Beary Jealous

Summary:

Teddie gets jealous of Yu giving his attention to a cute cat, so he pretends to be a cute cat himself to get attention.

Work Text:

Yu loved cats, and Teddie loved Yu which meant byproduct he had to love them too.

Which Teddie had no problem with, while not as gung-ho about it as Yu was, he thought cats were pretty adorable with their long fluffy tails, cute cat ears, and overall silky fur. If anything they reminded him a lot of himself in a way when he wore his bear costume at June's, their simple cuteness brought joy to anyone's day who saw them so how on earth could anyone hate them?

He had a high opinion on cats at first, but that opinion of his had took a complete one-eighty on the day a cat had decided to become his rival in love.

It had all started when Yu had told him he was cat sitting for a friend. Apparently a friend of Yu's was going out of town for a couple of days and they needed someone to watch their cat so being the ever so dependable guy Yu was he volunteered to help them out.

He didn't think Yu cat siting was a big deal and it really wasn't at first. Whenever he ran into Yu while he was out and about he was acting like he always had, so he saw no need for alarm, but the problem in lied when Yu invited him over to his room to go meet the cat for the first time.

At first Yu had been doing a good job giving both him and the cat equal attention, but the longer and longer he stayed the more Yu's attention shifted to the cat instead of him.

It started off small at first, just quick glances back at the cat while they were mid conversation with one another, but then Yu's increasing attention to the cat over him had become more obvious with how his responses had grown shorter, how his body had turned to point at the cat rather than him as he sat, and even how at some point he had just stopped bothering to look up at him completely and only focused on peppering the cat with all his love and affection instead.

A comfortable "Meow," left the cat that was sitting on Yu's lap. It was obvious by the look on the little feline's face what it was trying to do, it was rubbing in the fact that it was getting all of Yu's wonderful love and attention while he got none of it.

The cat might not have been able to speak, but it was clear what it was trying to silently tell him with its eyes. It was telling him, "Say goodbye to all those smooches and fun times you shared with Yu because the age of cute cuddly bears is over and your beloved Sensei only has room in his heart for cats now! So you might as well enjoy the view because this is the closest thing you'll ever get to experiencing his love again!"

Truly the cat was a traitor to all things cute and fluffy, that much was obvious, but no matter how much he tried to resist the cat's taunting and no matter how much he tried to act as the bigger bear out of the two of them he couldn't help but think he was the one that deserved the attention from Yu instead of that damn furball that was hogging it all!

Yu should've been playing with his bear paws instead of fiddling around with the other cat's paws! He should've been looking at him with that loving look in his eyes while speaking to him in that ever so soft gentle voice of his instead of to the cat. But most importantly, he should've been the one that got to rest his head in Yu's lap while Yu stroked his hair and called him a "Good Kitty!"

It was obvious this was a dire situation, he couldn't let his boyfriend be claimed by another fluffy animal no matter how cute it was, but it was obvious Yu was too enwrapped in the cat's adorableness to listen to reason in conventional means, so there was only one thing left for him to do he was going have to blend in with the enemy.

How was he going do that? Well isn't it obvious? He was going have to undergo a makeover and become the cutest cat Yu had ever seen so he had no choice but to notice him.

....

"Meow!" a new cat (?) said when it crawled and sat on Yu's lap.

My disguise is perfect, with Nana-chan's impeccable drawing skills when it came to drawing the nose and whiskers, plus this cat headband and tail she let me borrow, there's no way Yu will be able to resist falling in love with me all over again, Teddie passionately monologued to himself. His plan was absolutely perfect! There was no way it could go wrong!

"Teddie? What are you doing?" The grey haired boy awkwardly asked as he adjusted to the new weight on him. If Teddie had wanted to sit on his lap that badly he could've just asked, he didn't need to push the cat off so suddenly like that or dress up so strangely to do it.

Oh no! It has immediately gone wrong! Teddie internally shouted at himself. Yu wasn't supposed to recognize him this fast! He had been picturing more of a slow burn romance for the two of them. Their romance would start with Yu slowly stroking each and every inch of his body just like he had been doing to the cat. This would act as their form of opening to one another, their unique way of expressing how much they truly cared for each other without ever necessarily needing to speak the words out loud.

It would've been a total romantic story to tell their bear cubs (kids) one day, but unfortunately it seemed that Yu had seen through his disguise far too quickly to make his dream a reality.

"Whoa?! You and dad fell in love as he stroked your body while you pretended to be a cat? That's like a total fairytale romance! I hope I can find my future partner in an at least half as romantic way as that," one of the imaginary hypothetical bear cubs Yu and him might have in the future spoke in his brain and said.

That's right! I can't give up! I have to try not only for myself, but also for the bear cubs that Sensei and I might have in the future! Teddie hyped himself up and said. Even if their bear cubs didn't exist yet, he wasn't going disappointed them. He was going make sure they were going grow up being proud of both their dads.

"I'm not Teddie nya~ I'm a cute kitty cat! Meow!" Teddie replied adding another meow at the end to really sell it. With how good his acting was, he was sure he could even blend in with a herd of random cats on the street now and people wouldn't notice the difference.

Still very confused about the situation, but admiring how committed to the bit Teddie was Yu played along with him and asked, "And what does a kitty cat like you want?"

"I want attention just like the other cat!" Teddie answered. He wanted to be petted, he wanted to hear Yu praise him for being super cute, he wanted Yu to look at him with that same face of adoration he gave to the cat!

"I can give you that," Yu said as he began to pet the top of Teddie's head, "but whenever I do this I can't help, but start to miss my boyfriend because of how much you remind me of him."

When you saw anything that reminded you of your love it was only natural to begin to miss them and want to see them.

"Really you do?" Teddie asked with a hopeful look in his eyes. He wanted to make sure the other boy wasn't joking with him.

"Of course I do," Yu responded with a gentle smile, "Was that ever a question?"

"To be honest I was worried you'd begun to like the cat more than me," Teddie look down and admitted.

Yu had a weakness for cats, so he knew it was only natural for him to get happy when he saw them, but still he couldn't bear to think of the fact that Yu might like cats more than bears!

Ruffling the other boy's hair to show how silly he was to think of the notion, Yu told him, "Listen the cat is cute, but you are way cuter then they are and there are plenty of other things I love about you that only you can do that cats can't."

Teddie was an irreplaceable person in his life, so he shouldn't be worried over things like that.

"Things cats can't do, but I can that you love..." Teddie repeated the idea out loud. What was Yu referring to?

"Oh, I get it," Teddie suddenly realized before he leaned in and gave the other boy a kiss.

"The cat can't do that and you really like that don't you Sensei?" Teddie asked with an innocent smile.

That was something only Yu and him exclusively did together, so no matter how much the cat may try to one up him this was always one advantage he had over it.

"Yeah, you're right they can't," Yu said with an embarrassed face. Teddie's impromptu affection had struck again, no matter how many times it happened he still occasionally got flustered by it.

"Then I guess it settles it then! I'll make sure you focus only on me by doing the one thing that cat can't!" The blond excitedly announced with a grin.

Confused by the other boy's sudden burst of energy, Yu let out a quick "Huh?" before he felt Teddie pin his back to the couch and begin to kiss him once more, but this time he was a lot more intense about it.

The grey haired boy felt his flush bright red, Teddie was right this was one way cats (no matter how cute they were) could never compare to him.
