I'm His Responsibility

Summary:

Isaac and Theo have to deal with the aftermath of their boyfriends being too selfless. Theo and Isaac have a deep conversation about feelings.

Notes:

I've had this for a bit I just totally forgot to post it. I have another one in the works or at least have the ideas for it. I'm so tired though so I'll hopefully get to it soon.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“What the hell was that?!” Theo yelled at his boyfriend while carrying him in his arms. “You could’ve died.”

“Heh. You think you can get rid of me that easily?” Liam responded slightly nodding off due to the blood loss. “I’ll be fine. I’ll heal.” Theo only responded with an exasperated look.

Theo just looked down at the boy in his arms. He knew that he would be fine, but in the heat of the moment he wasn’t so sure. He looked back to see the other werewolf pair having a similar conversation.

Isaac was helping Scott walk by supporting his body. Scott’s arm was covering a rather large gash that was bleeding enough to be concerning. “Scott. I swear to God.” Isaac wasn’t even able to say anything more because there was so much going through his mind. “What were you even thinking?” Isaac kept his voiced level trying to not show too much distress. It wasn’t working as everyone knew how he really felt but none of them brought it up.

“I’m the alpha. I have to protect my pack,” Scott gave a smile at his beta trying to assuage his worries. It was a weak attempt, but it was something.

“Sometimes I swear that I will die from stress rather than getting killed by a hunter,” The chimera said to Isaac without turning around.

“Sometimes I miss France. It was nice there and didn’t have these supernatural problems,” Isaac responded.

“We should go sometimes. Get a break from these two.” Theo said it jokingly, which Isaac let out a chuckle too. The statement however was not taken as well by the other two in the group.

“Hey. You can’t leave me,” Liam said with a small pout on his face. Theo looked down and kissed his forehead as a way to assure him that he wasn’t leaving. Even in blood and sweat Theo sees Liam as the prettiest thing he’s ever seen. He slowly started taking his pain. The black veins appeared slowly and was nothing more than a dull ache to Theo.

“If you keep doing this shit, I might have to,” Theo had an internal smirk waiting for the beta to react. A few moments after he noticed that the boy had fallen asleep in his arms. How Liam could fall asleep like this Theo would never know, but he doesn’t question it anymore.

The other two walked in silence for the most part after Liam fell asleep. Isaac could feel the alpha slowly getting heavier as he also started to fall asleep. Isaac offered to carry him, but he refused. Once Scott was almost tripping over himself trying to walk Isaac just started carrying him.

Isaac walked up to Theo, so they were side by side. “It looks like we just murdered these two and are going to bury their bodies.” Theo laughed at that. A quiet one, but still a laugh. He was tired but wouldn’t be able to fall asleep until these two were in the hospital recovering. No matter what people might think Theo would sacrifice himself for Scott. He thought about it a lot and realized that he would do it for anyone in the pack. It was a weird feeling, but it also made him feel good.

“If we were going to bury their bodies, we were doing it all wrong. There’s wayyy too much evidence on us. Plus, I would’ve chosen a cleaner and faster method,” Theo joked with the other boy.

A moment of silence passed as they continued walking. “Does this ever get easier?” Theo inquired.

“What do you mean?” Isaac responded with curiosity. It was one of the few times that Theo would open up like this.

“I mean this,” he gestures to the two unconscious boys. “Does worrying about people always feel like this? How do you manage this all the time?” Theo felt defeated. He felt powerless about not being able to do anything more for them right now.

“I’m not going to lie to you. It doesn’t get easier. Every day I have to worry about Liam flying off the rails and Scott being so selfless that he gets himself killed.” Isaac thought back to previous times. His voice is a bit flat at the memories. “But I am glad that you are here. You’re good for him. He needs someone like you.” Isaac has never said this out loud. He might be best friends with Theo, but it was awkward to talk to his best friend about his brother who happened to be his best friend’s boyfriend.

“I never thought I would ever fall for someone like Liam. He’s just so pure and good.” Theo was admitting all the things that he would never let out. Theo tried to speak again but hesitated to try to find the right words. “I mean we are polar opposites.”

“You two aren’t that different. Maybe in the way that you show it, but at the core you two care about others. You want to do the right things. You just achieve them differently. I don't think my brother would’ve fallen for you if there weren't at least some redeeming qualities,” The boy jests.

“I thought for the longest time that he only stayed with me because he wanted to keep an eye on me. That I was too dangerous to be let roam around Beacon Hills alone,” Theo admitted. He stared down at the boy assuming the worst in him.

Isaac laughed a bit again. “Oh, I wish you would saw it from my side. He literally wouldn’t stop talking about you. He would have those dreamy eyes about the smallest things. Like ‘Theo’s hand brushed against mine’ or ‘he let me choose the radio today.’ Literally it was like you hung the moon.”

Theo thought about that a bit. Past Theo would’ve thought that the beta was just making this all up to make him feel better, but he learned that Isaac doesn’t lie. He doesn’t sugar coat things and that’s what he likes about him.

“But does he have to do this shit all the time?” Frustration seeps into the chimera’s voice. “Why does he think I need protection all the time?”

Isaac looked over to see the distress in his eyes. “I for one can say you don’t need protection. If anything, he needs protection, but I know that he doesn’t do it to protect you. I mean he does, but not in the way you think. I went ballistic once. Almost beat a guy to death, but Scott had to stop me.”

“Guess that runs in the family,” Theo gave a smirk.

Isaac frowned a bit at the statement but continued. “Scott was the one who stopped me. Called me ‘his responsibility.’”

“Liam said the same to me. Said that I was ‘his responsibility.’ I used to think that it was as if he saw me as a pet that needed to be watched and kept on a leash. Which he technically did.” Isaac gave him a weird look for that. “He had me handcuffed after they released me from hell.”

Isaac’s face grew more concerned. “That really isn’t any better. And I don’t need to hear about my brother’s kinky sex life. Especially not with you.”

With another smirk Theo said “Our sex life is much kinkier.”

“I swear I’m about to drop Scott just to run away from this conversation.”

“What? It’s not that weird,” Theo doesn’t exactly have the same shame that others have about this stuff.

“Talking about my sex life, with my brother bleeding out in your arms, is kind of weird.”

“Stop overreacting. He stopped bleeding a while ago. He’s just napping now.” Theo leaned closer to the boy in his arms. “Liam. Wake up,” he whispered quietly. He made a noise of displeasure and turned over a bit in his arms. “See. He’s fine. Also just kind of dead to the world, but that’s a later problem.”

“Okay…” Isaac just looked at his brother who looked like he was dying ten minutes ago, now looks like he’s taking a cat nap. “It doesn’t change the fact that talking about my sex life with my brother right there makes it not weird.”

“Are you embarrassed?” A grin appears on Theo’s face. “I’ve never seen you so bashful before. I would expect Scott to act more like this. Is it because he tops?”

Isaac looked flabbergasted with the question. “W-what? That isn’t it.”

One of the things Theo learned about reading people is the hidden message behind their words. “That lie was so bad that even Liam could tell. Well, there’s another thing that runs in the family.” Isaac cringes at the new statement. This is something he really didn’t need to know about his brother. “Does he go full alpha when you two do it?” Isaac readjusted his grip on the alpha in question.

Theo stared at his face for a bit, reading his face for an answer. “He does.” Theo smiled learning these new things about his friend. After that statement Theo doesn’t push. Isaac walks nervously expecting Theo to bring it up again, but it never happens.

They finally reach Theo’s truck after what felt like forever. They both put their respective partners into one of the seats in the back and jumped to the front. “I don’t think I've ever seen Scott sleep. It’s weird. He looks so different.”

“Like he isn’t carrying the weight of the world?”

“Yeah,” Theo responded softly. After driving for a few minutes towards the hospital they hear a groan in the back.

“Theooooo.” The pair heard a slurred voice. “Theooooo. I’m hungry.” Of course, the first thing they hear when the boy wakes up is food.

“Go back to sleep,” Theo commanded.

“But I’m hungry,” Theo could see the frown in the rearview mirror. The boy’s eyes were slowly opening, but his face said it all.

“Isaacccc. I’m hungry.” Isaac forgot how much he didn’t like dealing with Liam and food. It was always a headache trying to figure it out.

“Liam go back to sleep or else,” Theo threatened.

“Or else what?” The blue-eyed boy behind him taunted.

“Or else I will pull this truck over and knock you out myself.”

Liam scoffed in his delirious state. “Yeah right.”

With that Theo pulled over and turned off the engine. “I’m not dealing with this shit.” He opened his door clearly intent on committing to his threat. As the door swung open revealing the boy in question who was splayed out looking scared. Without a second thought Theo knocked him out and placed him back in the position he was in before he awoke. After closing the door, he jumped back into the driver’s seat feeling the stare from Isaac on him.

“What the actual hell was that?” Isaac knew that their relationship was built around fighting, but he had never actually seen it in person.

“He’ll be fine," Theo said as he started driving again. Isaac looked back and forth a few more times because just gasping at Theo still unable to comprehend what had just happened. Theo just smiled a wicked grin trying to stifle a laugh while not looking at the other werewolf.
