Work Text:
“We have with us here today Dynamight and his surprise husband, renowned quirk analyst, Midoriya Izuku.” The interviewer announced.
Bakugou just rolled his eyes. Izuku really shouldn’t have been a surprise. He was still confused at why everyone has made such a big fuss over this. They’ve been married for his entire time as a pro, and he never tried to hide him.
The interviewer turned to face them on the couches opposite the desk she sat at. She leaned forward with a bounce in her actions. “I think I speak for everyone here and in the nation when I say I have so many questions!”
“We wouldn’t be here…” Bakugou was cut off by Izuku.
“Well we are happy to be here to answer anything you throw at us!”
“Well,” the interviewer turned back to the audience for a bit to say her next thought. “I guess we should explain for any viewer that is living under a rock and hasn’t heard the shocking news. Just three days ago, Dynamight revealed to a reporter after a vicious villain attack that he stopped, that he was going home to his husband! The public has never even known that Bakugou-san was with someone! Of course we had to get them on the show.” She turned back to them. “So I guess we can start simple. When do you two meet?”
Bakugou just huffed and slumped more in his seat. He really did not want to be here but PR was making him. Well, not just his PR but Izuku himself commanded that he do this interview, so now here he was. His only saving grace is that everyone mutually agreed that Bakugou should let Izuku answer any and all questions that he can.
“Oh!” Izuku smiled. “We met back as babies. Our mothers knew each other in college, so we’ve been friends since day one!” The whole crowd awwwed as one as a picture of the two as toddlers was presented to them.
Bakugou sat up real fast in his chair as he whipped to Izuku. “What the fuck! Why did you give them that picture!” He yelled, face red.
Izuku just smirked in return, but then turned his face innocent so the crowd could see. “I just thought that it would be nice.”
“Wow!” Exclaimed the interviewer, like she didn’t know this information beforehand. “If you have known each other for that long, when did you two get together?”
Bakugou laughed out loud at that one. How the hell do they explain?
“Heh,” Izuku chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. The interviewer just looked at them confused. “That is kind of hard to pinpoint, to be honest.” Izuku went on to explain. “I think it is safe to say that we have always liked each other, but it wasn’t always easy. Around the last year of middle school, we had a falling out that lasted a little while. Before that, neither of us said or did anything about our feelings. I know I just denied them. I was too afraid of messing up our friendship, and I didn’t…”
“Deku stop rambling,” Bakugou muttered as he lightly smacked Izuku on the back of his head.
“Oops,” Izuku’s face turned red as he rubbed the back of his neck self-consciously once again. “Well, I guess long story short, we made up before the year end, and just kinda fell together. I don’t know who made the first move, but we started to hold hands, do things, and cuddle without expressly saying anything.” Izuku shrugged when he finished.
“That is quite the timeline for you too. And hard to imagine Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight being domestic in that sense.”
“Oh, Kacchan is plenty domestic and romantic. Whether or not people expect that.”
“Oi!” Bakugou yelled at this.
“What? You know you are” Izuku smirked at him again.
Bakugou muttered under his breath, “just shut up…” Izuku just chuckled while looking back at the interviewer.
“Well then,” the interviewer continued, “The biggest question then is when did you two get married and how did you manage to keep it a secret? Both of your names are famous in the nation and yet no one knew!”
“Oh!” Izuku starts only to be interrupted by Bakugou.
“8 years ago. Right when I became a pro. Wasn’t supposed to be a secret. You all are just blind.” At that, Izuku smacked Bakugou on the back of his head.
“What he meant was that we never planned for it to be a secret. It just kind of happened that way because our friends assumed, my husband’s oblivious, and I got way too much entertainment out of it all to reveal it.” Izuku laughed lightly with that info drop.
“What do you mean I’m oblivious?!” Bakugou growled as he leaned closer to Izuku’s face.
“I mean that you never noticed the extreme measures your friends took to stop you from talking about me in every damn interview and public event.”
“What do you mean by that Midoriya-san?” The interviewer interrupted, confusion coating her face.
After having succeeded in pushing Bakugou back into the couch cushions, Izuku looked at the interviewer to answer.
“Well, I guess our friends just assumed we wanted to be a secret, but they faced the challenge of the fact that Kacchan always talks about me,” Izuku said with a deadpan expression. “And I mean always.”
“I do not!” Katsuki yelled trying to sit up again, but Izuku still kept him pinned.
“Yes you do,” Izuku said to Katsuki, patting the shoulder that his hand rested on. “It’s very sweet.” He once again turned back to the interviewer. “I have a compilation video if you want that shows what they all did to stop him from talking in interviews. It, honestly, is the funniest thing I have seen, and the one video I have is just a few months worth of material. I make a new one every so often because this idiot gives me a lot to work with.”
“Who are you calling an idiot!” Izuku just patted his shoulder again.
“Oh, do you have it here with you today?” She asked intrigued, ignoring Katuski’s outburst.
“Of course,” Izuku said, smirking. “This is the latest one I made of the past few months worth of shots.” He proceeded to whip out his phone and mess with it for a minute, perfectly evading Bakugou’s hands that were trying to grab it from him with practiced movements.
Soon enough an image of Bakugou came on screen. It was obviously after a villain attack as he was beaten up and tired looking. Izuku pressed play while Katsuki just leaned back on the couch with his arms crossed. If people didn’t know better, it would look like the number hero Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight, himself, was pouting.
Bakugou could be heard to be giving a response, the question was cut off from the video. “I’m planning on just going home to my…”
“BAKUBRO!” A spiked red head cut in front of the camera just at that moment.
“Shove off shitty hair!” Bakugou barked as he started walking pointedly away.
The video cut to a new one, but looking very similar.
“Yeah, I was just following the advice of De…”
“Dynamight!” An electric blond could be seen coming into view. “The police need a statement from you!”
“Stop yelling pikachu!” Bakugou grumbled as he once again walked off.
The video cut again. “Deku and I…oof!” Bakugou was cut off as the hero Cellophan could be seen crashing into view landing on Bakugou, himself.
“Get off soy sauce face!” Bakugou shrieked.
“Oops sorry Bakubro, just kinda slipped.”
More and more videos continued along this line. Mina could be seen “slipping” and throwing acid at the camera. Kaminari could be seen shocking the camera man and short circuiting the electronics by “accident.” Kirishima was regularly interrupting interviews by throwing his arm around Bakugou and changing the conversation. More people dropped on him, shoved him out of the way, redirected conversations, and even more elaborate schemes. There were even classmates that weren’t a part of the Bakusquad that joined in. Uraraka could be seen in one video tripping and activating her quirk on Bakugou. Iida would rush in with “important” information to pass on. The trend continued until the video reached 10 minutes.
The last video in the compilation was the video that revealed Deku to the world. Bakugou was once again at the scene of a just finished battle. The battle consisted of just him and was over relatively quickly. A reporter just so happened to be close and was able to catch him after for a quirk interview. The first few questions were safe, but nearing the end the interviewer asked one question that changed it all. It was an inconspicuous question to say the least. Bakugou had fought off the clock and as such was wearing civilian clothes. The interviewer just asked what he was doing before the attack. Safe, right? Well to the horror of the Bakusquad that was racing to the scene to intercept, they arrived just in time to hear him say, “Well I was just grocery shopping for mine and my husband’s dinner when that asshole decided to get in my way, and even if I am off the clock, I am still a hero,” Katsuki said with a nonchalant shrug like he didn’t just drop a bombshell on everyone.
Mina, Sero, Kirishima, and Kaminari could suddenly be seen in the background almost in tears, as they all collapsed on the ground. Bakugou, noticing them, decided to leave the stunned reporter and yell at them. That is when the video stopped.
Izuku was cackling on the couch as the video played through. When it came to an end, he sighed and wiped the tears from his eyes. Bakugou was stunned. “That’s why those idiots came to the attack?!” He asked incredulously.
“Ah, man,” Izuku let out one last laugh. “Yep, you had already finished by the time they heard so they booked it to censor you, but they didn’t make it in time, and now all my entertainment is gone.” Izuku sighed again, shoulders wilting in disappointment.
The interviewer could be seen stifling giggles of her own. “So, Midoriya-san, you knew the whole time?”
“Yep!” He exclaimed. “I’ve known since day one, my first video even has some moments before he went pro and we got married. It was just too good to stop.”
Bakugou could be heard grumbling but the mic didn’t pick up his exact words. Izuku could obviously understand though as he laughed again and smacked his hand against the other’s thigh.
“So no, we never meant for it to be a secret, everyone just assumed and we, well I guess I, rolled with it.” Izuku ended with an innocent looking smile.
“So if you never meant for it to be a secret, does that mean you both don’t worry about villains finding out and using Midoriya to get to you, Dynamight-san?” The interviewer looked towards Bakugou, but whatever she was looking for, she didn’t get. Instead Bakugou just barked a laugh.
“Right, if anyone tried to use Deku, they’d have to face Deku and I’d like to see them try.” Izuku could be seen rolling his eyes. “Plus he is the top quirk analyst in the world, he already has a target on his back, being married to me doesn’t change anything.”
“What do you mean by that Dynamight-san?” She questioned.
“I mean,” Bakugou continued looking towards Izuku. “When was your first kidnapping?”
“WHAT?” The interviewer looked shocked as did most of the audience.
“Ah,” Izuku chuckled lightly. “I think it was your second year of UA. By that point, I had already started up my personal business with many hero companies and individuals and started to expand.”
“That’s right,” Bakugou nodded as he laid his head against the back of the couch looking to be reminiscing. “That was with that one knowledge based quirked villain, right?”
“Yeah,” Izuku nodded along. “Although his quirk supposedly upped his IQ, he was too stupid to tie up his kidnappee properly.” Izuku shook his head as if in disappointment. “The heroes never even knew I had been taken.” Izuku and Bakugou both rolled their eyes at the memory.
“By the time I had come after you, you had already made it halfway home and were berating the heroes over the phone while telling them where to find the villains.”
The interviewer looked lost as the two husbands exchanged comments back and forth between them. As confused as she was though, she was not going to stop them from continuing.
“I mean just last month you were kidnapped again. Still no one knew you were connected to me apparently.” Bakugou scoffed.
“Yeah, that one was very basic too. You were too slow to do much.”
“Oi!”
“Wait,” she finally interrupted. “What happened last time, can you elaborate? I am sure we are all curious.”
“This nerd got himself kidnapped by these lame fuckers” Bakugou started. “They wanted him for his brain, but they were too stupid to think of who they actually got.”
***
Bakugou was just out patrolling when he got the distress signal from Deku. He instantly pulled out the tracker to see where he was going.
'Goddammit Izuku, can’t you go just one month without a problem?'
Meanwhile, Izuku was lying tied up on a stretcher that the villains had. Well this is original at least he thought. The villains hadn’t even covered his eyes. Yes, he was in the back of a van with no windows, but still. Amateurs he scoffed. All it took was a quick look around them to understand who they are and what they could do, but Izuku had to wait a little longer to gather more information.
About ten minutes later, the van stopped, and Izuku was pulled from the back of the van and roughly pushed along gravel into a warehouse. They crossed through a few rooms before he was moved from the stretcher to a chair in the center of a big room roughly three stories tall and about as wide around as a baseball field. There was a ramp leading up to a raised part of the floor that went around the whole room by the wall. From where he sat, Izuku could see about 10 men either milling around or working on electronics.
“What are we supposed to do with him?” One man asked.
“I don’t know, the boss didn’t say.”
“I say we mess him up.”
“Hey the boss said to leave him be until he gets here.”
“I don’t care what the boss said; I just want to have a little fun.” At this many of the men started talking over each other either encouraging the man or getting on to him. Off to the side was one lone man covered in a three piece suit that had been with him in the van. He didn’t say anything during this, but he obviously sided with the man going against their bosses orders. After a while of yelling, he stepped forward.
“Why don’t we all just get back to work, if the boss ain't here in a few then we can have a little fun.” His voice just sounded slimy. The other men grumbled but went back to their various projects. A few minutes passed before a few of the men got close enough to Izuku for him to finally take action. With all the unrest among the men and the disorder, he figured it would just take a singular comment to cause the chaos he would need.
With all the care of one acting as another crewmate and not a kidnappee, Izuku mumbled out, “Why do we listen to that washed up mobster anyway. Could do better myself.”
The men around him whirled toward each other.
“What the hell did you say?” One said pushing another.
“Wasn’t me, idiot.” The other yelled back. “Don’t blame that on me!”
Both turned towards the third man nearby and started yelling. More of the lackeys entered this fight, no one knowing who actually said what, just that the tension finally snapped.
Izuku watched carefully and whenever a group nearby seemed calm, he would throw his two cents in making sure none of them knew it was coming from him. Now instead of just verbal fighting, punches started to be thrown as well as quirks being used.
In the chaos, Izuku bided his time and slipped the restraints from his wrists. Really, they should be better at tying up hostages, but who was he to complain. Then came the time Izuku had waited for. The man in the full three piece suit stepped out from where he was also watching the chaos. Izuku watched as he took off his suit coat and rolled up his sleeves. A light blue-gray mist was released from his skin, and one by one the men around him started to sway.
“Now, now, idiots, now is not the time to fight,” he chuckled maliciously as he reached back to his back belt loop. The smirk that resided on his face slipped to confusion then to fear as he started to frantically look around and pat his belt. Men started to pass out around him and the mist still sprayed from his skin. In his panic, he did not think of stopping the gas being released from his skin. Only when the man started to sway and dip himself did he look to Izuku, who sat patiently in his chair, with a gas mask on his face, arms crossed.
“You really should be more aware of your surroundings,” Izuku said as the man passed out. Then to the silent room, he murmured, “I give Kacchan 5 more minutes.”
***
“He ended up being 3 minutes late,” Izuku shared as he shook his head at his husband.
“I wasn’t late, fucker. Plus you could have finished it yourself, but when I got there, I still had to fight the outside ring, and while I did that, you drank your tea!” Bakugou yelled at him.
“Wait!” The interviewer interrupted. “How did you get the gas mask and how did the last guy pass out?” She asked in shock, and then almost as an afterthought she added, “and where did you get the tea?”
Bakugou seemed to puff up in response, “My husband is literally the most sought after quirk analyst in the world and people are still shocked at what he can do.”
“Kacchan!” Izuku smacked Bakugou’s arm as his face started to turn red.
He turned back to the interviewer, though, to answer, “well it wasn’t hard. In the van on the way to the warehouse, the man stood right beside me and I saw the gas mask on his back belt loop, figured couldn’t hurt to take first and analyze second,” Izuku started to explain with a small shrug.
“When I got the chance to take a look around at all of the men, their quirks all gave themselves away. The man in the suit covered every inch of skin except his face. Arms, hands, legs, neck all covered. I figured that meant his quirk must come from his skin. The fact that he was completely covered and no one batted an eye, led me to believe that his quirk is not one he can turn on and off consciously but must be covered. Then he had the gas mask on himself when no one else did, meaning that someone on the crew had a gas related quirk and the signs all pointed to that very man, also meaning that his quirk would affect himself.
“Then all I had to do was create an opportunity for him to be forced to use it. With how he carried himself opposed to the rest of the crew members meant that he probably had an ego, meaning that he would rather gloat than admit weakness and a gas mask for his own quirk would be admitting that. So only after everyone else would be gone would he reach for it. I could exploit that fact. So after he started, I put it on and voila.”
Izuku said with a flare of his hands as if completing a magic trick.
“All it takes is a little analysis and incompetent kidnappers,” He said with a smirk. “And as for the tea, that’s my little secret.” He finished with a wink as the interviewer looked stupefied.
The studio was silent as everyone listening just paused in awe. Who was this man that could take down so many men while he was both quirkless and tied up, never lifting a finger.
A red light flashed at them from behind the camera alerting them to only having a few minutes left.
“Plus,” Bakugou cut in before the interviewer could ask anything else or finish the interview. “If anyone ever tried to harm him, they’d have me to answer too.”
The temperature in the studio seemed to drop ten degrees as Bakugou gave a feral grin right at the camera. It really seemed he was talking to villains directly.
Izuku leaned forward into Bakugou’s space as he stared at the camera as well, his face deadly serious. “And if anyone tries to harm Katsuki, they have to deal with me.”
The temperature plummeted further as visible shivers could be seen sweeping through the audience. No one knew or could understand how a quirkless man who seemed like an embodiment of sunshine one second could inspire more fear than the number one hero did with his threat in the next.
Out in the world, a few villains shivered as they watched the interview. Maybe a few plans ended up changed after that, but no one would ever know. And if Izuku beat his record of days not kidnapped since the beginning of high school, well that was just a coincidence, surely.
