Helping A Sad Tired Dog

Summary:

For some reason Floppy is unable to sleep during a sleepover with his friends. So he gets up to see what's going

Notes:

I wanted to make a Frowning Critters story and I thought this cute little hypno story was a good way to do it. (Especially since the other story I was planning on making involving the Frowns felt a bit... wrong to do as a first story with them.) Also apparently the Frownings were created a few days ago last year (draft was created the 12th, got lazy proof reading). Almost perfect timing :)

Work Text:

Rain, muffled from the walls of the house the bunny laid inside of. It was calming even if it wasn’t at all needed, he could doze off to sleep if someone were arguing to the extent of screaming while sitting right beside him. He wasn’t exactly sure as to why that was the case though, it was just what happened.

Tonight though something was different, the bluish purple bunny couldn’t sleep. Which was strange, his sluggish brain would almost never prevent him from dozing off. He knew for a fact it wasn’t the pitter patter of the rain that kept him at the edge of his dreams, in fact it’d likely get the wrinkly pink lump in his head to let him enter his subconscious. No, it was definitely something else and not something he could pinpoint without investigating, annoyingly.

Slowly Floppy opens his eyes to the dark room, it was Dogpressed’s house, the Frowning Critters had come here for a sleepover. Vaguely the rabbit could make out their figures in the darkness mainly due to his blurry vision from being half asleep.

Somehow the lop-eared rabbit manages to prop himself up on his arms and slowly but surely looks over the group of slumbering critters. Sadly he couldn’t make out who was who, but something was definitely off.

Blinking in order to try to see better a sound came over his ear. As quick as Floppy was able he looked toward the source of the sound. A canine whimpering, specifically a girl. Was Dogpressed up? Why?

No matter what though he might’ve found the thing that’s keeping him from sleeping. He didn’t like it when any of his friends weren’t feeling well, it’s possible that’s what his brain keeps getting hung up on.

Should he check though? Getting up wasn’t really something Floppy was good at doing. Though he supposed it was his friend and not… anybody else.

He didn’t want to but since it was his friend the purple rabbit figured it was the right thing to do. Just had to get himself to stand, which in this situation would probably be the hardest thing he’s done so far in his life.

With a lot of effort he raises himself to his knees, out of his comfy spot on the floor, and eventually to his feet. Giving a little stretch as his eyes attempt to figure out who’s who. Knowing that disturbing a couple of them wasn’t a good thing.

After a minute Floppy was able to come up with a plan and begin tiptoeing his way over to the kitchen where he heard the noises. Making sure he didn’t step near Groddy, who’d very likely grab his leg and possibly make him fall over. If that happened he’d be in trouble.

Slowly but surely he makes it past the pile of 7 sleeping bodies, or was it 6? Floppy couldn’t tell, and made it to the exit of the livingroom.

His ears caught whispering and whimpering coming from the room. Looking around the corner his eyes caught sight of a blue dog and orange cat, the faint scent of rain and pumpkin spice coming from the two.

“H-Hey Dogpressed, Catfeine…? What’re you two doing?” He says with his naturally gentle tired voice. Hearing him the two girls look over at him and jump, not expecting to see the ever-sleepy bunny.

“F-Floppy? W-what are you doing up this late?” Dogpressed asks, lightly shivering, from what he was unsure.

“Oh… I couldn’t… sleep.” He says, pausing occasionally as he speaks. His response causes the duo to cock their heads at him. It would take a minute before Catfeine speaks.

“Who are you and what did you do to our friend Floppy Flopzee?” Being fair it was a reasonable question, the bunny would sooner be replaced by an alien than be unable to sleep.

“No… I’m not gonna… eat you… or something. It’s really… me.” He assures them. “Something just… felt wrong.”

“Felt wrong?” Catfeine asks, looking confused only to see the sluggish rabbit gesturing toward the dog. “Oh, okay. I guess that makes sense.” She says, Press covers her face with her ears.

“Is… everything okay Dogpressed?” Floppy asks the sad dog who doesn’t respond. “She’s afraid and can’t sleep. I’m not exactly good at sleep related stuff.” The cat tells him, Dogpressed nods at that.

“Oh well, I can help. I have… a few ideas.” He says, reaching behind his head and taking off his pendant necklace, the soft moonlight reflecting off the lightning bolt shaped to look like a Z as it hung in front of Dogpressed.

“Hypnosis?” Catfeine asks, with the other girl looking a little concerned. Floppy nods.

“Yeah, it relaxes and calms the mind. Along with other things.” He explains. “It’s completely safe… especially in a controlled environment.” He adds, seeing the blue dog’s concerned expression.

“It could work. What do you say Dogpressed? Everything else didn’t work.” The cat asks, her tail hand rubbing the pup’s back.

“I-Is it safe?” She asks, unsure how this worked at all. The times the dog had seen it in action was on TV where it wasn’t the best thing.

Floppy unintentionally yawns. “Of course… promise.” He reassures her with a genuine albeit half asleep smile Pressed shudders a little, glancing at her best friend to ask if she could hold her hand during the process which of course Catfeine agrees too.

Floppy raises the pendent in front of the dog’s face watching the girls hold hands. Once Dogpressed nods he began making it swing back and forth in front of her eyes, instructing her to follow it with her pupils, which she did. He didn’t notice the fact that Catfeine was also doing it.

“That’s good… while you watch… I want you to relax.” He says, his voice calm and soothing. The sad spaniel feeling herself calm down as her eyes watch the pendent’s journey on it’s arc.

“Feel your muscles untense each time it hits the peak.” He tells her. With that, each time the Z reaches its highest point Dogpressed would feel her muscles slowly relax beginning from her head and slowly heading down. Soon the dog’s entire body was relaxed, though she still held onto the hand of her coffee-addicted critter friend, who was also feeling the effects.

“That’s very good.” He says, Pressed seems to like the praise she was given. Happy she was doing what she was told correctly.

“Now I’d like… the worries in your head… too slowly be wiped away… when you see the Z hit the top of the arc” He instructs, swapping what the arc did to Dogpressed’s mind. The peak getting the dog to let her worries and uncertainties fade from her saddened brain.

Over the course of about a minute Dogpressed seemed to have calmed down even more due to Floppy’s soft voice, to the point she completely stops shivering. The pendant's back and forth motion wipes away all of them. Soon, they were all gone and Dogpressed was ready for the last step.

“Are they all gone?” He asks to confirm and gets a nod from both girls but only sees the pup’s answer. “Good… I’m sure you’re tired… right?” At this question the partially entranced dog nods her head with a yawn.

“Alright, now when you see the pendant… hit the top of the arc… you’ll get sleepy, each time you’ll get sleepier.” With that Dogpressed’s eyes begin to droop as the pendant hits the apex of it’s arc one side before falling back down and going back up which makes her eyelids droop more. Soon this would lead to the dog looking as if she’ll fall over.

“Good, now sleep.” He commands and without any hesitation both Dogpressed and Catfeine close their eyes completely and fall into a deep sleep.

“Good, you’re now in a trance… and will do whatever I say.” Floppy says with both nodding, holding hands like before. It was only now that Floppy notices that the hypnosis worked on both girls.

“Oh, looks like it affected both of you… oops.” He says with a yawn. He thought for a moment, it would be a little bit of a missed opportunity to not talk a little advantage of the mishap. “Catfeine will you also do whatever I say?” He asks. To which he gets a nod.

“Good, pet Dogpressed.” He says, watching as Catfeine with her tail hand pets the top of the sad spaniel’s head who, while technically mindless, currently responds to her with a small smile and a tail wag.

“Okay, Feine, hop on your tail… Pressed, twirl around.” He commands them. Catfeine immediately got on her tail, which was easily able to hold her entire weight by itself, and hops up into the air before landing right on her footpaws as she was before. Dogpressed did a little twirl, a sleepy smile on her face. After this little puppeted performance Floppy quietly claps.

“That’s really good, girls.” He says with a smile with both of them saying “Thank you Master.” quietly which Floppy wasn’t sure how to feel about.

The sleepy purple rabbit had an idea come to him. He asks Catfeine to give him her phone which she pulls out of her pocket and hands it to him without question. He unlocks it and goes to the camera.

“Alright, I want you two to kiss.” He tells them. He knows they both loved each other. They were just too nervous to kiss and make it official, so Floppy had the thought that if he got them to kiss maybe they’d decide to try it out.

Was it immoral to do this? Yes, could his plan go horribly wrong? Absolutely. Though if there was one thing that Floppy shared with his cousin it’s that neither really thought their plans through completely before beginning with executing it.

Both girls respond to the command by turning to face each other before giving the other a small kiss on the mouth which Floppy takes a picture of. A quiet giggle left him when doing so.

“That’s good… you two, thanks.” He tells them and they go back to looking at the bunny. He walks up to Catfeine before speaking again.

“Catfeine, when I touch your nose… I want you to fall back… into trance.” He says with the cat nodding in understanding his order

“Good, wake up.” He says. On command Catfeine lightly shakes her head and yawns. “Uh… what happened?”

“I may have… accidentally hypnotized you.” He explains.

“Oh, than it looks like I was caught in the crossfire. What’d you make me do?” She says quickly, knowing that hypnosis could make her do anything and she wouldn’t be surprised he made her do at least something.

“Oh just a few… tests, and this.” He says with a nervous grin as he hands Catfeine her phone back. She takes it, confused as to why Floppy had her phone and what he did with it. At least she was confused until she unlocked it and saw the picture that it was left on it. At which point her eyes widened and a blush spread across her face.

“Flops, why do I have a picture of me and Presso kissing on my phone?” She asks, looking between the phone and him.

“Plan not… entirely thought through.” He says, scratching his head while Feine looked like she wanted more explaining. “Was hoping it’d give… you two… the confidence too… try out a relationship… or something.” He adds. “You can delete and ignore it… if you want… It was stupid.”

The coffee addicted cat shakes her head. He really did act like his cousin sometimes, even if his brain was 5 times slower and tired. “It’s okay, you have good intentions, Flops.” She says. “I’m only 13 though I don’t think I'm ready for that.” She admits, looking down at the picture. “We are cute though…” She adds, was she really thinking about this? That’s something to think over later, not tonight.

“Anyway… you want to make her… do anything?” Floppy says, wanting to change the subject away from his stupid plan that seems to have backfired.

Thankfully for him that seemed to get Feine’s mind off the picture on her phone and to her best friend who was still standing in the middle of the kitchen in a trance. She had to admit it was surreal to see Dogpressed with a completely neutral blank expression. Usually she was down in the dumps and would have to be cheered up. Which would usually only last an hour.

“That’s very weird to witness.” She mentions. “Dogpressed, can you tell me why you couldn’t sleep?” She asks, not exactly sure if she’d respond when Floppy hypnotized her. To her delight though the pup did.

“Afraid, thunder. Sad thoughts, I also had a nightmare.” She admits, that was way more info than she had given in the last 20 minutes. Catfeine smiled at this. “It’s okay, I’m here. I always will be.” Feine assures her, giving the dog’s mindless body a hug.

“Yep, and when I tell you… you’ll go back to sleep… and have very good dreams… you’ll only hear the rain… not the thunder and lightning.” Floppy tells her and the blue spaniel nods to his command. “Yeah, for tonight I only have happy thoughts and think of happy memories.” Catfeine adds, once again the blue dog nods her head. “Yes Master, yes Mistress.”

“Dang, did I say that too?” Feine asks, receiving a nod. “That must’ve sounded weird.” She adds, not exactly sure how to feel about being called mistress herself. “Presso, give me a small bark.” she tells her, with the dog giving a low bark. Catfeine giggles at her, liking the sound of Pressed barking.

“We should do this sometime, not after midnight. I think it’d be fun.” She says with a smile, thinking the idea of being mindless was interesting, and that Presso would like to not have her mind flooded with uncertainties and depressing thoughts all the time.

“Yeah… I wouldn’t mind… long as you two want to, we can set it up…” Floppy says with his signature sleepy smile. “Cool.”

“Pressed, why don’t you give Catfeine… a little piggyback ride.” He tells her. Hearing his request Dogpressed leans forward so the coffee cat can climb on. Eyes lighting up Catfeine quickly hopped on the dog’s back. Once secured, the duo walk around the room a little.

Catfeine pets her as they walk for a minute before coming to a stop back where they started. “Alright, I think it’s time… for bed.” He says as Catfeine got off her friend’s back. Before she is able to react Floppy comes up and touches her nose, causing her to fall asleep on the spot and her tail to fall to the floor. Rendering both girls in a mindless trance in front of Floppy.

“Dogpressed, go back to… where you were before this… and go to sleep.” He tells her, without hesitation the dog nods and says “Yes Master, go back to bed, go to sleep.” in a sleepy peaceful voice and pads her way back to her bed. Leaving him with a sleeping kitty standing before him.

He walks up to Catfeine and rubs her ear, an action she seemed to like. “Why don’t you… go snuggle with her.” He says, he didn’t need to tell her to do that. In fact he was sure Catfeine would go cuddle with her without even being asked. She did like comforting in any way possible and they often cuddled each other while they slept. But he wanted to do it anyway.

“Yes Master, I’ll go to bed and snuggle with Dogpressed.” She says with a smile in the same way her best friend did a moment prior. Floppy giggles as he watches the entranced girl follow Dogpressed into the other room. That was fun, though next time he has to change it so he’s not being called Master. Either way, maybe that’s satisfying enough for him to sleep again.

So with that he follows his mindless friends and heads back to his spot on the floor. Smiling seeing the cat and dog together on the couch asleep Catfeine specifically looking like she was being used as a teddy bear. He hears the canine girl kissing the cat’s head occasionally as well.

With that cute sight he lays down and with the rain alongside the snoring from the duo.Floppy easily fell right back to sleep.
