Work Text:
Stephen caught Tony’s hand in his own, ostensibly to guide him down the street and to the coffee shop Stephen liked. He suspected Tony was well aware that it was just an excuse to hold hands.
It’d been five days, but Stephen felt mildly addicted to Tony. Except Tony was leaving on Sunday, back to MIT. They hadn’t said anything more about what would happen at the end of the week. Stephen wasn’t ready to ask.
They entered the coffee shop, each ordering a drink before Stephen led them to the small sitting area outside.
They had barely sat when the woman at the table a few feet from theirs called to them. “I would offer you a fortune,” she said. “A glimpse into your future.”
Tony glanced at Stephen, looking just as skeptical as Stephen felt. “Yeah,” Tony said. “And how much is this glimpse going to cost us?”
The woman’s smile was secretive. “The future calls for you,” she said. “There is no charge.”
They exchanged glances again. Tony shrugged. “Why not?”
The woman moved to their table. She caught Stephen’s hand without waiting for permission. Her finger trailed over the lines of his palm. Stephen prepared for vague predictions and meaningless nonsense. “Five days,” she said, tone quiet. “Five days and you’d give him your heart.” She looked up at him. “A contrast to the practicality you define yourself with. To the caution you have made your anthem. But he is unlike any you’ve known.”
Stephen froze.
“Five days,” she repeated. Her gaze slid to Tony. She dropped Stephen’s hand and reached out for Tony’s.
Tony looked like a deer in the headlights as she took it.
“Five days,” she repeated a third time as she examined Tony’s palm. “Yet, you’ll love each other all your lives.”
