Work Text:
Stephen slid into the back of the classroom just as the review session started. He got a few confused glances—the class was small enough that everyone knew he wasn’t supposed to be here—but was otherwise ignored.
At the front of the class, Tony was scribbling on the whiteboard, talking a mile a minute about manifolds and Professor Trey’s exam expectations. Stephen had taken the math classes required to get into med school and that was it, this was all far beyond him.
It was almost five minutes before Tony turned around, figures and equations all over the board, as he asked the students a question. He froze in surprise when he caught sight of Stephen in the back.
Stephen winked at him.
Tony’s eyes brightened, smile going warm, as he repeated the question, focusing back on the undergrad class he was TA-ing.
Stephen listened for the next hour and a half as Tony expertly led the review session, before he dismissed class. Tony sauntered towards Stephen as the the last student disappeared. He leaned against Stephen’s desk, leaning over to kiss him. “I thought you were coming in tomorrow?” he asked, once they broke apart.
“Professor Strych got sick and cancelled class. I decided to take the afternoon train up. I wanted to see you teach.”
In the last few months, they’d spent at least two weekends a month together in either Boston or New York; this weekend was Stephen’s turn to be in Boston.
“And how did I do?” Tony asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Sounded like absolute gibberish to me,” he admitted. “But smart gibberish.”
Tony laughed. “Well, as long as I sounded smart.” He smiled at Stephen. “Now, there’s something I’ve been waiting all month to do. I wanted you to be here. Ready?”
“For anything.”
