Really, What Did You Expect?

Summary:

What if the moon revolution succeed?

This was inspired (or practically stolen) by "What did you expect?" by kysantry. I got full permission to rewrite this concept, and here's my go at it.

Notes:

That's the link to the original fic, by kysantry go check it out if you haven't already.

Warning ahead of time, I did a little bit of plagiarism, but it was with full consent of the original creator. This also include directly and stealing words and trying somewhat still the writing style.

Also also, I did not be re-read this, it's late at night where I am and I personally just don't have the motivation so the mistake is a mistake.

Chapter 1: Revolution failed

Chapter Text

The moon revolution, you know that right? How emotions and unintentionally cruelty built up over the years finally exploded in such a violent way, with just a push of five words. “Moon should know their place,” you remember that right?

Little did anyone realize how much damage those little words helped cause. The planets who got hurt, the earthling's who were gonna get killed, and don't get me started on the (in)famous Earth trying to fling himself in the sun.

Many planets and moons had made some shitty decisions during that time. Some were too blinded by their hurt and pain and we're following orders, never thinking of the consequences of their actions. Others, made the orders, convinced others that what they were doing were right, but in the end, still thinking about the better interest of others. Then there were those who simply didn't deserve anything that came to them, or tried their best to renew past mistakes, realizing the damage they did almost too late.

But that doesn't matter right? While there still were issues, it still worked out for the most part in the end. Earth wasn't hit by an asteroid, his earthlings survived, and for the most part, moons and planets and dwarf planets left peacefully, with not much of a fuss.

.

.

.

Well, what if I told you there was a universe where the moon revolution didn't end so nicely. Where all it took was a tiny mistake. One asteroid to slip through. And everything as we knew it was over.

Houston had a grin on his face as he was informed that the nuke was fired at the asteroid. He looked at the screen in front of him, waiting for a sign, or something to tell him the asteroid was dealt with, but instead he got nothing. He reached out and tapped the screen multiple times, in an attempt to get it to “work,” before retracting his hand and simply brushing it off thinking, It's probably just an error.

He reaches up to his head, to hang up the call and take off his ear piece when he suddenly hears yelling on the other side that makes him stop right in his tracks, the blood practically draining from his body, his face becoming pale.

Ain't it funny?

“What do you MEAN, ‘The nuke MISSED!?’” There's a slam against the table, as a voice that can be interpreted as ROTSAR, yells.

“S-sir, we don't know exactly what happened, b-but it looks like there was an-an e-error in the numbers inputted, s-sir.” A more muffled voice sounds in the ear piece, but anyone could hear how terrified they sounded.

Something as simple as a small error, a miscommunication in numbers, a slight change from what we had…

“You idiots! Do you realize what you have done?” There's silence before a sigh and a clacking of shoes. Silence once more before the press of a loud button can be heard. “This is an emergency announcement, I apologize for this distribution but this will probably be the last one you'll ever get.” ROTSAR takes a deep breath. “There are less than 60 seconds before an asteroid is set to hit the Earth. I repeat, 60 seconds before everything you know is over. Contact loved ones, enjoy your last moments. It’s been a good run.” And the voice cuts off.

Can cause so much panic and chaos?

Houston, Astrowife, Astroson, and the rest of the world were in complete shock of what they had just heard. And it only took a few seconds for people to recover from that shock and go full on panic mode.

Some were screaming and in tears, praying this wasn't the actual end for them, praying for some sort of miracle to come and save them. Others tried to go as fast as they could to say their last goodbyes to everyone, hugging each other as they cried on the ground, trying to be happy with each other in their last moments.

The more ignorant kind of people simply ignored it, taking it as a trick or some sort of conspiracy theory and continued on with their say like nothing happened. And there were so many other reactions to this news. Regardless of people's sadness, ignorance, begging, outrage, ect, that wouldn't change what was going to happen in the end.

BOOM!

Could be the end of the world as we know it?

The impact was hardly noticeable to anyone around them. Moons kept throwing asteroids, Luna, Callisto, IO, Phobos and Demos continued to ‘protect’ Earth (Though it was far too late.) and Titan and Ganymede kept hurling asteroids at one another.

But Earth felt it all. Even though it was just a small asteroid, for him it was wave of agony that was rippling all over Earth's surface. And as the shock hit Earth, his pain only ten-folded and began to engulf all his senses. He hasn't felt this since the dinosaurs.

He could feel all their suffering. Their pain, their agony. They- They w-were–

The asteroids stopped coming towards him. He could feel the ash cloud begin to bloom and everything started to feel numb.

H-he… His Earthlings—

He thinks he hears cheers and yells. They were happy? He didn't know. Everything felt blurred, distant. He thinks someone is in front of him, calling him. It felt so close yet far away? He didn't care.

His…H-his Children—

He could feel the tears begin to pool in his eyes. He couldn't see. It felt hard to breathe. He… He-he couldn't– he couldn't breathe—!

His earthling's were dying.

A wail ripped out, filling the ‘silence’ of space. Earth had no time to register the sound coming from him before tears were streaming down his face at full force, his sobs filling the air as his celestial form moved and jerked uncontrollably.

He squeezed his eyes shut as the tears continued to roll down his surface, trying to do something, ANYTHING, to get his mind off it. Off the screams. The screams were so loud. Each and every earthling crying out in panic and angoy in their last seconds. Earth heard and felt them all. How could he not? He nurtured and raised them for so many years, doing something that no other planet in his solar system has done. He had created life.

And yet he was practically useless to save them. They were dying and he couldn't do anything.

To most of the other moons, they were practically clueless as to why Earth was reacting like this. It was a small asteroid that hit him, they assumed, so why was he reacting like he was dying? Even Luna, the closest moon to Earth, watched as Earth sobbed in agony. He knew why, he watched the earthlings grow too, but he didn't KNOW why. Only Earth truly understood.

Earth had not only seen, but he FELT the earthlings grow and get smarter and more powerful throughout their years. Many times he felt and saw them divided by conflicts, but he also saw many of them rise from the ashes and work together to solve a problem. Every struggle, every triumph, every smile, every tear, every loss and every victory, he felt, and he understood it on a deeper level that even they didn't understand themselves.

Sometimes they mistreated him by polluting his surface, or sometimes they’d turn on each other and bomb each other as if they weren’t all life, including him, but he’d forgiven them every time. He loved them and each time tried to understand their reasons behind things. While some were on a deeper level and others just plain stupid, he couldn't care less. They were his and he was theirs. And he loved them unconditionally.

Because that's what parents do right? Love their children, no matter what until the very end.

And now it was the very end. The last moments his children had before they were gone.

He slowly opened his eyes, the shaking and sobbing began to cease, and he looked up to the moons of the revolution, Ganymede and Europa standing right up front. They were originally surprised by Earth's outburst but quickly regained his composure with a smirk on their faces. Earth moved up, using his gravity to push a startled and worried Luna off to the side, IO and Callisto backing up willingly, Titan pulling up next to them. The tears on his his face on seemed to get harder as he looked at them and asked one single question,

“Why…?”

If the moons weren't already confused by Earth's sudden outburst of emotions, they certainly were dumb founded by his unexpected question. But then again, what did they really expect? Even Ganymede and Europa remained quiet, their smirks fading as confusion and a sense of being dumb founded replaced them instead.

Earth looked desperate as the tears continued to fall, awaiting some sort of answer. He takes a shaky breath, and asks again. “Why…? Why did you have to do this?” He looked around, as he got no answer again, feeling his anger begin to boil. “What was this supposed to achieve!?”

At this, some shrunk back in fear and regret, as they didn't even really know why they did this. When they took a moment to think back at it, all Earth really did was say was words, and he had never met them before so he wasn't the reason for their anger. And yet they let it out on him regardless.

Others growled at his words in defiance, taking this as another arrogant planet move. He should know what he did, in their opinion. He should have known what the revolution was meant to achieve, he should have known what he did! But should he really have known when he did nothing to you at all?

“I already apologized! So, why!?” Earth's voice started to get horse and his shaking started again, but he didn't care. “Why did you have to take it out on him!” As his desperation and anger levels rose, so did his voice.

He moves closer to Ganymede and Europa, practically hovering over them. “They. Had. Nothing. To. Do. With. This. So why!” Earth his tears only got harder and he wasn't asking anymore. He was demanding. “Why couldn’t you leave them out of it! Why did you have to punish them for what I did!”

A few beats of silence filled the space around them. Shaking with rage, sadness and desperation, Earth breaths and tears grew heavier by the minute. These were the moons that murdered his life, his earthlings, his children, in cold blood when they had done absolutely nothing to them. And they had the NERVE to speak of planets treatment towards them, yet they kill a bunch of helpless people and creatures! It was a mockery to his whole revolution and his earthlings. His eyes narrowed, face burning with fury about to boil over, his tears flow slowing down.

Europa was the first to speak, regaining her bearings after Earth’s yelling and emotional outburst. She moved closer and stared him down right in his eyes, trying to stay calm and bold, but fear was hidden in her expression. “This is our ONLY chance for respect.” Some confidently nodded at Europa’s words. Other moons hesitantly moved back up and tried to put on a confidence demor, but they couldn't hide what they were really feeling inside.“We did what we had to, your earthlings were in our wa–.”

Boom!

It was sudden, completely random even. But Earth had grabbed the nearest asteroid, which was pretty big in size, and hurled it with all his might right at Europa's surface. No one saw it coming, but what they did see was Europa being flung back into more asteroids, a new crater to be gifted on her face.

Earth panted with anger and exertion, eyebrows furrowed with barely-concealed hatred. Specks of debris flew off from the crater that was made. The snaps his direction towards Ganymede. “And YOU!” He is quick to grab another asteroid, and before Ganymede could even process what was happening, Earth threw it with the same force, if not more, than when he threw it at Europa.

“Their name doesn't belong in any of your mouths! They were NEVER in your way! You just made the effort to put them there.” Earth shot Ganymede and Europa who were still recovering from the asteroid, a gaze that was as piercing and cold as an icicle cutting skin. “Be grateful I won't punish you more.” He quickly darted his eyes up making sure all those moons saw his gaze so they would cower in fear at his stare. “All of you!”

Earth goes silent for a while, his breathing loud, heavy and shaky. “I- shit!” Earth yells out and pauses, his breath becoming more shallow and slowed down. “I-I… I can't do this right now.” The anger the earth had was still there, but right now it has extremely faded. Sadness pulled back in at the main spot and he span around zooming out of the asteroid belt.

“Earth!” Luna calls out but Earth can't even pay him the time of day right now. Luna watches as Earth fades from his view before turning around and looking back at all the moons, disappointed and saddened. “Really. Tell me. What did you expect, what did you really expect, murdering billions of lives?”

“You talk about how the planets mock you for size, and mistreat you for it, but you're no better considering you just killed billions earthlings so many times smaller than you.” Luna sighs and closes his eyes. “You guys became the exact things you were trying to stop and I warned you. Now mark my words, you will regret it.” Luna opens his eyes and takes one last hard stare at them before spinning around, and following the trail of moved asteroids Earth left behind.

And at the end of this part, Luna was right. What did they really expect? Murdering innocent people who did nothing to them. Murdering so many children who have yet to become their full potential. Leaving a poor parent, forever to suffer at another loss of their kids.

And now, a lesson was learned too late. Revolutions don't always succeed in the way you want them too.

Chapter 2: The first few steps to recovery.

Summary:

Basically the chapter title.

More Earth and Luna centric, with Mars, Mercury, and Venus making their appearance.

Actual serious warnings: Talk of Suicide, Hallucinations, Self hate, Unhealthy coping mechanisms(?), Slow-recovery.

Notes:

Not much to say here, I just like having notes for no reason. Oh yeah! I didn't reread this. And it's 4,962 words. And I'm not sure if I kept on Canon or not! And I suck at recovery! And sometimes I lack the ability to write! And it's 2 am where I am!

Oh.😐

That was something. 🫠

Chapter Text

“Did you guys hear that?” Mercury nervously approaches that asteroid belt, Venus and Mars tailing right behind him. His hands are held close to chest, as he fidgets with them a bit.

“You mean that loud ass scream that sounded like Earth?” Venus sarcastically says as he pulls up to Mercury’s side, traveling much slower that he usually would, considering he was injured. “Of course we heard that pipsqueak!” He looks over to his side at Mercury as he talks, but it's not long before his attention goes back to the asteroid belt, anxiety creeping all over his surface, but he was trying to do his best not to show it.

“Yeah, it was terrifying.” Mars is the last person to pull up next to Mercury, but unlike Venus, he didn’t bother hiding how worried and scared he was. “I hope Earth is doing all right. We all know how much he cares about his earthlings. He’d hate to… lose them…” Mars grimaces at the thought, and attempts to take his attention off the asteroid belt.

“C’mon, that wouldn't happen. Earth has changed! I believe he could fix this.” Mercury attempts to say this while being confident and bold but that loud wail keeps playing out in his head, making his words come out more uncertain and scared. He takes a gulp of air before also directing his attention down, to avoid the thoughts.

No one makes another comment to Mercury’s word, and the trio go completely silent once again. This lasts for a while, the complete and utter silence filling space and only making the situation more tense. Venus was the only one looking directly at the asteroid belt, but don't be fooled, his nerves were only getting worse.

Another beat of silence goes by and Venus couldn't take it anymore. He ripped his head and looked at Mercury then Mars, registering the expression both of them had on their faces. He looks back up towards the asteroid belt, his expression hardening and he begins to move forward, shouting, “Come on! I ain’t waiting any longer!”

Mars and Mercury look at Venus wide eyed as he goes off towards the asteroid belt despite him already being injured. It takes only a few seconds before Mars is attempting to zoom right behind him, his feeling of distress for his ‘best friend’ taking over any want of rational thinking.

Mercury was the last person to follow behind him, the only planet here trying to think before they acted. “W-wait!” No one bothers to stop. “You two are still injured and going in there like how you are now without a plan, is a guaranteed repeat for the last time!” Mercury zooms in front of the two, stopping both of them hot in their tracks.

“Listen Pipsqueak, we already wasted enough time as is! And we can’t bother to–” Venus was quick to start yelling at Mercury the second he pulled up in front of him. But as quick as he started he stopped when he thought he saw something moving in the asteroid belt. Mercury was dumbfounded when Venus suddenly stopped shouting at him but Venus paid him no mind. Venus squints in an attempt to discover what exactly that mysterious thing was but the closer he looked, he noticed that whatever it was, was heading towards them, and pretty quickly at that too. His eyes go wide and he shouts, “Move!”

Mercury doesn’t realize the immediate danger he was in however and doesn’t budge from the spot he was in. He crosses his hands over his chest trying to seem tough, taking Venus’s warning as a rude attempt to force him to get out of their way. “No, I will not move. I’m not letting two injured planets to recklessly he–” Venus rolls his eyes at Mercury's ranting and uses his gravity to grab him, which in turn shuts Mercury up as he felt a pressure start to squeeze his entire body. “Hey! What are you- let go of me Venus!”

Venus disregards Mercury’s objection and throws him out of the way. Before narrowly dodging the circular object the zooms past him, Mars was luckily already out of the way. But as if it was a scene playing out in slow-mo, Venus watched in surprise as that object turned out to be Earth, looking much different from when he entered that belt. Instead of his fluffy soft clouds, most of his atmosphere was filled with dark black clouds of ash and smoke, making a bunch of areas on his surface impossible to see. But what Venus could see was his face, his eyes were completely squeezed shut, tears making the trek down his surface and he looked so broken, so hurt.

Then in a flash, it's like time is sped up once again and Earth is long gone. Venus slowly blinked in shock and when he looked down to Mercury, he could tell he felt the same. “Is that…?” Mercury reluctantly spoke up, his voice soft, quiet and disturbed.

Venus takes a deep breath, not even bothering to turn around and get another glance at Earth. He already knows what happened, just from his short examination all the signs were clear, it had already happened before. He tries to keep his voice and expressions as calm as possible, as he answers Mercury’s question without even bothering looking at him. “Yeah. That’s Earth.”

“He has so much smoke and dust in his atmosphere, does that mean he…” Mars had also spun around by now, and got a good look at Earth who was just shaking in his orbit facing the sun. It took him less than a second to realize what had happened. The black clouds had been enough of a sign. Being Earth’s best friend for so many years, he saw what all the extinctions were like for Earth, especially the dinosaurs. He knew Earth loved his earthlings very much, and for this to happen when Mars felt he could have done something to prevent it sent a pang of guilt and regret into his core. “WE, were too late.”

No one bothers to say anything about Mars's comment, each feeling something different about what they knew had probably transpired in the asteroid belt. All of a sudden, Venus, the only person who was still turning towards the asteroid belt, noticed another shadowy figure coming from it this time, much smaller. He visibly tensed, feeling his anger start to boil over thinking it was some moon here to do who knows what.

He relaxed himself when he could make out the colors of the celestial body, realizing it was only Luna. He crosses his hands over his chest and rolls his eyes in annoyance. Mercury catches on to such body movement, and looks back wondering what possibly could have gotten Venus annoyed at a time like this. He spins around to see Luna approaching. “Earth’s moon! What happened? I was so sure that after all that Earth would be able to resolve his issues.”

“And you were one hundred percent right it was just the other moon that seemed to be unable to follow the memo.” As Mars turns around to add himself to this conversation, Venus intently stares at Luna, rudely gesturing for him to continue. Luna sighs as this ‘typical Venus behavior’ but keeps going regardless. “They attacked Earth even after he apologized, and me, Titan, Callisto, IO, Phobos and Deimos were protecting him, but an asteroid slipped through and that,” He carefully gestures to Earth as if something as simple and plain as that could shatter him. “Was the end result.”

“We're sorry Mars!” Demos shrieks out of the blue, having no one even notice he was there. Unlike his usually crazy and wild personality, he genuinely seems saddened and worried, shown by his voice and body language. “We let the asteroid get past us!”

“Now all the earthlings are dead!” Phobos follows right behind Demos, covering his face with his hands, sniffling. “And it’s all our fault!”

Mars is quick to go over protective dad mode and wave off their concerns upon hearing his children's words. “No, no, no, this isn't your fault, you guys couldn’t have stopped it.” But I could have. “I bet being a hero and helping save Earth was tiring! How about you two take a rest in my orbit for a bit, huh?” Mars says, trying to change the topic. He reaches out his hand to them so he could pull them closer to him to comfort them and let them take a nap.

Demos and Phobos move closer to them, both still looking saddened and disappointed, Phobos still sniffling. Mar uses his gravity to pull the rest of the way closer to him, and it only takes a couple of seconds of closing their eyes before they are knocked out. Mar couldn't help but smile at the scene but that quickly disappears as he spins the two behind him and refocuses on the more serious situation at hand. “So, is he stable enough for us to talk to him or..?”

“Well, probably not. You can go and try to pay him a visit but…” Luna looked at Earth, who was still in his orbit, facing the sun so he couldn't see his face, but Luna had a nagging feeling he was still crying with the way he was still shaking. The ash and smoke clouds on his surface were gone and by this point, Luna figured the majority of the earthlings were dead, and it would be long till the last one breathed their final breath. “I doubt he can handle much more than that right now. It’s best for the most part, you leave him alone. I’ll stay with him to make sure he doesn’t do anything… irrational.” Mercury knew pretty well what Luna meant by that.

“Well, how about we stop by and try to talk to him for a bit?” Mercury suggests, shrugging his shoulders a bit. He wasn't that close to Earth, even after their whole therapist session, but he felt even a little teeny weeny check-up could help him. “Just a little check-in?”

“Go right ahead, but remember we all know how he can get after stuff like this, it has already happened way too many times. So just try your best to act cautious and careful, he really loved the earthling compared to his other life forms.” Luna thinks back to when when first relieved to Luna that he discovered a new lifeform on his surface. He looked so happy and excited to regain so much life that he had lost, he wouldn’t stop talking about it for days. Then that scream, that wail Earth had let out when the asteroid hit it. It was full of desperation and pain, like a wish, a beg that this wasn’t happening to him again. “He loved them so very much…”

There were a couple beats of awkward silence, before Venus turned around and started to move to Earth, his hands never leaving his chest. ”Well, what are you waiting for? Come on!” He barked at the others, not even bothering to look back as she called them out. Well, he snapped them out of whatever hole of emotions he was dwelling himself into, and they started to float behind Venus.

Mercury however pulls up next to Venus who pays him no mind. Mercury looks at him and say’s, “And thank you.” Mercury meddles with his fingers. At that moment he really thought Venus was just being rude again. If Venus had not warned him or acted fast enough, surely he and Earth would have collided, considering Earth was zooming with his eyes closed. “For, y'know, saving me.”

Mercury looks back up to Venus and he looks, shocked? Whatever that expression was on his face, it didn’t last long, as Venus' face became more so annoyed. “Whatever Mercury.” Mercury couldn’t help but smile and silently giggle at the use of his actual name. Guess times were really changing. (Good for you, shitty for Earth.)

The four pull up silently next to an Earth who hasn’t even noticed their presence yet. They all were pretty anxious and tense, approaching Earth in his current state. Luna pulls up closer than the rest, and opens his mouth preparing to say something to Earth but unexpectedly Mars talks first, cutting him off.

“Hey Earth,” Earth doesn’t bother to turn around at Mar’s greeting, they could hear his quiet sobs and sniffling. Mars pauses and takes a gulp of air and he moves closer and really slowly reaches out his hand towards him. “Uh… How are you, doing…?”

The second Mars words finish leaving his mouth, Earth instantly stops sobbing and sniffling, his shaking coming to a slow. Mars hand stopped approaching Earth after he came to notice these little changes, his uneasiness only getting worse by the second. Without warning, Earth spins around the tears flowing down his cheeks. “How do you THINK I'm doing Mars?” He says, with malice and hostility in his voice to a person who only wanted to check in on him.

“Earth, I’m sorry I,” When Earth had snapped at Mars right out of the blue, both his hand and his body pulled back. He immediately pushed himself farther onto the self blame route and was feeling incredibly apologetic.“I didn’t mea–”

“Of you didn’t mean it! When does anyone mean anything! You have no idea what I'm going through! What I have to deal with! What I lost!” Earth aggressively grabs at his head and keeps shaking and crying. “Just! Just go already! I don't want any of you here!”

Mercury was about to open his mouth to kindly protest against the way Earth was acting, because even while Mercury understood why he was reacting like this, he was an unpaid therapist afterall, especially after what happened before the revolution and the loss of his life in his opinion, Earth was too unstable to be alone. That got especially knocked into his head after the last time he recommended they left Earth alone. But Luna pulls next to him and whispers in his ear, “You guys just go. Remember, I'll stay with him so we don’t have a repeat of last time. He needs comfort anyhow, and I should be able to help him, just trust me,” just loud enough for only them two to hear.

Mercury clams his mouth shut at Luna’s words realizing it was probably best that way. “Oh well then, let's go.” Mercury tries to casually play it off (and fails) and starts to float off, as a surprised and panicked Mars then a calm(?) Venus following right behind.

Luna however remained just floating there in silence. Earth noticed this, but remained silent and rolled his eyes before spinning back around to face the sun. Luna takes no offense to this action, and just continues to wait there in silence.

For a couple minutes Earth kept pearing back at Luna, who noticed these actions but never made a comment whatsoever. Eventually after the like, the tenth time Earth looked back and saw Luna still there, felt his ‘aggravation’ and ‘annoyance’ come to a tipping point so he spun around to confront him. He looks Luna dead in the eyes and glares at him, but unlike that gaze he gave the moons, this glare was much weaker and fake and honestly Luna could see right through it. He remains silent for a couple of seconds, still ‘glaring’ at Luna all the way through till he spits out, “And why are you still here? I told you to leave.”

Luna silently looks at Earth and blinks. He then proceeded to open his mouth and speak, his tone serious and stern. “And where am I supposed to go? I’m your moon after all.” While Luna did care about Earth and the current condition he was in, he knew better by now than to baby him. That would just end up in people letting Earth walk all over them because he was in his feelings (for good reason) and that could also lead to some self-destructive habits if Luna or someone didn’t get some sense back in his head. As Luna asked that question Earth's face fell flat and he remained silent. “Besides, is that what you really want? To be left all alone?” Earth presses his ‘lips’ together and he backs up, his face still towards Luna but he was actively attempting to avoid eye contact.

“Earth, I told you this once, I'll tell you again. I know you.” Both Luna’s tone and voice softens at Earth’s quiet and timid behavior, knowing he’s got him in the right spot. “I’m your moon, even when others left, I've always been by your side. I know how much you care about the earthlings, I cared about them too! And I also know how hard it is on you to lose the life you worked so hard for again.” Earth only squeezes his lips together harder at Luna’s words, his eyes darting to meet Luna’s which made him pause. But that eye contact lasted less than a second before Earth tore his eyes away from Luna’s going back to avoiding eye contact. Luna takes a deep breath before continuing his speech.

“Remember that day, Earth? The first time you realized you had those little humans on you. You came and told me first and I could see bright as the stars were absolutely overjoyed by it. You kept talking about them over and over again. Even when it started to hurt you, even to my annoyance you kept them around. You never got upset at them. You always tried to the best planet, not for yourself, but for them. You had that connection with them, that I don’t even think you had for any other lifeforms you had.” Luna chuckles as he reminisces about the past, the more happier times of the solar system. “While I may not know how that connection you had between you and them, I know it hurts you so much feeling like you're losing that connection. But pushing all that down, isolating yourself, and lashing out others in anger, isn’t the way to go. I know you probably feel like giving up for good and I definitely know this whole speech won’t just make you automatically feel better but…”

“I want you to talk to me.” He points his hands to his chest. Luna didn't mean to sound so emotional, but even if he didn't say it, he was afraid. He couldn't always be that calm, responsible, responsible moon. “I want you to talk to others!” He gestured to that open space surrounding the two. “Nobody is gonna force you to move on, no one wants that, in the end it’s your choice to try again or give up.” Earth spins his head just a little bit towards Luna, and finally manages to look at him. “Please Earth, I can’t feel like losing you again, don’t wanna lose you, I need you brother,” Luna didn’t even realize he was crying till he felt his face dampen, and reached up to touch his face, feeling it running with tears. He does a mini smile and quietly laughs, he wasn’t supposed to be the one crying here. He wipes his tears off his face before looking back at Earth, “everyone does…”

Earth and Luna mantine eye contact to an extended period of time, neither blinking. Earth opens his mouth for a second then closes it again as if the words were practically on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn’t get them out. He breaks the eye contact he and Luna were holding, his gazing going down to the emptiness of space. Just as Luna began to worry and fear Earth was gonna go back to ignoring him, he says, “The voices are back,” in a voice so quiet, so soft, if Luna was even a few miles back, he probably wouldn't have heard it.

“Wait what?” Luna asked in confusion, no tears dripping down his face anymore. He was taken by surprise what Earth just said. It was only them two here so what other voices could he possibly be talking about. And what does he mean by they’re back? “What are you talking about? What voices Earth? And what do you mean by--”

“The voices Luna, the hallucinations, their back!” Earth cuts Luna off and runs his hands over his hand, grabbing at it with such a passionate and powerful grip in his panic, nails digging into his smokey atmosphere and ‘ruined’ surface. “All I see and all I hear is you, Titan, Astrodude, and all my Earthlings!” Luna was taken even farther aback Earth’s words, even accidentally moving back in his emotional breakdown. There were so many things he hadn’t known, and his eyebrow tense and contracted in concern and worry from Earth’s words. Especially because he was saying he was hearing a hallucinated version of him, Titan and his earthlings.

“Th-they’re mocking me! Telling me how pathetic and useless I am! How anyone could have saved them while I was just being useless! ‘While you just floated there and did nothing, Titan, Luna and the others worked harder to save the life you cared soooooo much for. Honestly Titan would so much better than you at taking care of us!’” Earth stutters a couple times as his tears only start up harder and he begins to start covering his ears, as if to drown out whatever the hallucinations were saying. “Then keep pointing to the asteroids or the sun and keep telling me I should end it already!”

Earth pauses in his speech taking shaky breaths of air, his mouth was practically zipped shut but soon enough, his mouth is practically zipped shut but soon enough, he opens his mouth again. It was aggressively trembling and he had it hanging open for a couple seconds before he spoke in a low voice. “A-and…” He slams his mouth shut again and his breathing starts to get harder, and for him it felt like time was coming to a slow pace as he bluttered out these next couple words. “For some reason… I can’t help but they’re right. That I am useless. That I never deserved them and they should have had a better planet or moon. And that, maybe, I should just…” Earth hands drop to his side and he looks dejected and he hesitates. It was like, the words went back down his ‘throat’ too afraid to be said out loud. But Luna knew what he meant. And if he was scared earlier, this terrified him.

“Earth– Earth, please, look at me.” As soon as Luna recovered from his initial shock, but did he really even recover at all? After hearing your brother was to end himself AGAIN, can a person recover from that trauma that quickly?, he was quick to act and respond. He grabbed Earth's dropped hands and moved much closer to him. “I want you to ignore whatever you’re hearing and seeing and look at me, the REAL Luna.” Luna looked desperate and as Earth looked up and their eyes met, he saw that, especially how he put extra emphasis on ‘real.’ “Answer me this, do you trust me?”

“I-” Earth stuttered out and paused. He clamped his mouth shut once again and began biting on his lip, taken off guard by Luna's ‘sudden’ behavior. He DID trust Luna and he knew that that was the answer Luna wanted to hear but for some reason the word ‘yes’ felt so weird to him. To say it was like trying to dry meat without anything to drink. But regardless of the struggle, Earth swallowed and mumbled, “Y-yes.”

“No, Earth,” Luna somehow moved eleven closer to Earth and he looked as if he was on the verge of tears all over again, and both times had been just for one single person. Earth. Earth was one of the only planets/moons that Luna truly cared for. They had a bond that went deeper than most people imagined and while Earth had his asshole moment at the end of the day they still loved and cared for one another. No matter how tough and calm you may be, just imagine, hearing your brother wants to commit su!c!d*, AGAIN, would make anyone want to fall to tears. The only reason Luna didn’t do it last time was he had to act fast, and he knew the second he saw the scene play out crying out for someone as stubborn as Earth wasn’t a choice. “I want you, I need you, to look me dead in the eyes, And, please tell me you believe and trust me, your real brother, over some hallucinations.”

Earth’s breath hitches for just a second, his eyes widening in surprise. “I-” He stutters out once more as he tries to meet Luna’s eyes but also tries to tell him that he did trust him. But there was a voice, a quiet voice that sounded EXACTLY like Luna whispering in his ear. They kept telling him so many terrible things that, it took almost every fiber in Earth’s body not to raise his hands and cover his ears. “Luna…” Was all he could say instead.

Luna takes a deep and heavy breath reminding himself to relax, that how he was acting was only going to make things worse and put some distance between him and Earth. “Listen to me Earth and only me right now Earth.” Luna had claimed himself for more or less and now was staring at Earth with a (mostly) serious gaze “You are not worthless, You are not useless. You are none of the things that those voices are calling you.” His gaze softens and he starts to become more expressful not only with his words but his body movements as well. “You are kind and beautiful. You may have your faults at times but everyone does! Just now I confronted Titan and his army of moons without thinking about the consequences for me or you…” Luna falters in his words, and takes another long heavy breath of air before continuing. “And unlike any other planet or moon, I know you are trying your VERY hardest to fix it.”

“But…I–”

“Whatever those ‘hallucinations’ are telling you are absolute bullshit!” Hearing Luna of all moons swear was a wake up call to Earth, he was completely flabbergasted by the word and the irritation put in it. “Listen to me, Earth. You always tried your best to project your earthlings! You were the best planet out there for them. Mars, Titan, they couldn’t compare to the love, the patience, the kindness you gave them!” Luna took another pause after realizing he had brought his voice too high, but as he got a good look at Earth’s face it still looked relatively the same but he had sensed something had changed, so he continued, but a tad bit quieter. “You tried your best to save them today, the best out of all of us. And if you really wanna keep going on blaming yourself, blame me just as much. It was because of me, you went into the asteroid belt where the moons were hiding and got attacked.”

“No, you were the most helpful and trusting person during this whole situation, this could never be your fault Luna!” Earth was quick to wave off all Luna’s self blame the second he heard it. To him, Luna had nothing to do with what his actions resulted with. It was all him, not Luna.

“Then how is it yours? Tell me after you redeemed yourself and apologized to Titan, the only moon you ‘hurt’ was the aftermath of Ganymede and Europa demanding the others to throw the asteroids at a planet who did nothing to them.” Earth stayed quiet. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Five beats of silence had passed before Luna sighed then proceeded to rush into a hug at full force with Earth. “It wasn’t your fault Earth. That’s all I really want for you to understand and get. Its not your fault and no one blames you for it.”

Earth is taken by surprise by Luna’s sudden hug, his hands remaining still in the air as his core tries to catch up with what happened. As it finally hits him, he slowly wraps his hands around Luna and drops his head down to his shoulder, his tears hitting even harder than before.

Luna slightly turns his head to look at Earth’s and smiles at the sight, in return wrapping his hands even harder against Earth. Earth is silent but Luna could feel the slight movements and tears run down his face onto his shoulder telling Luna that he was still conscious. “Hey, you know I meant what I said, all of it. You are beautiful, you are kind, and you are an amazing planet that we all love. We’ll stay with you no matter what.”

Earth silently moves his head and makes a small groan, as Luna takes it as a good thing. He pats Earth’s back a couple times before going back to the never ending embrace the brothers were sharing. “There, there, Earth. Let’s just stay here for a while. Rest up, you need it.”

And so, brothers close their eyes the only sound filling the space around them is the sound of their breathing. As Earth’’s tears started to come to a slow, so did the voices and a small, tiny feeling filled his chest. It hardly was much right now, but over time the feeling, that light would slowly grow and Earth would eventually recover. And all he needed was the first couple steps.

Notes:

Now to explain everyone’s reactions based on my logic.

Mercury: He would be sympathetic with Earth, even if he hadn’t hung out that much, he knew that Earth deeply cared about his Earthlings. And their therapy session only solidified his ideas. Mercury out of all the PLANETS, (minus Earth, he doesn’t really count.) would approach this situation with the most “common sense/logic” his therapist mode immediately kicking in after seeing Earth. Regardless of having the most sense on this, he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous around Earth because while he heard and seen snippets from the dinosaur incident (the Sun and Venus not allowing him to leave, mostly the Sun), from what he could tell the reaction was terrible. He feared that Earth was going through all that once again and a bit scared to push it too far and that moment he was going to attempt to talk to him, when Luna confronted him, he realized at the moment he was a better option than him.

Mars: You might feel he specifically was really out of canon but I felt he was somewhat in canon in my opinion. I feel as shown in “The Rocky Planets,” specifically in the end during the talk between him and Earth, his more guilty and regretful side came out. And that was only after Earth had made it out of the revolution unscathed, and he only forgave himself only after Earth played it off the sad moment as a joke and that he openly forgave him. Now based on this info, I feel as if Earth was really hit with the asteroid and they died, Mars would really play the blame game ten times harder, thinking he could have prevented it somehow. He is one of the closest to witness the dinosaur incident and I feel that could really resurface some memories on top of it. This blame game made him act much more nervous and timid around Earth as if, Earth had blamed him too and how Earth acted around him only made him solidify the (false) thought.

Venus: Venus and Earth were friends but they weren’t FRIENDS. Because of this Venus cared about Earth, but he didn’t really care in the way long time friends did. Combining that with the fact that in the SolarBalls canon, Venus HAD life, watching Earth lose his life only made Venus think of the past when he lost his life. So he tried his best to not have a huge reaction to it and actively tried to push down his memories as long with how he felt about Earth’s situation, making him seem more like an asshole, but no one commented on it too focused on something else or their own feelings.

Luna: People seem to actively forget Luna has trauma. That watching your brother almost “throw himself into the sun” can be traumatizing and scary. I feel Luna would try to remain as calm as he could, not for his sake, but for Earth’s. But there were just times like hearing his brother was hearing hallucinations and wanted to end himself again, just makes people break. But he actively tried to recover, there were times he couldn’t control it. (He’s 100% planning to send Earth back to Mercury for more therapy, but personally he should consider it too. Luna Needs A Hug or Luna Angst needs to become a real tag people.)

Earth: Self explanatory, but if it is somewhat confusing just comment about it. (I’m running out of space in notes and I'm getting lazy.)

The next chapter will be shorter, considering it will be about just the moon's reactions afterwards and meeting their planets, they won't know what happened yet till chapter 4 though.

Chapter 3: The Calm Before The Storm

Summary:

A confrontation, more like a meeting, with the gas giants and their moons. Whatever will happen? Spoiler: Absolutely nothing other than a little scolding but not even for the right reason.

Notes:

This chapter is more like filler if anything, it doesn't really contribute much and doesn't really have much angst. The only reason they exist is because I needed y'all to get the moon side of the story.

And I have to clarify this before the store even starts, I changed Titania's personality from the cannon. I try to go with somewhat her old personality, but it's kind of hard to do when you only saw the old personality for about 2 minutes.

So, just in advance, I had to tell you she and Europa has had this beef since like the Battle of the planets because Titania didn't like her ways in this AU. She they argued over how she was doing it and like they had issues ever since. The only reason Titania didn't up and leave was in partial fear of Uranus or more so fear for the younger ones safety when it came to Uranus.

The only reason she didn't help us when everyone else was defending him, was because she was too busy worrying about the younger moons. She wanted to help but she put the safety of them before that because she knew at this point she couldn't just leave or at least get them to leave.

Another part of the reason she's beefing with Europa so much more now is because how she saw Earth reacted to losing his earthlings. She felt she could relate on some level because it was like him losing somebody important to him corresponded to the fear she has when it comes to the you ger moons and feels should would have reacted the same way.

I know this means absolute no sense, I'm tired okay and I'll flesh it out later. It's just unfair that every other giant gets at least one important moon that contributes to the plot and Titania just becomes a love interest.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ganymede rubs at his surface, the brute force of the blow of that asteroid that Earth sent hurling towards his surface left him dizzy and hurt. When Titan had thrown it at him, it took him by surprise and he went flying sure, but it wasn’t like it hurt (that much), it just took him off guard. But with Earth that single asteroid caused him a faint headache, and when he went to run his fingers over his surface, he could feel a decent sized crater laying on his surface. Great. He pushes away whatever leftover asteroid pieces were left handing around in his gravity.

And brings head up to look around at his surroundings, he could hear the Earth talking but as of right now he didn't care what he was saying, too focused on his girlfriend who was also recovering from the attack. Europa was already partially standing brushing herself off as she held a look of annoyance on her face. Ganymede rushed over to her, and as she placed a hand on her shoulder, genuine concern lacing his voice. “Are you alright babe?”

“Yeah, I'm fine.” Europa brushes herself off one more time removing the last of the asteroid debris in her gravitational field before standing looking straight in front of her and Ganymede could see that stingy look in her eyes. “Just look at him.” Ganymede cranks his head ninety degrees to just watch as the Earth rushes out of the asteroid belt in a rush. As the trail of tears Earth left behind quickly evaporates, Ganymede rolls his eyes in irritation and makes a ‘tch’ sound seeing this as Earth just being dramatic. “Attacks us for what he did then runs off over some earthlings as if he wouldn’t recover.”

“Earth!” Ganymede hears Luna call out, redirect his attention to the voice to find Luna span around looking through the asteroid belt. Huh. He forgot he was even here. “Really? Tell me. What did you expect? What did you REALLY expect, murdering billions of lives?” Ganymede hears Luna continue to talk but the rest of it becomes tuned out. He really was focusing on Luna’s words. What did they expect from killing those earthlings? To him it was obvious, respect. Knocking down the golden planet by taking the one thing that made him truly special. His life. So then their planets would see their worth.

But as the seconds ticked by and Ganymede became less aware of his surroundings. Luna's words kept ringing in his head. What did you expect? They killed the earthlings they accomplished part one of their grand plan for respect. But how did they move on from there? What if their plan was all for nothing? What if he had failed in being a leader? He could already imagine Jupiter’s disappointed voice. No! Get a hold of yourself. Ganymede. Ganymede!

“GANYMEDE!” Ganymede snapped out of whatever trance he was in at the sound of Europa’s voice calling his name. He popped his head up to notice Luna had already disappeared, having finished whatever speech Ganymede couldn’t care less for and left to go after his planet. Europa had moved into his line of view and she looked worried. She had grabbed both of his arms with her signature deadly grip. “What is wrong with you?”

Ganymede takes a second to regain his bearings and looks at Europa with blank expression before saying, “no, no, babe. I’m fine. Just…” He pauses once again and rubs the top of his head, his gaze moving away from Europa to the many asteroids around them. “Thinking.”

“Ganymede.” Europa gently places her hand on Ganymede’s cheek, redirecting his attention back to her. “What’s done is done. We did what we had to do, no matter what it was or the consequences.” Europa takes her hand off Ganymede’s and gestures to the area and moons sound them, but she remains having an intense gaze right into his eyes. “I understand you might feel bad, I don’t like how we had to end this either.” Europa’s expressions may have remained hard and ‘cold’ but she genuinely meant what she said. “But, remember what this is all for, who this is all about. We’ve been using words far too long and now it’s time to go to the next step, action! Regardless of whether they see it or not, we're gonna gain something we so rightfully deserved after all this.”

“Respect.” Ganymede adds on to her sentence. As one the revolution he had to know the whole point of this by core. “I know, I know, just–” I just don’t feel this is right. How after all this are we gonna gain respect? But he leaves that unsaid, trying to push that feeling and Luna’s words as deep down as possible, trying to stick to what he ‘knew’ was right. So he changed his words hoping not to cause Europa any suspension. “Just, thanks for staying by my side, babe.”

Luckily while Europa still had her suspicions she let it slide over her, figuring there were more important matters to attend to and simply kissed Ganymede on the cheek to which his face turns slightly cherry blossom pink and he smiles right back at her.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the two love birds, all the moons were discussing between themselves what had already happened. Some were prideful and happy, accomplished by once they have done, others worried and regretful still thinking back to Earth’s outburst. Many had just one more question on their mind, ‘what’s next?’

And yet, no one dared to ask it till the four moons (Yes, I'm including Titania in this. And yes, I shall make a terrible attempt to fix her personality, and hopefully Titanic while I'm at it.) pulled up on Ganymede and Europa, anger fixed on all their faces. Titania moves up the farthest and crosses her arms over her chest, her glare, piercing and cold as she looks Europa dead in her eyes. Europa, however, remains unfazed by this action and matches such actions, adding her own heat and fire to it.

“So?” Their stare-off lasted a couple seconds, before Titania asked a small question, yet her single word contained so much hate and malice in it. “What do you plan to do now that has killed billions of lifeforms?”

Ganymede was taken off guard by Titania’s words, it was just like Luna’s words that couldn’t help constantly keep ringing in head, no matter how far he pushed it down. What did you expect? He opens his mouth to provide something, anything to make it seem like they weren’t absolutely clueless about what should happen, but Europa beat him to the punch. “Oh, please Titania. You're acting as if you weren’t in this earlier and now you wanna back out like a coward.”

Titania falters at Europa’s words, because she knew, to a fault, they were true. She tries her best not to show it but even in that tiny millisecond, Europa saw it and grinned as she continued answering Titania’s question. “We lie and wait here. The news most likely hasn’t spread as much and revealing ourselves now before the planets know what we were capable of without having too will only end in failure. Soon enough they’ll understand not to undermine us.” Europa made sure to project her voice so not only the five could hear her but all the moons.

“And exactly how do you expect that to work?” Titan moves up to Ganymede, not with the same fierceness of Titania, but he still looked rather upset. “‘Hey, planets! We just killed billions of earthlings!’ and what? We get respect? This will only end in disaster!”

“Oh save me the story Titan! You were with us in this revolution from the very start. You believed this in cause as much as we do and you even got others to join us!” Ganymede points an accusing finger at Titans chest, very irritated at Titans betrayal and the fact he had the nerve to blame them. “But the second Earth gave you what YOU wanted and apologized, you all of a sudden decided you were against it and joined the other side! We should have never let a COWARD run a revolution.”

Titan however doesn’t let an ounce of regret on his face, if anything, Ganymede’s words only fuel his anger towards the both of them. “It wouldn't have been a revolution if YOU and EUROPA–!” He started to yell but abruptly stopped, as he felt a shift in the gravity around him. He wants the only one who felt it either, everyone could feel a force that was only getting stronger around them and some of the asteroids around them moved.

There were a few planets who could cause such a distribution, the giants of course. The moons, especially the older ones, who were able to put two and two together either tried to steel themselves, knowing this was the moment they had been waiting for. Yet as the presence got stronger their nerves were starting to get to the best of them. The younger ones either laughed in glee as they felt the strange sensation on his surface or cowered in fear behind some asteroids and moons.

Europa who was originally taken off guard by this turned away for Titan and the others preparing for confrontation. She was annoyed they might have been found out earlier than expected, but she’s already come to terms with not everything will go as planned in an endeavor such as this. Ganymede had seen this and also done the same, turning away from them and looking into open space with the others. He worried about who’d he have to come face to face with, especially if it was Jupiter. No matter how much he wanted to take his mind off of ‘the big guy’ and go back on the reason he was doing, he could help but feel guilty for this, as if it was an act of betraying him.

The force got stronger but before Titan could even see who that mysterious planet was, as he heard the voice calling his name, his face paled in dread as he knew what was going to happen next. “Titan! Titan! Where are you?!” As Saturn appeared in view of all the moons, many of the moons who didn’t know him, Uranus and a few of Jupiter moon specially, tensed up wondering how exactly he’d react to their revolution and why he was calling out Titan’s name specially. Saturn’s moons however only became annoyed, calling the only moon’s name that he ever bothered to know. Many had rolled their eyes, snorted in disgust, that previous concern mostly gone as they knew that he didn’t know what had taken place, or the fact his other moons left, too busy looking for his favorite.

“Titan!” Saturn had started to turn around towards their direction and Titan knew it was a matter of moments before he saw them, HIM. “Titan–!” Saturn was about to call out his name out again, but stopped as his eyes settled on all the moons in the asteroid belt, before his and Titan’s eyes met. He looked happy as if he was about to cry tears of joy, and reached out towards him, pulling him closer.

“Titan! Where have you been? Did you know how worried I've been about you!?” As Titan is pulled close enough to Saturn, he begins the questioning and inspecting. Titan could feel every moon's eyes of them, or more specially him, all the tension gone. He could help but feel bothered and annoyed by that and by the way Saturn was babying him. Titan sighs and loosely crosses his arms around his stomach, not even bothering to meet Saturn’s gaze. “I heard a scream coming from here. Are you hurt? Is your atmosphere okay? Why did you even leave?”

Titan brings his eye’s back to Saturn’s, taking a huff of air. “I’m fine, I’m fine. I’ve just been…” His voice trails off, trying to think of something to say to him. He couldn’t bring himself to tell him about the whole revolution, not now. As Titan’s voice cut off, Saturn actually looked up and observed the area around him to get a hint as to why he had disappeared.

“Oh.” He says as he finally got a good look at the moon around him. He recognized a bunch of them, them being his and some of Jupiter’s moons. “Oh!” He shouted out in surprise, as the realization that all his other moons were here too. He hadn’t even realized the rest of his moons had gone missing. “Ensalada! Diane! Mime! And the rest of you! You're also here?” Practically every one of Saturn’s moons rolled their eyes at this typical remark, getting their names wrong and not even noticing their existence. Titan made an inaudible groan at Saturn tactic knowing this was only proving Ganymede and Europa point and the blame would somehow mostly fall on him. “Wait. Is this some sort of party?”

Saturn gets all excited and giddy at this concept, not realizing what actually was taking place was far from some party. He raises a hand to his cheek, and starts to talk again, giving no one a chance to answer his question. “Oh! I gotta go get Jupiter, this is gonna be so much fun! We haven’t had a party in forever!” Saturn spins around and zooms off, leaving Titan and the rest of them behind.

It didn't take Saturn long to spot Jupiter, he was the biggest celestial body in the solar system and was the one who stayed in his orbit the most. But as Saturn got closer he could see how much Jupiter was fidgeting and glancing around his area, and that got him worried. He slowed down his speed just a little bit and called out, “Jupiter!”

The effect of that was practically immediate, Jupiter had jumped back and spun around, hands up in the air as if he was prepared for an attack against him. He had physically relaxed after a couple seconds, dropping his hands down, some parts of his body remained this. These actions had only increased Saturn’s confusion and concern for his friend. “Are you alright my gigantic gassy friend?”

“No, Saturn! Haven’t you noticed!” Jupiter sticks his hands out, them being wide and tense as he yells at Saturn, not out of anger but out of pure fear. He pauses for a couple seconds before looking down, his hands gripping his head, as he continues to talk, the fear in his voice only getting worse. “My moons have gone missing and I fear he’s back and he’s taken them for revenge!” He brings his hands down to his stomach as he fidgets with them, his head still hanging low as he doesn’t meet Saturn’s eyes.

“Him…?” Saturn’s eyes widen in surprise as he contemplates what Jupiter had just told him. There was a flash of distress on his face before he started to shake his head and continued to talk. “No, no, no, Jupiter. You're overreacting! It’s been billions of years since we did that and he hasn’t come back then, why would he come back now?” Jupiter looked back up at Saturn, but continued to fidget his hands as the doubts behind Saturn’s word lingered in his mind. He looked desperate to believe Saturn’s word but he couldn't bring himself to do it. “Besides, I found all moons, including yours and Titan, having a party in the asteroid belt! Let’s just forget about all this, about him, and go have fun!” Saturn raises his hands up in the air, as he pushes his thoughts away from him to what they were gonna do next, looking seemingly unbothered by what Jupiter had just said.

Jupiter however wasn’t as easily swayed by his words, but still tried to push down his gut feeling as far down as his mind allowed it too. He thought about what Saturn had said, ‘his moons having a party in the asteroid belt,’ feeling extremely off to him. They didn’t really seem to be the type to do that, but he figured who was behind it. His Galilean moons, or more specially Europa and Ganymede, Callisto and IO only followed after them. He should have expected it, why would they want to go and do that for some moon they had never met. He only gave them permission to find him and come back, not gather all the moons and party. Jupiter huffs. “Yeah…. Let’s have fun.” He took one final glance back toward the Kupiter Belt before moving towards the asteroid belt with Saturn by his side.

When the two gas giants pulled up to this so-called ‘party,’ he saw Europa and Ganymede, supposedly arguing with Titan, Callisto, IO, and Titania. When Europa takes notice of their presence, she shuts up and nudges Ganymede before shooting a glare, sharp like daggers, at the four moons and looking at Jupiter and Saturn.

Jupiter takes absolutely nothing of it, taking it as one of their usual arguments, and focuses on the more present situation at hand. “Well, I heard you four were having a party and you seemed to have invited every moon in the solar system to it.” Jupiter folded his hands over his and had taken on the disappointed father voice. “I only gave you four permission to find Titan and come back. Nothing more. The least you could have done was tell me.”

Europa had been prepared to to discuss what they wanted from the planets, much to her dismay because they didn’t even know so she would have to explain the whole thing and this would happen way earlier than she had preferred, not to hear Jupiter scold them over a ‘party’ they thought they had. She was about to take the lead and say what she really wanted to, putting an end to this and finally getting what they deserved but Jupiter continued to ramble on about what they did was wrong and continued to scold them, never giving her the chance to talk.

As Jupiter continued to talk and Saturn tried to somewhat reason with him, Titan knew this could have been his chance. He looked over to Europa and Ganymede, Europa rolling her eyes but remaining silent and Ganymede doing the same because Jupiter cut them off whenever they, or mostly Europa, tried to speak.

There was no way that they could stop him if Titan wanted to talk and with the two biggest planets, where most of these other moons came from, they’d be the perfect ones to reveal what happened just now. And yet, Titan couldn’t bring himself to move up and tell them about it. It wasn’t even the fact that Europa shot him and glare and threatened him to shut his mouth and stay quiet while she took the lead, or the fact that Titan didn’t even want too, because he did want to admit and tell them about the attack they caused against Earth, the people they killed.

He couldn’t bring himself to do it because of Saturn.

He feared how Saturn would react to such information that he was in a revolution to attack a planet. Sure, he couldn’t stand Saturn favoritism and how the other moons treated him over it. The constant acting like everything wrong in their life was Titan’s fault and the constant babying, but he still cared for Saturn. He was the figure that took care of him since the beginning of time, how could he not? For him to find out, Titan, the moon he loved and adored the most was in a revolution, Ganymede and Europa ‘caused,’ he didn’t wanna think about how Saturn might have treated him afterwards.

Sure, he could probably ask Callisto and IO to say it, but from what he could tell, Jupiter was pretty upset with them too and they most likely wouldn't be able to do it. He took a gulp, hoping to swallow all his fears with it moving up toward his planet and Jupiter. He opened his mouth but who knows what he would have said at that time, as Sun’s booming voice rang out in space, cutting him off before he even began.

“Attention, all planets of my Solar System! Gather around!” Jupiter had stopped talking and everyone had turned their attention to the inner Solar System. Sun had sounded like his usual cheery self, yet it seemed as if he was suppressing something more dark in his voice. “Oh! And, do be sure to bring all your moons with you.” This time it was reality clear, some form of malic could be heard in his voice and Jupiter could help but worry what this was all about.

Jupiter takes a few moments longer to look into the inner Solar System, before he looks back down to Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, and IO. “Well, come on. I’ll finish talking to you guys later.” He moved far off to the side, not wanting to accidentally send an asteroid hurling at a moon, before pushing through the asteroid belt and heading into the inner Solar System.

Saturn seemed disappointed that there was no ‘party,’ he followed behind Jupiter. “Come on Titan!” As Saturn called out to Titan and only Titan out of all his moons, he could already feel the dirty looks that so many moons were giving him. He sighed, before simply resigning to his fate and started to move toward the Sun, every other moon doing the same, most wondering what it could possibly be about, others already having a gut feeling of why they were specially included into this sun meeting.

And in the distance, the lone dwarf planet Moon had brought the back-up, a dwarf planet and their moon, he believed would help put an end to the madness and save his friends. But as he heard Sun’s voice and saw them move toward the inner system, he knew. He was too late. He had failed them. All of them. And there was absolutely nothing he could do to stop the fate they would soon be inclined to as punishment for their actions.

Notes:

I'm not even going to bother to hide what I plan to do for the next chapter, it's practically the solar system trials rewritten. It'll be under different circumstances now and it will hopefully hit more points that SolarBalls missed. I've just got two questions for y'all, first, would you like if this ended up being over I don't know, 5,000 words and I feel like we're not close to done me just splitting listen to two parts? Then could you tell me any specific plot points you would really want in the trial and I'll try to add it. It can be about any planet or moon. It's just that I don't want to mess anything important that can be contributed to this.

Anywho, onto the chapter. This was a bit more lazy and I apologize for that. School got me hook, line, and sinker and I missed lasts weeks update so I didn't even bother to double check this. I feel like this might be badly paced and I'm just going to apologize for that now. I'll try to reread and edit this in the morning. Next chapter will be longer to make so I will actually make sure it's written good since it'll be the final.

Chapter 4: Chose Your Representatives!!!

Summary:

Not the Solar System Trials, y'all gotta wait, just a little bit longer.

Notes:

TWO UPDATES IN ONE DAY???? WOW! 😱😱😱

(I posted the last chapter at 12 am today.)

Decided to give you one last piece of content before I disappear for two weeks or more. I literally did this all today. Didn't reread this as always but it should mostly be fine, I actually felt better about the chapter of the last chapter, but it does get a bit iffy at the end.

A moderate amount of angst, mostly from Sun.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“Well pipsqueak, what are you planning to do now?” Venus had said, following right behind Mercury, Mars remained silent by his side. They were just leaving Earth with Luna after trying to talk with him had turned out to be an utter failure. Mars had his hands loosely around his stomach, avoiding looking back towards Earth after their interaction. Even though he was looking forward, he was just barely processing the conversation happening in front of him, his mind elsewhere.

“What else? We've got to tell Sun what happened.” Mercury slows down and spins around to look at Venus as he answers him. He pointed towards Sun who had been spun around and hadn’t noticed their presence yet.

“And you sure you want to do that now? Our Sun may be may be mentally unstable as fuck but you’d be a fool not to notice he actually cares in his own freaky, multiple solar flares, way.” Venus’s tone is nonchalant as he said this, his hands not leaving his chest. “If he finds out moons attacked me, Mars and Earth, and the order in his Solar System wasn’t perfect,” Venus raises a hand up in the air, his palm wide before crushing it into a fist, before his eyes go and meet Mercury’s. “I’d prefer to be far away from that rampage, pipsqueak.”

“Look, I'm not forcing you to be here Venus. But someone has to tell him. He’s bound to figure it out sooner or later. And as the closest planet to him, I don’t wanna deal with the later.” Mercury’s voice becomes nervous and shivered as he could already imagine the amount of solar flares he’d most likely have to deal with. “Besides, this whole revolution was about how unfair planets were treating moons right? I have a plan that will hopefully keep Sun from going on a rampage and will have everyone learn the consequences of their actions!” He looks forward once again, towards the Sun, trying to remain optimistic despite his anxiety, hoping he’d be able to reason with him, but he knew in a situation like this, his chances were dim.

Contrary to what Venus had originally said, and the fact Mercury said he still had full intention to still go to the Sun, Venus stayed behind him. However, he looked rather pissed by Mercury’s words, or more so him talking about the moons and rolled his eyes. “I wouldn’t even bother, the moons deserve whatever is coming for them for attacking us. We didn’t do anything to them, and yet they pulled us into their bullshit. Whatever you're planning to do, pipsqueak, don’t even.”

Mercury doesn’t respond to Venus knowing anything he said would be futile. His anger towards them was completely valid, he was right when he said he hadn’t done anything to the moons and them attacking him was unwarranted. But still, from what he had heard, the moons have been treated unfairly so he hoped that with his plan, they would face consequences but also gain the respect they also wanted.

He came to a halt as they finally pulled up close enough to the Sun, Mercury redirecting all his attention to the task at hand. “Sun!” He shouted as loud as he possibly could, regaining Mars attention making him become refocused on his surroundings and causing Venus to wince in annoyance at how loud and squeaky it was.

“Oh, hey Mercury! Your back!” Sun spun around in surprise, but as he looked down to the smallest planet that he favored so much, he started to feel excitement that he had come back after leaving him alone for so long. “I was starting to worry because you left your orbit for so long. And, Mars and Venus.” Sun looks past Mercury to Mars than Venus, as he starts to act more stern and he peers at the two of them. He can see all the craters on their surface but thinks nothing of it, taking it as just some extreme asteroid dodgeball. “Why are you out of your ORBITS?!”

As Sun starts to take on his signature crazy look, Venus and Mars start to back off, neither of them wanting to get solar flare shot right at their face. Mars wraps his hands around Phobos and Demos so as to protect them if they get shot at, he could take it but he knew they wouldn’t be able to. Mercury noticing what Sun was doing quickly butts in, as to prevent the situation from escalating any further. “Wait, Sun, they have a good reason for being here! There’s something we have to tell you!”

Sun stops looking at Mars and Venus, his expression softening and returning to normal as he looks back as Mercury. “Which is…?” Sun was skeptical as to why three of the rocky planets had come to him just to tell him something, especially when two of them weren’t in the orbits they were assigned. But he had undying faith in Mercury, that if he said it was a good reason, he trusted it was an actual good reason that deserved his attention.

Mercury looked back to Mars and Venus for support, but Mars was acting all nervous not saying a word and Venus just gave him a look that screamed, ‘not my idea, not my problem.’ Mercury was irritated at Venus’s antics his face dropping in disappointment, while internally making a note to check in on Mars later.

He looked back up at Sun who was anticipating Mercury’s answer, an eyebrow raised up as he looked at him in curiosity and confusion at how he was acting. Mercury gulps, before taking a deep breath and proceeding to speak. “Well, Sun…” Mercury involuntarily fidgets with his hands as he speaks, just barely managing to keep eye contact with him. “There was a protest containing most of the moons in this solar system.” Sun’s confusion only becomes worse as Mercury goes on. A protest? That didn’t like much to call him for. Mercury had taken a moment to pause, his eyes leaving the Sun’s and the fidgeting coming to a halt. “And when I say protest, I actually mean… revolution…? Against the planets.”

Sun took a moment to process Mercury’s words, but when they finally came to him, it hit him like a bullet train. A revolution. Against HIS PLANETS. His surface started to pop even more so than before, and there was a flame, hot burning anger in his eyes. Mercury however failed to see it, and continued to talk, gesturing to Mars and Venus.

“They attacked Mars and Venus. Me and Earth’s moon had found them knocked out unconscious in the asteroid belt, looking like how they look now. And Earth…” Mercury paused once more to bite his tongue feeling pity as he thought back to how Earth looked when he came out of the asteroid belt. “They hit him with an asteroid that killed all his life form, and is clouding all his surface in ash and smog.”

Mercury didn’t look at Sun as he awaited a response to all the information, but all he got was the silence of space. He looked back to see Venus pulling Mars back, both looked worried as they moved back, Mars was even gesturing for him to come back to. As Mercury looked back, he suddenly started to feel hotter, hotter than he usually got floating next to the Sun anyways.

When he looked back, he couldn't help but jump back at the way the Sun was looking. His eyes were twitching as he looked down at the palms off his hand, smiling like he was insane. He starts to laugh like a maniac too, that smile remaining on his face. He clenches his fists letting out one last extremely long ‘Ha!’ His eyes stopped twitching as looked back at Mercury finishing up his last ‘ha,’ rubbing his eyes.

“Okay, okay, Mercury, seems like you’ve been getting into a joking business. You actually had me for a moment there!” His voice is lighthearted and playful as he chuckles a bit and waves a finger at a Mercury. It was as if what happened just a few moments ago was just some twisted illusion. “A revolution against my planet happening under my watch? Hilarious!” He wipes his eyes, and that was a realization dawning on Mercury. “But, why are you guys actually out of your orbits?”

“There actually was a revolution, Sun.” Mercury a pang of remorse and pity as he confirmed there was actually a revolution. Being closest to him, he knows Sun best. He knows that all his clingy and possessive behavior is from wanting to protect them, and to know that effort to go to waste must hurt. “Look at Mars and Venus, you think they did that from some asteroid dodgeball?” He pointed to Venus and Mars still backed up. “And look at Earth too, you can see the clouds covering his land and water, right? That was because he was hit with an asteroid.” He gestures to Earth, now fast asleep in his orbit with Luna.

Sun is shaken into silence as he glances between the three of them, as the fact that Mercury was telling the truth hit him, as he really looked at all their conditions. He had failed them. He dropped his head down and gripped it with his hands. He didn’t try hard enough to protect them. He started to breathe harder as his surface started to pop and flare again. They could have gotten killed like the others. He squeezed his eyes shut as he heard a voice in the distance, but it felt too far away. He was nothing but a failed star. His eyes popped open, they were red but seemed so empty and blank, yet at the same time they had a fiery passion of revenge hidden in them.

“Where are they.” As he spoke, he slowly brought his eyes up, a small amount of plasma shot out his mouth, his voice low and dangerous. Mercury, Mars, and Venus shivered at the tone of his voice, and had not heard him speaking like that in such a long time. “WHERE ARE THE MOONS WHO DARED TO DISRUPT THE PEACE OF MY SOLAR SYSTEM!” His surface was really bubbling now, and he was barely containing a solar flare that just wanted to roll off the tip of his tongue. But no, he had to save it for those moons who had ruined everything he worked so hard for.

Mercury was silenced by the tone of his tone, the popping of his surface and the shifting plasma, the glare in his eye as he raised his head searching for something, the way he looked as if he was holding back a solar flare. He knew what Sun was planning to do. “Wait, Sun! Think about what you want to do!” Mercury pleaded with him, this was already going far south than how he wanted it too.

“They dared to ruined the balance of MY Solar System!” Sun shouted, but he didn’t even glance at Mercury. As he noticed Jupiter and Saturn at the asteroid belt, at first glance, it would only have seemed like they were talking to one another. But the Sun could see past that, Jupiter was actually looking down, towards the asteroid belt. He knew he had found what he was looking for. “I will make sure they suffer the consequences of their actions.”

“We can do a trial instead!” Venus looked shocked and annoyed. To him they didn’t might not have deserved death, but they sure didn’t deserve to get a trial to plead their case. Not after what they did. “They only did this because they were tired of how planets were treating them, we could teach them the errors of their ways without death!”

“You don’t understand! I HAVE TO DO IT FOR YOU! Or do you want to be next, Hermes!?” Sun had cranked his head towards Mercury and lowered as far down as he could, his dark eyes staring right into Mercury’s. He fell silent and started to tremble a bit, moving back as if it would help him escape his gaze. It was only when he did that was when Sun realized how he was acting, what he had just done. Threaten one of the planets he swore to protect. His eyes faded back to white, the crackling and popping of his surface coming to a slow as concern took over any fear he originally had. “I am so sorry Mercury! I didn’t mean to!”

“I…” Mercury swallowed down the saliva he didn’t even realize he was holding inside his mouth. He readjusts his position trying to calm himself, but a slight nervousness could be heard in his voice as he talks, afraid to make a misstep that would get Sun to react like that again. “It’s alright Sun. Could you at least, consider what you're about to do? How would that make the Giants feel? Those are their moons afterall.”

Sun looks up and Jupiter and Saturn, once again and they seemingly were conversing with their moons. It reminded him of the past. The days when they were still close. He sighs, internally cursing himself as he calls everyone to gather around, making sure to sound extra hostile when he talked of the moons, for just not eliminating the threat to his planets right away.

It had been any other day in Uranus’s orbit, isolated from all the others, keeping to himself as he wrote in his diary. Except now, he had no moon to occasionally talk to whenever he or they got bored. Neptune hadn’t been around much either anymore, and Uranus had felt lonely nowadays.

Not to say he hadn’t already felt lonely already, being shunned or mocked by most other planets, but at least back then he knew his moons would always be by his side, and he thought he would always be by theirs. When he made that inconsiderate joke, he had allowed his jealousy over Saturn to get the best of him, not thinking about how his moon would have felt.

And he was ashamed to even have to admit this, it took NEPTUNE of all planet’s to make him realize his mistake and even bother going to look for them and apologize to them. And by the time he even tried, his words already had their impact and they ran away from him once more. And even though he was originally upset by such an action, while in the silence of his orbit once more he realized they were completely in the right to do that.

He had gone looking for them over and over and over again after that hoping to make it up to some of the only people who cared about him, but they were nowhere to be found. And after each time he returned to his orbit alone, he felt the despair inside of him grow and sinking feeling that he had messed up once again, pushing away the people who cared.

Uranus huffs and the memories and thoughts, taking his eyes off his notebook and spun around, looking back to the Kupiter belt. He debates on whether to try to go looking for them again, but regret consumes him and he quickly denies the thought, figuring he had done enough damage and they were better off without him.

He puts away his diary having suddenly lost the motivation to write, or do much of anything. He looked up at the space, always finding the slight beautiful, but nowadays it just reminded him of how dark and lonely everything was to him. It had just remained like this for a few minutes, the dark, soundless space consuming all his senses.

“Attention, all planets of my Solar System! Gather around!” Since Uranus and Neptune were supposed to be the farthest planets out, whenever Sun called them his voice hardly ever sounded like a yell, and he and Neptune could never tell the tone he was saying it in. “Oh! And, do be sure to bring all your moons with you.” Uranus slapped his face at this extra added detail, cursing himself for his bad luck. He was probably gonna get a solar flare shot at him knowing the Sun for not following orders.

He just stood there for a couple of seconds, glancing up at the Sun as he prepared for his fate. He was about to start moving, when “Hey, Cousin!” Uranus jumped as a voice unexpectedly rang out from behind him. He spun around, only to see Neptune smiling at him. “What are you waiting for! Let’s go!”

“Don’t scare me like that mate. I was about to go anyways.” As Uranus was about to turn back around and begin their journey to the Sun, he looked Neptune up and down noticing something. “Where are your moons, Neptune?”

“Oh! They went with Triton to go make some new friends at a revolution!” Uranus looks at Neptune in confusion as he mentions a revolution of some sort, and wonders if his moons were there. He shakes off the thought quickly however, taking the use of the word revolution just Neptune being Neptune, misinterpreting things. But he was glad to the least he wouldn't have to suffer alone.

“Let’s just go mate, we don’t wanna be too late.”

Earth and Luna were the first to arrive being a tad bit groggy from their short nap. Sun felt a pang of guilt as he watched him approach, really taking in the condition of Earth. This was the second time in a short bit of time that Earth was placed in danger, each time Sun was unable to do anything about it and this time he actually got hurt. Earth and Luna took their place next to the rest of the rocky planets, Mars and earth both shouting each other ashamed and remorseful glances, neither saying a word to the other.

The Sun watched as Jupiter and Saturn pulled up next with every moon in the solar system following behind. He felt his anger levels rise as he just wanted to get it over with and end it now, but he calmed himself thinking about Mercury’s words and how they might have reacted if he had done that. That didn’t stop Luna and Venus sending over their glares at them, Luna was in a defensive position in front of Earth, as if to protect him if anything were to happen.

Uranus and Neptune were the last of the bunch to arrive, being the farthest out of all his planets. When Uranus had noticed all his moons in the crowd next to Jupiter and Saturn, his eyes widened in surprise. Had they decided those two were better planets then him, was a thought that rang out in his mind. He had tried to open his mouth to speak to them, but Sun beat him to the punch, his own booming voice completely over taking Uranus’s voice.

“Moons and Planets separate! Moons on the left! Planets on the right!” Well, that completely ruined his chances to talk to them. He and Neptune move to the right side with the rest of the planets, as all the moons, including his, move to the left. Most every giant wondered why Sun was including their moons in a meeting and why they had to be separated.

Sun looked as everyone moved, most everyone confused as to what was going on. He took note how Luna stayed on the planet side, but allowed it to go on, figuring based on what he just saw and the fact that his planet was one of the planets involved in that so-called revolution, Luna was not involved in this attack.

“Ehem,” Sun clears his throat, and slowly closes his eyes, talking in the calmest voice he could muster up in a situation like this. “It has come to my attention that there has been some discord in my Solar System between planets and moons.” While the Giant planets were confused, practically all the moons knew what this was about already and fear started to course through their surface. “AND, that most of the moons decided to, ATTACK THREE OF MY PLANETS!” Sun twisted his head to the right and opened his eyes left looking at moons, pissed, as his eye twitched and he smiled.

“However,” He looks towards the right at the planet's side. “I have heard of planets mistreating their moons. So…” Sun repositions himself in the middle, throwing his hands up and smiling like a mad man as he yells these next few words. “WE WILL HAVE A TRIAL!” He looks between both sides. “Moons and Planets, gather three of your kind to do most of the talking and represent your case! Move forward when you have picked your three. You have two minutes!”

“This is working out perfectly.” When Sun had allowed the respective groups to separate, Europa had been quick to move and have a private conversation with Ganymede. “Now that the Sun knows about the planets mistreated towards us, he can finally help us gain the respect we deserve!”

“Yeah, you're right babe!” Ganymede, who was somewhat worried earlier about this whole trial, realized that this could actually work out for them if they played their cards right. “All we need to do is show the Sun how unjustly the planets have been treating us and and once he makes the verdict, there would be absolutely nothing the others could do about it, considering Sun is the leader and the biggest one of them all.”

The two get out of their little group huddle, and move to the front of all the moons, to announce their next step. “Me and Ganymede will represent the moons, however, we need one more moon to join us in order for this to work.” However, not a single moon moves up to offer themselves to be seen at the front of this revolution, wary of the Sun, especially now that the time has officially come.

“I’ll do it.” Titan moves up to the front with Ganymede and Europa, much to the surprise of them and practically every other moon here. He looks at Ganymede and Europa and brings his voice down to a whisper, glaring at Europa and Ganymede the whole way through. “You two have already got us in deep enough trouble as is. This is our last chance to actually get something out of this. So let’s work together one last time and try to not mess this up.”

Europa rolls her eyes and Ganymede was ready to rebuttal Titan’s words but Europa clapped a hand over his mouth. As much as she hated to admit it, no other moon was going to move up and they were running out of time. Fighting with him would be completely pointless to her, so she just grabs Ganymede’s arm and moves up. Titan crosses his arms over his chest.

“Wait, wait, wait,” Jupiter says one hand over his forehead as he moves forward contemplating what information was just thrown at them. “My moons attacked you?” He looked up at the rocky planets and Luna and he put extra emphasis on ‘attacked’ as if he straight up couldn't believe they would do such a thing. He knew they could be a bit over the top and dramatic, but attacking other celestial bodies was a whole other step for them.

“Titan would never do such a thing!” Saturn was taken back by the information he was just given too, as the planets, not adding Uranus and Neptune, got in a huddle, he put a hand to chest. “He’s the kindest moon I could ever ask for, he’d never hurt an earthling, much less a planet! This must be some sort of misunderstanding that he got wrapped up in.”

Uranus and Neptune hadn’t joined in the questioning, Neptune hadn't looked much in the crowd and figured his moons were off with Triton somewhere else. He knew Triton would NEVER let them get roped into something like this. Meanwhile, Uranus was surprised that his moons, more specifically Titania went off and did that, but he figured that he simply didn’t fit into the conversation and blamed himself for the fact that they went and attacked planets out of the fear he caused them. He figured the rocky planets would also blame him for it too, considering it was ‘all his fault’ so best to stay unnoticed.

“Well, I'd love to burst both of your bubbles, so yeah, they did.” Venus was irritated with them not being able to control their moons and how quick they were to ‘defend’ them. “How do you think we got like this? Playing peekaboo!?” He uses hand signs to mock them as if they were stupid, getting Saturn emotional and Jupiter annoyed.

Mercury, always having to be the peacekeeper, stepped in before anything else was said. “Look, we don’t have the time to be fighting or asking questions right now. Right now we have to focus on picking representatives for this trial.” He gestures to Sun who yells they have one minute left. “How about me, Venus and Earth’s Moon represent our side? Considering Venus was attacked, I have no moons, and Earth’s Moon is a moon himself so he would have a better perspective to this.”

Venus raises an eyebrow as to why he didn’t just pick Mars since he was also a victim. Mercury takes notice of this and glances back toward Mars and Earth, and Venus upon looking back too and seeing how the two were acting around each other and how they were just acting in general, he immediately understands. “Alright then, Me, pipsqueak, and Earth’s moon over there will lead.”

“Alright, then. Does everyone have their representatives!?” Titan, Ganymede, and Europa move forward on the left and nod. Mercury, Luna and Venus do the same. Sun looks between the two of them taking in both of their confirmations.

“Then let the Solar System Trials BEGIN!”

Notes:

Guys, I SWEAR, the trial, the actual trial will be all next chapter. I got a little bit lazy with the ending because I didn't want to spend 1,000 words each on each group picking a representative. Also because I need to go to sleep.

Hope you all enjoyed your last piece of content for a 2 weeks! ☺️

Chapter 5: Part One of the Solar System Trials: The moons make really good points but they're also hypocrites

Summary:

This is the Moons part of the Solar System Trials before the Planets with the aftermath of the trial

Notes:

So, you know how I keep promising the full trial? Well... This isn't it. It's just the moons argument.

I am so sorry for this in advance, I was debating if I should withhold this or not till I finished the full thing but three things just lead me to say fuck it, and give you this now. One, it's been over a month and knowing me, it'll take another month if not more to finish the entire chapter. Two, this chapter is already about 5,827 words and if I did the whole thing it would be over 10,000 word I might guess, also with the conclusion even longer(?) which could be a bit to digest in one whole chapter. Three, I didn't want to procrastinate over this any longer, and if I had to format 10,000 word on my PHONE, copy and pasting then italicized and bold, it would have been a pain.

So, take this version of the Solar System trials under a different circumstances and attempted different point of views with a grain of salt, knowing you'll be left on a cliffhanger.

[I barely read this over cause it's late so expect mistakes, but do tell me so I can fix it if it's a big, noticable one.]

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

“So, moons, since you’re the,” Sun pauses and clears his throat, looking down on Ganymede, Europa, and Titan. “ Attackers. ” His eyes and surface pops at the word, sending a slight shiver down the three representatives' cores. “I want you to go first and explain your side of this revolution.”

There’s a silence between the three representatives, Europa shooting glares at Titan, to tell him to speak. Titan sighed, pushing up and looking the Sun dead in his eyes. “I’ve looked up to Earth for a while now. I was in awe of how a planet could sustain life, and I admired and looked up to him.” Titan hesitated while speaking, but his voice still held some of the passion front the past, when everything was so simple, before that stupid revolution. When he talks again however, his voice becomes more glum and dejected. “When I had met him however, he wasn’t exactly how I saw him to be. He–”

Europa cuts Titan off, moving up herself to finish the story, not wanting to deal with Titan’s dilly dallying and excuses. Her voice was cold and determined as she spoke.  “When it was revealed that Titan had shared similar features with Earth, the Earth had started to act rude and inconsiderate. He didn’t want a moon to be on the same level as a planet so,” She tore her eyes off of the Sun and turned her wrathful gaze toward Earth, who looked guilty. “He said, ‘Moons should know their place.’”

As Europa spat those words out, all the giants of the solar system were put in their own sense of surprise. Saturn gasped, feeling upset that something like this was said to his precious, precious, Titan. He had looked down to Earth, not wanting to believe that he said it, but for once in his life, he actually read the room and had a deep pit inside his stomach that said it was true. He wanted to reach out to Titan and to comfort him, but he wasn’t even looking his way. So he just remained there silently, his eyes downcast.

Uranus was agape that the ‘golden planet of the Solar System’ would go and say such a thing. He hadn’t ever personally met the planet himself, being so far out, but from what he assumed, a planet much better than himself, this wasn’t it. He is still better than you idiot, at least he didn’t tell his moons he was gonna kill them. Uranus, glanced at his moons upon one of his intrusive thoughts, he could have sworn Titania was looking at him. But he could never be too sure, abruptly looking away before the prolonged eye contact could begin.

Jupiter, was and looked disappointed and sad that Earth had said such a thing. He nodded his head in disapproval, “Earth…” He had mumbled out, but as he glanced at the planet in question he felt even more concern churn around in his core and surface. What he said was rude, sure, but how did it lead to all this?

“Mmm…” Sun allows the silence to remain between the two sides. He looks between the moons and the planets, his eyes scanning between the two sides taking in each and every reaction with extreme precision. His eyes ultimately land on the planet's side or more specially Earth, speaking with a slight tenderness that he unequivocally didn’t give the moons.  “Is this true?”

“Yes… I-” Earth sputters and suspends his speaking, looking down at his ‘ruined’ surface as a result of the revolution. The ash clouds still remained over his surface, and he felt it by now that all his earthlings were dead. “I didn’t mean to. I… didn’t want this to happen.” He clenched his hands and shut his mouth, making an awkward silence laid over them all.

Sun, seeing that Earth was finished with his turn speaking, not wanting to let the unnecessary attention drag on to the poor planet, he spoke, his voice booming and grabbing the attention of all those around him. “Alright, may the defense of the planets move up? NOW!” He watched as the three moved in front of them, shooting glances between the three. “What do you have to say about that?”

“Everything that was said was true.” Luna pays no mind to Venus and Mercury as he quickly pulls up the front of the two. He remained on the point at hand, to defend and honor his planet. “However, as his moon and the person that is always by his side, I know what he said was not of malicious intent,” He bitterly glanced at Europa, for twisting a story she does even know the full truth of. “But insecurity. He wasn’t afraid of a moon getting on a planet's level, he was afraid of someone, anyone, becoming more special than him and him losing his friends because he didn’t realize,” Luna voice softens as he talks out the next few words, staring at Earth was looked back mildly surprised in return. “He already was and still is special enough.”

Mercury cuts his bickering with Venus as Luna talks, then directs his attention to the Sun. “To further add on to Earth’s moon point,” Luna allows Mercury’s use of his incorrect name to slide over him, considering that he wasn’t there during Earth’s whole speech and he would just correct him on the sidelines. “Earth has already learned his lesson and suffered for what he did, then,” He glanced over at Earth and his current condition, his voice is somber. “and now.”

“Whether he mentions it here or not is his choice,” Venus raises an eyebrow at Mercury's words, confused on how Earth had suffered earlier. But he remains quiet, deciding not to press the matters, at least not now. “But at the end of the day, I'd assume the matter is resolved?” Mercury looks at Titan who simply nods at him. Mercury then redirects his attention to the Sun. “So it wasn’t necessary to attack him.”

“Besides, the issue was between Earth and Titan. Not the rest of you Moons. ” Venus added extra aggressive emphasis on ‘moons,’ pointing an accusing finger at not only Ganymede, Europa, and Titan, but his gaze and fingers also went to all the moons ‘hiding’ behind him. Europa rolled her eyes in annoyance while Ganymede stood by his girlfriend standing with his hand crossed against his chest as per usual. “And not the rest of us. You moons went off of vague information to start a revolution, dragging multiple people along who had nothing to do with it. Keep your problems to yourself or have enough confidence to deal with the thing that was causing it.”

As Venus spat that out, Mercury nervously chuckled as the moons started to stare at the three, some a hint of remorse but a lot of the others shooting a whole range of dirty looks. Mercury turned his timid and anxious chuckle into one heavy sigh. “While it could have been phrased nicer,” Mercury shoots an exasperated glimpse at Venus who rolls his eyes at the notion. “Venus does indeed make a point. You guys have gone off of what could have simply been a rumor to start a revolution. And you indeed drag Venus, Mars, and Earth into it for no to little reason and evidence.”

“Is that all?” Sun asks and a silence hangs between them. The three planets' representatives nod, backing up to their original spot in the trial. Titan was about to speak, attempting to bring the attention off the revolution, while Ganymede was going to rebuttal their statement. However, Europa assertively grabs both of them by their arms, stopping the words in their mouth as she silently stares at Sun, and he takes it as a signal to continue.

“SO!” Sun's attention goes to the moon's side of the ‘court space’, his voice remaining loud and high pitched as always, his mere gaze being a threat to whomever he turned it too, especially when he was mad. And right now he was mad. “Based on what I'm hearing, you started a revolution IN MY SOLAR SYSTEM, harming MY planets,” The moons where lucky Sun couldn’t from his place where he forever stood in the solar system, for in fear of, well, y’know. He was barely controlling himself not to just shoot a solar flare at them, ALL OF THEM!  “Over. five. words.”

“Well, that’s…” Europa moves up, hardly fazed by the Sun’s hatred and outburst towards them. At the moment her eyes were going back to seemingly nothing. “Incorrect, Sun.” She shakes her head before, just for a quick moment, she looks at Luna, a sly smile on her face. She then diverts her focus to Sun, the small smile on her face disappearing as she awaits Sun's reaction to what she just said.

“And what exactly are you implying by that…?”  Sun voice was low and cold (Or should I say hot! Ha! Ha… I’m losing my shit). A wave of his burning, boiling, air radiating onto the three, hitting Europa the most but she stood her ground. He didn’t do anything except stare waiting for one of the three to answer him. He HATED to be questioned.

“You planets are starting at the beginning of the revolution and blaming that single instance for our actions,” Europa was calm and collected as she spoke, eyes, never for a second, leaving the Sun. Ganymede and then Titan moving by her side, seeing as Sun didn’t stop nor interject her. “Yet, there were multiple other events that happened before that, that actually led to us starting and joining a revolution against planets. What was being brought up earlier was just an oversimplification.”

“Care to explain these events…?” Sun's voice turns to normal as he backs off, looking down to Europa. Titan was very surprised by this, moons like Europa were actually helping to save this trial and hopefully bring it back in the right direction. He couldn’t believe it for a solid couple of seconds. However, he shook his head and brushed off the thoughts, figuring they’d probably mess up somewhere else in the trial.

“There are issues we moons have had with our planets for a long time before this revolution, starting with Saturn, where most of these moons came from.” She gestures to all the moons floating behind her before turning back to Sun. “Titan and the rest of his moons had learned that Saturn’s rings were the product of dozens of moons getting destroyed.” Her voice held genuine sympathy for the moons that could have had to deal with injustice and currently be disrespected as their corpses were used for another's benefit and beauty.

“Objection!” Luna cuts into Europa’s little speech, bringing all attention onto him. His eyes harden as he looks into Europa’s who, as far as one could see, wasn’t amused nor surprised by his action. “From what I heard, that was only an earthling theory and is yet to be proven. And under the circumstances that you caused now,” His voice held not only irritation and displeasure towards the opposing side, but also a sense of guilt and remorse for the earthlings he also cared for. “I doubt it will ever be verified as the truth or not.”

Earth began to get glum at the mentions of his dead earthlings. With a hand held to his chest, he takes a moment to reminisce on all the moments he shared with them, zoning out everything around him. The pain, the fun, their ideas and constant growth within his surface, to soon be taken outside of the atmosphere, to other planets, and maybe even one day the cosmos. Only to be cut off because of his carelessness.

No, he shakes his head trying to get the thought off of his mind. This wasn’t just his fault, those moons… those moons did this too. They had taken away something that truly mattered to hit, and threw the final blow. He may have said the words, yet they took the action. But still, there was this heavy feel in his core, a feeling of penitence that lingered. With a pained expression, he tried to disregard the feeling as he zoned back into the present.

“Even if it was a theory, what happens if moons start to disappear?” Europa was purposeful, her voice unwavering. She only had one goal in mind, the only reason she helped start this. She knew she had to play her cards safe, already seeing the dislike Sun had displayed for them, but also knew when and how she should say it, prepared to refute any arguments that came their way, in a manner that wasn’t overbearing but still strong. “One after the other, and suddenly Saturn's rings ‘suddenly’ get bigger and that theory is proven right. It still remains a risk.”

“Besides, even if it really is just a theory at the end of the day, that doesn’t change what Saturn did after he told them.” Ganymede adds himself back into the conversation, helping to finish his girlfriend's idea, who had been doing most of the talking up until about the topic. Saturn gets slightly confused upon hearing Ganymede’s words, as far as he thought, his moon had TOTALLY forgave him. “The moons of Saturn, had no idea what to do when Saturn had threatened and forced them to forgive him.”

Threatened them? Saturn's mouth hangs open flabbergasted and he stares at Ganymede, Titan, and the rest of his moons with an incredulous stare at the mere thought of him threatening HIS moons. He would never do that, that he was sure of and he definitely didn’t do that when he told them of the… destruction of his other moons. They were upset at first, sure but he and his WONDERFUL, AMAZING, Titan helped to clear the issue. He turned his attention back to his favorite moon, and he smiled in approval, sure that Titan would help to clear up the issue.

“Saturn,” While Sun kept his serious expression and tone, his curiosity was peaked from this allegation from the moons. As much as he didn’t like to admit it, he didn’t know his second planet that well, though from what he observed he was quite loud and a bit whiny. Nothing like his perfect Jupiter, yet they hanged out often despite his warnings on the orbits. “Is it true you destroyed your moons to form your rings and threatened them to forgive you?”

“Well, I don’t… think I did? I really hope not, I really care for my moons and I'd never do something like that on purpose!” Saturn looked and sounded remorseful, however for many people that remorse was drowned out by the way he was so defensive, so sure that he did nothing wrong. “I didn’t threaten my moons either, just ask Titan, he’s the kindest and most honest person I know! He’ll tell you the truth!”

As Saturn motions to Titan, he feels as if all eyes were falling on him, that they were whispering behind his back, talking about how he was Saturn’s ‘favorite.’ Oh, how special he was to be the only moon to have Saturn’s respect and love, yet no one else did. All of his fellow Saturnian moons had hated him for it, and now he feels like everyone else is doing the same. He knows that this is just some weird illusion that his mind is giving off to discourage him, but as the feeling in his gut only starts to grow stronger, Titan almost feels sick.

“Well,” After a few seconds of an uncomfortable silence laid over both sides of this trail, Sun spoke up. He looked down to Titan with a sense of anticipation, awaiting to find the answer to this conflict. “What do you have to say about that Titan?”

“I…” Titan knew what he had to say, it was the truth at the end of the day. But he couldn’t help but look at the desperate, pleading look in Saturn's eyes, the stare he had alway given, intentional or not when in a bad position. The stare that always had gotten Titan to follow his planet’s every word, just to keep him happy, no matter how unhappy it made him and the other moons. Then at the gaze of his fellow peers, indignantly waiting for Titan’s answer. He was used to this behavior by now, but for some reason it felt weird this time, like he was torn. He manages to tear his eyes off both sides and looks up at Sun. He hesitates for just a few seconds more, biting his lip, and taking a gulp of space.  “Yes, Saturn did threaten us after the reveal of his rings possibly being made from the corpses of his dead moons.”

Saturn's shoulders immediately slumped, a slight frown on his face as the words spilled from his treasured moon.  “Titan, what are you talking about…?” Saturn reached out to him, no matter how pointless it was because of their distance in the trails. But as Titan started to look back, up, down, anywhere he wasn’t he felt as if tears were starting to pool in his eyes, an emotion, the real genuine emotion, he hadn't felt for a long time.

As stare started to move up and behind the three representatives, to the group of moons, he was able to pick out a couple of his own moons relatively easily. All of them were staring at him and yet for some reason they felt off to Saturn, more hateful if anything. “Diane? Mime? Ensalada?” His eyes dart around to look for at least one of his moons willing to answer him, defend him, but instead he is left with silence and the harsh glares and rolling their eyes, or inaudible groans and sighs of his moons who only seemed to get worse when he called out their ‘names.’

“And that brings up another issue I've seemed to stumble upon, names.” Europa’s voice and expression was soft, yet it had a chilling feeling to it, that in this tornado that was destroying so many foundations and lives, lied the eye, and she was it. “Titan, you're closest to Saturn and also have seen the things he does the most, care to explain?”

“Well,” Titan takes a moment to recover ‘randomly’ being put on spot, the pained stare that Saturn had given them, lingered in his mind. “Saturn… often messes up the names of all his moons, except me and this has been going on since we met him. They’d try to correct him but… they would always end up with knock-off names instead of their real ones.”

“And,” Europa was practically carrying this trail at this point, adding herself back into it with the same passion, yet calm as before. “To add to that, he seems to know every single planet's name, who are all bigger than… most of his moons.” Her voice takes on a tad bit more playful tone at the end, adding extra emphasis on ‘most,’ heavily implying she was holding back some information. She peers back at Ganymede to signal what she was trying to say.

It takes Ganymede less than a second to register what Europa was saying, he nods, a slight smirk on his face. “Except… Titan!” Titan almost jumps at the statement, finally realizing where the two were trying to take this, putting blame on him as of right now, to further their point. “I, being the biggest moon, have a radius of 1,635 miles. Titan, has a radius of 1,600 miles.” Ganymede puffed out his chest, prideful, as he talked about himself and his size, his tone calming down as he spoke about Titan, merely pointing at him. “Those are both bigger than the smallest planet, Mercury, which has a radius of only 1,516 miles.” Mercury shrivels back at Ganymede’s statement, he already knew it was true but to be outed like that, about his SIZE of all things, he already had gotten bullied enough, in front of the Solar System only doubled his insecurities.

“It just so happens that Saturn respects the only moon that could match up with the size of a planet.” Europa looks Sun dead in the eye, she was being bold by doing this now, but she knew the risk of it all from the start. “That’s because that’s all that matters to him, size. All his other smaller moons were discarded and ignored.” She clenches her fists and as she goes on, there are slight hints of anger, venom leaking into her voice. “Titan, happened just to be a couple miles bigger than a planet, so he got respect, the others didn’t.”

“Well, that’s just a load of bullshit.” Venus interrupts, rolling his eyes at Europa’s statement. “He may mess up y’all’s names but implying he did it with evil intent is just the most absurd thing i've heard.” He gestures to Saturn without even looking at him, the other hand crossed over his chest.  “He quite literally is the definition of a crybaby, even more that pipsqueak over here.” Mercury sighs at Venus' little remark towards him, but nonetheless remains quiet. “He probably just favors Titan for some reason I couldn’t care less about.”

“There could be some truth to Saturn just liking Titan more for some reason, but we wouldn’t know unless he’s willing to share it?” Mercury stayed quiet for a couple of seconds to see as if Saturn would explain himself, but not a peep came from him so Mercury continued. “From what I just saw, I can assume the three names he called out earlier were incorrect. And I don’t really know if it’s close to their real names or not, but it is a clear effort of him trying and essentially caring about the smaller moons.”

“So, Titan, my next question goes to you.” Titan felt as if his core was constricting and all the heat was leaving it as Mercury brought the attention on him. “Did you or any of the other moons try to be up front with Saturn about his actions?” In the background, a couple of Saturn moons pondered this question, the answer immediately dawning upon them. Some too prideful, too angry to admit their mistakes, what else were they meant to do against Saturn? The same planet they were willing to talk behind his back and yell at him. Others felt a sense of remorse and many conflicting feelings about it. They had known Saturn for years, how dense he could be, they even made jokes about it. It was annoying when he had called them false names, but how could they have ever expected him to realize himself. “I can understand where you might assume he’s being cruel if you had told him to his face multiple times, but other than correcting him have any of you actually told him you were tired of him messing up your names?”

“I…” Titan’s eyes hardly even made it to Saturn before he had to tear them away to look back at Mercury, but even then he could hardly make eye contact with Mercury the whole time he spoke. “No… We had never told him directly.”

“Does that even matter?” Ganymede doesn’t even bother to look at anyone while talking, flicking his wrist up in the air. “They had actively corrected him for billions of years, what you're implying is that he was so dense he didn’t even get the memo already.” But under his breath he mumbles ‘how funny that would have been if true,’ silently snickering.

“Look, we don’t really know Saturn, I'm not his moon and we're pretty far away from him in the inner Solar System. Even so, that doesn’t change the fact that most of you did the same thing.” Luna’s hand makes a circle around the moons on the adjacent of them, accentuating his words when calling them out on doing the same thing. “Calling me Earth’s moon, when my name’s Luna, calling Phobos and Deimos asteroids, constantly messing up Uranus’s name.”

“I can and will admit, between the constant of the whole moon revolution and the things that were happening between, there weren’t many times I could have corrected you and told you my proper name and you just had to go for the next best thing, which turned out to be Earth’s moon Earth’s moon.” Luna can feel some annoyance riding up at the thought, they still could have just asked his name or come up with something better, but it was over now. “And from what I heard, Phobos and Demos were only called asteroids once, before this whole revolution. However, that does change the fact that most of you pronounce Uranus, like… Ur-anus.” This pronunciation earns a couple snicker down back, but they were all from the younger ones this time around so no attention was paid towards it, except Uranus who felt like he was melting at the mention and the laughing.

“I’ll admit I have had one or two laughs at the joke, but I wasn’t the one who made that big of a deal about the incorrect name you gave me.” “How come that when your names are mispronounced, you make a whole fuss on it and are allowed to be upset about it yet, when it’s a planet,” “It’s okay because it’s just a joke, even though the planet the joke is on clearly doesn’t like it.”

Something had been said after it, but Saturn wasn’t even paying that much attention to it anymore. A storm of emotions going through him, some conflicting with the others. All this he hadn’t known about his moons, all the pain he had caused them, and he hadn’t even realized. He had tried to learn their names, he had thought that they were fine with what he had been calling them. But apparently he was bad? He had been mistreating them this whole time. They hadn’t felt they could come to him about their problems and they could talk, so instead they talked behind his back and he hadn’t even noticed.

They thought he had favored Titan more? Sure, he had been the only name he got FULLY correct, and he was the only moon he had noticed originally go missing, but… that wasn’t favoritism was it? But rummaging through his memories some more, the more awareness came to him, about this to the least. He had always treated Tian better than the others and that had made them feel unloved. But he did love them, he cared for them, it was just that Titan… Titan was different. But now, he was against him too.

With a downhearted expression he turned back into his surroundings, and while his gaze still mostly fell on Titan, it also came onto the other moons he could spot in the crowd. Just looking at the way they looked at him, he wanted to run off and cry, however he just bit his lip holding in whatever emotion he wanted to let out. He knew that after this trial, he would ask for their forgiveness again, and hopefully find a way to mend his relationship with Titan and the rest of them.

“Silence! I’ve had enough of this back and forth,” Sun interrupted something that Ganymede and Luna were fighting over, his loud and high pitched voice shutting up everyone instantly. He turned his celestial radiant body toward the three moon representatives.  “Is there anything else the moons would like to say unrelated to this topic about the planet’s or are. you. Done?

“Well, no.” Europa takes a step forward closer to Sun. “There are a few other issues that I feel we need to address before you come to your conclusion, the next one being the hurtful and deeming comment that our planets make without a second thought, Juptiper and Uranus being the main subject of this.”

“Just before we went out to find Titan, because he had been hiding out in the asteroid belt at this point and Saturn was absolutely losing his mind, and both us Jupiter’s moons and Saturnian moons were getting tired of it. And who wouldn’t mind a little ‘adventure,’ being stuck in our orbits all the time.” Sun internally laughed at this, being in one’s orbit provided safety and was plenty of fun! He was proud that his biggest planet was following in his footsteps, and being a great role model. “So, right after we asked Jupiter, he mentioned how it wouldn’t matter if we left because we were too small to have an effect on him.” She spoke, anger slipping into her voice as she went on. “I could just see it on his face, the way he said nothing afterwards, he didn’t have a second thought about what he said. He made an insensitive comment and brushed it off as nothing.”

Jupiter nervously looked up to his moon, surprised by this revelation. To him, this was far out of character for Europa or Ganymede, surely they must have known he just wanted to answer their question honestly, not to be rude. He wanted to at least apologize for that and anything else he had done to them, but once glance at the Sun told him he should do it later, after the trial and after he scolds them about this whole situation.

“Then, sometime in the revolution, didn’t you mention something about Uranus and his moons?” Ganymede looks and smirks at Titan, accidentally pronounces Uranus’s name wrong, which really didn't help to support their claim. Europa almost slaps herself at the move, but keeps herself at bay, slightly hitting Ganymede’s arm away from peering eyes.

“Yes, when I saw them, Titania and the others were hiding in fear of Uranus in the Kupiter belt.” Titan slowly nods, turning his head away from Ganymede and back to the Sun. “They told me Uranus had talked about turning them into rings, but were unsure if it was a joke or not, but didn’t want to take any risks. They came back with me after Uranus had found us.”

“Do you have something to say, Uranus?” Sun asked, absentmindedly ignoring Jupiter, and whatever was said about him. Whether he had his doubts that his star planet would ever do such a thing, or he didn’t care was a matter for a different time. Right now he focused on his second farthest planet, a planet he had never known, too far away for the Sun to pay attention too.

“Titania, Ariel, Umbriel, Miranda, Oberon… Everyone, I am so, so, so, Sorry. ” Uranus had memorized his apology script a couple times, even re-writing it a few… hundred times. Yet, as the time came, his stupid, stupid, mind was pulling a blank, yelling so many things about how he was a bad person, instead focusing on the more important topic at hand.  “I… I didn’t mean too… I-I thought it was just a joke.” Uranus cursed himself for being an idiot the second the words had fully left his mouth. “I know I shouldn’t have joked about it at all and how it might have hurt you, and this is all my fault, and you probably won’t forgive me…” He rambles on and on, but as he looks back into their eyes, Titania’s eyes, his core gets heavier and he cuts himself off, only to repeat what he said at the start. “But, I'm so sorry for saying that...”

“Uranus I….” Titania's voice was soft, yet loud enough that the crowd, more importantly Uranus, could hear her, her hand shakily rising, only making it halfway to reaching out to Uranus before getting interrupted by Europa.

“And that proves my point. He thought that ‘killing his moons for RINGS’ was a joke .” Europa's voice was solemn, yet hateful, pouring just a little bit more emotion into the joke than the rest. “Even now, he only held the decency to apologize when put on the spot. It took him far too long to realize what he said was harmful.”

As a silence hung over them for just a few seconds, Europa had thought this was it, she was holding the upper hand, making her, their, point clear, the planets were the ones at the wrong, the ones to blame. That was still the red, hot headed planet just had to speak.

“So? What Jupiter had said to you was true, you are too SMALL to have an effect on them.” Venus had said nonchalantly, like it was a matter of fact, mostly because it was.“That's like saying if us rocky planets were to disappear, that would affect the entire solar system.” Venus purposely widens his eyes, looking up, spreading his arms up too. There was this sort of tone, emphasis in his voice, but it took no genius to tell it was fake and forced. He pauses for a couple seconds before looking back at the 3 representatives in front of him, a hand on his hip. “But it wouldn't because we're too small, just as you're too small to have an effect on Jupiter.”

Something had flashed upon Ganymede’s face as size was mentioned, and he quickly raised his hand to say something to counter what Venus had said, but Luna had already begun to talk. “And while what Uranus may have said was inconsiderate,” Luna pushes up as closest to the three as he spoke, quick and determined.“But how was he supposed to apologize to his moon earlier if they were hiding from him and were at the revolution most of the time.”

“We can sympathize with them for running away, they were threatened, even as a joke. But Uranus was given no other chance to apologize but now. And with Jupiter, while it can be interpreted as mean, it was the truth.” Mercury motions to himself, as he says this next sentence. “Being called the smallest planet can hurt, it can be embarrassing, but it's honest, and I can't deny that.”

For about the third time from the beginning of this trial another tense tranquility filled the trial ‘room.’ Sun, silently looked back and forth between the two divided groups once more. “Are the moons done sharing their side of the story?” His voice loud and powerful as always overtaking the space. Europa, without any more words left to say, nods. “Well then, Planets!” He calls out, a crazed smile on his face, “Come forth and share your side of this story.”

Venus, Luna, Mercury and move forward and as Mercury opens his mouth, let the first part come to a close. The moons had made their point, what shall their planets say? Will it sway the tides in their favor, even if they have it already? Who knows. Let’s find out next time.

Notes:

SO, what to say... What to say...

Um... I apologize again for taking so long, I actually had to plan out what they were gonna say on a different doc and that took about 2 weeks, then a dumb amount of school, homework, and writer's block hit me in the face.

I tried to include other people, in the sidelines into perspective. Cause they're all so silly. (I love making Sun petty as fuck) Sorry, I neglected the moons and Neptune (When it comes to writing characters like Venus, Ganymede, Sun, Luna, ect, I wanna cry), I just was clueless what to do with them. Speaking of Neptune, I tried to get an argument against all the Giant, but within terms of canon, Neptune's issue would only be known by him and Uranus, plus their moons. And unluckily for the plot, no one was gonna say anything for the planet's side and Neptune's moons are too young and Uranus moon's just want this over with.

I had Europa take the lead more because, she always gave me the vibes that she was more prepared, ready for whatever would happen afterwards. She whole hearty believe what they did was right, and based on Europa's personality she would have what they were fighting against already in her mind.

Luna and Venus are acting like a bitch because one is angry for their planet, the other is just angry for the injustice they faced.

Titan and Saturn was a fun situation. As well as Uranus.

Ganymede... No comment.

Sun = fun but I felt like I couldn't decide on a personality.

Mercury, the planet who single handly holds together this solar system.

Honestly, the next chapter will most likely take a month or more so... do whatever you want with a the content I gave you for now. 🙃

Chapter 6: Solar System Trials, Part 2: Planet's Return The Kindness and The Final Finish?

Summary:

Venus angry. Luna upset (and needs a fucking nap), Saturn and Jupiter depressed gays that I can't actually make gay, Sun deranged and favoritism, Neptune: Disappears, Uranus insecurities, Europa tired of the boys, Ganymede and Titan: STOP, And Mercury is just trying to hold all this shit together (with little avail) and handing out free therapy.

Notes:

I'm finally finished, and the week early too. This is about 9,775 words (7,400 is the trial, the rest is conclusion)

Not much to say about this one, but it might go OOC, especially for Mercury later one in... You'll know when you'll see it. I just had him empathize with them more than a canon basically. Europa could be a possible one, and Saturn but everyone else should be fine.

The ending might feel a little rushed, but I was trying to do it parallel to the original and the way they ended it or, 'purposes.' I'll stop talking now, hope you enjoy!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Mercury moves up closest to the Sun, unfazed by the blazing heat. “While we can understand and accept your–” Mercury was cut off by a mumble, ‘I can’t,’ from both Venus and Luna in unison, both rolling their eyes at the same time too. Mercury drags his hands against his face, rolling his eyes back and huffs at their actions. He clears his throat and looks back at the moons. “While I can understand and accept your intentions, your whole point to this revolution, I can not condone your actions.”

“The first and one of the main ones being the violent attack on Mars and Venus.” Somewhere in the back someone, probably Saturn, gasped. The Giants had just now really noticed how ruffed up Mars and Venus had looked. Sure, it was definitely better than before but there’s only so much a few hours of ‘healing’ can do to a planet’s surface. Even after Saturn’s whole ‘breakthrough’ he still only hoped that Titan held no part in it. Jupiter already had a pretty good idea of who the culprits were, as much as the old man didn’t want to admit it. Uranus was half into this conversation, drowning in his insecurities with his earlier conversation with Titania and Neptune wasn’t even paying attention.

“When me and Earth’s–... Luna had found them in the asteroid belt, they were barely conscious, and there were multiple asteroid dents lying on their surface. No clue how long they were left like that or how much damage it actually did.” For reference, Mercury had gestured to Venus’s still visible, asteroid carters, at which he sulked even more at, glaring at Europa, Ganymede and Titan. “Just upon staring I thought they were dead, but on their condition and how unmoving they were.”

“Venus and Mars were unaware of the revolution and I'm sure you all knew that.”  Luna burst into the conversation, with such high levels of ferocity directly towards Ganymede and Europa. He cocked his head to the side, pointing at both of them, the glare his sent their way as sharp as daggers. He wasn't yelling, and yet the low tone he had was as cold as ice, enough to send a shiver down anyone's back. “I’m not sure what level of common sense you possessed but you guys attacked planets who had nothing to do with the revolution. Even earlier, you said nothing about what Mars and Venus had done to you or how they disrespected moons, that's because they didn’t.”   He hissed the last two words, the extra weight put on them combined with the silence coming after, left an unsettling feeling to many people in this trial. “Hell, Mars even defended you, Titan more specially, when Earth had said that.”

“That’s only because Venus and Mars had a falling out with Earth, it was rightful of us to assume that recruiting them to the revolution was a good idea.” Europa tried to counter-attack Luna’s statement with just as much passion as he held, swinging her hand across the space before bringing that same hand to her chest. “Sure, they didn’t want to, but the only reason we went through with the attack was because they had threatened us and it was our only option to defend ourselves. We worked so hard, we couldn’t allow everything to go into flames there.” Her originally opened palms that lied in front of her, closed in an aggressive motion, to demonstrate as a visual.  “Besides, one act of ‘kindness’ doesn’t define a planet, Luna. ”

“We had offered them a second chance, a chance to join us, and yet they said no, so we did what we had to do.” Ganymede’s voice was firm and powerful, nevertheless if you looked just a little bit deeper, maybe, just maybe, you could hear the hesitation and insecurity that clung to it. “The asteroids weren't even fatal to them anyways, we made sure of that. There are only so many asteroids in the asteroid belt big enough to kill a planet and we had none of them. So, they may have been injured, but they wouldn’t have ever died.” He brushes it off, even chuckling with a prideful smile, or was it a nervous smile instead(?), when he mentioned the word death as if it was some joke.

“So, just because it wasn’t fatal, it’s fine??” While phrased like a question, Venus’s to be definitely otherwise. The laughter had only shattered the dam of lava just waiting to pour down upon them, but he had tried to rein it in and control himself (with little avail, but in this situation and Venus, little can mean a lot). “How about I pummel YOU with asteroids till you're unconscious and can’t move and see how ‘fine’ you are afterwards.” He was steamed, figuratively and literally, being one of the hottest planets afterall.

“First things first, you met up with me and Mars privately and when we unexpectedly refused to attack a fellow planet and kill his lifeforms. You tried to get us at a point of… vulnerability,” The last word came out like a mumble, a whisper, something Venus hated to admit, something Venus preferred to leave in the past. “Thinking that would work to your plans. And when that failed and you were confronted you called over two hundred moons for two planets to come and hide your dumbass decision.”

“It was wrongful to assume over a ‘friendship’ disagreement that we would attack someone.” Friendship… It felt wrong on his lips, Earth was actually friends with Mars, not him, never him. “We had never threatened you, other than telling you how we planned to stop you. You threatened us, when you gave us another opportunity to join you, lest the asteroid attack continues.”  Venus moved up towards them and bent down to their level, getting right into their face. He does air quotation marks with his hands, taking on a mocking tone in between his irritated one. “And your hard work wouldn’t have been ruined, and you wouldn’t have had to ‘defend yourself’ if you kept your little plans and issues between you little moons.” He takes a step back, hands on his chest before proceeding to take a deep breath. “At the end of the day, it was one rocky planet, three if we joined, against hundreds of moons, all holding an asteroid. There’s only so long we can dodge and fight back before one is bound to hit us. You already had the winning odds, so by no means did you need us.”

Europa this time around was speechless. She had to bite her tongue to avoid her from saying anything, because what was there to say? As much as she didn’t want to admit it, Venus had made some valid points, ignoring the fact that he had called them little. They hadn’t needed them, and this whole situation was a huge oversight on her side of this story, she should have gathered more information before acting. She knew this would be a huge blow to their point, but all she can do now is hope that they and the points they made remained strong in the Sun’s eyes, and get through with the rest of the trial.

“Assuming you three were the leaders, right?” Sun’s gaze moves in between Ganymede, Europa, and Titan, but he doesn’t await their answer. He already knew what they would respond with, it was clear as day by now. “And who were the moons involved in this attack?” While he was sitting, not standing, to not alter the foundation of the Solar System by accident but mostly avoided back pains. Regardless of what position he was and always would be much bigger than any moon, his back straight as he looked down upon the moons, even if it was just a normal stare, it remained menacing because of his height, and Sun himself knew that for sure.

“Just Jupiter’s and Saturn’s moons. Me and Ganymede had recruited them earlier.” Ganymede looks at Europa in surprise, and he wasn’t the only moon doing so. The moons in the back, gasped and mummered mixed feelings about how Europa had just thrown them under the bus to the SUN. Europa paused and glanced at Ganymede, and there was a sense of desperation, a plea, an expression Ganymede had never thought to see on his girlfriend before, for him to just keep quiet, so he clamped his mouth shut. “Titan, Io, and Callisto were busy finding Uranus’s and Neptune’s moons. It took longer considering the distance between them and the asteroid belt after all. I didn’t see much of a point in waiting for them.”

It was one thing to hear it from somebody else, vague details and whispers, cruel and twisted rumors that remained unconfirmed and ‘unclear.’ Yet to hear if from the lips of one of his moons, his Galilean moons, his biggest and very arguably his most responsible (in their own unique ways) moons, just felt like a stab to his back. Sure, it was already confirmed that they attacked Earth, but Jupiter didn’t believe it could grow any worse, that he could take the ‘minor’ and very few other things they might have done. Yet here he stood surprised by the actions of Ganymede, Europa, Callisto and IO too. While he was weirdly relieved that the latter two had not done much, this trial wasn’t done and the first two already had a pile of crimes already growing, who knows if they have hidden misdeeds too.

Europa, may have been the smallest of the Galleon moons but was passionate and wasn't afraid to stand her guard. She was quick witted and smart, she could be really really straightforward and brutally honest but Jupiter could see she cared , or was that something else all along, something he failed to notice? Ganymede, his largest moon with questionable Greek origins that he really had to keep asking about every June. He was bold, brave, had a bit of an ego and definitely didn’t pay that much attention to Jupiter’s lessons, but he always made himself a leader to the younger ones when Jupiter could not, but did he have to take it, use it, this way?

Callisto, laid back and chill, for all the time he knew her she always kept that nonchalant attitude. While she and Europa had fought for the most responsible position, in Jupiter’s opinion, she came out on top, having prevented them from doing some ‘stupid’ things a couple times, yet this time around, why did she allow it? Io, that sweet bundle of joy that was just pure silly chaos, his lightly colored yellow surface coming completely in par with his eccentric personality. Despite all this, he's surprisingly the one who always had listened and seemed the most invested in Jupiter's lessons, how could he have come to this, thought this is the right way?

He was disappointed and angry at them, of course, they injured planets and killed the earthlings, dragging all his other moons along for the ride, but he couldn’t help but wonder; What had made them feel this way? What made all of them feel the need to go to such violent acts to make them respected? Did he really even know them? Jupiter can understand how overbearing his warnings could be, how not all of his moons liked his lessons, he was a reckless planet to and only after… Well, let's not talk about that . Jupiter shook his head, trying to make his memories fade off of the past, and come back to what was happening now. But,... he looked at the opposing side of moons and the faces he saw, felt like he didn’t recognize them. Was it really him, was he unintentionally hurting them so much that they went against him and hurt others on the way?

Meanwhile, right next to him Saturn let out a relieved sigh, not for the majority of his moons, not for Venus and Mars are still here and recovering, but for Titan. The joy and the small amount of pride that Titan was still a ‘good’ moon, in some kind of way, by not participating in the ruthless attack on fellow planetoids. His first thought had fallen right on Titan since of the talk of the attack, as it always had, letting out a breath he hadn’t even realized he had been holding when Europa revealed Titan was elsewhere, and (hopefully) didn’t know about it. But traveling all the way back to Uranus, the temperature can really drop… Oh no, what about his atmosphere! Maybe I should–

Saturn's thoughts come to halt, Saturn taking a sharp exhale of disappointment and frustration upon registering that he had done it again, he was favoring Titan. He almost slapped himself at the concept, words and different ideas running through his head, the main one being; Why couldn’t he just get this right? He loved all his moons- he truly does! And he always thought that they had loved him right back. But now, he can see it, he was blinded by his love for Titan. He wishes to mend their relationship, share his love equally and in return, they like him too as their planet, but even now, a few minutes later he was already failing. Feeding himself excuses, trying to justify all his faults. He hadn’t even noticed the tears pooling at his eyes once more, til they were threatening to spill.

They may have done this, they might have attacked two of the rocky planets, but he had brought them to this. Treat them like that. Now Titan- now, all his moons hated him, were gonna leave him and his shortcomings were coming to bite him in the back, and he was struggling, failing to do anything to help bring them back. A hand touches his back, and it takes him a mount to register it as his best friend, Jupiter.

“Are you alright Saturn?” Jupiter had whispered in a hushed tone, just enough for Saturn to hear. Jupiter’s head remained forward but his eyes were directed at Saturn, in an attempt to avoid suspicion. He tried to look as neutral as possible there a concern etched all over his face. “You had a blank stare earlier and now you look… a bit distressed.”

“Yes… yes!” The first time he responded it was weak as if he didn’t even know what he was talking about. A few seconds later, it hits him like a truck and he blinks twice, clearing the tears from his eyes in a swift motion, his voice louder and more sure. “I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be my gassy friend?” Jupiter could just tell something was wrong with the way he reacted and responded but stayed quiet and nodded, planning to press him about it later if he saw the issue persist.

“Well, if we're finished talking about that, I wish to speak about another attack, a successful one that had killed more than millions of lifeforms,” Mercury spoke once more, a bit after Europa. He pushed up again and paused, adding one more layer to the pressure and nerves lying in this trial. “The attempt to eliminate the Earthlings and all other life on Earth.”

“There’s no other way to explain this other than plain mass murder.” Mercury moves back to his original spot, his attention leaving the Sun to look, Titan, then Ganymede, then Europa in the eye. “The intended goal of the revolution was to kill the earthlings to prove your point… and I don't really know how, but also to get your respect. And as you can see,” Mercury side stepped, opening a clearing for Earth to be clearer seen from far behind them, and motions to him, more importantly his surface. “They did just that and lives were lost. The result of 285 moons throwing an asteroid.” Earth shrinks back in regret at the mentions of his earthlings and the looks that landed on the aftermath of his surface that only brought back painful memories.

“Well, that's not entirely true.” Luna adds in before he sticks out his hand and starts to count the names, except Earth's. “Titan, Callisto and Io changed sides and joined me, Phobos and Demos in an attempt to protect Earth from the asteroids.”

“And, do you care to tell me, why would you make the planet with life your main target?” Sun looked towards the moon's side, his eyes glinting with some curiosity that got overtaken by aggravation. “You had already taken down two other of my planets, so what were you gaining by attacking the Earth?” His voice was deep, like the grumbling of a volcano waiting to explode. “How did you moon think you were gonna gain respect from all that?”

“At first, all I wanted this to be was a protest, signs and all, going against mainly the Earth, but also all the other planets.” Titan’s voice was passionate, yet timid and nervous, trying to carefully pick out his words. “I thought that way could get us respect, if we all just withdrew from our planets and showed how disrespectful they were treating us, things could have changed.” Titan’s eyes darted to Ganymede and Europa to the side of him, his expression was full of displeasure, with a sprinkle of anger. “But that was all before Ganymede and Europa came in with the idea of a revolution and swayed me that it was a good idea.”

“Oh please, Titan. Don’t sell yourself too short.” Ganymede snorts and rolls his eyes at Titan’s last sentence. He tilted his head to the side and pointed at Titan’s chest. “You willingly joined us and became one of the leaders. You too, did believe that attacking Earth would make a statement to get us respect. Don’t act so entitled now.” Ganymede grins at him, his tone becoming playful, or practically mocking at the end.

“That’s not the question I asked, now is it. It said,” Sun interrupts whatever argument they were having, his voice becoming a low growl to their ignorance. From Saturn and his moons, this behavior was expected. Jupiter, however, needed to get his moons in check. He was an exemplary planet, and to have moons like this is just an insult to his name. “HOW DID YOU THINK ATTACKING MY PLANETS, WOULD GET YOU RESPECT.”

“Well, Sun,” Europa pushes Ganymede and Titan off to the side as she pushes up and attempts to get a rein on the situation. “To us, it was simple. It was a known fact, far and wide in this that Earth was the golden boy in this Solar System, yet he treated moons no better than our planets did.” Her voice started out formal and flat, turning into a resentment, shown in tone and expression as she glanced past to what people would assume would be Earth, but no, instead, Jupiter. “So, we crushed him down a few pegs to not only humble him, but also show us moons weren’t completely helpless and are willing to defend ourselves, that we were worth more than planets saw us as and we wouldn’t be pushed over as anything less.”

“You thought… hurting my planets, injuring them beneath my radiance, my gaze, would make you respected? ” Sun pauses, before loud laughter fills the trial, coming from the great judge himself. But the laughter isn’t the happy nor kindhearted one he gives Mercury after telling his jokes, it held something far more sinister and ominous. “You forget who's really in charge here, moon .” Sun giggles once more, a crazed smile bearing all of Sun’s sharp teeth for everyone to see. “Mmm.. But, go on. That’s it? Nothing more, you did with this revolution?

Just a second of silence, before, “That’s it, for the planets.” Luna speaks up, sticking up two fingers. “However, there are two separate incidents I would like to mention that deal closely to this revolution as well. Not exactly intention, nor violent acts, but they had their impact regardless.”

“For some context, this happened at the start of the revolution, just me, Callisto, Io, Titan, Ganymede and Europa.” Luna points to each moon as best as he can, it being a somewhat struggle to find Callisto and Io in the crowd. Sun makes sure to take good note of Callisto and Io in the crowd. “They had revealed to me that they had planned to attack Earth and I tried to reason with them about the billions of life forms to no avail. Titan had luckily let me go, and I don’t really know what happened next, but minutes later I was being chased by Io and Callisto, under Ganymede’s orders.”

“They were trying to bring me back so I didn’t reveal their plans to Earth.” Luna elaborated, and the others listened in slight confusion. They may have been trying to prevent him from leaving, but that had made sense if it was only the five of them and had hardly started. Nothing about that seemed too violent. “I did throw the asteroids first and they threw them back in retaliation but that’s not the main issue.” He shakes his head, his voice undertaking a much more serious quality, his expressions hardening as well. “Callisto was chasing me downwards as I tried to leave the Solar System to escape. However, I came to an agreement with her to let me go and just tell the others I died.”

“I guess in the moment, I held some false hope that a ‘death’ so early on would convince them that the revolution will lead to nothing more to pain and suffering, of course it didn’t.” Luna chuckles but it’s hollow and bitter. That changed absolutely nothing. The earthlings were dead, all except one(?) and his planet was suffering. “I have no clue how they reacted to my ‘death’ at the moment, but when I had returned to confront Titan about attacking Mars and Venus, their surprise only lasted a second before Ganymede had turned on Callisto, upset that I wasn’t dead like Callisto had said.”

Earth took a moment to pause, thinking he must have heard wrong. He HAD to have heard it wrong. No fucking way those moons were fine with Luna being dead- not just fine with him, WANTED HIS MOON, DEAD? Either that collision fucked him over more than he thought or those two moons, Ganymede and Europa, those annoy ass pricks of Jupiter attempted to had really tried to harm his moon and they deserved far worse than a basic asteroid to to the face. He should have–

No, no, calm yourself Earth. He takes a deep breath, as there is nothing he could do now. Luna was alive and that’s all that mattered. He stayed by his side, through thick and thin, comforting him and making him feel wanted and right now was even defending him after everything he had done. He really hasn’t done anything to deserve Luna as his moon, other than mistreat him for millions of years. He hasn’t even checked on him after all this, he was the older brother, yet Luna was handling all his burdens for him. Earth leads out a slight groan as a small headache starts to appear, whether it be from his overthinking or the asteroid. He looks back up hoping that mild sting in his forehead would leave as he watched the moons get the punishment they deserved. Not only for the pain they caused him and his earthlings, but for Luna. For Mars. For Venus.

“Wait, hold up! I wasn’t upset or mad you were alive!” Ganymede defensively puts his hands to his chest, taken back by the ‘absurd ’amount of blame being put on him. He wasn’t a monster nor (that much) of a murder! “Callisto had been the one who lied to us and allowed you to escape, letting you reveal our plan’s to Earth!” Ganymede points his finger back to the bundle of moons, not even bothering to look to who he was pointing to. As he continued on, he pointed to Luna as if he did something wrong, for warning his planet that he and their earthlings could be in grave danger. “She was a traitor and that could have ruined everything by letting you go.”

“I never sent them to kill or hurt you. Titan allowing you to leave was a mistake, and he didn’t see it so I took action, and told Io and Callisto to stop you and bring you back.”   “Whatever had happened past that, was their choice and wasn’t in my control whatsoever.” Ganymede shakes his head, and pumps up his chest proudly, a grin on his face, fully believing he cleared his name.

“What does that really change?” Luna tilts his head, squinting his eyes and putting even force onto ‘change,’ to really bring out his point. “You, Titan, and Europa tried to hold me hostage then, when you knew I wouldn’t return willingly.” Luna points to each moon, his voice increasing in pitch, holding no remorse for all of them in the moment. He puts his hand to his chest, when saying ‘knew,’ ever so slightly squeezing at his chest.“You guys actually managed to hold me hostage later on as a bargaining chip so you could avoid any suffering from your side, while willing to bring suffering to the other! That was very much in your control.”

“And yet, Titan had been the one to force you that second time, not me or Ganymede.” Europa spoke out, a hand on her hip, the other just sitting in the air, doing gestures.  “If I recall properly Titan said, he was going to use you as bait. And he had sent Phobos and Demos to get Earth so we could launch our attack. ” Europa looked up, putting a finger up to her lips she ‘thought,’ looking back down face empty and stared blankly. But lying beneath, was an ever so slight ‘smile’ that could be seen with a small gleam in her eyes.

“Look, Luna, I'm sorry.” Titan steps forward and his head droops, just a little bit downwards but his eyes look directly at Luna’s. “We should have never used you, a moon who wanted nothing to do with this revolution, as bait to attack your planet. I’m sorry on my and their behalf.” Europa rolls her eyes, muttering something along the lines of ‘no reason to be sorry’ and ‘didn’t do anything wrong.’

Luna pauses for a moment in his berating of the moons and their actions. His expressions soften and his eyes slightly widen, not expecting the apology. “Well… thanks, Titan.” He mutters out, his voice much more calm and relaxed compared to the contrast earlier. “But… I’m not the only person you need to apologize to.” His tone became tense once more, increasing in volume. “And right now, I'm not talking about Earth.”

Titan remains silent, but gives Luna a look of confusion and uncertainty. “Titan, you THREATENED Astrodude.” Luna said, sounding exasperated. He didn’t, he couldn’t, do this with the same hate and force as Ganymede and Europa. Titan had made his mistakes, but at least he tried to fix it. And now, Luna hoped he could understand his mistake so he could get this over with. “Forced him to search on his surface for life despite knowing what danger could come with it.”

“Who is… Oh!” Ganymede squints his eyes, looking back and mumbling as he tries to think. His voice took a higher pitch, a smile on his face, as he came to the realization. “He’s that one earthling right? Y'all mentioned him once. Anywho, does it really matter that much, he’s dead, with the rest of the earthlings.” Ganymede shrugs his shoulders, brushing off as if it’s nothing.

Earth’s eyes burrowed at Ganymede’s ‘statement,’ something not adding up in his brain. All his earthlings were dead he knew for a depressing fact. The pain subsided, yet it still hurt. Yet, for some odd reason Astrodude was mentioned, something just didn’t seem right.

Then it clicked, Astrodude wasn’t dead! Well, at least he hopefully isn’t. He was in space, safe from the meteor attacks on his surface. Unless he was on Mars again, then… He’s dead, became a thought pushed to the back of his head. One of his earthlings did survive! It may only be one, with not much of a life span left to go, and he didn’t know where he was but just one with some time left could make it seem like the Sun decided to shine a little brighter in that moment.

But then another thought hit him. Astrodude was the only earthling left. Astrodude was the only earthling left. He had a family, a wife and kids, friends and now they were all gone. What was he supposed to say if they had ever met again. He accidentally started a revolution that resulted to the death in all his earthlings except him, that his home was destroyed? Astrodude had would never talk to him again, he’ll hate him, if not… The idea stops, before it even had a full chance to form in his mind. But now, the Sun shined seemed to dim, all the warmth leaving to be embraced by the cold again.

“Wait- No!” It took a moment for Luna to understand what Ganymede was saying, but the second he understood he reeled back and defensively put an arm up. “He was in space at the time of the… attack. Don’t know where he is but the little guy is reliant, I'm positive he’s fine.” He sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than he was trying to convince the others. “But, that's not the point! Titan, you forced an innocent earthling to dig into your surface for life. Astrodude had done nothing to you, much less knew what happened.” Luna sticks an open palm out to Titan, one shoulder raised higher than the other.

“Well, I-” Titan stammers over his words, at a loss to what to say to Luna’s accusation. It was true, but the most people had known him for was being a ‘particle’ leader of the revolution, Ganymede and Europa, clearly the masterminds behind most, if not all of it. In a way, he felt hurt that Luna had called him out in such an ‘unnecessary’ way. And to have to admit it, in front of so many people was just… worse, way worse, especially in front of him. “It was just that, I-”

Ganymede travels behind Titan, right behind Titan’s ear, his voice low, but comes out perfectly to the receptor. “Well, well, well, ain’t this ironic Titan?” He turns his head a little bit to the right, in a cocky manner, making sure his voice matches that. “You put all the blame on me, and yet you're doing no better, mister entitled prince. Seems you already started on your revenge plan without our help.”

“What, no I didn’t!” Titan defensively puts his hand up in the air. “Now you're twisting the blame on me again. You and Europa approached me when I was trying to do a peaceful protest and manipulated me into starting this revolution in the first place.”

Ganymede grinned and was about to argue some more with Titan but Europa had ‘grabbed’ both of their ears at the same time, warranting a ‘yelp’ and a series of ‘ows’ to come from both of them. She dragged them down to her level. “I don’t think you boys seem to get it.” Her eyes were closed, and a smile was plastered on her face, on the inside she was seething with anger. The only evidence to show this was her voice, low and cold with anger, carrying a loud command that could only be heard by the three of them. “We're currently under the Sun’s judgment. His rule is the final say. You two going at each other's throat will do us no favors here.”

“I don’t care if you hate each other. Until we're done with trial, try to keep your obvious arguments to yourself.” Europa releases their ears, making them both rub them the small aching pain left afterwards. “Now, till you’ve been able to calm yourselves, let me deal with this.”

She clears her throat, recollecting herself, standing up properly and staring at Luna, while taking small, unnoticeable glances at Sun. “Even if Titan had done that, what does this even have to do with the revolution?” Her eyelids drooped down as she glared at him, almost challenging Luna. “This happened before the revolution, that earthling is still alive, and that helped Titan realize he had the ability to sustain life.”

“Nothing bad came out of it and at best you can argue it was the boiling point leading to the revolution.” She puts her hand on her cheek and moves her head to the right for a couple seconds, bringing her eyes in the same direction. “That ‘argument’ you made is pointless. The earthling is fine, it’s in the far past. Why does it matter?” Europa gestures quotation marks before bringing her hand back to her hip, and raising an eyebrow.

“Wha- Why does it matter? What does it matter!?” At Europa’s question, more so the declaration, Luna felt as if something inside of him was snapping. The patience and emotion he had with them was hurting. They may have not been his being of creation but cared for the earthlings just as much as Earth did. Here he was thrust into this, dealing with ignorant comments after the other but now she was asking why a life that was put in danger mattered? Why did all their lives matter? Maybe she was only talking about Astodude, maybe he read it wrong, would it have been important anyways, he’d come to really care for that specific earthling, but it was too late as the words piled out his mouth, his voice becoming a yell. “The earthlings had given you so much! Heck, there wouldn’t have even been a revolution if it wasn’t for THEM and the things they gave YOU!”

“What are you even talking about?” Ganymede remained unfazed by the little outburst coming from Luna. “The revolution started because of the planet's treatment of us. With or without them we would have still started the revolution.”

“Wait, hold up. Luna had a point.” Mercury put a hand on his chin, contemplating something. Luna couldn’t help but grumble, ‘of course I have a point,’ but immediately after he reigned in his emotion knowing Mercury didn’t mean any harm by it and if were to continue in this he needed to calm himself and speak rationally. “The earthlings had been the one to come up with the theory that Saturn destroyed his moons with his gravity to make his rings. Without them, we Saturn would have never known about this, at least not for another million years. Saturn’s moons may have been upset with Saturn over the name thing, but without the idea of possibly being destroyed they would have no reason to leave Saturn and join the revolution.”

“They were bound to join regardless.” Europa crosses her hands under her chest. “The names were slowly pushing them to realize a revolution was needed to get their respect. All the rings situation, did was push them farther and faster.”

“Even if that was true, Uranus must have only said that joke AFTER Astrodude told them and he found out. I’d assume you only went after them because of the joke.” Venus’s voice is near monotone, and sticks his pointer finger as he speaks nothing but pure facts. “You also haven’t said anything about Neptune and his issues with his moons. Clearly, you only went after them because you were going for Uranus’s moons so might as well try to gain more for the long journey and time.”

“The earthling had done nothing to you. They had no influence on what Earth said and you guys haven’t even met one till Astrodude.” Luna sticks out his closed palm and sticks out a figure for each individual contribution the earthlings had given to the moons. “They gave some of you your names, they gave you the theory, they discovered your sizes, they found more about your surface than you ever knew, they helped discover that Titan had life!” He sticks all five of his fingers up on one hand, throwing the other hand up in the air in frustration. “And death… is what you repaid them with.” Luna gives a pause after ‘death’, making the word come out much slower but with much more of an impact than the others. His face is grim as he sluggishly brings his hand to his sides.

“And it is completely possible that as Saturn destroyed moons, he destroyed billions of lifeforms with them. How is this, what did we did any different than that?” There’s a sense of passion put in her voice, if it wasn’t already there, defending herself for her life. Just why couldn’t they see? It’s their fault. “You claim the earthling indirectly started this revolution? I admit they had some contributions but they wouldn’t have changed much other than the possible lack of Uranus’s and Neptune’s moons. Saturn's moons still had a reason and the earthlings provided no involvement for Jupiter.”

“And that's just the issue,” Venus pushes up, huffs and rolls his eyes. As he spoke next, he shook his hand in the air, not bothering to look at anyone. “Honestly it wouldn’t have mattered what Jupiter or Saturn had done, good or bad, you’d always start this revolution and just for one reason. Power .” Venus glares between the three of them, eyes sharp as daggers. His mouth is put into a fixed scowl. “I don’t care if this revolution was originally about respect, cause it isn’t now.”

“You moon attacked two planets and claimed it was for respect.” Venus’s tone became snarky, just the talk of the subject was upsetting him. “You moons killed all lifeforms on Earth and claim it was for respect.” He clenches his fists at his side. “Anything you’ve done, you claim it as respect. Like, that's your only excuse, the reason you're hiding your real intentions under. And I must imagine, gaining an army of moons to attack others, must get you three lots of power.” Venus loosens up his fingers, raising his head to look down on them, this expression is one of pure hate and disgust.

“Well of course we need power.” Europa brings a foot forward and passionately swings her hand to the side. “We're surrounded by planets much bigger than us. We stood no chance alone. Even together, it hardly makes a difference.” She raises her hands out in front of her, looking down on them and her fingers crumbled into fists after they rose all the way up.  “We made an ‘army’ to put good use to that small chance we had. So while we may have needed power, our intentions remained the same, to get respect.”

“But you did have a chance.” Luna points out, his expression and voice both slightly irritated and exasperated. “Maybe not the smaller moons, but you have said yourself; the planets only respected moons that could match the size of a planet. Or their biggest moons.” Luna pauses and gives the idea a moment to settle. While it couldn’t be heard from where they were, the mouths moving were a big indication the moons in the back were murrering and reacting to the thought. “And it just happens, you three, Callisto and IO are the biggest moons of your respective planets. Based on your logic, you held the most power and respect in the moons. And you guys should have been able to tell your planets about their behavior? But. You. Didn’t.”

Europa paused and hesitated. Her eyes zoomed between the three of them, trying to control the panic she held, looking for something to say in the moment. Luna knew what he was doing with his words, had it all played out and she’s stuck. If she tried to defend herself and go against him, it would contradict one of their points and make them look bad in front of the Sun. If she didn’t and allowed it to slide, the moons might start to turn on them and they would still look bad in front of Sun. Her choice fell to make themselves look really bad in front of the Sun or make themselves look bad in front of the moons they're supposed to be leading and a little bit the Sun too. The question laid in which choice she was willing to make, to risk.

Luckily for her, she didn’t have to make the choice, since Mercury spoke before she could even open her mouth. “I’m here representing the planets not only because I don’t have a moon but I'm also the smallest planet surrounded by celestial bodies much bigger than me.” He pumps up his chest and raises his hands above his, widening them to emphasize his point. “Europa, Ganymede, Titan, all of you, I understand how you might feel.”

“I wasn’t allowed to participate in space poker for some reason. There are two moons that are bigger than me. I constantly had to stay by Sun’s side, the largest celestial body in the Solar system, who constantly solar flares. There were definitely times I got worried or nervous at the difference.” Mercury timidly chuckles at all the silly memories he had, all the meanwhile Sun’s breath hitches. “My partner and orbit buddy Venus, used to constantly bully me for my size.” Venus says nothing in response, either because he was too tired and stressed out from the attacks and yelling at the moons or just because it was simply true.

“There are many times through it all I have felt hurt, ashamed, embarrassed, upset, and angry. I've thought things that I'm ashamed of, felt things I've never wanted to feel.” Mercury looks downwards with some regret as his voice becomes soft and he crosses his hands over his chest in an embrace of sorts. “I hid from my fears, ignored them, pushed them past me for as long as I could. And I’m sad it took this kind of situation to make me realize, I didn’t need to hide anymore!”

“But, unlike you guys, I don’t feel the need to take the road of revenge, hate, violence to get to my point. To show the people I feel wronged me that they need to treat me the way I ‘deserve,’ that I'm better than they deemed me at.” Venus bites his lip and looks away from Mercury, his hands still resting on his chest. “I plan to use words. I plan to prove them better. I plan to confront them, seek out the route of it all and try to understand, why? If they can’t see me, for me, then that’s their loss. I know who I am.” His voice is passionate and strong as he stands taller, prouder.

“I know my strengths and try to understand my ‘weaknesses,’ I know sometimes it'll bother me, it will hurt me. My fears, my worries, my anger, will always be somewhere in me, that’s inevitable. But if I know how to stand back up and recover the ‘right’ way, then I'll be fine.” Mercury halts in his speech, taking a long and shaky breath of ‘space air.' This was bringing out far more emotions than he realized he had in him. When he opens his mouth again his tone comes out as more firm and serious. “And that’s just the difference between us. Whether you realize it or not, all of you are hiding from your problems. Cowering from your issues, like I once did, but behind a revolution. I said it once, I said it again, I understand.” Mercury smiles, sweet and kind, calm and sympathetic, and gently and slowly puts a hand on his chest. He may have a dislike of the way the moons have handled things, and he’ll show it when necessary, but he understands, and he understands why most everyone else doesn't. “But there will always be a big difference between defending yourself and taking words and making it into a war.”

His words hang heavy and no one dared utter a word for a couple of seconds. Eventually, Sun spoke, his voice high pitched and up beat, a smile plastered on his face.“Alrighty then, representatives, I have heard enough. Return to your respective groups, I’ve come to my verdict!” Titan, Europa, and Ganymede turn around first and return to the group of moons behind them. Venus, Mercury, and Luna, do the exact same thing, returning to the planets. “Firstly, moons, I can see your points and the issues you may have had with your planets. I have determined that while most could have been solved with words or were just simple misunderstandings, planets you are still to treat whatever remaining moons after this as equals. Improve your relationships and no more fights or violence in my solar system!”

“I… It worked?” Titan mummers out, his voice just barely eligible, with the loud crowd of people shouting, laughing, smiling as it all was over . They actually got what they wanted, and Ganymede and Europa’s strategy worked? He was far beyond shocked, and all regret he may have had about Earth got overshadowed by the overjoy he felt. “We actually did it!”

“Babe! We did it!” Ganymede ‘hugs’ Europa, lifting her higher up with his gravity. But he promptly let her go, putting his hands to his side in a swift motion instead and pumping his chest out.  “I mean, I expected it of course. How could we not win, we were obviously in the right. It’s just… In the moment, it feels great, doesn't it?”

Europa says nothing for a second, instead opting to raise her hand to silence him instead. “As much as I want to celebrate too, something’s off.” She narrows her eyes as she looks straight forward, doing her best to ignore the noise. Ganymede fixes his overconfident posture, bringing his hand to rest on his sides and bringing in his chest. He looks at her with a bit of concern and worry, taking in every word. “I’ve come to some noticings during this trial and as much as I want to believe Sun is a fair judge, this verdict is out of character for him, Ganymede. Besides, there's something about the way he said it that tells me, there’s more.”

As there’s an outburst of talking, cheering and laughing, mainly from the moon's side, Mercury takes a moment to think about Sun’s phrasing, and it was… odd … to the least. ‘Whatever remaining…’ What could that possibly mean? Surely, Sun wouldn’t kill his planet's moons, he may have been a bit tense and angry about this whole situation, but he was better than that. And it would just show they’re no better than moons themselves. But whatever else could that possibly mean? Mercury goes back into reality as Sun shushes on the moons. He has no choice now to wait and find out, after all, it couldn't be that bad.

Sun suddenly shot up, shooting a large solar flare out of his mouth, with a deafening sound that immediately shut up every single person at the trial. “Ahem-! Well, settle down. That’s not all I have to say!” Sun clears his throat again, putting a fist up to his mouth. “Now, my planet, I have heard you. The attack on Mars and Venus, the death of the earthlings, and a few other things, and the moon's actions wouldn’t go unpunished. And I've decided on the perfect one!” He smiles and claps excitedly a couple of times. “All the moons will be banished from my Solar System.”

Nevermind- It is that bad. A collective gasp coming from everyone at the same time, fills the air. “Wait- but, didn’t you just make new rules that planets will have to treat their moons with respect?” Mercury's throat felt dry as he spoke, the worry about all this getting into his core. He agreed that the moons needed some sort of punishment for their actions, but this was too much, to just force someone to leave their home, their planets. “How will they do that with no moons?” What was left unsaid was, isn’t expelling them too far?

“Silly, silly, Mercury! I didn’t know you started to tell jokes.” Sun lets out a series of long and hearty laughs and Mercury, along with everyone else, watches him in confusion. “Of course some moons will be allowed to stay, seeing they didn’t do much in the revolution. Those are…” Sun tilts his head onto one of his hands as he thinks. “Luna, Callisto, Io, Phobos and Demos and… that’s it! Five moons. So… I guess that Uranus, Neptune, and Jupiter wouldn’t have any moons but the rest of you get to keep some of yours!” Sun shrugs his shoulders and stands tall, believing they, his planets to the least, would be happy with this new arrangement.

“Sun, please reconsider this-! It was my fault my moons left and joined the revolution because I was being insensitive. I know them, they would never just join to attack Earth, they joined to be safe from… me.” Uranus pressed his lips into a thin line, his shoulders hanging low as he slowly placed a hand onto his chest. “They don’t deserve to pay for my fault, if anything, punish me instead!”

“A-and what about Titan?” Saturn pushed to the front, fear overwhelming his senses. He was wide eyed, his hands were shaking just a bit, and his core felt as if it was going to thump out of his surface. “He helped protect Earth in the end! He didn’t attack Mars or Venus! Doesn’t he get to stay?”

“Silence!” He shoots another solarflare up, not as large as the last but ‘shook’ the area a considerable amount and forced everyone to clamp their mouths shut. “Titan was a leader of this so-called revolution.” He gazed at Saturn, before directing his gaze to Uranus. “I don’t care why your moons did it, the second they joined and made no effort to help stop this and hide this from me was the second they became a danger to this Solar System.” Sun bared all his sharp teeth in a frown for a second, clenching his fists by his did. “I refuse to allow any kind of dangerous beings in my Solar System! And I refuse to have my orders questioned.” At that point, all the planets knew it was a done deal, no matter how much it hurt, Sun’s word remained final and dare they not challenge him.

“If you are to banish all the moons… Could you please leave the younger ones out of this?” Her voice was soft and hopeful. The situation was already delicate and somebody was gonna get banished by the end of this, it took no genius to see that. But if she has a chance to spare the lives of others, she has to try. “They’re just immature and innocent. All they did was follow us around. They pose no actual ‘threat,’ especially when we're gone. They don’t deserve to never see the light again because of our… my mistake.”

“And so what? I'm supposed to trust your word? That those moons didn’t participate in the attack? That they aren’t threats?” Sun crosses his hands over his chest and raises an eyebrow at her ‘suggestion.’ “Trial time is over, Titania. You should have thought before you brought them into the revolution.” He lowered himself, as close as possible, down to Titania’s level. His voice started to come out as a low growl as he spoke, he was getting tired of people trying to escape their fates. Murderers don't deserve a second chance. “Now, all of you! LEAVE!” He shot back up and pointed past the Kuiper belt, his eyes never leaving those of the many moons.

“Sun, wait, uh…” Ganymede racks his brain for a last ditch effort to attempt to try and save them all. “If all were to leave, wouldn’t that have a huge effect on all the planets' orbits and axis right?” Ganymede turns his head slightly to the right and looks at Jupiter, with a desperate and pleading look in his eyes. “Right big guy? Just tell him the science!”

“Well… I…” Just as Jupiter began to speak, uncertainness lacing his voice, Sun's powerful voice took over his.

An outburst of giggles and laughter erupts from Sun’s mouth, it was full of humor and amusement. As if something like this could and should be found hilarious. “Go on then Jupiter…” Sun calmed his breath before speaking the first couple of words. He slows in his speech for just a few seconds, allowing a smile to appear on his face. “Tell me the science .”

“You…” Jupiter looked away from all of them, absentmindedly rubbing the back of his neck. “If all of you left, it could change to our axis.” Ganymede starts to get a slight sliver of hope, but it’s all crushed when Jupiter took a slight glance to the Sun and continued. “But it wouldn’t be that severe that it shouldn’t affect us planets that much. The difference you guys leaving would make as a whole to this Solar System is… negligible.”

No word is muttered afterwards and Sun wears a smug grin on his face. He turns around to face the moons once more. “You're all the same,” came a soft and quiet voice, from the crowd, from Europa. Despite it’s low tone, the was absolute fury and rage being hidden behind those four words. “We thought with this trial, that maybe, we could finally come out victorious, have the all mighty, and fair star being able to judge our situation.” She smiles, even chuckling a few times in between and after her sentence. She then drops her head, pressed into her hand, the ‘smile,’ quickly diminishing. “But, I was far too naive, far too foolish going in and thinking the Sun would be any better than our planets.”

“You're the biggest celestial body in this Solar System, you’ve never had to feel fear of anyone bigger than you. Had to deal with the mockery and the cruelty.” As Europa spat that out, Sun’s eyes widened for just a few seconds, a blank stare on his face, but his eyes made it seem like he was world’s away. “In terms of you and the planets, it’s just like planets and moons.” She proceeds to shoot her hands up afterwards, imatiding the next three things she says to the best of her ability with her hands. “You run things like a dictatorship, shooting solar flares at them and demanding they all stay in their orbits. The planets don’t even have to like you, because, just like with us, you're much bigger, intimidating. Speaking out against you only gets a solarflare to the face.”

“But compared to planets, to you, we’re just insignificant asteroids right? And you clearly would favor the ‘moon’ over the ‘asteroid.’” She grabbed a very tiny asteroid that just happened to be floating in the vicinity as she talked, and crushed it with her gravity. She began looking back at Sun with a glare that held pure hatred. “I knew coming into this, we were bound to get punished in some way, but what I'm saying is, to the least, I expected a fair trial and due to your favoritism, you didn’t give us that. We were never meant to win something in that trial, you already decided from the start, didn't you? That we’re the ‘bad guys’ and the rest of you are just ‘saints.’ Like you've never done something you knew was diabolical, something you could never be forgiven for. ”

“All this is, is a repeating system of injustice to those who are smaller than you and orbit around you. Pushing them over and over again. Further and further till they can’t handle it, they won't take it anymore.” She lifts one hand after the other, one in the moon's side direction, the other in the planet's. She turns her head to look at both. “Look around right now, see how it started and ended with us. How do you think it’s gonna start and end with you?” She curves her lips down on the final ‘u,’ twisting her hand and pointing at Sun with the movement too. Her mouth slowly comes to a close and she brings her hand back to her sides, and making her back straighter, to steel herself for whatever will come next from the Sun.

Sun looks at her in silence, his widened eyes filled with a fiery rage at her implications. He pushes his body forward to her, so the distance between the two becomes much smaller. “ This is your final warning. ” His voice is a high pitched piss, leaving no chance for anyone else to speak. “ GET OUT MY SOLAR SYSTEM! And NEVER Return!

With no other words, Europa swiftly turns her body to the side and makes floats towards the asteroid belt. There was no longing look, no desperation in her eyes for something she knew they’d never get. Ganymede, Titan and soon all the others, except Io and Callisto, follow her without a word too, a mixture of anger, sadness, resignation as most of them left with their faces downcast. Some wanted to say a last goodbye, planet and moons, others wanted nothing to do with their planet’s, but the looming presence of the Sun's authority prevented anything from happening. Nobody was happy about this situation, who was there to be? Well… expect him.

As he peered in the Solar System, from the dark abyss in which he laid, a grin couldn’t help but appear onto his face. This outcome was a bit surprising he’ll admit, but it’s just the chance he needs. The Sun may be ignorant to it but the Solar System is in shambles and he plans to pick up and rearrange those pieces in his favor. Those three moons, the leaders, will be the key to keeping it that way. Saturn… Jupiter… soon he wouldn't be silenced any longer. “Soon… I’ll have my revenge.

Notes:

You guess it! This shit is (hopefully) not over yet! I still have a whole other arc to complete! Yay... Anywho, just give me about... A month for a break, planning, and other fics before I start to write this one again! I'm hopefully planning to really give everybody, or most everybody some character development and more personal scenes together. But also balance out the timing so this story moves. Everything should stay mostly within normal Solarballs rules, though I might figure out a way to make X more malicious and redeemable at the same time??? Just gotta think trauma!

Notes:

I feel like this chapter was a little short, the next one should be longer. I really wasn't even expecting to do more but a sudden boost of motivation hit me. Hopefully said motivation doesn't decide to disappear and diminish.

Also y'all please, I beg. Comment. I love reading y'all silly comments. 🙏🏿🥺
