Bat Interruption

Summary:

While enjoying a day alone a bat decides to disturb her sheep friend

Notes:

I wanted to make a story with Baba and Rabie and I'm going to be honest it didn't turn out as well as I'd have liked and even ended kinda feeling like a less good version of its inspiration (Which you really should go read it's great, short and sweet, don't take my version of it as a substitute. It's listed in the inspirations). Also I will take this down if the author wants me too.

This is probably something I'll end up rewriting at some point but for now I guess this is a prologue to the multiple chapter story I'm doing with these two.
Also expect the name to change, I don't have a good one.

Work Text:

Darkness, that’s all her eyes saw while laying under the blanket on her bed. Not a sound hit the ears of the black sheep that she didn’t make herself. Just what she liked, quiet darkness with perhaps some music playing in the background to prevent dead silence, the warmth of her bed just making it all the better.

Through the covers she could just make out the light from her slightly open window. Casting a nice light onto the floor, the different colored glass illuminating pretty colors around the floor and her shelves where plenty of little trinkets and things laid. Many of which were little skulls and fake organs placed in jars. She had a thing for the macabre, her friends certainly didn’t help.

Presently she enjoyed the rare peace and quiet she had while her family was away. Music quietly played from her phone beside her, kicking her foot which hung from the side of the bed. Counting how many times it swung subconsciously as she paid attention to the calm that the comfort of her room brought.

She could stay like this all day, laying like this.

She was even starting to nod off to sleep.

But before Baba had the ability too she would pick up something all too familiar: the faint scent of bubblegum coming from outside. With that hitting her nostrils she knows exactly what was soon to come next. It was inevitable

“Baba Black Sheep! Have you any wool! Any time you could spare for sweet little old me?!” A voice from down below sang happily less than a minute after the smell came into her room. There it was, just as predicted.

Great, she knew that could’ve been a problem when she decided on opening her window a small amount. Baba’s bedroom was practically soundproof until the window was open.

Now the sheep came to the question: To get up and go see the critter at the door downstairs or stay in her bed and ignore her. She sighs and glances at the skull necklace resting on her wool as she questions it. She could just pretend she was dead like she did any other time she didn’t want to interact, just resting in her bed.

If she did that though the critter would be more than capable of checking on her and the bubblegum smell wouldn’t leave for a while unless she closes the window… which at that point.

Ultimately she makes up her mind, deciding to get up and open the door for the critter. Begrudgingly she goes to sit and get to her feet, stretching a bit before grabbing her phone. Baba could’ve sworn she told her friends not to bother her today, perhaps that was just a daydream. It’s not like she hadn’t done that before.

Whatever the sequence of events may have been, Baba makes it to the door and makes her way out of her room and toward the stairs, turning off the music in the process. She couldn’t exactly hear it over the clonking of her feet on the floor boards anyway.

Grabbing on the railing she went back to the thought of just returning to her bed, pretend she’s dead, asleep, whatever, just anything so she could head back and lay in bed again. This would likely be her last chance, the sheep not knowing if she’d have enough energy to climb back up the stairs.

But she reminded herself it’d be no use especially considering there’d be no way she’d get comfortable again and the critter was persistent when she wanted to be. It was best to get this over with before it bit her later, both figuratively and quite possibly literally.

Sighing she begins heading downstairs, being able to hear the singing grow louder though more hushed as it was obvious the girl was doing it to herself until certain Baba could hear it. Once she neared the door it picked up.

“Whether it's an hour, a minute or only a second or two?!” She hears the critter sing with a giggle. Clearly attempting to do something, which was working

Letting out another breath she grabbed ahold of the handle and turned it knowing there was no turning back. The moment the door began opening a happy gasp hit her ears.

“Yes Ray, yes Ray, I have time all day, day, day.” She sang in an annoying tone.

Once again that stupid tune that that shark started to mess with her and one she absolutely despised to the point she wanted to smash the skull of anyone who sang it and potentially add it to her collection of them if given the slightest chance.

Not to her though, never her, she couldn’t.

Opening the door the rest the way Baba finds the culprit of the singing hopping from side to side on her porch with the largest possible smile on her face, white and pink ears wiggling and pink wings flapping around in excitement. After a moment she stops and folds her winged hands. Fangs pointing out from her top lip as she leans forward.

“Oh good, I don’t think I’d be able to finish that song. Can’t think of another verse.” She says and Baba was glad for that, though she knew she would sooner or later given the time. The bat critter let out an annoying giggle which got the black sheep to smile as it always somehow did, as if the bat’s natural bubblegum scent didn’t. It was irresistible to her and she wasn't sure exactly why.

This fuzzy little white excitable bat was Rabie Baby, the annoying fruit bat of Baba’s friend group. The most talkative one, the one she constantly found on her doorstep for whatever reason being allowed entry most times, and the one that was somehow able to get Baba out of bed consistently despite everything.

“Hey Ray.” She says her voice disinterested, bracing herself for what stupid things will come out of the bat critter’s mouth today, she wasn’t mentally ready for it. “Why are you here today?” Baba spoke, voice lacking interest.

“Can’t I just see how the leader of our friend group’s doing?” She asks with a smile only to see the sheep tilt her head. “I’m not the leader.” Baba spoke, slightly confused.

“Yeah well Simon’s self centered and Allister would rather sit and do nothing than anything else.” She explains. “So you’re basically the best leader by default.” She adds earning a sigh and eyeroll.

“Well anyway I was in the area and decided why not hang with you. And I got info on the smiles gang. I could give you the deets if you’d like.” She explains, her voice laced with mischief as it always was. Her nose doing a little wiggle.

It was than she came to the decision. As much as Baba wanted to close the door, leave her, remind her she didn’t want to be bothered and left alone today but what was the use? She was her friend and she was already here. May as well right?

With more effort than she was expecting she allows the bat entry into the house to which she took without a second thought. Allowing the black sheep to see the marks her feet made on the porch all other times prior. From all her excited jumping no doubt.

“So… the critters had a sleepover the other night.” The bat informs with a smile.

“Did you go and crash it or something?” Baba questions the bat as Rabie walks around the room a bit.

“I mean I thought about hiding under Bob’s sofa but I wouldn’t have had a way out. Especially with what they were doing.” She explains which makes Baba cross her arms.

“Okay than. Anything actually worthwhile?” The sheep asks, wondering if it was even worth it to let this bat inside her home today if she didn’t even have anything to say.

“Oh yeah. Apparently that little cat’s got an imaginary friend.” Rabie spoke with a giggle and managed to lift herself off the floor.

“Imaginary?” Huh, guess that was at least something.

“Yeah, specifically a cousin named Luke if I remember correctly.” She tells her, Baba nods and heads over to the kitchen which Rabie follows a bit behind.

Her eyes looking over at the colored windows as she went to sit, The sheep’s family was really into that for some reason. It had been there since she met Baba, still she liked the appearance of it either way. It added color.

“Guess that’s interesting.” She had to admit it was surprising to hear that, sure as far as she was aware that cat was childish but he had so many friends that the selectively mute cat didn’t seem like a person to have one. Something worth thinking about she supposes.

“Yeah, and I got a pic of that little bunny rabbit wearing a dress, and got a short video before they looked my way.” That intrigued her, that’s a sight she had to see. Any evidence of Rabie’s gossip being true was a rarity. There’s no way anybody was able to get that to happen but if there’s proof...

She chuckles. “What magic made her do that?” She wondered out loud. Rabie giggles at her friend’s remark.

“Outside of Bearhug no clue but she was all pretty and ordering the others around to like paint her nails and stuff.” She says. “Think that doggy’s Corny’s assistant or something too.” She adds.

Baba thought about it for a moment, it was likely that weird technique that Poe had told her about, hm… maybe she could do that on Rabie Baby for messing with her quiet day.

As for Craftycorn and Dogday, Baba hadn’t seen him around her tower home the last time she was there. Not that Rabie would know, she didn’t hang around there often and had no clue about Baba visiting her every so often. She didn’t know a lot of things in fact. Even despite trusting her, it was the bat’s nature she supposed, due to it everyone stayed silent around her when it came to certain things.

“Huh, strange. Anyway, are you hungry?” She says, snapping herself out of her own thoughts while opening the fridge.

“Sure, you got any blood bags or fruit left?” She asks happily, her little stub of a tail wagging as the sheep searched through it.

Thankfully she always had a bag in a secret compartment in the fridge. Baba hadn’t admitted she had them or the purpose to anyone nor ever wanted to explain who or where the blood came from, if anybody did find it she’d just lie about it. Except maybe her little brother, it’d likely traumatized him otherwise, thankfully that hadn’t happened yet.

Finding and taking it out she carefully puts it on the table closest to the near albino bat. Without much if any hesitation Rabie Baby sank her fangs into the bag and began drinking the red fluid in front of Baba.

While the bat drank Baba revels in the peaceful quiet now that Ray was occupied. It was one of the few times she was quiet afterall why not enjoy it. Enjoying seeing the satisfying look on her face as the sucking sound continued.

It would take a few minutes but soon the bat girl rested the side of her head on the table with a satisfied grin growing on her fuzzy face. When she next spoke her voice definitely sounded happy.

“Oh man that’s good. Compliments to the chef or whatever as always. Better than with Piggy.” She says, patting her belly with a smile. Excellent! the effects should start up anytime.

“Piggy?” Baba asks curiously. What would Rabie be doing at the chubby pig’s home?

“I was flying around at night a week or two ago, Pig was up for a midnight snack and she allowed me to drink her blood.” She says before giggles. “I may have almost accidentally drank her dry.” She adds before seeming to calm herself down majorly.

“Wow…” Was the only word that Baba could let out, going to pet the calmed bat on the head. Happy at her friend’s quieter demeanor even if it would be temporary, smiling as Rabie sticks her tongue out. It was nice, Rabie could be the most bright, cheery, excitable critter in town 2nd only to that dog and maybe the rabbit. So seeing her the complete opposite was rather nice

“Since you messed up my day a bit. Would you mind laying with me on the couch?” Baba asks the bat. Ray took a quick moment before responding.

“Oh I did? I’m so sorry Babs. Yeah no problem, I don’t mind doing that.” She says with a smile sounding rather sincere if Baba were asked. Rabie didn’t mind doing anything for the sheep, especially if she was the cause of a problem. She also found her to be a bit of a cuddle bug too, to the extent she wonders if the bat did it because she liked being close to her or her wool was just fluffy like she’d been complimented for in the past.

“Good, now come on.” She says before coming up behind the girl and lifts her up into her arms easily on account of Rabie’s ability to fly making her lighter. The girl lets out a surprised gasp as she leaves the ground and into Baba’s arms

“Woah, hey I wasn’t expecting this. I can walk.” She says as a weak protest but still allowed the sheep to carry her toward and put down on the couch before watching her friend sit beside her while repositioning herself to sit on her legs.

“Alrighty. I wanna try a little something with you real quick.” She says with a smile, causing Rabie to tilt her head, curious to what her friend had in mind.

“Hm? What’cha got in mind?” She asks with a flap her wing, watching Baba take off her necklace with what looked to be a sigh of relief and hang the skull pendant in front of Rabie’s eyes.

A little thing for a bit of revenge.

“Just a little something Poe told me about. If you don’t mind Ray.” She says with a smile. Rabie grinned widely at her friend.

“Oh okay, hit me with it. I can take whatever that bird’s got.” She says.

Baba just smirks and instructs the bat to follow the pendant before swinging it in front of her. Rabie doing what her friend told her, eyes following it back and forth, one side to the other. Ear twitching when hearing Baba tell her to relax more than she already was but even still she feels her body relax to her request.

“Great, no need to worry, just listen and relax Ray.” Baba says softly watching her give a quick response as a nod. Her black pupils seeming to grow bigger.

This should be quick with the bat under the effects of the blood. “No need to think, no nothing. You just want to nap.” She adds.

Just as expected a small yawn escapes her friend. “Great. You want to go to sleep?” She asks and a small slow nod was what she receives. Good now just one more little thing.

“Alright, you’ll go to sleep in 3.” The black sheep spoke. “One, two… and three.” And just like that the hyper-active bat closed her eyes and began to sleep peacefully.

Thank goodness for that bloodbag, if it weren’t for Rabie Baby’s abilities that would’ve taken way longer if it worked at all. She was unsure of that raven’s methods.

“Alright, will you do whatever I ask?” The sheep asks.

“Yes Baba.” She says softly, making her smile.

Now it was time to test this out a little bit. “Rabie, stand up and open your eyes.” She asks, knowing if this thing worked there’d be spirals in her eyes.

Sure enough though the moment the bat’s eyes opened she found a pair of pink spirals swirling on a black background where the eyes should be.

“Now this was just for a little test for later purposes, but since you’re here how about you go to my room and get some blankets from the room.” She orders from her friend and with a quick nod the bat folded her wings up and marched toward the stairs.

While Ray was doing that Baba thought of something. This could be useful to her but would she really be willing to take advantage of her friend? Nah, she couldn’t even if it was in order to tell her things she wanted to without consequence. That’s something Rabie has to learn herself. Though even than she didn’t know the extent of this. For now she’ll just use it to mess with the bat girl

After a few minutes her ears perk up at the sound of soft steps coming down the stairs making her look back to see Rabie with a blanket or two wrapped around herself. Just as ordered to come up to the sheep and throw the blankets on the couch.

“Good, thanks Baby.” She says. “Okay, you’re a bit less fun like this so wake up.” Baba tells her, causing the bat girl to shake her head and blink a few times, and put a wing to her head.

“Ugh, that was so weird. So relaxing.” She says with a bit of a smile. Baba Chops lets out a giggle at her reaction. “Glad you liked it.”

“Yeah, it was cool. Like I was watching myself walk around but not actually feeling it and stuff.” She admits with a smile. “Could you do that again some other time?”

The black sheep chuckles and grabs a blanket. “Maybe, for now, let’s cuddle up.” She says, Rabie turns her attention to the blankets that she got and nods. Climbing up onto the couch as Baba went to lay down and resting her head on the cushioned armrest, perhaps she should’ve got her to get a pillow too. Oh well too late.

Rabie Baby managed to get in the sheep’s arms, feeling the skull pendant against her back as pull the blanket up and folded her arms up.

The bat began settling into the sheep’s arms. Though as she did a thought pops into her head.

“Hey, you wanna play a horror game or something?” She asks only to hear Baba let out a low groan. She wanted to but didn’t want to move so quietly asked her to get the controllers.

“Say no more.” Rabie says, wiggling free from her friend’s grasp a little. Thing was the bat also didn’t want to get off the couch so attempted to keep her body on it and crawled using her wings over to the controllers but it ended with her falling on her face.

Laughter came from behind her and with a glance back she gave a quick little smile before returning to her mission. Now on the floor she got onto her knees and grabbed the controllers beside the console before returning to the goth critter’s side.

“Thanks, what do you wanna do?” Came the question while the cuddly little bat got back in place thankful the couch had a lot of space so the sheep wouldn't be crushed.

“Uh… Resident Evil?” She asks with a smile. It took a few moments for her to consider it but she agreed to it in the end both getting to figuring out the details.

They were likely to be this way for hours. Baba’s parents wouldn’t be home until late and her annoying brother was at a sleepover with his friend group. Last week or so of summer she supposed was the reason.

Maybe the fact Rabie interrupted her in her quiet wasn’t so bad after all. Sure she wasn’t in her warm cozy bed with her music playing in the background. While she would rather do that she was rather content here, cuddling up to the fuzzy bat playing video games under a blanket.

Only real problem: these moments were much rarer than she would like especially on her good days. Though she wasn’t the only one that wanted these moments more than they happened.
