Logan sat in the back seat between Ben and Taylor, both of them holding each of his hands that were still shaking. Ashlyn drove with Aiden beside her like normal. Tyler was in the very back, laying down, still somewhat recovering from his injury. The only noise was Aiden, saying anything that came to mind not seeming to care about or want a response at all. They escaped the facility. They had to leave their families behind for now but they were finally free.
Logan had shot someone. Logan had shot and wanted to kill someone- thought someone had deserved to die. Was that how he really felt? Even if she was the one that lured them into the Phantom dimension, did that mean it was okay to want to kill her? Or was Ashlyn's theory right; they were turning into Phantoms- and is that what made him almost kill someone? Which was of those was worse? Wanting to kill someone because they put him and his friends in the situation they were now in (the Phantom dimension, almost dying, actually dying, kidnapping) or becoming a Phantom? Either option made him nauseous, either option made him a monster.
Suddenly, Ben's head fell on his and he heard quiet snoring, the hand holding his was loose and limp. Logan took several deep breaths to calm himself down. He didn't kill anyone. He wasn't a Phantom (yet). And at least for the moment, he and his friends were safe, he had protected them- shooting that woman in the leg was self-defense, it hadn't killed her either. They had to escape. Very carefully, so as not to disturb the boy sleeping on him, he placed his own head on Ben's shoulder and squeezed his and Taylor's hands. Taylor immediately squeezed back and looked at him with curiosity and worry. Logan just smiled back wearily and thankfully Taylor just nodded her head in understanding. Then she took her hand out of his grasp and wrapped her arms around his arm, taking a hold of his hand again after, adjusting to rest her head on him too, and linked her ankle with his. Logan's eyes watered, Ben and Taylor, all his friends, still wanted to be around him even though they know about his family and even though he just shot somone. They were still comfortable around him, it felt like more than he deserved. He closed his eyes and just allowed their love to envelope him, he let himseld be comforted and feel safe.
Ben continued snoring, face nestled in Logan's hair, their hands barely clasped together on Ben's thigh. Taylor now fully pressed into Logan's other side, their hands on Logan's lap, as her breathing slowly evened out. She had to have fallen asleep, and Logan continued to just listen. Tyler was also snoring, though he was significantly louder than Ben, and Aiden was still talking- probably to help Ashlyn stay awake now that he thought about it. Logan opened his eyes and looked right as Ashlyn glanced at him in the rearview mirror, she gave him a concerned look. He gently shook his head and smiled, much more genuinely this time and even more so after she smiled back. Aiden paused and looked over to him with a confused grin that turned much softer when he saw Logan and then Ben sleeping soundly on him, only to quickly go back to talking Ashlyn's ear off. Logan couldn't help the chuckle at the other boy's antics but quieted down when Taylor stirred slightly. When she didn't seem to wake up, he closed his eyes again, let the exhaustion from the escape and all the emotions that followed catch up to him. It took only moments for him to fully fall asleep.
