Work Text:

Snow glittered down from the sky, dusting the sidewalks of Japan in a thick layer of white as you traversed the street in your thick winter coat and boots. A few paper bags rustled in your purchase as you shifted to press the pedestrian call button to get across the street safely. You were on your way back home from a last-minute shopping trip for some late Christmas gifts—seeing as the holiday was right around the corner. It wouldn't be long now until your husband started complaining about hosting this year's party, he would get over it. He always did and despite his protests, he always ended up enjoying himself. This year, however, you had a special surprise for your beloved, Number 1, Pro-Hero. All you had to do now was give out chores to Class As Heroes and involve the self-proclaimed "BakuSquad" in your little scheme. It was going to be a holiday to remember—that was for sure. You weren't sure how Katsuki (Cot-skii) was going to take the news, you could think up a bunch of different reactions that he could give, but he would still be highly unpredictable; an attribute that you begrudgingly accepted from his smug mug the day he surprised you with a promise ring in high school.

Shuffling up the sidewalk, you buzzed into the Double H (Heroing Housing); a large gated community for residents that were under high-profile security—most being the direct family of a hero from the top 50 or so. Originally, most were against the idea of a subdivision; they felt as if it would divide them more from the civilians and make them seem less human. But after a certain incident the mainstream media and public thought it would be best to keep their protector's families safe from harm's way; it was a sort of roundabout way of saying thank you for protecting us, now we'll try and protect you.

After All Might and the War ended against the league, the council and the public safety commission had to be re-established. People didn't trust heroes or the system, opening a rift between them that stopped people from relying so heavily on them. The world had changed drastically in a matter of a year, and It took even longer than a few years to gain the trust back. But as soon as Class A graduated—they quickly garnered the hearts of the people, winning over the public with their unique personalities and fierce ideals because they too were victims of a system that had failed them. That was supposed to protect them, but that was 10 years ago. Times have changed and the world has healed—now it was time to live their lives as they saw fit. This is why you all agreed that like any job, you would take a day to be a civilian. Humans. Just for a little while.

Stumbling a few doors down the long street, you unlocked your house door and toed off your boots—slipping into a pair of house slippers and packing away your last-minute gifts in a compartment above your laundry room dryer. You would set them up later on in the week, under the tree that sparkled in your living room with cheap Christmas lights and homemade ornaments. For now, you would settle in, pull up a cheesy rom-com, and wait for the sound of your husband's steel-toed boots to hit against the hardwood floor when he returned to you later on in the day.

———

You don't remember exactly when you fell asleep, but it was sometime around midnight when you were startled awake by a loud bang and a startled curse.

"Shit—!"

You grumbled as you sat up against the plush, black couch, twisting your body over the back to see into the hallway that led to the entrance. You could just, barely, make out the tall silhouette of your husband as he crouched down against the doormat, unlacing his combat boots.

Sleepily rubbing your eyes, you stood up to greet your lover in the hall. He had yet to notice your figure when you leaned against the wall silently, too busy cursing quietly at his gear and rubbing soot off his cheek to notice your presence until you grabbed him by his broad shoulders with a yawn.

"Babes—let me." You said softly as he tilted his head up to examine your face.

He huffed, "I didn' wake ya, did I?"

You shook your head lightly, caressing his cheek and slipping off his mask from his head before replying. "No, you didn't wake me, you know how I can be. I'd sleep through a tornado if I could," you grinned.

He only hummed, standing up to let you click off his heavy utility belt as he messed with his cuffs that held onto his gauntlets, which he took off and put to the side when he first came in. When he finally popped the release on them, he tossed them on his black duffle bag with his belt, which you had just discarded so that you could help get his top off.

A hero's suit could weigh quite a lot depending on the type of support items and fabric material they need to best utilize their quirks. Unluckily for Katsuki, his quirk relied on a lot of gadgets and materials to withstand his explosive power and collect his sweat—which didn't help make his winter suit any lighter. It needed denser fabric so that he could work up a sweat compared to if he was in his summer suit. It also didn't help that it clung to his upper body and more often than not, Katsuki would come to you for help because of how tightly it stuck to him. He couldn't slip it off most days, especially when he was too drained and worn thin to fight with it by the time he got home. It took you a few tries to figure out how to get it off of him when you first started living together, but you soon got the hang of it the more time flew by.

When you got his arms out of the sleeves, you peeled the button of the top up and over his ashy hair. Making the hero sigh contently as he leaned down, burrowing his face into the side of your neck and clinging onto your waist in a loose hug with naked arms. The heavy fabric dangled in your right hand loosely as you brought your left one up to comb through his soft spikes. Disregarding the fabric with the rest of the gear without moving, you bright your now free hand up and around his neck.

"Missed ya..." He mumbled, breathing in deeply as he rubbed your sides up and down. One hand slipping under your black T-shirt and gliding across your skin—squishing your side playfully and then caressing it softly.

You hummed against him, leaning back slightly to look at him. He huffed, picking his head from your neck to rest his forehead against yours but otherwise keeping his position on you the same.

His jeweled eyes danced across your face as you slowly released your hold on him, trailing a hand down one of his arms and gripping his hand in yours as you stepped away. He trailed after you silently, clad only in his baggy, combat pants that became stirrups a little above the ankle.

Pushing open your bedroom door, you let Katsuki pass in front of you, still holding onto his hand as he turned back to you. You smiled, letting his hand go and hooking your hands in his waistband to slide the pants off. He stumbled a bit, grunting as he caught himself on the bottom of the bed while you worked the pants off of him and onto the floor. You hummed, stepping between his spread legs now that you got all the gear off, leaving Katsuki in only his black boxers.

Leaning down, you pushed him lightly against the bed by his shoulders as he wrapped his arms around your waist. His skin was soft and warm against your bare arms that you tucked under his, palms against his shoulder blades as you hugged him to your chest.

His hot breath fanned softly against your scalp as he shifted the both of you up against the pillows with careful hands. You relaxed into him, listening to his heartbeat against his chest as he settled with you in his arms. The next thing you knew, you were drifting off into sleep once more in the safety of his embrace.

———

A few days went by before you found yourself squished in between Kirishima and Mina in a booth across from Kaminari, Sero, and Jiro at a local Bar. You had gathered the BakuSquad up behind your husband's back so that you could plan your surprise for him. Swearing each of the members to secrecy with your power as the leader's wife with a shit-eating grin you picked up from the explosive blonde.

"So~!" Mina sang, tapping her pointer fingers against the table in excitement. "What's the plan on telling Bakubabe about code Bun?!"

"W-WHAT?!" Kirishima spat, choking on his beer that he'd been nursing for the past five minutes while you waited for everyone to arrive.

Mina was the only person you had told since you found out about a month and a half ago now. It was right after Japan's first snow when you realized that you'd missed your period. That and the compiling symptoms you began to track started to worry you before you finally cracked and vented to Mina. She was the one who calmed you down and helped you go to the local store to buy a couple of tests to take. When they each came out positive after many minutes of pacing back and forth while Mina watched from your bed, you crumpled up against the pink girl, bawling your eyes out for hours. The girl stayed by your side the entire time, rubbing your shoulders and whispering to you that it'd all be okay while Katsuki was out on patrol.

"YOU'RE A—HES A—WHAT THE FUCK!?" Kiminari yelped before being smacked upside the head by Jiro, the two had been together for about a year now. Finally admitting their feelings to each other after many painful years of pinning for one another.

"Idiot! Don't just scream like that!" Jiro lectured, grabbing the blonde by his jacket and yanking him a little.

"Shit—Sorry! But holy crap! Bakubro, as in the guy who is terrible with kids, having a kid! THAT BAKUGO?!" He exclaimed, still not getting that he should probably keep his mouth shut before Jiro smacked him again, this time across the shoulder. "OW!" He whined.

"Serves you right!" Mina huffed, crossing her arms and glaring at the lightning user.

"Man! I can't believe this! This is great!" Kirishima said, wrapping an arm across your shoulders, the weight of it only slightly crushing you against his side. "I'm so proud of you guys! You're both gonna be such manly parents!"

"DUDE, we are talking about BAKUGO here!" Kaminari yelped, waving his hands in the air before being struck in the back of the head, this time by Sero, who noticed your deflated expression at the comment. "FUCK—can you please stop hitting me!"

"Then shut your mouth, you doofus! You're scaring our girl!" Jiro grumbled, shaking her head at her idiot of a boyfriend.

"Shit—right! Sorry, Mama!" He chuckled, nervously rubbing the back of his head in pain.

"It's okay, I really don't mind..." You sighed, looking down at your clasped hands.

"Mama?" Sero guffawed at the absurd nickname.

"What? It's got a nice ring to it, doncha think?" Kaminari laughed, settling an arm on the back of the booth behind Jiros head, but never touching her. Probably too afraid of pissing her off anymore.

"I don't know man, just don't let Bakugo hear you..." Sero sighed, slumping down in his seat—twirling his beer.

"Shoot, you're right! He'd probably slit my throat!" Kaminari laughed, sweat slightly dripping down the side of his face as his eyes glanced around. Most likely paranoid, the ticking time bomb would reveal himself in a cloud of smoke.

"OKAY! Can we please focus here? We need to figure out how our girl is gon tell Bakubabe she's got a bun in the oven!" Mina huffed, slipping her arm under yours and against your lower back with Kirishima's still resting across your shoulders. The two loved you like a little sibling.

"Rightttt...So, anyone got any ideas?" Kaminari hummed, tapping his free hand against his chin.

"Nope." Jiro huffed, popping the P and slumping back against her hyperactive boyfriend, who hadn't changed at all since high school.

"Nada, sorry Senorita..." Sero said, shrugging his shoulders.

"This is gonna be a while...." Mina sighed, flopping down further into her seat beside you.

"Yep." You said, leaning more towards' your pink-haired bestie.

Kiri let out a loose laugh, "Drinks on me guys! I'll go grab a few sodas from the bar, looks like this is gonna take a while!"

You smiled, you could always count on Kiri to lighten the room and break any tension within the group. He'd always been good at it, maybe that's what drew your husband to these people so much. They were all so genuine, they didn't mind handing out their own opinion or leaning on each other when the load got too heavy with a simple joke or laugh. Katsuki had some good friends. You were glad you got the chance to be taken into their circle so easily.

When you all went to UA, you hadn't been in the Hero Course with them, you were the Support. You only met the young heroes because of a project the school tasked the two classes with to further encourage teamwork between the two subverts. The heroes did the dirty work but you provided them with the tools necessary to do the missions and keep from danger themselves.

"I think we should do the colored cake reveal!" Mina said, a wide smile spreading across her pink cheeks.

"Yeah, but doesn't Bakubro hate sweets?" Sero said, tipping his beer slightly against the table with his pointer finger.

Your brows furrowed, finding your nails more interesting than this conversation and letting out a deflating, "Yep."

Mina frowned, patting your head in reassurance. "Okay...well what about putting actual buns in the oven?" She suggested.

"Not bad, but don't you think it'd be kinda cliche?" Jiro said, looking towards the pinkette.

There was a pregnant pause as Kirishima came back, slipping back into his seat next to you. "What's cliche?"

"That colored cake trend, where you bite into a piece and the inside is either blue or pink..." Jiro explained.

"Isn't that more for a gender reveal party?" He said, looking around the table with a small grin.

"I say you just tell him or make a little speech to reveal it." Jiro smiled, "Bakugo's a blunt guy, I don't think he'd care how he was told—finding out he's gonna be a Dad is plenty enough."

"Yeah, but live a little! It's about the memories, Babe!" Kaminari laughed.

"Hm, well what if you made him a scavenger hunt?" Sero said, looking towards you for confirmation.

"It's not a bad idea; I was also thinking about tying a bandana Yuudai," You said, leaning your elbows against the table.

"Oooh! That would be perfect!" Mina smiled.

You smiled back at the girl, subconsciously placing a hand on your stomach; glad that Mina was so excited for you. You and Bakugo were going to be the first couple from the group to have a kid, but you knew it was because your circumstances were different compared to the rest of them. You didn't have to fight or worry about saving lives and you didn't need to dread the thought of never making it back home because unlike them—you were no hero. You had the luxury of working from home while your husband was out fighting tooth and nail for what he believes in. Fighting every day to keep his spot as Number One and keeping those who couldn't help themselves safe. You've been gifted something so incredibly lucky and you didn't think you deserved this chance—this life by your friends, by Katsuki's side.

———

Before you knew it the week had gone by and it was finally the day of the Holiday Party. The warm glow of fairy lights and the soft hum of festive music created a cozy atmosphere, making the cold winter night outside feel worlds away. The room was filled with laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the comforting aroma of food that some of the class brought with them.

Katsuki, as usual, tried to keep to himself, leaning against a wall with his arms crossed, a gruff expression on his face. But you knew better than anyone that he was enjoying himself, even if he refused to admit it. He was surrounded by friends, and people he considered family, and that was something he deeply valued, even if he didn't show it in typical ways that most would.

You glanced around the room, noting how everyone seemed so happy, so relaxed. Mina was chatting animatedly with Kirishima, who was laughing heartily at something she said; the two would be married in a few months. Kaminari was teasing Jiro, who was pretending to be annoyed but she couldn't hide her smile. Sero was helping himself to more snacks, grinning at something Kaminari had just joked about.

It was almost time.

The surprise you had planned was set. You had spent the last few days quietly arranging everything, coordinating with the BakuSquad to ensure the reveal would be perfect. They were all in on it, and now it was just a matter of executing the plan.

"Alright, everyone!" you called out, capturing the attention of the room. "Can I have a moment? There's something I'd like to share."

The chatter died down as all eyes turned to you. Katsuki's expression shifted slightly, curiosity mingled with a hint of suspicion. You smiled at him, feeling your heart race with excitement and nerves.

"I know it's been a crazy year, and we all deserve a break," you began, your voice steady. "But before we wrap up the night, I wanted to do something a little special."

Mina, ever the supportive best friend, nudged you gently. You took a deep breath and continued. "So, I've prepared a little game. It's a scavenger hunt, and I need everyone's help."

There were a few murmurs of interest, and you could see some of the group exchanging glances, clearly trying to figure out what you were up to.

"I'm going to give you the first clue, and from there, you'll need to find the next one. And so on. The final clue will lead to a very special surprise."

You handed the first clue to Mina, who winked at you before reading it aloud. "A place where warmth is found, where friends gather 'round. Look where the fire burns bright, and you'll find the next clue in sight."

Everyone quickly dispersed, eager to find the next clue. You stayed back, watching as they moved around the room, laughing and joking as they searched. Katsuki stayed behind the crew, his arms still crossed, but his gaze was now fixed on you, clearly intrigued. You told Katsuki about each game you'd planned throughout the night, except this one. Katsuki was smart, there was no way he hadn't pieced together that this game would semi-interest him.

As the scavenger hunt continued, the clues led the group around the house, from the fireplace to the Christmas tree, and then to the kitchen. Each step brought them closer to the final reveal. You could feel the anticipation building, and you noticed Katsuki's guarded expression softening as he began to understand that this was more than just a simple game.

Finally, the last clue led them back to the living room, where a small, neatly wrapped box sat under the tree. Kirishima, grinning like a kid on Christmas morning, picked it up and handed it to Bakugo.

"Go on, Bro," he said, his voice filled with excitement. "This one's for you."

Katsuki frowned slightly, but he stepped forward, taking the box from his best friend's hands. His eyes met yours, and for a moment, the rest of the room seemed to fade away.

With everyone watching, he carefully unwrapped the box, revealing a small rattle inside. It had a little explosion symbol embroidered on it. The room went silent as the realization hit him.

He stared at the rattle for a long moment, his mind processing the meaning behind it. Then, slowly, he looked up at you, his eyes wide, his usual tough exterior cracking just a little.

"Is this...?" His voice was soft, almost hesitant.

You nodded, your eyes welling up with tears. "Yeah, Katsuki. You're going to be a dad."

The room erupted into cheers and congratulations, but all you could focus on was the look on Katsuki's face. He was stunned, speechless for once in his life, and you could see the myriad of emotions swirling in his eyes—shock, joy, fear, and overwhelming love.

Without a word, he pulled you into his arms, holding you tight against him as the noise of the celebration surrounded you. His grip was firm, and protective, as if he was afraid to let go.

"I love you," he whispered into your ear, his voice hoarse with emotion. "So damn much."

You smiled, burying your face in his chest as you whispered back, "I love you too, Katsuki."

The warmth of the room and the joy from your friends made the moment a memorable memory as you stood in Katsuki's embrace. The cheers and laughter around you felt distant, like background noise to the intimate world that existed between just the two of you. You felt his heartbeat against your cheek, strong and steady, a comforting rhythm that mirrored your own.

As Katsuki held you, the initial shock began to melt away, replaced by a fierce determination that you knew so well. He pulled back just enough to look at you, his gaze intense but filled with a softness that he reserved only for you.

"We're going to do this right," he said, his voice steady, though you could hear the underlying emotion. "I'll protect you both. Always."

You reached up to cup his cheek, feeling the slight roughness of his skin under your fingers. "I know you will. And we'll do it together."

The rest of the BakuSquad finally swarmed around the two of you, clapping Katsuki on the back and showering you both with congratulations. Even though Katsuki grumbled and pretended to be annoyed by the attention, you could see the small, almost imperceptible smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

Mina was the first to reach you, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "I knew it! You guys are going to be the best parents ever!" She hugged you tightly, then turned to Katsuki with a teasing grin. "And you, Bakubabe, are going to be an amazing dad. Just wait and see."

Katsuki huffed, but there was no real bite in his tone. "Yeah, yeah. Just don't expect me to go soft or anything."

Kirishima, always the supportive best friend, clapped Katsuki on the shoulder. "You've got this, bro. And we'll all be here to help out whenever you need us."

"That's right!" Kaminari chimed in, a mischievous glint in his eye. "I can babysit! I'm great with kids!"

Everyone laughed at that, even Katsuki, though he quickly masked it with a scowl. "You? Babysit? Over my dead body, Dunce Face."

The banter continued, lightening the mood as the group moved to gather around the tree, exchanging gifts and sharing more laughter. But every so often, you'd catch Katsuki glancing your way, his eyes softening when they met yours.

The night carried on with everyone in high spirits. The festive atmosphere was infused with a sense of warmth and love, knowing that a new chapter in your life was about to begin.

As the party started to wind down, and the others began to leave, Katsuki pulled you aside, his expression serious. "Are you okay with all this?" he asked, his voice low, just for you.

You nodded, taking his hand in yours. "More than okay. I'm excited, Katsuki. Scared, but excited."

He squeezed your hand gently. "We're going to be fine. Better than fine." His eyes held a promise, one that you knew he would keep no matter what.

With a final hug from your friends and a promise to keep the news to themselves until you were ready to share it with the world, you and Katsuki finally found a moment of peace. The house was quiet now, the soft glow of the Christmas lights casting a warm, golden hue over everything.

Katsuki wrapped an arm around your shoulders as you both stood by the window, looking out at the snow-covered street. The world outside was calm and serene, a perfect contrast to the whirlwind of emotions you had experienced that night.

"I...I don't know if i'll be a good dad, but i'll try—for you and them." he murmured, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.

You leaned into him, feeling the truth of his words settle in your heart. "You will. I know you will be the best dad in the world. I have no doubts."

And as you stood there, wrapped in each other's warmth, you knew that this was just the beginning of something truly beautiful.
