“Maybe I’m at the wrong station,” Tommy says while chuckling, not in shock, just at how big of a lie it is that he wouldn’t be able to afford a loft like this. He successfully keeps the secret from Evan for almost 2 weeks, the first time Evan lets Tommy drive them to his house.
“Hey, baby,” Evan said as soon as Tommy answered the phone, clearly wanting to ask him something but too scared to go through with it.
“What is it, my love?” Tommy asked while balancing his phone between his shoulder and cheek, a skill he’d mastered after years of accidental practice.
“I was wondering if we could hang out at your house today,” Evan said, and a couple of hours later Tommy pulled up outside of Buck’s apartment complex where Evan was anxiously waiting. Tommy could tell that Evan spent most of the 2-hour drive back to Tommy’s place in Brentwood confused at the length of the drive. It’s now been a month since that day and Evan is still the only person in the 118 that knows how much money Tommy has.
“It’s not like I don’t like Tommy, it’s just that I don’t really think that he can provide for you like you deserve, Buck,” Eddie says, remembering the run-down house that he saw when Tommy had fixed his truck. Eddie didn’t know that Tommy’s only working car lift was at his old home, which is the place that Eddie had seen. Buck chuckles at Eddie’s statement, being the only person there who knows that Ravi is playing Tommy’s song.
“Trust me, man, Tommy provides for me just fine. Ravi, can you play that song again from the beginning?” Buck says, not knowing if he really just heard Tommy mention that he has a kid in a song. When Buck hears the mention again he starts spiraling about why he didn’t know about that.
“You okay, Buck?” Hen says, bringing Buck out of his head and back into reality.
“I’m good, just can’t wait for this last hour to go by, I wanna go to Tommy’s place,” Buck says, only saying half of the truth. When Buck arrives at Tommy’s house Buck’s made up his mind and decides that he’ll ask Tommy about it.
“Babe, why didn’t you tell me that you have a son?” Buck says as soon as he lays eyes on Tommy, making Tommy get up off the couch.
“I didn’t know how you would react to me being a single father for a 5-year-old, seeing how angry you are right now lets me know that I made the right decision,” Tommy says, letting himself cry just a little while sitting back down on his couch and putting his head in his hands.
“Babe I’m not angry about you having a son, I’m angry because I didn’t know.” Buck sits down next to Tommy and rubs his back gently. Tommy lays his head on Evan’s shoulder and wipes his tears on Evan’s shoulder, feeling comfortable in Evan’s arms.
“Can I meet him sometime?” Evan says, catching Tommy off guard because he doesn’t expect the question but he still smiles at the image of Evan and Jude getting along.
“When does your shift end tomorrow?” Tommy says, knowing that Nic is supposed to pick Jude up from school and drop him off at Tommy’s house tomorrow afternoon.
“Around 5. Why?” Buck says while looking down at Tommy who slowly sits up straight again and goes back to counting how much money he earned from a recent concert, which, from what Buck sees, is a lot.
“You’ll find out. Come right over here as soon your shift ends, okay?” Tommy says while pausing what he’s doing and looking over his shoulder at Evan.
“I know this statement is odd and off-topic, but I just realized that you’re kind of like my sugar daddy,” Evan says, making Tommy laugh at the sudden realization like it hasn’t been obvious for months. Tommy has always been the one to pay for all of their dates and a lot of Evan’s shopping, just like a sugar daddy.
“How is that realization just now hitting you? I’ve been your sugar daddy since you found out how much money I make. It can change though if the prospect of that makes you uncomfortable, Evan.” Tommy says, making Buck smile at how tentative Tommy is about how Buck feels about things. Buck lets himself think about letting Tommy take care of Buck in every way, and he finds himself blushing uncontrollably.
“I wasn’t pointing it out because the thought of it makes me uncomfortable, I mentioned it because I wanted to know if you would be alright with actually being my sugar daddy,” Buck says before giggling at the ‘are you kidding me’ look that Tommy is giving him.
“I wouldn’t have treated you like my sugar baby for 5 ½ months if I didn’t want to be your sugar daddy, Evan,” Tommy says while looking back at his headache-inducing math that is sitting on his coffee table half-finished. While focusing on the calculations again (and the reminder of why he got an F in math in school) Tommy placed a hand on Buck’s thigh.
“I suppose you’re right. What are you trying to figure out?” Buck asks while looking over Tommy’s shoulder to see if Buck can help Tommy with it. Buck adjusts himself to be almost sitting directly behind Tommy so Buck can properly help Tommy without making either of them uncomfortable in the process.
“I’m trying to find out how much I made from a concert last week, and I’m reminding myself why I dropped out of college and flunked math every year in school. My head hurts.” Buck silently massages Tommy’s brainstem to relieve the pain in his head at least a little just for Tommy to almost throw his head back from the relief.
“Why don’t I help you find it out, baby? I happened to like math in school.” Buck says while wrapping his arms around Tommy’s broad shoulders.
