Tohru’s Fever

Summary:

Kyo took off his shoes, the house seemed empty. He went up when he heard a noise. Apparently, he was not alone in the house. Someone was coughing. He headed towards Tohru’s bedroom. The door was open. She was putting away the washing and she coughed again.

Notes:

My Sicktember 2024 contribution for the prompt : “You’re not fine, you’re throwing up/coughing up a lung”.

I’m sorry for the mistakes, English is not my native language. I hope you like it.

Work Text:

Kyo entered the house. He had spent the day at Kazuma’s dojo. He was eager to take a shower and rest. He had left early in the morning, Tohru, Yuki and Shigure were still sleeping. He knew that Tohru had spent the day with Uo and Hana, Yuki had a meeting with the student council, as for Shigure, God only knows what he had done with his day.

Kyo took off his shoes, the house seemed empty. He must have been the first to come home. He went up when he heard a noise. Apparently, he was not alone in the house. When he arrived at the top of the stairs, a new noise was heard. Someone was coughing. He headed towards Tohru’s bedroom. The door was open. She was putting away the washing and she coughed again. Kyo frowned.

“Tohru ?”

She jumped, not having heard him come in.

“Kyo-kun ! Have you been home long ?”

He looked at her worriedly. Her cheeks were red, her eyes shining. And despite her smile, he could see that she had a fever.

“Are you okay ?” he asked.

She nodded, still smiling.

“I’m fine.”

She coughed once again. An uncontrollable cough that she could not stop. Kyo panicked. How could she say she was okay ?

“You’re not fine,” he said. “You’re coughing up a lung.”

“I’m sorry,” Tohru said when her cough had eased.

“Why are you apologizing ? It’s not your fault you’re sick.”

That was Tohru he thought. She had to apologize for something she was not responsible for. She really was not feeling well. Her eyes were half-closed and she was leaning forward. She was leaning more and more and if he did not do something, she would fall on the floor. He caught her by the arms, being careful not to let her fall on him. He did not want to turn into a cat when she needed him. He made her sit on the bed.

“Your day is over for today,” he said. “Get some rest. I’ll make you something to eat.”

“Thank you Kyo-kun.”

He left the bedroom and went to the kitchen to make her some broth. It was what Kazuma used to cook for him when he was sick. He prepared a tray, poured the broth into a bowl and went up to the bedroom room. Tohru had laid down in her bed. She had put on her pajamas and she was sleeping soundly. Kyo put the tray on the desk and sat down on the chair he had placed next to the bed. He would wait a few moments to make sure she was okay. He put his head in his hands. He was exhausted from his training, but for now, all that mattered was that Tohru was okay.

Tohru woke up slowly. Night had fallen. The curtains had not been drawn and the moon was lighting up the room. Sleeping had done her good. She turned her head and saw Kyo. He was sitting on the desk chair he had placed next to her bed. His head and arms were resting on the edges of the bed. This position must not have been comfortable. However, he was sleeping soundly. Tohru gently brought her hand closer to his, but she did not dare to touch it. Kyo had stayed with her. He had watched over her. A gentle warmth filled her heart. She was happy. Tiredness seized her. She closed her eyes and fell asleep with a huge smile on her lips.
