Work Text:

It was late into the night when Gojo Satoru finally trudged back to the Jujutsu High campus, the exhaustion from the mission weighing heavily on his shoulders.

The cool night air did little to refresh his tired senses, and as he neared the dorms, he caught sight of a familiar figure sitting alone on the roof. Iori Utahime stood out against the dark sky.

Even from a distance, her presence was unmistakable. A smirk tugged at the corners of Gojo’s lips as he approached the roof access door, curiosity piqued by her unusual late-night vigil.

He climbed the stairs with practiced ease, the slight creak of the steps betraying his movements. When he emerged onto the roof, Utahime’s head turned, her eyes narrowing at the sight of him.

“Hey, what are you doing up here?” Gojo called out, trying to keep his voice light and teasing. “Didn’t you know there’s a perfectly good bed inside?”

Utahime rolled her eyes, a slight blush coloring her cheeks.

Was she embarrassed about being found?

“I’m waiting for the meteor shower," she explained, the exasperation clear in her voice. "I wanted a good view.”

Gojo laughed, finding her excitement both amusing and endearing.

“A meteor shower? Really? That’s what’s keeping you awake? I didn’t take you for such a romantic.”

Her expression turned from playful irritation to one of determined annoyance.

“It’s not just about the meteor shower. I find it calming.”

Gojo grinned, feeling a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Alright, alright, I apologize for poking fun. Mind if I join you?”

Utahime hesitated, her annoyance still evident. “You can stay, but don’t expect me to entertain you.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it,” Gojo replied smoothly as he settled down beside her.

He looked up at the sky, the stars beginning to twinkle as the darkness of night unfolded.

They waited in silence for a while, and Gojo found himself glancing sideways at Utahime. Her usual composure was replaced with an almost childlike eagerness as she stared up at the sky. It was a side of her he rarely saw, and it intrigued him.

“So, how’s being a student treating you?” Utahime asked after a moment, her voice soft.

“It’s... Well, it's complicated." Gojo chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Balancing missions, training, and everything else can be overwhelming sometimes. Sometimes I wonder if it’s all worth it.”

“I suppose it’s hard when you have so many responsibilities." Utahime shifted slightly, a hint of awkwardness in her posture. "But you’re doing well, right?”

He looked at her, noticing the genuine concern in her eyes.

“Yeah, I guess I am." Gojo shrugged. "Thanks for asking.”

They lapsed into another stretch of silence, but this one was more comfortable, filled with an unspoken understanding.

As the first streaks of the meteor shower began to light up the sky, Utahime’s face lit up with awe. Her eyes widened as she followed the trails of light across the dark canvas above. It was a beautiful sight, but it was her reaction that made it even more captivating to Gojo.

He watched her, a soft smile on his lips. For all his bravado and teasing, seeing Utahime so enchanted was a rare sight. It made the exhaustion from his mission seem a little less significant.

The meteors continued to streak across the sky, and Gojo stayed beside Utahime, content to watch the display and the quiet happiness it brought her. The night was peaceful, and for once, the weight of his responsibilities seemed to lift, if only for a little while.

Gojo continued to watch her with an intensity he rarely allowed himself, his usual teasing demeanor giving way to a more contemplative silence.

Her eyes sparkled with a kind of pure, unfiltered joy that was both captivating and foreign to him.

The excitement in her gaze, the way her mouth curved into a genuine smile, and the soft gasp she emitted with each new meteor—it all spoke of a deep appreciation for something simple yet profoundly beautiful. It was a stark contrast to the seriousness and constant strain of his own life.

Gojo’s mind wandered back to his own experiences.

The thrill of battle, the adrenaline of missions, and the weight of his responsibilities often consumed him. His life had been a whirlwind of chaos and duty, leaving little room for moments of quiet reflection.

The meteors that streaked across the sky were fleeting, but for Utahime, they seemed to hold a kind of magic that he found himself envying.

He remembered the times he’d looked up at the stars, but they had always been just background noise, a part of the scenery rather than a source of solace.

Could I ever find joy in something as simple as a meteor shower?

Could I allow myself to be moved by the beauty of such moments?

He glanced at Utahime again, noting the serenity that seemed to envelop her. It was as if the universe had paused just for her, and she was fully present, savoring every fleeting moment of the celestial display.

Gojo wondered if he could ever let go of his burdens and find such unadulterated happiness in the little things.

As he moved his gaze from Utahime to the night sky and back again, a thought struck him. Maybe it wasn’t about finding joy in the same things Utahime did, but rather allowing himself to appreciate the simplicity of moments like these. Maybe he didn’t have to be constantly caught up in the whirlwind of his own existence.

Perhaps there was a place for quiet moments of contentment, even for someone like him. The night was filled with a sense of peace that Gojo hadn’t realized he was missing.

As he watched the meteors fall—their tails leaving streaks of light across the sky—he couldn’t help but feel a renewed sense of hope. Perhaps there was room in his life for more of these quiet, beautiful moments—moments that he could learn to cherish just as much as Utahime did.

He didn't know what those moments would be for him. But, for now, he was content to simply be here with her, sharing this fleeting spectacle.

Utahime’s happiness was contagious, and though he might not fully grasp the depth of her joy, he could certainly appreciate the tranquility it brought him.

The meteor shower continued its dance across the sky, and Gojo allowed himself to be caught in the beauty of the moment, if only for a short while.

As the meteor shower drew to a close, Utahime turned to Gojo with a soft smile.

“It’s getting late. I should get going,” she said, her voice tinged with a hint of reluctance. "You should head to bed, too. You've got school tomorrow."

Gojo rolled his eyes and stood up, stretching slightly as he tried to shake off the last remnants of exhaustion.

“Thanks for letting me join you,” he said. “It was nice to see you so... Happy.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed it." Utahime didn't look at him. Her cheeks colored faintly, and she gave a small nod. "Let’s get you back to your dorm before you fall asleep on the roof.”

They descended the stairs together, the quiet night air carrying the remnants of their earlier conversation. When they reached Gojo’s dorm, Utahime paused, looking at him with a mix of kindness and concern.

“Try to get some rest,” she advised. “You’ve had a long day.”

“Will do,” Gojo replied, giving her a tired but appreciative smile. “Thanks again, Utahime.”

She nodded, and with a final, soft smile, she turned to leave.

Gojo watched her walk away, her figure gradually fading into the darkness. As she disappeared from view, Gojo continued to linger at the doorway, his mind swirling with thoughts.

He gazed out the window. The night sky, now devoid of meteors, seemed unusually still, as if holding its breath. The serenity of the evening had left an imprint on him, making him ponder the nature of his own experiences.

He leaned against the doorframe, glancing at the spot where Utahime had been.

The simple act of sharing that moment with her had stirred something within him. Gojo had always been caught up in the whirlwind of his duties, his life a constant flurry of missions and responsibilities. But tonight, he’d glimpsed a different kind of existence—a life where simple moments could bring profound joy.

He thought about Utahime’s genuine delight as she watched the meteors, the way her eyes had lit up with wonder. It was a stark reminder of the things he had lost sight of in his relentless pursuit of strength and duty.

Could I also find joy in these simple, fleeting moments?

Could I learn to appreciate them as Utahime did?

As he walked into his dorm room, Gojo felt a subtle shift within himself. The weight of his responsibilities was still there, but the night had given him a glimpse of a different perspective.

Maybe, just maybe, there was space in his life for more than just the endless cycle of duty and combat.

He settled onto his bed, staring up at the ceiling. The memory of Utahime’s smile lingered, a comforting reminder that even amidst the chaos, there could be moments of peace and happiness. The meteors had been a fleeting spectacle, but the quiet contemplation they sparked would linger far longer.

And so, as the night wore on, Gojo found a small but significant sense of contentment, knowing that there was more to life than the constant struggle—there were moments of beauty to be cherished, if only he was willing to see them.

As he drifted into sleep, Gojo couldn’t help but think that perhaps he would try to embrace these small joys more often.

Notes:

I hope that you enjoyed this one shot of GojoHime. I didn't want to write anything romantic given their ages at this point in their lives—Gojo was still in high school, while Utahime had already graduated—but I still wanted them to have cute interactions with one another. 🖤🤍
