Chapter Text
Summer was wearing on, The days were still bright and sunny and the air warm. At least for the moment, it was likely going to begin changing soon. A young green rabbit critter speeds over the grass in the girl’s little hometown park. Feeling nice to get out and about, it felt freeing in a way.
The bunny dashes around a few trees, a basketball hoop, and even hopped over a couple of benches. As the rabbit ran she soon got to the picnic area where a bunch of tables were sat. Her eyes fell onto a certain critter sitting at one of the picnic tables. Due to the momentum Hoppy got up onto one of the nearby ones in order to slow herself and bound onto the grass easily. Ending up putting herself into a roll in order to stop her speed before soon getting to her feet.
With that the green bunny ran around to where the critter sat. Their eyes following her with a smile on their face.
“Bobby! Nice to see ya. What’re you doing out here?” She asks the bear in her normal quick way of speaking as she turns to face her lapin friend. “Oh, I just wanted to enjoy the warm weather. Nothing much.” The bear explains with her usual happy grin, leaning her arm on the table. “Saw you and decided to watch.”
Hoppy hopped from foot to foot from her leftover energy. “Yeah, I decided to have a little run. End of summer jog you know.” She tells her, mirroring her friend’s smile.
Like she expects the bear nods. “It was fun considering I have nothing to do.” She admits, seeing the rabbit stretch.
“Oh uh… thanks.” The bunny speaks, turning slightly away with a smile on her face. “Anyway, you really have nothing to do?” She asks, curious. Bobby’s stubby tail flicks in thought for a moment before a shake of the head follows.
“Nah, just enjoying the warmth while it lasts.” She tells her, she was a bear critter afterall and so winter was not a great time for her.
“Well, have you heard from the others today?” Hoppy asks, returning to her stretching.
“Nope, I haven’t. I think they’re doing things individually right now.” She admits. “Come to think of it, that's been happening for a little while.”
“We should probably all get together again. Getting to the end of summer after all.” The rabbit says, it had been a bit since all the smiling critters were together at once. They should get together before the end of the summer, make plans and stuff.
“Yeah, school will start soon. Would probably be best.” Bobby admits. “But what to do?” She asks. Sadly that wasn’t either of their strong suits, most of the time Dogday was the one to do that and the others fleshing it out.
“Maybe we can do a sleepover?” Hoppy suggests after a moment and hearing Bobby chuckle.
“Wow, that was quick. Usually only Dogday would be that fast.” Bobby tells her while seeing the rabbit let out a giggle too. Soon the rabbit sat her butt down beside the bear.
“Eh, just thought it’d be something. Not sure though.” She tells Bobby, leaning back against the table, taking a glance at them.
Bobby thinks for a moment, crossing her legs. “Actually yeah that could work. My place this time? My parents won’t care.” she suggests with a smile. Both the girls knew Bobby’s parents would be out for a bit soon, and her parents didn’t care. In fact they didn’t really care about much regarding them most days.
Hoppy nods. “Best option. It’d never be quiet at mine.” She mentions with a chuckle, even with only her brother around considering he never shuts up.
“Aw, I like your family. Though you have a point.” Bobby tells her with a smile. The last time she met a few of them she didn’t have any time to breathe. Didn’t complain but it was a bit much on her end.
They both giggle at that. “Should we let everyone know?” The rabbit asks, with her friend giving a nod to go ahead. Looking down at her lap Hoppy grabs her phone to contact Dogday.
Bobby watches her friend go through her short list of contacts and tell Dogday about her plan. She was a little envious she didn’t have one but she wasn’t the only one left out on that. The red carebear watched and waited as Hoppy texted the cocker spaniel that serves as the leader of their friend group.
It takes a few minutes before Hoppy finishes talking with Dogday. Apparently he’s with Catnap and Picky at the moment, that was good. There would be less people that’d be hard to reach. One of them would just have to tell Kickin when they could. That bird couldn’t be trusted with himself much less a phone
“Thankfully everyone’s free on the weekend… Not counting Kickin’ of course.” Hoppy informs her, watching her brush the pads of her feet over the grass. “Oh yeah, Picky said hi.”
Bobby giggles at that. “So we all agree with the weekend at my place?” she asks and not even a second after she spoke did the rabbit confirm her statement. “Awesome, I can’t wait to see the others again.” the bear tells her, it’d been a bit since Bobby had been with a good majority of the critters.
Once again Hoppy got to her feet, holding her arms up and stretching a bit although as soon as they came down the bunny began hopping from foot to foot. No way to be inactive it seemed.
“Definitely. My gosh I'm so excited. There’s so much stuff I wanna do with you guys.” She almost practically squeals.
Bobby giggles while standing up “Calm down Hopscotch. I’m sure we all are.” Hoppy mirrors her giggling before stopping with her jumping completely.
“I know that. I just can’t stop thinking about it.” She says with a smile. Bobby sighs, she knows how excitable Hoppy can get.
“How about we play some games to get your mind off it then.” The bear suggests, taking a glance over at the basket ball hoops and other stuff around the area. Hoppy follows her gaze toward both the hoop and the couple of swings not far away from them.
“If you think you can handle me with a ball.” She says with a chuckle at the last time they tried playing with a ball.
“Yeah, but you can’t kick a basketball.” Bobby replies, beginning to walk over to a basketball that had been left in the grass near the hoops. Who it belonged to was a mystery, but she was sure they wouldn’t mind
“Well I could, just wouldn’t be good.” Hoppy informs her. “Speaking of last time…” She adds, watching her friend grab the ball in her hands.
“Hm?” She lets out, looking over at Hoppy.
“Maybe I could try out hypnosis on you at the sleepover.” The rabbit says with a smirk forming on her face. Bobby looked over at her, she vaguely remembered Hoppy suggesting attempting to send her into a trance. She was curious if Hoppy was capable of hypnotizing her considering she heard only certain people could, at least easily.
Bobby bounces the ball onto the ground once before answering, catching the ball in her hands. “You could try, I’d like to see if you can.” She tells her with a chuckle, tossing the ball toward the rabbit who catches it easily.
“I’ll be sure to try.” Hoppy tells her confidently while flicking the lightning bolt charm with a finger. The red bear giggles. “Anyway, you wanna try shooting some hoops or swing to the moon?” She asks, gesturing over to the couple of swings close by.
Bobby looks over in the direction of the swings and back to the hoop. “I can try with the ball.” She decides, watching Hoppy nod.
The green rabbit bounced the ball a few times on the ground before jumping up and throwing the ball at the hoop. It hit the backboard before falling right into the net and landing back on the ground at which point Bobby grabbed it.
“Cool, now to do it myself.” She says, taking a breath before walking up to the front of the hoop. It looked a little intimidating but it shouldn’t be hard. Bobby prepared herself before throwing it up only for it to bounce off and hit the ground a little ways away. “Think I need a little practice.”
“Only a little, I’m sure you can get it if you keep trying.” Hoppy tells her with a smile and seeing the bear nod.
“Maybe we should do the swings, at least for now. Could talk about the sleepover more too.” She says with a smile, mainly due to being unwilling to continue trying to shoot the basketball. Sure it didn’t really mean much but she’d probably get frustrated quickly. Not exactly something she wanted to do on a relaxing day, especially in front of Hoppy.
“Oh, yeah sure. I don’t mind. Let’s go!” The rabbit exclaims excitedly before dashing over to the swings. Bobby smiles at the energetic rabbit’s attitude as she follows shortly behind.

Lunch, At times the best point of a day. It was also the time where if Picky Piggy was anywhere nearby would forbid entrance into the nearby kitchen while she was making lunch for everyone. She didn’t trust anyone around inside while she worked, or at least trust anybody to not touch anything.
It was this situation that Dogday and Catnap had themselves in. The lovable cocker spaniel invited the cat and pig to his home while his parents were away, with permission of course, and their visit just happened to happen right as that time rolled around.
Now Dogday and Catnap were forbidden from touching almost anything within the kitchen so they wouldn’t mess anything up for her while working. They were just forced to sit while Picky made food.
“So, when is food going to be ready?” Dogday asks, looking up from his phone. Without looking behind herself to him or Catnap sitting beside him, Picky gives a nod.
“Oh, it’ll only take a few more minutes.” She tells the duo with a smile. The dog nods, petting his friend’s head before glancing back at his phone.
While he was passing the short amount of time Dogday got a text notification from Hoppy. Looking at it he saw that the rabbit was wondering about doing a sleepover. That was surprising, she wasn’t usually the idea pitcher type of person. The spaniel gave her a quick kinda cheeky response before looking back up to the other two.
“Hey guys, Hoppy wants to have a sleepover.” He tells them, making Picky glance behind her to look at them.
“Oh? You sure? Hoppy isn’t really an ideas person.” She asks with a bit of a snort alongside a giggle. Dogday gave a little chuckle as well. “Yeah I told her that too.” He tells her.
A notification came again, Day would find Hoppy seeming offended for what he said to her before asking if he was up for it.
“You guys wanna do it?” He asks, looking back up at them.
“Oh, yeah sure. It’d be nice to have all of us together after like a week.” Picky says, noticing the purple cat beside the dog silently nodding.
Dogday smiles “Alright, than it’s settled. I’ll text Hops back with our answer.” He says, going to do just that while Picky went back to work for the moment. Dogday’s free hand absently petting Catnap as he typed. The cat seemed to like it anyway, or at least the purple feline didn’t complain. “Alrighty, sent. Oh, Bobby’s with her too.” He tells the group as he got a reply within seconds.
“Oh, tell her I said hi.” Picky mentions while she works. “Can do.” The dog confirms as he went back to the messages. Saying what Piggy wanted as well as asking where they should do the sleepover. When the reply comes the dog looks back up to the pig.
“Are we good with Bobby’s place?” He asks, glancing at Catnap who nods though Catnap would agree to anything. Picky lets out a noise as she thinks for a moment. “I’d say it's better than anybody else’s.”
“Especially Hoppy’s…” Catnap mentions in a whisper a little louder than expected, it was the first time he spoke in like an hour so it surprised the pup. He wasn’t really the talking type of person. Dogday nods. “Yeah, you have a point, Nap.” He says with a smile, the cocker spaniel could think of several times that Hoppy’s place was the worst to be at, which was quite often.
“Guessing parents don’t care?” Piggy asks like that was a question. Of course they didn’t, Dogday couldn’t think of one time they did to save his life. Due to that Bobby’s place was probably one of if not the best option.
“I mean, when do they?” He asks brightly as the answer and Picky nods, that wasn’t much of a surprise, even if it was a rhetorical question.
“Sure, Bobby’s sounds good.” She says while she works. “Would be fun no matter what, I’m up for anything.” The pig tells the dog and as before relays the information to the bear and rabbit. The only question that remained was how to contact the other critters, sure Bubba and Craftycorn would be easy but Kickin? He didn’t have a cellphone, he’s probably at home anyway but knowing the chicken Dogday was unaware of the answer. That exact question stuck longer as Hoppy asks if he’s able to reach Kickin.
Piggy finished making lunch before he got a chance to respond, sitting the plates in front of the dog and cat before grabbing her own food. Dogday took a bite of his sandwich before answering the bunny and telling her he’d figure it out. As the leader he always did after all. Alongside telling the critters that weren’t informed
“Either of you know what Kickin is doing?” He asks the others in the room as he texts the other critters available. Catnap shook his head as he ate, the feline hadn’t seen him in a few days.
“Probably doing something dumb as usual.” Picky mentions, the chicken wasn’t a stranger to doing random stuff that sometimes ends up getting himself hurt or something. Dogday knew that may not be the case and he was just playing video games, which seems like the usual for him over most of the summer.
The dog returns to his food while he waits but before long Bubba replies to his message confirming his interest in this plan. Crafty on the other hand took a bit before she gave a response. By the time she did, the trio was about done eating.
“Looks like Crafty’s in. Only one left is Kickin.” Day tells the group, both his friends nod seeing this development. They seem excited, or at least Picky was, Dogday could never quite tell with Catnap. “Should I call and see if he’s at home?” He asks.
The lavender cat looks up from his food. “If he’s not we can leave a message. Best to check the easiest anyway.” His voice was quiet like usual around people but the critters heard him pretty easily. Nodding the dog begins putting in the chicken’s phone number.
Ringing hit the dog’s ears for a few short moments before the voice mail came up. Day sighs at the sound “Guess he isn’t there.” He says quietly before speaking up.
“Hey this is Dogday for Kickin. We thought about getting together for a sleepover at Bobby’s this weekend. You’re the last critter to ask. Call back when you can.” He says, ending the call.
“Looks like we gotta wait on him.” He says, looking at the others.
“I mean it’s not like it’s Thursday or Friday. He has time.” Picky mentions. Yeah she has a point, there’s a lot of time so Dogday had no need to worry.
“In the meantime, while we wait. Movie?” The pig asks with a smile. The cat beside him, rather expectedly nods his head. Why the heck not right? More time together.
“Sure!”
