“How could you only book one room ? How did you manage to make that mistake !?“
Wanderer scolds, setting Kazuha aside by dragging his arm a little to the left, keeping his voice down to prevent onlookers, however made sure to make his discontentment very clear. Kazuha was already well familiar with his companion's everyday discontentment, often receiving the brunt of it. He only smiled sheepishly, gently pulling his hand away
“I wanted to save our funds for the future.“
A bold faced lie, the two of them knew but neither were willing to mention it. Wanderer stared dumbfounded, his expression scrunched up in disbelief before he scoffed, crossing his arms. They've been travelling together for quite some time now, so the former has grown tolerance for Kazuha's antics. After all, they were never malicious.
He shook his head, a small 'tsk' leaving his mouth. It'd be pointless to change booking now, it would be an even bigger hassle than it already was. And besides, neither of them have eaten yet. Even if Wanderer had no need to eat, the same cannot be said for his companion.
Wanderer was the one who ordered most of their food, as well as the drinks. Kazuha wasn't picky, if it were edible then he would eat it. But also because he preferred to stray clear from Wanderer's wrath; his silly little 'mistake' from earlier was still lingering in the air, he'd be safer if he let the storm pass for now.
It wasn't a crowded area by any means, a few couples here and there but otherwise empty. It was no surprise, the hour was already late by the time they had came in. Kazuha had found them a seat right next to a window, moonlight seeping through and setting the mood.
“I hope you can hold your liquor.“
The waiter brought them their meal, as well as the ordered wine. Wanderer took a sip before his eye twitched, setting it down. It was definitely stronger than he thought it would be, being unfamiliar with the area. He could feel the burn in his throat, but that didn't mean he couldn't handle it. He was simply taken aback.
“Ah well.. I'm actually a little lightweight.“
Kazuha mumbles in slight embarrassment, but reached over, taking a cup for himself. It'd be rude not to, and they spent mora on it already. It'd be a waste.
“Lightweight ?“
He could see the amusement in his companion's eyes, watching them down another cup so easily. If only Kazuha could handle his liquor as well as the other, he'd be able to bond with Beidou and her crew more.
“You can't expect me to drink all two bottles by myself, take another cup.“
Wanderer slid him a second cup, urging him to drink. This happened again and again, Wanderer pouring him cup after cup until they've finished at least half of the bottle. By now, Kazuha was feeling quite warm, the flush on his face must be obvious. He shook his head to resteady himself before taking another bite off his dish.
“A dessert came with the meal by the way. You can have it.“
He was trying to focus on their words, but the swirling in his head proved to be distracting. Wanderer had noticed, and was even more dumbfounded. He barely had 4 cups, how was he already this drunk ?
Despite how much Kazuha wanted to be polite, it was no use. He could really only handle about four cups, and that was already pushing his limits. Wanderer had drank the remaining 1 and a half bottles of wine, yet only had the slightest tinge of pink on his cheeks. Kazuha was starting to feel a bit envious.
He could feel himself get dragged by the other up the stairs and into their room, but he could only focus on the scent of Lavender melons. It reminded him of his hometown, warmth spreading through his chest. He was slightly aware of Wanderer's grumbling, muttering curses under his breath, but all Kazuha could really do was giggle.
Wanderer truly couldn't believe him. 4 cups wasted, and wasn't at all good at being drunk either. He was at least hoping that the former would be a functioning alcoholic rather than simply being giggly all the time. Not to mention, the wine was starting to catch up to him, feeling slightly warmer too.
“Kazuha, stand up.“
He had no more energy to chastise him, having to focus on his footsteps. Kazuha was wobbly, but he could manage. He grabbed a cup of water, hopefully to sober the other up, but Kazuha had other ideas.
“Sleep with me.“
Wanderer almost dropped the cup, setting it down harshly on a nearby stand before he could actually drop it. Does he mean literally to sleep or..?
“Are you stupid ? Get sober. I don't need sleep, don't you already know that ?“
He wrestled the man to bed, and it wasn't a hard battle. The other was already unsteady on his feet, but the constant tugging was starting to annoy him.
“It's warm, really warm.“
Kazuha took off his scarf, his collarbone much more exposed without it. Wanderer swallowed, averting his eyes but his companion didn't seem to appreciate the lack of attention. He tugged at Wanderer's clothing too, kimono slipping off their shoulder.
“You're just drunk, that's why it's so..stuffy in here.“
All Wanderer wanted to do was drink his bitter tea and sober up while Kazuha slept. But his body was starting to weaken, the alcohol finally seeping in. He closed his eyes for a moment, counting from 1 to 5.
Inexplicably, Kazuha had given Wanderer a light tap on the nose, as if to ask for more attention. Who knew he would be so clingy once intoxicated ? Just looking away from him could send him pouting silently.
“What is it this time ? Go to sleep, you need it. I'm going to sober up in the meantime.“
Wanderer scoffed, pulling Kazuha away from him. He at least needed to heat up the pot first, then deal with his companion afterwards. Kazuha didn't appreciate this, slightly aggrieved. The bed felt far too lonely without another person accompanying him.
“No..I want to sleep with you..“
The former whined, still clinging to Wanderer's clothes. Though he was intoxicated, his grip was still strong. Wanderer tsk-d once more, harshly pulling away. Kazuha couldn't tell if the tint on his cheeks were embarrassment or intoxication, but he'd be too drunk to tell anyway.
“Stop saying that ! You're a poet, you should understand double meanings ! Or are you simply playing around, trying to make a fool out of me ? I don't find it the least bit funny.“
He could feel a headache forming on top of his already formed migraine, wrestling Kazuha back into bed and forcibly tucking him in until he could barely move. Feeling satisfied, he was finally able to boil some water to make his tea. Alcohol never affected him that much, he could handle large quantities, but this one was simply too strong. He drank a bottle and a half all by himself, who could blame him for feeling a few of it's effects ?
All of a sudden he feels two arms wrap around him from behind, causing him to freeze. He didn't even hear Kazuha shuffling behind him, how strong was this alcohol ?
“Hey.. Are you sleepy yet ? I saved some space on the bed for you..“
He could feel Kazuha's warm breath on his skin, whispering into his ear while wrapping his arms tightly around the other. Wanderer hadn't even taken a sip of his tea yet, and already he was being disturbed again.
“Kazuha you—“
He tried to struggle free, but the samurai wasn't exactly the easiest to break free from. Despite the short stature and youthful appearance, he was stronger than many may think. That's why so many of his enemies fall, they underestimate him.
“Go to bed.. I already said I didn't need sleep, didn't I ? Do you only hear what you wish to hear ? Do you have some sort of selective hearing..?“
Despite his snarky tone, his voice had become softer. Kazuha was right, it was much too warm in this room. He would open a window if it weren't for the fact it was raining, which was another reason why they had booked this room. Being wet is uncomfortable.
But if it was raining, shouldn't it be cold ?
“Kazuha...“
Wanderer relaxed, and Kazuha sunk down as they sat together on the floor. At least the other wasn't so talkative anymore, seemingly content with embracing Wanderer from behind. The tea was momentarily forgotten, as he closed his eyes for a brief second, just to get himself together..
He snapped his eyes back open, looking out the window to see daylight seeping in, but not so much. It was seemed to be only 6 in the morning, the sun wasn't truly up yet. Kazuha still had his arms around him, peacefully asleep as if he were dreaming of something. He couldn't believe it, he had told the other to go to bed so many times, yet he only fell asleep once the two were on the floor. Ridiculous.
It was more surprising that he had actually fallen asleep as well. He never enjoyed sleeping much, dreams haunted his sleep, like sins eager to crawl back to him, yet surprisingly he didn't have any of those tonight. He looked at his forgotten tea, already cold. He could only sigh, putting it aside for now and picked Kazuha up, putting him to bed once again. He tucked him in just incase, he couldn't have them complaining about waking up cold after all (despite Kazuha never being the one to complain of such, but Wanderer was satisfied with using that as his excuse).
He looked back at Kazuha, staring at his red streak of hair, how it contrasted against his white locks. Which, now that Wanderer was really looking at it, was a mess. Most likely due to him struggling to keep put the other to bed last night, what an eyesore. He went over to fix it, brushing it, patting it down, styling it with his fingers mindlessly, mostly just playing with the red streak.
He sat there the whole time, fiddling with the red hair in between his fingers, absentmindedly staring at nothing.
He was definitely not going to allow Kazuha anymore liquor.
