of embarrassment wash over her. "I-I'm really not—"

"I mean it, Firefly!" Robin giggles again. "I didn't expect you to be so knowledgeable about insects. It's endearing, really."

"U-Uhm…" Firefly pauses. "Well, thanks I guess, Miss Robin…"

"Plus, the face you make whenever I tease you is adorable too."

"Wha—?" The silver haired girl's face instantly feels a warm sensation reheating her cheeks again. Despite having been called adorable or cute by Robin multiple times already, Firefly still wasn't used to it or perhaps 'desensitised' for another word. Every time she heard Robin's teasing, it practically made her heart skip a beat.

"Pft—, that's the one!" Robin grins yet again.

Meanwhile, Firefly feels like she was about to explode at Robin's words and constant teasing. She really wasn't going to give the Stellaron Hunter a break, was she?

"You're— Y-You're so mean , Miss Robin!" Firefly folds her arms, looking away from the Singer.

"Aw, hey, don't be mad Firefly…" Robin reaches for the girl's shoulder, who flinches at the contact. "If you're really upset about it, I'll stop."

"It's… I-I uhm— wasn't that mad in the first place," Firefly states, eyes flickering between their surroundings and Robin's gaze.

Robin says nothing yet again, only smiling.

The pair turn back to different topics of conversation, as though nothing had happened. Time flew by and even though the sun had obviously stayed high in the sky, they both knew that it was probably time for them to part ways. They began their journey back to the entrance of the park, reluctant to let the moment together end.

"I had a really great time, Firefly," Robin hums. "Thank you for bringing me here today."

"It's no problem, Miss Robin," Firefly reassures the Singer. "I'm just glad you enjoyed it."

"I guess this is goodbye for now then…" Robin says.

"I guess it is," Firefly nods, preparing for Robin to take her leave. Instead, the halovian stands still, unmoving.

"U-Uhm, Miss Robin, did you need something?"

"Promise to text me?" Robin blurts out.

"Yeah, I will..."

Some time passes before Robin eventually nods, beginning her departure.

"Goodbye, Firefly," she says, the wings near her ears fluttering.

Firefly returns the smile, "Bye, Miss Robin."

As Robin leaves, Firefly simply hears the pounding of her heart resounding in her ears.

Emotion. Typically known as a strong feeling deriving from one's circumstances, mood, or relationships with others, emotions were no new thing for Firefly. Whether it was sadness, anger, joy—these were all familiar to her, it was only human of her after all, well, however far 'human' she was. But recently, she had felt something different , something she couldn't really grasp or identify.

Ever since her 'meet-up' with Robin at the park, the two had been texting each other almost everyday. It was mostly Robin's constant pestering—when she got bored in between her schedules—but Firefly didn't mind at all. Their text conversations were entertaining, and the Stellaron Hunter enjoyed it. The only problem was how she would 'feel'

Sly teasing, pet names, or simply outright complementing Firefly were what Robin's texts mostly consisted of. Sure, Firefly wouldn't say she was opposed to it, but each time such a message popped up, her cheeks felt warm and her heart seemed 'fuzzy' . She would laugh giddly at Robin's texts, leaving a confused Silver Wolf to decipher the reason behind the laughter.

Thinking back on it, such a description makes her sound like a lovesick teenage girl, who was hopelessly in love with their first crush—that would inevitably end up breaking their heart in a matter of time. Was this what this was…? A crush ? No, no —definitely not. There was no way she could possibly like Robin. She was probably just feeling this shy since Robin was her idol. Right?

It… wouldn't be right for them to date after all. A universally known Singer and a Stellaron Hunter wanted by the IPC, it was just a recipe for disaster. Besides, she was already lying to Robin about her actual identity.

Firefly shakes these thoughts away, preventing them from encroaching further into her mind. She was out of her mind for thinking she felt that way. It was most likely just her over active imagination acting up again.

"Remind me again why you're dragging me along?" A voice echoed beside her, reminding her of her current mission.

"Seriously Silver Wolf?" Firefly says, deciding that this conversation would take her mind off things. "I didn't drag you along, you agreed to come here with me."

"You didn't tell me you were planning to go souvenir shopping," the Hacker answers, her hologram flickering in between her movement forward. "If I had known, I would've just played my games. An event is going on right now, you know?"

"Hey, don't put the blame on me!" Firefly retorts, furrowing her brows.  "You could leave right now, and I won't even stop you."

Silver Wolf chooses not to reply, still silently following the taller girl, who smirks at her partner.

Currently, Firefly's 'mission' was to buy some souvenirs back for the other Stellaron Hunters, considering that she was the only one actually in Penacony's dreamscape. Kafka had given her her credit card, so money was no issue. In actuality, the real problem was the size of the Golden Hour. There were so many stores, so many sights to see, and Firefly still couldn't place her finger on which one to shop at. She hadn't had much free time to explore, considering how she had been caught up carrying out her part of the script.

The pair were currently venturing around Oti Mall. Extravagant stores surrounded them, and Firefly was practically blinded by the vibrant flashing lights of store signs. There was the usual flurry of activity at the shopping complex, with street vendors occupying areas within it, and like-minded shoppers crowding about.

She notices a quaint little store in one corner that seemed to sell little trinkets. Taking a peek through the shop's window display, she sees colourful objects scattered around the place.

"Hey, how about this store?" Firefly says. "There aren't many people inside, so we can probably keep a low profile."

"Whatever," Silver Wolf deadpans.

The bell located on the door chimes as Firefly pushes it open, feeling a gust of cool air hit her as she steps in, while Silver Wolf simply phases through the window.

The two take a moment to scan around the store just as something catches Firefly's eye.

"Oh look!" Firefly points to the object that drew her attention, while murmuring to the shorter girl. "Isn't this cute?"

It was a pile of cat keychains. There were all sorts of fluffy cat-lookalikes, ranging from different colours and fur patterns.

"We should get matching keychains for all of us!" Firefly continues in hushed whispers, trying to contain her excitement.

"Is this because our boss is a cat?" The hacker rolls her eyes.

"I guess it is cute though…" She adds, after a moment of silence.

"It can be our new mascot!"

"That's kinda lame…"

"I thought you said it was cute!"

"Yeah, but I didn't think cat keychains would rile you up this muc—"

The bell on the door rings loudly, sound resounding throughout the mostly empty and quiet store. The door is practically shoved open, as a cloaked figure walks in.

"Woah, who's that?" Silver Wolf says.

Firefly whips around to the commotion at the door. Wait a minute. Firefly knew that exact cloak and accompanying fedora, she had seen it before. Isn't that Robi—?

Her questions are immediately answered as the person in black perks up when making eye contact with Firefly, proceeding to rush over to her, grabbing her hands.

"Firefly…!" The recognisable voice spits out. "Thank goodness, you're here!"

"Miss Robin? What're you doing here?!" Firefly's eyes widen at the sound of the Halovians's voice "Did something happen?"

"I could really use your help," the Singer says quickly. "There's…There's this fan. They won't leave me alone. I've practically run around the whole Golden Hour but they still won't stop following me."

"I've only just managed to escape from their sight, but who knows if they'll come back again," She takes a deep breath before continuing. "I know it's a lot to ask… but could you check if they're somewhere outside? I'm… scared they're still there…"

Firefly now understands Robin's frazzled demeanor. It was no doubt terrifying to be stalked, and she wanted to do her best to help Robin.

Meanwhile, Silver Wolf simply listens to their interaction, saying nothing.

"Of course I'll help you Miss Robin," Firefly answers without hesitation, determined. "You just stay here okay?"

"Thank you, Firefly," she nods.

"Uh…here!" Firefly pushes Robin over to the filled shelf. "Why don't you look at these keychains to take your mind off things? You like cats right?"

"I'll go assess the situation outside," Firefly adds, heading towards the store's entrance, leaving a puzzled Robin to look at the keychains.

"Knight in shining armour much?" The Hacker suddenly says, following Firefly.

" Shut up ," Firefly whispers to Silver Wolf, as she pushes open the jingling door, trying not to look like she was speaking to a non existent person.

"Well, I'll leave you to it," the shorter girl says. "Try not to get too violent with this fan, okay? The bloodhounds are already looking for you, I don't think you want to add aggravated assault to your charges."

And just like that, Silver Wolf disappears yet again.

Firefly huffs, taking a step out, looking to left and right. She doesn't really notice anything amiss, Oti Mall was still packed with people. It was good that Robin had decided to hide in a crowded area.

Perhaps, the person had given up at this point. Were fans actually this obsessive? Firefly can't help but wonder if this was a daily occurrence for Robin. An uneasy feeling bubbles deep down inside her.

"H-Hey, you there! You just came out of that store right? Did you see anybody wearing a big dark coat enter the store?"

Firefly turns to find herself faced with a man of average build and dark brown hair. This must be the person Robin was talking about. She tries to keep her composure, putting on her most polite voice.

"There wasn't really anyone in the store, and I don't remember seeing anyone of your description," Firefly fidgets with her fingers behind her back. "Maybe the person you're looking for went somewhere else?"

"Are…Are you sure? No one was wearing a coat and fedora or anything like that?" The man doesn't seem to falter. "I could've sworn she went inside…"

"Yeah, I didn't see anyone like that. Sorry I couldn't be of much help. You could try next door."

The two stare at each other, as the sounds of cars blare past them, accompanied by the cacophony created by the passerbys. Firefly fiddles with her fingers behind her back, praying that the man would give up.

"Y-You're lying! I know I saw her go in!" Firefly's words only continue to anger the man as he furrows his brows. "Move aside—I'm going in."

"Sir, I already told you, I didn't see this person at all," Firefly retaliates, following the man's movement so as to prevent him from entering the store. "Try the other stores instead."

"Quit the act!" The man persists, only getting more irritated by Firefly's attempt to block him. "You're hiding her in there aren't you? To keep her all to yourself? Is that it?"

"I don't even know who the person you're referring to is," Firefly crosses her arms, acting clueless. "You only mentioned what they were wearing, nothing else. What would I even get out of lying to you?"

"I'm talking about Robin! I know she's in there," triggered by the Stellaron Hunter's words, he starts to raise his voice. "All I want to do is talk to her and you're just getting in my way! I'm her fan and she's always willing to talk to fans. But now, you're preventing me from doing so! She doesn't belong to you, okay ?!"

"Well, she also doesn't belong to you!" She's disgusted and angry at his words. "Just because you're a fan, it doesn't mean she's obligated to talk to you!" Did the singer's fans really just think that Robin was some toy? Incapable of her own opinions of emotions? She would really like to teach him a lesson right now…

"Ahah! So you admit she is in there!"

Shit.

"Move aside, I'm going in there whether you like it or not."

He reaches for her shoulder, attempting to push her aside. Firefly on the other hand, simply sees red. She channels her strength, giving him a rough shove by the shoulders so as to push him away from the entrance. "Don't touch me."

"You—" He stumbles backwards but quickly regains his footing, walking towards Firefly again. "Oh, you're really asking for it now."

"I'm telling you again, get out of my way or you'r—"

"Sir! Step away from the girl," Voices cut him off as two individuals rush over.

"What?" He spins around, confused.

Two people Firefly recognises as Bloodhound officers, head over to the man, confronting him.

"We've had a report of an individual harassing people on the streets," one of the officers explained. "Sir, care to explain?"

Firefly raises an eyebrow at this. A report? By who?

"O-Officers! The person you should be arresting is her ! She's blocking me from entering the store and she pushed me even though I didn't touch her at all!" He shouts manically, as though without a hint of guilt. "She's the real harasser!"

"Quit lying," the officer pats the man on the shoulder. "We've already seen you lay hands on the girl. She had every right to push you away."

"Now, do you want to follow us to the station peacefully? Or do we have to use force?" The other officer adds.

"F-Fine!" The man finally gives in, relenting. "I don't want to see her face anymore anyway, she ruined my chance to see Robin…"

"Yeah, yeah, save it for later," one officer escorts him away, while the other turns to Firefly.

"Are you alright Miss? He didn't hurt you or anything, did he?"

"O-Oh, no, I'm quite alright," Firefly lowers her head, looking away, in hopes that the officer wouldn't recognise her. "Thanks for your help, Officer."

"It's no problem, it is the Bloodhound Family's duty to ensure the safety of Penacony's guests and enforce order, after all."

She smiles at Firefly, nodding, as she chases after her partner.

Firefly heaves a sigh of relief, finally glad that the whole ordeal was over. She slips back into the store.

"Firefly! Are you all right?"

"I'm fine, Miss Robin. This 'fan' won't pester you anymore," Firefly waves her off. "In fact, I should be the one asking you that question."

"I'm quite alright now, thanks to you," Robin gives her signature smile. "It was lucky that you were here."

"I'm just happy, you're safe. I didn't do much anyways, thanks to the bloodhounds."

"Indeed, they were surprisingly quick this time," Robin nods in agreement.

"This time?" Firefly questions. Was this really a normal thing for Robin? How was she acting so calm about it now? "This isn't the first time this has happened?"

"Well, it's partially my fault…" The singer sighs. "I'm a bit careless sometimes with keeping a low cover and we all know how excited some fans can be..."

"You did nothing wrong," Firefly feels her anger reigniting. Was Robin seriously blaming herself? "Those jerks aren't real fans, they don't even treat you with basic respect! It is well within your right to not want to interact with them!"

"If…" Firefly huffs. "If you ever need help, I'll be there for you."

Robin seems taken aback by Firefly's sudden outburst, but she quickly recovers, chuckling.

"I never took you for the chivalrous type," the Halovian comments, grasping Firefly's hand with hers. "But, thank you nonetheless."

"It's nothing…"

The moment quickly ends just as fast as it had happened, though Firefly imagines Robin's touch lingering.

She disappears out of the store, mentioning something about celebrity stuff that Firefly didn't catch.

Firefly's practically standing like a statue, feeling like the whole interaction with Robin was surreal. She's simply glad that she was able to help Robin and keep her safe. Keeping her happy. This unusual friendship that blossomed out of nowhere, it was enough for now. Being friends and nothing els—

"Hey kid, are ya' gonna buy something or not?"

"S-Sorry!"

Friends. That's all there was to it.

"There you are!"

Firefly whips her head up to the sight of the Halovian—no longer in her 'disguise mode'. Periwinkle hair flowing, glowing emerald eyes, sparkling dress, was Robin in all her glory.

They were currently in the primordial dreamscape, or Dreamflux Reef for a nicer name. Robin had been the one to ask Firefly out this time, and of course Firefly accepted without hesitation. Though, she may have been a tad too eager, considering that she hadn't asked Robin for any details on their meeting whatsoever.

“It’s nice to see you again, Miss Robin,” Firefly smiles.

“The feeling is mutual then,” Robin nods. “Although…”

“Don't you think it's about time you drop the honorifics?” Robin teases, beaming at Firefly. The singer seemed to be in quite a good mood today. “I'm sure we're more than acquainted now.”

It was true that Firefly and Robin were closer now. There was no way Robin acted this way around just any fan—a thought that made Firefly's heart flutter.

But, it was also true that Firefly had been calming Robin ‘’Miss’ since their first interaction. Perhaps, Firefly just wanted to be polite, or because she had respect for the idol, but the habit had already formed.

“I'll try to, Miss Robi—” The Stellaron Hunter begins, but trails off when said singer gives her a stern look.

“Come on, say it!” She says in anticipation.

“I…”

“I'm waiting…” Robin replies in a sing-song voice.

“R-Robin,” Firefly says, cheeks going red.

“Now that that's settled…”,Robin giggles before snatching Firefly's hand. “Let's go before we're late!”

“H-Huh?”Firefly sputters, as Robin runs off, pulling Firefly along with her. “Wait, where are we going?!”

~

“Miss Robin! Miss Robin!” A swarm of juvenile voices appeared as Firefly and Robin made their appearance.

A bunch of children ran towards the singer, waving their arms in the air. Firefly stands there awkwardly as all the children crowd around Robin. Just what had Robin got her into?

“Miss Robin! Who's that?” One curious kid asks, pointing at Firefly.

Oh ? This is Firefly,” Robin responds, turning to face Firefly. “She’s very dear to me, so don't be too mean to her!”

“Uhm, hey kids…”

This in turn stirs up the children, causing them to bound towards Firefly, who proceed to ask her a multitude of questions—innocent ones like what she liked to do, or her favourite colour.

But there's just one question that struck out to her.

“Is she your girlfriend?” A bubbly girl exclaims.

Firefly is shocked by the question. Children certainly did ask whatever came to their mind.

Meanwhile, Robin seems unfazed, almost responding immediately.

“Sadly not, I'm afraid,” she says, causing Firefly to choke on her nonexistent words.

“Yeah, I-I'm not!” She sputters next, cheeks growing red as Robin's words bounced around in her head.

“Come now, children, let's not crowd around Miss Robin and her friend!” Firefly looks up to see a cheerful old lady gathering the children.

She waves towards Robin, who waves back. The children rush back to the lady, leaving the two alone.

“First of all, may I ask what we're doing here…” Firefly pauses. “...Robin?”

"Grace is a retired music teacher and she gives the kids here lessons," Robin smirks at Firefly's cautiousness. "I spent some time with them the first time I was down here…and it gave me some insights. I thought it'd be nice to visit again."

"Why bring me though?"

"Well, someone may have told me you missed my last performance and was down about it," the singer says. "Besides, with you here, it'll be even more fun."

"What? Who told you that?!" Firefly shrieks, embarrassed that Robin knew about that. "Was it Stelle?"

Robin simply grins, beginning to walk  towards Grace and the children.

"Don't ignore me!"

~

"Alright, repeat after me…" Robin instructs, before starting to say out her solfege syllables.

The children excitedly copy her, seemingly entertained by Robin's amateur music lesson.

On the other hand, Firefly was sitting in a corner of the room, content with watching the scene unfold. It was admirable to see Robin putting on her best to teach these children how to sing, while connecting with the children in the process. Laughter occasionally filled the room. This was what Firefly liked about Robin. Behind her glittering experience and dazzling persona, the purity and joy the singer brought to this world were what left a deep impression in the Stellaron Hunter.

"Hey, Firefly," Robin calls out. "Care to join us?"

"Thank you, but I'm fine just listening," Firefly shuts her down, not wanting to be roped into Robin's singing class.

"I'm not that good at singing anyways…" It wasn't exactly a lie. Firefly did enjoy singing and would consider herself 'okay' at it. Especially since her humming had somehow caused Silver Wolf to listen to Robin's album—but that's irrelevant. Firefly just didn't want to embarrass herself in front of a professional singer and idol.

"Aww, but the kids really want you to join in," Robin feigns a pleading look on her face, frowning at Firefly. "Don't you guys?"

The children's agreement echoed throughout the room, and Robin clasped her hands together, looking at Firefly. However many scenarios Firefly had imagined today would go—she definitely did not account for being guilt tripped by a bunch of children and Robin.

"Fine…" Firefly sighs in defeat, accepting her fate. "I'll join in."

Once again the cheers of the children fill the room again as Robin pulls Firefly forward with her.

The rest of the afternoon goes by in a whir. The class soon ended, but Firefly and Robin stayed to play with the kids. This mostly consisted of playing games like hide and seek—in which Furefly was declared the reigning Champion— to just talking with the children. In Firefly's opinion, it was more like they were babysitting the children, but she would be lying if she said she didn't have fun. Plus, it was time spent with Robin.

When Firefly returned from being dragged into an alleyway, to be introduced by some group known as the 'Dreamflux Gang' by one of the kids, she notices Robin's disappearance. The singer hadn't mentioned going anywhere at all, so this left Firefly confused.

"Excuse me, Miss Grace," Firefly says when she spots the older lady nearby. "Do you know where Miss Robin went?"

"Ah, you're the friend Robin brought along, aren't you?" Grace asks. "She mentioned something about wanting to take a walk. If my memory doesn't fail me, she should be near the Memoria Black Hole."

"Ah, I see. Thank you Miss Grace!"

"No, thank you for your help today, child," Grace smiles warmly, waving Firefly farewell.

~

"It's breathtaking isn't it?"

Firefly moves forward to the person in question, footsteps audible as they make their contact with the concrete below her.

"Yeah, it is..." She places herself beside Robin, who was leaning against the railing unmoving. Robin doesn't say anything else.

"Are you…okay?"

"I'm perfectly fine."

Firefly faces the source of Robin's attention. The Memoria Black Hole found within the Dreamflux Reef. With how enormous and endless it seemed, it was for sure not something you could easily come across.

"I had fun today," Firefly suddenly states, turning to look at Robin.

The singer hums in agreement, still staring ahead.

She doesn't know how long they had been standing there, silent. It was peaceful—but the air seemed to be clouded with a strange sort of tension, as though something was plaguing Robin's mind.

"Hey Firefly," Robin breaks the silence, not holding eye contact with the girl.

"I like you."

Firefly doesn't know what she expected Robin to say, but it was definitely not those three words. From her position, Firefly swears she can see a slight hint of red on the singer's cheek, as though bashful. Robin liked her? As in, liked her as a friend right? Deep down, Firefly knew she didn't deserve to be Robin's friend—having lied to her about her own true identity since the start. But that…that had to be the only possible interpretation of Robin's vague statement. It had to be.

Filled with a mix of denial and uneasiness, Firefly can only smile at Robin, before speaking.

"I like you too, Miss Robin!" She grins, but instantly regrets her words, when she sees the change in expression on Robin's face.

She witnesses the exact moment Robin's usually sparkling eyes lose their light, breath hitching, evidently hurt by Firefly's words.

Did she say the wrong thing? It's like a knife had been stabbed through her chest, when Firefly sees Robin with that look on her face. She immediately wants to take back her words.

"We've been here for quite awhile. I…" Robin finally takes a step back from the railing. "I think it's about time I return home and you should too."

She turns to walk away from Firefly, still avoiding eye contact, but the Stellaron Hunter grips on Robin's wrist before she could slip away.

She pulls Robin towards her, whose eyes finally meet hers. Her eyes were glossy, as though she was on the verge of tears. Robin seems somewhat stunned by Firefly's actions, gasping at the pull.

"Did…did something happen back there with the children? You don't seem like your usual self," Firefly asks, concerned about Robin's usual behaviour.

Hearing this, Robin huffs—right before smirking.

"I told you, I'm quite alright! Just a bit tired," Robin laughs it off, like she was returning to her old self again. Truthfully, Firefly knows that such laughter was fake—like Robin was trying to mask her own true emotions. But why

"Well, I'm still worried…" Firefly persists. "Are you sure you're okay?"

Robin merely sighs, ignoring Firefly's query. She inches closer, right in front of Firefly's face.

"U-Uhm, Miss Robin…?"

As she says that, Robin leans impossibly close, and Firefly feels a sensation on her cheek.

It takes a moment for Firefly to process what had happened, but when she does, she feels her face heat up.

Robin had just—

Firefly reaches a hand up towards her own cheek.

"I-I…" She blabbers, realisation hitting her in the chest. "You—"

"I'll get going now," Robin cuts her off, right before rushing off to Aeon knows where.

Firefly can't believe it. Those three words—were practically Robin confessing to her, and she had just messed it up in the worst way possible.

She can't comprehend how she had just proven herself wrong with just that one action. Despite her insistence about being strictly friends with Robin, whatever Firefly felt right now…

It was far from platonic.

+1

Oh.

Firefly had a crush on Robin.

She liked Robin.

And not just in a friend way.

Oh.

Despite being aware of her newfound feelings towards the Singer, the weight of such a realisation was only beginning to dawn on Firefly now.

Her stupidity and obliviousness—that made her reply purely idiotic—was like a rejection towards Robin's confession. Was that why Robin seemed so hurt? Because Firefly had practically rejected her?

And that kiss . Was Robin simply aware of Firefly's stupidity, and decided to do that as payback? To make Firefly a mess? It didn't seem too far off from Robin's teasing personality. But Robin hadn't contacted her since then, and Firefly was too scared to.

This was it. Firefly had officially messed up.

She groans, slamming her head against the table.

"Yo, Firefly, you good?" She hears Silver Wolf say.

Right. She was currently having a crisis at the worst possible time. Her, Silver Wolf and Stelle were in some diner in the Golden Hour. To be honest, Firefly had barely been listening in on the conversation, thoughts already preoccupied by the Halovian.

At this point, there was no use in denying and hiding it anymore. It was probably best for Firefly to get her feelings out of her system before she overloaded.

"I think I have a crush," Firefly says, but her words are muffled by the table.

"What did you say?" Stelle joins in.

"I said, I have a crush," Firefly dares to raise her head, facing the Trailblazer and the hologram.

The two seem a bit shocked by Firefly's words, eyes widening, though Stelle was the first to speak up.

" Hah! You and Kafka owe me 2000 credits!" Stelle declares, laughing while pointing a finger at Silver Wolf.

"Ugh, you don't have to act so smug about it…" Silver Wolf rolls her eyes at Stelle's triumph. "You win this time."

"Wait what?" Firefly perks up. "You guys made bets on me?!"

"Yeah, even Blade was in on it," Silver Wolf states. "Can't believe I owe him too."

"Why do you guys always make fun of me!" Firefly furrows her brows, eyes locking in on Silver Wolf.

"Cause it's fun," the Hacker shrugs.

"Woah, woah calm down," the Trailblazer hushes Firefly. "To be fair, I said that you would be smart enough to realise it."

"That doesn't make it any better!"

"Well, are you gonna tell us about it or continue whining?"

Firefly eventually calms down and relays the information to the two—not caring about being embarrassed now.

"So…you're telling me," Silver Wolf sighs. "She confessed to you and you friendzoned her?"

Firefly nods slowly, now registering that her reply to Robin was the worst possible form of rejection.

"Damn, I can't believe I won that bet…" Stelle chimes in.

"What do I do now?" Firefly asks, hoping her friends could give her reasonable advice for once. "I ruined it, didn't I?"

"It was kind of a dumb move, but you can still fix it," Silver Wolf says bluntly. "Can't you just apologise, and convey your feelings to her or whatever?"

"Yeah, and then you two can finally date for real!" Stelle adds. "It's not too late."

"But…I can't," she fiddles with her thumbs, staring down at them.

"Why not?" The Hacker says. "Are you scared she'll reject you or something? Cause I highly doubt that's gonna happen."

"No it's just…" Firefly's voice quivers. "I've been lying to her about my identity."

"What, that you're Sam?" Silver Wolf crosses her arms. "I don't think she'd care about that. She's practically head over heels for you."

"Yeah, I'm sure she'll understand if you explain it to her!" Stelle adds, in an attempt to comfort Firefly. "I mean, I did at least."

Stelle and Silver Wolf did have a point. Robin was one of the kindest people she knew—she would most likely understand Firefly's perspective. But still, a sense of guilt washes over her. If she were to go as far as dating the singer, she would only bring trouble and damage to Robin's reputation if the truth ever got out.

"What if she doesn't want to talk to me anymore because of itt?" Firefly shuts her eyes. "What if she hates me for it?"

"Firefly…" Stelle frowns. "I don't think Robin could ever hate anyone, especially you."

"But—"

"Listen Firefly," Silver Wolf cuts her off. "You're a good person, you know that? Just because we have a side hustle, doesn't mean we're evil or something. Anyone would be lucky to date you."

"Plus, she literally kissed you. I think we're way past the feelings part."

Firefly smiles at Silver Wolf's comforting words. Sure she could be blunt sometimes, but Firefly knew that deep down, she cared for the other Stellaron Hunters.

"I see. Thanks for the advice."

"So are you gonna ask her out now?" Stelle asks.

"I…think I will."

"So…wanna make another bet?" Stelle whispers to the Hacker.

"I'm down for another wager."

"Hey, I'm still here you know!" Firefly scolds as she whips out her phone.

Footsteps echo as a person walks up towards Firefly.

She spins to see Robin walking up towards her. She's somehow even more stunning in the low glow of the sunlight. Her heat races at the sight of the singer.

"Hey."

"Hi…"

Robin proceeds forward slowly, not saying anything else.

"This place is my secret stronghold," Firefly says as Robin appears beside her. "It's the closest place to the sky in the Dreamscape. I like to come here sometimes—to enjoy the scenery, the tranquility, undisturbed from the bustling Golden Hour."

"It's magnificent. I didn't know such a place existed in Penacony," Robin murmurs.

She looked to be admiring the skyline of pastel colours, accompanied by the soft chirping of the origami birds in the background. Her heart skips a beat as she looks at Robin, still as breathtaking as ever.

It was time to get it off her chest.

"I'm sorry…" She takes a deep breath. "I'm not who you think I am."

"I know," Firefly's breath hitches at Robin's reply. "You didn't really seem like a local."

Robin knew ? And yet she still wants to be friends with Firefly? Maybe…she hadn't ruined it after all. She had a chance to fix things.

"My hometown was destroyed a long time ago, by the Legion or the Swarm—so I haven't had a place to call home for a long time," Firefly continues. "When I met you that day, I didn't expect for us to go further than that, so I lied about my identity."

"But you were so persistent in being friends, and every time we hung out…I was eventually too deep into the lie. I had this sense of guilt eating away at me for lying to you. I-I knew that if I told you, you would probably freak out or be scared," she closes her eyes, not wanting to look at Robin. "And when you kissed me—that's when I realised I had to tell you the truth. I'm not just a stowaway on Penacony…"

"I'm Sam—a Stellaron Hunter," Firefly's heart is going a mile a minute as her voice shakes. "I…understand if you want to have nothing to do with me and my companions. I'll respect your wishes no matter what."

"I'm sorry, again. For lying."

She expects Robin to get mad, or atleast question her. But she's only met with soft laughter. As she opens her eyes, she's met with Robin smiling.

"I'm not joking Miss Robin," Firefly furrows her brows.

"I know," Robin giggles again. "It's just that—you practically friend zoned me—because you were scared of what I would think about your other identity?"

Well, this was certainly unexpected.

"Oh Firefly ! I can't believe you thought that I would be so close minded. I don't care who you are," Robin smiles. "Even as Sam, you're still Firefly, aren't you?"

Firefly hadn't seen it that way before. SAM was a product of a war—the meaning of her own existence and vitality. She didn't even have a proper name during the invasion of the Swarm. But 'Firefly' was the identity she created—the one her friends all knew her as, the one she made the most memories of. Sam wasn't all of her, but a part of her that makes up 'Firefly'.

"I…hadn't seen it like that before."

"If you're more concerned about the actions of the Stellaron Hunters scaring me, just know that everyone has done 'bad' things," Robin says. "My brother, Sunday…He went against the Harmony and was influenced by the Order. He tried to put the whole Penacony in a permanent Dream. Even though we took different paths—I still love him."

"Hell, even I've done some things that I may regret in the future," the Singer sighs, looking at Firefly. "Despite your other identity…You're still the Firefly I like. The one who makes me laugh. The one who was willing to stand up for me. No one can change that."

"Ah…" Hearing this Firefly can't help but feel her eyes water and she returns the laugh. Robin really was an angel. "Sorry. I always bring the mood down don't I?"

"You're stupidly cute," Robin chuckles, reaching forward to wipe the stray tears on Firefly's face. "If you're so sorry, then why don't you think of something to lighten the mood?"

Facing Robin, looking into her eyes, she notices they were glistening in the sun. Robin was practically glowing—funnily enough—ever since their first meeting, Firefly would say that the Halovian had lightened up her life.

She doesn't know what possesses her to do this.

Firefly leans in, surprising Robin—and closes the distance between them.

There's a split second where Firefly freezes at Robin's motionless state—and she wonders if her impulse decision wasn't the right one. If she had interpreted Robin's feelings the wrong way again. But soon enough, Robin follows through, cupping Firefly's cheek gently. A warm sensation flows through her heart, and all Firefly can say about it, is that it felt right.

After some time, they both pull away. Firefly can't help but grin at the red enveloping Robin's face. Seeing the Singer blushing, causes a wave of confidence to wash over her.

"I think you've got something on your face," Firefly teases, gesturing at her own cheek.

"I—" Robin stutters, avoiding looking at the Stellaron Hunter. "Y-You're so—"

To Firefly, it's thrilling to see how the usually composed Halovian—who was always the one doing the teasing—suddenly so flustered. It only makes Firefly want to tease her more.

"It's funny how you're the shy one now, Miss Robin," Firefly grins.

"Don't…" Robin quickly collects herself. "You just kissed me for a whole minute, don't call me 'Miss Robin'!”

"S-Sorry, my bad..." She apologises, and the two girls burst into laughter once more.

Truth be told, Firefly doesn't know what the future has in store for her, or what challenges and opportunities she'll face.

But with Robin by her side, she's sure she'll do just fine.

Notes:

7k words in I realised how cringe this was but I persevered through and somehow ended up with 11k words. My phone lagged from the sheer amount of words so editing was a pain lol.

I might participate in Robifly Week if I write fast enough.

Anyways, kudos and comments are much appreciated, and I hope you enjoyed this dumpster fire of a fic!

Thanks for reading!
