Summary
He'd failed Obito. Failed Rin. But Sasuke... he'd failed Sasuke most of all. He wasn't a child for that particular failure, didn't have the excuse of youth or inexperience. He was a jounin-sensei, given one of the most sacred responsibilities in the world, and he'd broken Sasuke's heart with his inability to be there for him like he needed.
And everything — everything — that had happened since then was entirely his fault.
So it didn't bother him that he was still spending nearly every waking moment with Sasuke. Taking care of him, easing his stress, keeping him from getting lonely, putting up with his vitriol. Ignoring the gnawing feeling that this was something deeply unhealthy building between them, because he had already decided he would be whatever Sasuke needed him to be, even if it hurt.
