Work Text:
Midnight, it was not the best time to get food, but when it's needed anytime is really a good time. Currently now was one of those times for Picky. waking up with a growling stomach in the middle of the night wasn't an uncommon occurrence, it was just a little irritating to have happen to the pig. Especially since she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep until it stops, her body gets what it wants, and it would annoy her to no end until she got it. Picky didn't like it but when it happens, she just deals with it. Easier to do that than fighting her hunger to sleep until morning.
The pig slowly got out of her bed by the top floor window, letting out a soft groan as she quietly and slowly crept her way downstairs. Thankfully she had a good stash of food she could use for just this kind of occasion. Just needed to get to it without waking her parents, good thing they're heavy sleepers.
It didn't take long for the pig to get down and to the kitchen thankfully. Picky turned on the kitchen light and made her way over to her little food stash, her steps heavy against the wooden floor. Or that's what she would've done had she not heard a knock on the front door which made her jump.
Who could it be at this hour? There wasn't anybody Picky could think of that would be at this time of night. Okay that was a lie, Hoppy was one of the people the pig knew most definitely would still be awake at this hour. Come to think of it she couldn't think of a single time she'd seen that bunny sleep in her life. Even than though, would she really be coming to her house of all the critters especially when she knew the pig would normally be asleep.
The others she could think of weren't really in her friend group, so why would any other critter come in her place while the moon was high overhead? It took a minute but soon Picky Piggy had a thought, and something told her she knew exactly who this was.
Letting out a sigh she wanders over to the front door and goes to open it.
Upon opening the door and the house to the chill night air she found something or someone all too expected. There in the darkness in front of the door was a fuzzy white bat. The only thing really keeping them from being an albino was the pink over the legs, wings, as well as the inner ear and outline of the little beady ever curious white eyes the animal possessed. Picky knew it, Rabie Baby, a name while befitting of a cute innocent pet bat was only partially fitting for the little devil everyone knew the bat to be. The blood drop which served as the critter's pendent only a hint to her true nature.
Even though she had a firm idea of the identity the person she thought was at the door Picky jumps. The bat watches as the pig collects herself, a smile etched onto the fuzzy face.
"Oh, Rabie. Hi, what're you doing here?" Picky asks the bat, seeing her stretch her pink wings a little.
"Nothing much. Just decided to go for a flap. Got a little hungry and decided to come here?" The bat informs the girl. "You alright? Seems i gave you quite the fright." She adds with a chuckle.
"Don't worry, I just wasn't expecting someone this, you know? Late. Why'd you even come here anyway?" She couldn't exactly accuse the bat of lying, despite being what the winged critter did on a regular basis herself. Still though it sounded like an excuse of some sort.
"I saw the light turn on. What're you doing up so late?" She asks, a cheeky smirk settling on her face. Making it seem like she just caught Picky doing something she shouldn't be. Hoping to find something out she reckons.
"Nothing Reb, I just woke up hungry and I can't go to sleep without eating. Normal stuff." The pig says, stepping aside to allow the bat girl entry which the bat took.
"Oh, does the little piggy have a dirty little secret?" Rabie teases with a mischievous little smirk appearing on her face and swaying her tail ever so slightly, her innocent little face not able to help itself but to slip ever so slightly. Not that Picky minded or cared of course, she begins wandering back into the kitchen before speaking again.
"Not really, all my friends know about it. Just something my body does. More of an open secret than anything." She says, heading over to her little food stash. Rabie scratches the tuft of fur around her neck.
"Aw, open secrets are no fun." She says, crossing her arms and giving a pout.
Even if it was an open secret there wasn't a doubt in Picky's mind that Rabie Baby wouldn't go and tell her friends about it the second she had the chance. The little blabbermouth couldn't keep something in that brain of hers from leaking out even if it killed her, whether it involves the smiling critters themselves or her own friends. To Picky it did feel kinda sad even her own friends didn't really trust them with that kind of stuff, especially with her spreading lies at points with even the Nightmares not being exempt from her targeting though if it ever bothered Reb or anything she did a good job hiding it.
The rumble of her stomach cut off her thoughts thankfully, it wasn't something she wanted to dwell on. Refocusing her mind on her current intentions of getting food to get her stomach to shut up already. Quickly the pig grabbed a couple apples and a banana before turning around and heading to the table that was set up in the kitchen. This should be enough to satisfy her body's hunger.
While Picky did this the fuzzy white bat behind her watches. Her eyes mainly focused on the pudgy pig's tail wagging while she flicked the charm around her neck with her finger absentmindedly. Soon though the girl would waddle up to Rabie and sit at the table in the room, putting an apple and banana down before biting into one of them. It was only after about a minute of this that Picky spoke again, feeling the eyes of the cute innocent bat on her.
"Uh... you can get some food if you want." She suggests, seeming to knock Rabie out of a trance. She nods at Piggy's words, glancing over to the unattended apple. She stays like this for a moment, considering something.
"I could do that... or I could do a little something different." She speaks, her voice taking on a mischievous tone alongside her eyes sparkling as an idea popped to mind. Picky cocked her head in confusion, what was she thinking of doing? "Huh?"
"Well... Can I tell you a secret about me?" She asks, that was kinda surprising. Rabie can keep secrets when it comes to herself? Unless this was just something regularly known about her which in all likelihood it probably was. Though she didn't know it, and nobody had ever talked about it.
"Sure, I'm not a blabber bat like you are Reb." Picky tells her with a chuckle. Rabie returns the gesture.
"I guess, but anyway. Well, I'm vampiric. So, I can drink blood to curb my hunger." She tells the pig, the last part ending with a childish giggle. That was actually something she didn't know about the bat. None of Rabie's friends ever mentioned it, when they're annoying her and the others and none of the other Smiling Critters know as far she was aware. Though something still lingered in the back of her mind that made her worry.
"Well, I'm not letting you bite me and suck my blood. You might actually have rabies." The pig tells her quickly. She didn't know what the bat girl has gotten into. The bat girl almost immediately gave an offended look from across the table, Crossing her wing arms and looking away from the critter feasting on her fruit.
"My name is Rabie Baby, it doesn't mean I actually have rabies. What makes you think I have rabies anyway?" She tells her, still sounding offended and even angered that the pig would be suggesting she was a threat to people's health. She was a little menace, but she wouldn't endanger her own friends. No matter how big a grudge she had with one of them.
Picky sighs, maybe that was a little too big of an accusation. "I didn't say you did, wasn't intending to accuse. It's just that makes critters act strangely and you know bats are nocturnal, you've been out during the day a lot and stuff." She explains calmly. At least Reb didn't raise her voice, that'd be a hassle if it woke her parents. Hearing her explanation the bat recomposes herself.
"Oh ho. Okay, I understand. No, my sleep schedule is just screwed up because my friends aren't nocturnal." She tells her with a smile. "Besides, I'd be hydrophobic if that was the case. The sink's right there." She adds, gesturing toward the counter with her head.
Picky takes a glance at the counter, it was an easy test to do and she offered. What's the harm and doing it? Rabie watches the pig put down her mostly eaten apple and gave the sign to give her a minute with her hand before standing. Soon enough the chubby pig would grab and fill a cup with some water before slowly walking back over. Rabie wasn't really looking forward to this, but she supposed she asked for it when she mentioned it.
Letting out a sigh the bat nods for Picky to carry out the test. With one quick motion the liquid in the container was thrown at the Nightmare Critter's face. Instinctively Rabie flinches as she's soaked and a whine escape from her as the water runs down her face.
"Well, now my fur's wet... We good?" She asks, a little annoyed at the water. The pig critter nervously chuckles and rubs her neck. "Yeah, sorry about that. But yes, we are."
"Good." She says, going to sit down. Rabie relaxes for a moment while attempting to get the water out. She didn't like being wet most days, usually when it wasn't caused by swimming, this was one of those days where she didn't like it.
"Alright, guess I have no reason not to trust you. Have you done it with anyone else?" She asks, still a little concerned with the whole blood sucking bit.
"Oh yeah, I've done it with a couple, mostly the Nightmares. Pretty safe, heard it's even beneficial, blood comes back anyway." She informs the smiling critter nonchalantly. "Though Icky's has gotten me sick." She sticks her tongue out at the thought.
"Okay than." She says, grabbing a taking another bite of her food before tossing it into the trashcan nearby. The sound of the white furred critter's stomach growling turned their attention to it. "You want to have a little bit I guess?" She asks, with the pig's frenemy nodding eagerly. "Only a little. Just be gentle please."
Picky Piggy grabs the banana on the table, swaps the hand the fruit was in, and puts her left arm on the table. Seeing the pig's arm Rabie's eyes light up a bit. Slowly she grabs it with her wings as she opens her mouth.
Despite not really liking this idea or the sight of fangs sinking into her flesh she couldn't really help looking to see Rabie do it. The sight of her mouth fully open and showing her fangs was a little terrifying. The pain soon came as two points just above the size of pinpricks sunk into Picky's arm, right into a blood vein.
The pig yelps as the pain goes through her body with the fangs stuck in. She really didn't know how to feel about this now that they were in the middle of the process. Rabie seems to notice her distress as nothing happens for a few moments and the pain slowly but surely subsided. The bat after a little bit said something but it was a bit obstructed with the whole arm in her mouth, likely asking whether she was ready to continue, if she was ready to continue or even wanted to.
Feeling like she was a bit far to back out now she nodded. Hopefully Reb had her best interest in mind, the bat mumbles something else upon seeing her nod. Maybe that was to tell her if it was getting to be too much she'll stop. Picky decides to ask to confirm and thankfully they gave a nod, or at least tried too. Okay good, Rabie did have her interest in mind.
With that confirmation Picky feels a weird sensation as the blood in the arm rushes to the teeth in her arm. The feeling of the blood leaving her body wasn't exactly painful, but nor could she consider it pleasant. A whine left her as the bat sucked the red liquid out of her. A rush of cold filling in where it was leaving.
Looking back over to the white bat Picky saw a happy looking face on her. Content to just sit here and relax, not really a look she or the rest of the Smiling Critters saw on her or any of Rabies friends.
It was like this for about a minute or two but soon the pig began to feel a little light-headed. That can't be good.
"Rabie, Rabie. I think that's enough." She says, though the bat girl seemed a little bit disconnected at the moment. "Rabie, I'm feeling a bit light-headed." She tells her a little worried while watching the zoned-out bat. She groans a little, she didn't like this.
She didn't even really try speaking again, the piggy bumped her a few times with her other arm. In response the bat looks over at the pig, seeing her concerned face she instantly said something sounding like she was wondering what was going on.
"I'm getting a bit light-headed. Stop." Picky tells her, a flash of realization crosses her face before Rabie quickly takes her teeth out of the pig's arm. A quick surge of pain runs through her while her blood rushed to patch up the holes left in her arm
"Oh gosh I'm so sorry. I zoned out a bit." She says hurriedly, making sure the holes she left behind didn't continue to bleed. "I just felt like a bottomless pit."
"It's okay, I'm sure it was unintentional." She says weakly with a chuckle before attempting to move her arm only to be stopped. "Don't move for a minute. You're weak and we wanna make sure the wound doesn't bleed." Picky did as the bat told her, probably knew about this more than she ever could.
"Well, at least you left me with some. Kind of need that." She says slowly before letting out a giggle which was mirrored by her visitor.
"Sorry, maybe you weren't the best to take from. It seemed to have given me your appetite or something." She admits, watching Picky give her a confused look. "The blood I drink gives me a trait of the person it comes from, usually a personality trait but in your case..." She explains. "...it seemed to be something potentially more deadly." She adds, looking a little embarrassed and guilty by what just happened.
"Oh well, that's not something I expected. So... still hungry?" She asks, attempting to open the banana in her uninjured hand which the other girl helped with it. "Yeah... but it'll go away in an hour, it isn't permanent."
Nodding she watches Rabie finish and Picky takes a bite out of the fruit with a smile. "So like... was it worth it? What'd it taste like?" She asks, mainly to change the subject slightly from what just happened but also a bit curious.
A moment passes, Rabie Baby smacks her lips in thought as she considers something. After a short while she spoke. "Apple juice from the taste of it."
"Oh, I thought it would've been orange juice if anything." She says with a small snort. Quickly the bat gave a couple sniffs at the surrounding room and sure enough she picked up the scent of citrus in the room, it did seem to be stronger when facing the little piggy she just sank her teeth into moments ago. A nod quickly follows her mini-investigation. "Everyone always says I smell like oranges." A giggle escapes the pig.
"Anyway uh... am I going to turn into a vampire now?" She asks a little worried, come to think of it maybe she should've asked before agreeing to the whole blood sucking part.
"Heh, no don't worry. Vampiric critters can't turn others into vampires. Just means I can curb my hunger through blood without any stereotypical negative side-effects and stuff. Past down from my parents." She explains with a smile in order to reassure the critter that what they did won't do anything to affect her.
"Oh that's good." She says, relieved she didn't have to worry about a side-effect or explain anything. "You want the other apple?" She asks. Rabie nods before reaching over for the other red fruit and rolls it toward herself, grabbing it with both hands. It was one of her cuter tendencies, mainly out of having hard to use hands due to the bat wings. Turning the fruit around with her hands her eyes seem to sparkle, Picky could even see her salivate, vampire fruit bat?
"Is my arm good to move?" She asks, seeing that it has been a few minutes. Rabie nods, telling her that it'd been enough time for the wound to not open if she was careful with it. Her blood would regenerate completely within a week or so, Picky would just be told to take it slow especially since she's a bit weaker than others which Rabie has taken blood from due to unintentionally zoning out.
After getting the okay from her Piggy slowly peeled her banana more to continue eating. "Why'd you decide to come here anyway? Probably better options, think a few others are awake as well."
"Well... all of my friends are asleep; your little kitty friend would probably rat me out and Hoppy... well... she frightens me." She admits, twirling her apple with a finger. "I don't suck the blood of anyone without permission either and I don't wanna wake them." She adds with a smile.
"Wow, Hoppy scares you? Not quite surprised. Under those long ears is a menace of a girl if you do it right." She says, Hoppy was one critter you didn't want to have mad at you. "Guess I have a secret about you to spill if I want."
A chuckle came from the bat. "Yeah, I suppose. But yeah, I saw you were awake and thought I'd ask you or at least steal some food from you." Rabie tells her with a smile.
"Okay than." Picky says, watching the bat spin the apple around on the table as she finishes her own food. "Well, I think I'm good for bed. You should probably go." The pink critter informs, throwing the banana peel into the garbage can.
Sighing Rabie Baby goes to stand. "Okay than, you have any secrets you'd like to tell me. It's not just blood I can spill a little bit of after all." She says with a giggle, putting her wings behind her back to appear more innocent. Though the chubby pig wasn't going to be fooled by the bat's attempt at being innocent, all of the smiling critters knew her methods and that she shouldn't be trusted.
"Nah, besides I already told you my open secret."
"Ah alright, Figured I'd at least try." She says, picking up her apple with both hands and practically waddling to the door. Picky follows the brightly colored bat, turning off the light as she did. "Anyway, see ya later Piggo." Rabie says before letting herself out. Sighing Picky goes back upstairs holding her arm, feeling drained both literally and figuratively for various reasons. Thankfully though she was able to climb up to her room and flop onto her bed.
She quickly gets into her bed and covers up, now her body was able to allow her to sleep and right now she really needed it.
Before she was able to settle down and sleep her ears caught the sound of a knock on the window beside her bed. Doing a little jump she found the silhouette of a bat only a few feet from the pig's window. Even in the low light she could see the apple Rabie grabbed before she left in her mouth as she kept herself in flight with her wings, a cute childish smile on her face. She quickly waves before beginning to fly away, presumably to her own home.
Picky smiles before laying back in bed and going to sleep soon after.
