Work Text:

“Shin I can’t do this!”

“Lena… calm down…”

“No, you don’t get it I genuinely can’t I-I…”

“Ah…”

It was a regular Monday in a regular week in Sankt Jeder. Sun rays were making their way through the cloudy early-autumn sky, making it just warm enough to take a stroll through the half-empty streets but also making it comfortable enough to drive around the city without straining one’s eyes.

And so, two lovers found themselves on the outskirts of it doing just that. Well, they tried to do exactly that.

“Let’s start over from the beginning, how about that?” Shin asked in hopes of calming his girlfriend down, seeing how panicked she’d gotten.

“No… Shin, I mean it when I say I can’t do it it’s-it’s too much.” said Lena, feeling the tears welling in her eyes, which also happened to embarrass her to the point she could feel her neck reddening.

It’s literally just driving. Just. Driving. Why am I struggling so much. It’s too much.

Suddenly, the door next to the passenger seat opened and Shin exited, closing them softly behind him. He was making his way around the car towards her door, opened it and glared at her.

“…?”

“Lena, get out.”

“Wha- Shin, what?”

“Let me help you out a little.”

Shin could barely suppress the grin that was slowly forming on his face. If Lena doesn’t want to listen, he’ll have to help her in a more… convenient way.

Stepping out of the car, Lena cast him a dubious glance, but before she could even as much as step away from the door, she was suddenly pulled into someone’s lap.

“SHIN!”

To say Lena was as red as a lycoris flower would’ve been an understatement, but her red beet, puffed up cheeks and the pout adorning her face were oh, so worth it. In Shin’s opinion, at least.

“What… what are you doing!”

“… Teaching you how to drive?”

“Uhm, well how exactly… oh.”

Having said that, Lena came to a very sudden realization. He was planning on quite literally driving with her. With her in his lap and his hands on hers.

Oh indeed, thought Shin upon seeing the wheels turning in his girlfriend’s head. He was very proud of himself for coming up with the idea, his smirking face confirming as much.

She’s so adorable when flustered.

“While you are an extremely quick learner and you brain processes information scarily quickly, we both know you are not quite skilled when it comes to… practicalities.”

“WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?”

Oh, she took great offense to that because sure, she might not be the greatest, but she wasn’t a lost cause!

“Remember your cooking attempts? Or you trying to learn how to ride a bicycle?”

Well… mostly she wasn’t a lost cause.

“… You might have a point there.” sighed Lena.

As much as she hated to admit it, Shin was right. While she could understand and comprehend what needed to be done and how to execute it in theory, when it came to putting that knowledge to use in real life situations… Let’s just say that wasn’t Lena’s strongest pursuit. Her cooking was below average at best, and she could barely ride a bike by herself, if you could even call that riding, that is. In her defense, with all the paperwork waiting to be signed and all the responsibilities that came with being a Colonel, Lena hadn’t exactly had time to practice anything these days.

“Now then, one step at a time. Right?”

Lena pondered on a question for a moment. It was one step at a time, and with Shin being there if anything went south, she realized that just because she was scared, didn’t mean she wasn’t safe. With this new-found confidence, she mustered up some courage to resolve both her own doubts and fears.

“Right.”

“You ready?” asked Shin, making himself as comfortable as he could, hoping it would help Lena relax too. If she wanted to learn how to drive, he would be there with her every step of the way. No matter what. A lazy smile graced his lips as he came to understand he would grant her every wish, no matter what. Everything for her.

“Yeah… I think I actually am.” answered Lena, returning his smile through the rear-view mirror with one of her own.

With you, I could take on the world.
