Work Text:
“What if we didn’t,” Stephen said, the words escaping before he could think better of it.
Tony looked up from where he lounged on Stephen’s bed with the textbook he’d stolen from Stephen’s desk while Stephen finished a class assignment. At least that was what Stephen was supposed to be doing. Instead he’d been watching Tony, unable to stop considering just how right it looked for Tony to be there.
“Didn’t what?” Tony asked.
“What if we didn’t end this,” Stephen said. “It’s only a four ride train ride. That’s doable.”
Tony raised an eyebrow. “Is this about the fortune teller; I don’t believe in that sort of thing.”
Stephen fidgeted. “It’s been a good week, hasn’t it?”
Tony paused. “Yeah,” he said, just as the silence had almost reached the point of discomfort. “It has.”
“So, let’s keep it,” Stephen said. “At least let’s try.” Not because the fortune teller had said it, but because the fortune teller had said what Stephen had been thinking. All their lives was more than Stephen had been picturing, but something more…
Stephen prepared for rejection. Tony had said he wasn’t the sort that lasted.
“Okay,” Tony said. Stephen’s heart fluttered. “Let’s try.”
