When the matching rings appeared on their hands, they’d been confused. Gold clashed with Irep’s color palette, and black titanium was not Peri’s style. They were soon informed that they were now co-godparents of that Dimmadome kid. Dev. Sure, Irep had been Dev’s pseudo-godparent before, but now it was official. And what was even more fun was that, according to a millenia-old obscure fairy law, that meant Irep and Peri were now legally married. It made Irep feel vaguely ill to think about.
If Irep was upset, Peri was beyond livid about the situation. But it was true. Neither Jorgen nor the Anti-Fairy Council could do anything. They’d both been assigned to help the same kid, Irep as a scary godparent and Peri as a fairy godparent. Peri didn’t even know scary godparents were a thing! Obviously, they had very different ideas about how to do their respective jobs. Dev was not an easy kid for Peri to handle even without Irep around, so Dev and Irep together created an exhausting mess to deal with every day.
… unfortunately, spending this much time with Irep reminded him of the anti-fairy’s admirable qualities. He was insanely smart, and could get Dev to listen to him easily. And the urge to just shut him up with a kiss was getting harder and harder to ignore. That evil smile haunted him in his dreams. He wanted to feel those fangs against his neck and it was beginning to interfere with how well he was doing his job.
Irep hated the purple-haired fairy with his entire being. His hatred was so eternal, lasting through time and space, and so far reaching, that he hadn’t even noticed when it became entirely too romantic. Maybe it had always been. But once he realized, he quickly became more and more aware of their weird aggressive-romance. It made him flustered. His chaotic magic wouldn’t quite work right when Peri would roll his eyes fondly, or drape an affectionate arm around him. It was especially bad when they would fight. He felt like swooning whenever Peri won a fight against him, when he'd look at Irep with so much hostility burning just behind his eyes. His dad was going to kill him.
Dev noticed the weird tension between the duo immediately. He also noticed that both were entirely too preoccupied with hiding their own feelings to notice the other’s weird behavior. He just chose to ignore it most of the time, unless he could use it to his advantage. Today was one of those days. He’d managed to pit them against each other with just a few sentences, and slipped away with both of their wands.
They’d almost kissed during the argument, yet again, before realizing what happened.
Irep had always been impressed with how sneaky Dev was, but he was beginning to worry. They hadn’t found him anywhere. The magical world was not a hospitable place for a bratty ten-year-old and with each hour, he grew more and more afraid that they’d find him face down in a ditch. Fortunately, Wanda and Cosmo called soon, saying they’d found Dev. He’d just been hanging out with Hazel and trying to impress her with magic. Peri’s parents offered to watch the kids for the rest of the day. They accepted gratefully, but quickly stopped by to pick up their wands. Irep was surprised to find that the worst treatment he would receive from the couple during that interaction was an apprehensive stare. Cosmo had even given the pair his very belated and very useless blessing of marriage.
After that particularly wearisome day with the kid, the two had gone to a bar in the human world together to unwind. Peri, always a lightweight, became embarrassingly touchy after his second fruity cocktail. Irep tried to keep it together as the purple haired man clung to him, but the way his hand trembled as he raised the shot to his mouth gave away just how nervous he was. Peri had just snorted and said it was cute. Irep choked when he felt lips connect gently with the back of his neck. He stood abruptly, planning to excuse himself for the night before he looked into Peri’s big purple eyes. He couldn’t bring himself to pull away from the fairy. Oh, he was screwed, wasn’t he?

Peri was a little embarrassed to wake up next to his own anti-fairy in a giant evil castle. He’d quietly slipped away and picked up Dev by himself that morning.
Irep woke up in an empty bed, almost disappointed for a minute before he’d heard his father’s maniacal laughter echo through the castle. It was probably a good thing Peri had left so early. Honestly, he did not even want to show up for work today, a little apprehensive of the awkwardness that would inevitably ensue, and seriously considered quitting before remembering why he’d volunteered for the experimental scary godparent program in the first place. Making important strides for anti-fairy rights and whatnot… ugh. He’d met up with the kid and his opposite soon after.
Dev was scared. They were acting so weird today. Was this about the stunt he pulled yesterday? No, they seemed… awkward with each other. Both had pretty bad eyebags today, too, and… oh. Dev cleared his throat.
“So… did you two have an interesting night?”
The two magical creatures sputtered next to each other, before unleashing a slew of words at the same time.
“Wha- no, why would you..”
“Absolutely not-”
“We would never-”
Dev just rolled his eyes. “I’m sorry, by the way. For stealing your wands yesterday. But if it finally resulted in you two getting over your weird tense enemy/romance thing, I'm not actually that sorry.”
“WH- Development Devin Dimmadome, you take that back!”
