“What a fucking day!” Touya all but exclaimed in a way of saying hello, shutting door to the flat.
Keigo, who was standing in a kitchen and preparing dinner, sighed. Whenever Touya came back home, he had a several different ways of greeting him. At some point Keigo became a pro at distinguishing his boyfriend’s mood, even if all he received was a plain ‘hey’. Though, judging by the shouting, today arranged for him either an amusing or a traumatic experience.
Since Touya was allowed to go out without any supervision, he had so many unusual adventures, that Keigo suspected his life was a never-ending gag. Just last week he had a beef with some stray cat, because it hissed at him, so naturally Touya had to hiss back. Said cat was now sleeping in their living room on a big, fluffy pillow.
“Good evening, hot stuff,” he greeted, not looking away from the cooker. He listened to Touya’s angry movements, taking off shoes and coat and putting them, where they belonged. The man wasn’t fuming, which was a good sign. Otherwise, he would just dump the clothes wherever and worry about them later. He was mumbling something, but sadly Keigo wasn’t able to decipher what exactly.
Finally, he joined him in their little kitchen. Keigo observed his dramatic performance of slumping on the chair, leaning over the table and hiding his face in his arms with a raised eyebrow.
“What happened this time?” he asked warily, as he stopped stirring the soup and walked closer to the man. He placed his palm between his shoulder blades and rubbed gently.
Touya wasn’t comforted by the gesture. Instead, he sat up straight abruptly, which made Keigo’s hand fall of his back. Noted, no touching for now. What he could do, was take a good look of Touya’s face and boy oh boy, what a sight it was. His cheeks were as red as his wings or maybe more. His lips were pressed into a thin line, and it seemed that he was about to explode. When he met his eyes he saw pure anguish.
“Fucking Shouto happened,” he sounded, as if he was accusing someone of committing a heinous crime. Oh, Keigo got it. It was going to be an amusing story. Amusing for him, traumatising for Touya, that is. “I was supposed to pick up a package for him from post office, because he said he was busy. So, I did just that,” he began agonised.
Keigo walked back to the cooker, to watch if the miso soup, he was reheating, wasn’t boiling. Also, he reckoned that being in safe distance from Touya was more than advisable at the moment.
“Look at how good of a brother you are,” he commented optimistically, taking a spoon and stirring the soup. The pained groan Touya let out made him chuckle. Well, that was it for keeping up the serious façade.
“So, I went to his flat, to drop it off, like he wanted me to, right” he breathed out, exhausted from reliving the events. “And guess what I’m seeing there”.
“Dunno, your brother?” he offered, spinning around to see him again. He spotted Touya’s face and his aggrieved expression deepening. Shame his phone was charging, he would have taken a picture and set it as his wallpaper.
“I wish it was only him, but he was with his boyfriend,” he groaned, putting his hands in his hair and massaging his scalp.
That was it? Shouto and his boyfriend? That bugged him so badly? Well, how anticlimactic.
“And how’s that bad exactly?” he wondered sceptically. Did Touya forget he was gay too?
“Do I have to spell it for you, you dumb bird?” he was properly mad, but the insult was uncalled for in Keigo’s opinion. He wasn’t a mind reader. “They were fucking shagging”.
Oh. Oh my.
Keigo looked at his flushed face for a full second before bursting out laughing. Okay, now he understood it completely. Still, he couldn’t help but crack up more. He threw his head back and clutched his sides, as they began to hurt. Oh, that was golden. Both amusing and traumatising.
“Fucking stop, it’s not funny!” Touya exclaimed, now with even tips of his ears red, trying to outyell the loud laughter.
The attempt failed, as Keigo didn’t, in fact, stop. He straight up guffawed, while surely and steadily collapsing onto the floor. He didn’t have enough power to keep standing. Through his teary eyes he saw Touya looking up to the skies, perhaps pleading to give him strength to deal with all of this.
“Wha- Did you- Oh dear-“ he aimed to ask a question, though he couldn’t utter a word without chortling, let alone form a sentence.
Another hit of laughter overtook his body, as he lay on cold tiles, trying to support himself into a sitting position, but to no avail. His wings curled around him, so he looked like a feathery tortilla. At last, he heard Touya joining him in his amusement, at first letting out giggles and then beautiful full blown laughter. Here they were, two nitwits laughing their ass off in a kitchen, as the soup was boiling.
Fuck! The soup was boiling! With remnants of his strength Keigo moved his arm and successfully turned off the ring.
“And you know what the worst was?” Touya enquired, having calmed down a tad. “That they were apparently exploring their kinks and now I know that my little brother has a thing for ropes,” he sounded so devastated, that Keigo couldn’t help but burst out again.
“So, it runs in the family,” he managed to articulate and watched his beloved burn red for… actually he lost the track how many times did Touya get embarrassed during their conversation.
“Takami Keigo, if you utter another word, I will rip out your wings feather by feather and then set them on fire,” he threatened and Keigo believed him.
He contained his amusement as best as he could, inhaling and exhaling slowly to regulate his breath. Eventually, he stood up, to see if he messed up their dinner. Thankfully no damage was done. Keigo run his palm through his face, wiping off his tears. Oh, he couldn’t recall when he had a good laugh like that. No, scratch that, actually he did know. Three days ago, Fuyumi sent him a video of Natsuo scaring the shit out of Touya as a prank.
“Did you make it?” Touya asked impatiently, snapping Keigo out of his memories, pointing at the pot. Okay, so the previous topic was officially closed.
“And what if I did?” he challenged, getting two bowls out of a cupboard.
“Do you remember last time you made katsudon?” he reminded, still sitting on the chair, not bothering to help.
Keigo rolled his eyes. “With you reminding me of it every single time I enter the kitchen, it’s kinda hard to forget,” he smiled brightly, which made his boyfriend scoff. “Your mum gave us a whole jar of miso last time we visited her, forgot already?”
Touya grumbled something under his nose, however Keigo didn’t bother to know what for his own peace of mind. Instead, he filled their bowls with warm soup and soon they were eating and chatting about how their days went.
Domestic moments like that belonged to his favourite. Being able to sit with Touya in their kitchen and eat dinner was something he thought would never happen. Not so long ago their situation was unbelievably different from the current one. Ah, he better ought to not go over the past. All's well that ends well.
Miso was delicious. Rei’s cooking was truly brilliant. No wonder Touya made wonders in kitchen himself. After dinner he started to wash the dishes and Touya went to have a shower. They didn’t share this one, like they usually had done. Before Keigo started to prepare the food, he already showered and walked around in just his sweatpants for sleeping. And slippers.
When the chore was done, he checked if their still sleeping cat had something to eat and after refilling the bowls, he washed his hands and headed towards their bedroom. The room was cool, since a window was slightly opened, letting the night breeze in. Though it didn’t matter, once Touya would come in, the temperature would increase. Sometimes Keigo was jealous of this ability of his. He was constantly freezing, especially while flying, hence he always wore his thick flying jacket. It is what it is, he guessed. No matter how amazing his boyfriend’s quirk was it also came with lots of disadvantages. He opened the chest of drawers, in order to look for an ointment for Touya’s burns.
His condition was getting better each and every day. With right treatment the purple scars became to alter its colour to healthier and not so gangreneish. Though they wouldn’t disappear completely, it was a nice change, since Touya’s skin hurt significantly less and he didn’t complain about the chronic pain, as much as he used to. He even decided to ditch the staples, they were more of a visual anyways. He kept his ears and nose piercing though.
When Keigo found the right bottle, Touya entered the room, wearing his underwear. He was still covered in droplets of water, though they would vaporise quickly because of his quirk.
“How you feeling babe?” Keigo checked, watching Touya sit at the centre of their bed, crossing his legs. He joined him soon enough, kneeling behind him, so he had access to his widest scars. He unscrewed the bottle, put some ointment on his palms and proceeded to rub the balm onto his dried, warm skin.
“Could be worse,” he shrugged, ever so optimistic. He sighed, relaxing his shoulders, as Keigo worked on them, which made him smile.
Pampering Touya had to belong to his top 5 activities ever. Keigo’s calloused hands run up and down his damaged back, as they were destined to do so. He loved taking care of him. In moments like that he truly got to cherish the amount of trust Touya was putting in him. As a reward he got to assist him at his most vulnerable. His heart rejoiced.
To quicken the process Touya began to apply the salve into burns on his long legs with his left hand. Ah, he was being cooperative today, Keigo guessed. Most of the times it was only him, who massaged the medicament onto his skin, which usually ended in his boyfriend dozing off. Help was very appreciated and Keigo wouldn’t dream questioning it. Never look a gift horse in the mouth or something. Instead, he dutifully spread the balm over his right arm.
“I forgot to tell you” he broke the comforting silence, which fallen between them once they started the procedure. “Fuyumi called me today and invited us to a dinner on Saturday”.
Touya finished treating his legs and spun his head around so fast, that something in his neck snapped. Keigo sent him a quizzical look at seeing a downright betrayed expression painting over his face.
“Did she now?” he spat, moving so now he was facing Keigo. “I literally saw her today after the Shouto incident,” he explained somewhat pained and shuddered at the memory, he was trying so hard to forget.
“Did you tell her about it?” Keigo pressed on, grinning, already guessing what Touya’s issue this time was, though before confronting him, he wanted to wind him up a tad more.
A huff came from the other’s mouth. It sounded so sardonic, that Keigo wanted to laugh. “Who do you think I am? Of course I did,” he rolled his eyes, exasperated.
Keigo folded his hand and put his wrist on his sides, so he wouldn’t put ointment on himself. Watching how worked up Touya got over Fuyumi calling him instead was as adorable as it was entertaining. He really screamed big brother vibes, even if he wasn’t aware of it. At least he assumed that how big brothers behaved, who was he to talk being an only child. He shook his head and decided to feed him with more speculations.
“Maybe she was in shock too,” he suggested, which made Touya cringe.
“She instantly called Natsu because she couldn’t bear him being excluded on the matter,” he deadpanned and now Keigo understood from whom Shouto took after his deduction skills.
“Maybe she told me because I’m the favourite brother now,” he teased, leaning closed, so he was a few centimetres away from Touya’s face, nearly touching his nose with his. He really enjoyed that his small comment made him blush and eyes widen.
“We’re not married yet,” he grumbled, suddenly so bashful, as if he realised his own antics and Keigo was here for it. But it was too late to retreat now.
“Oh?” a sly grin on his gracing his mouth. “Are you about to propose, now? Should have told me, I’d wear something nicer,” he continued, feeling mirthful.
Suddenly he felt two strong hands pushing back him and he landed on bed, in time folding his wings, so they wouldn’t bother him, while lying. Touya caged his head with his elbows, hovering over him. He guessed the revenge was inevitable. Not that he complained, when the man spread his legs and placed himself between them.
“You’re so annoying,” he whispered rudely, despite his gentle gaze, as he placed his palms on Keigo’s cheeks and squished them.
“And you’re my sweet jealous baby,” he retorted back with his voice kind of muffled, always too smart and cheeky for his own good.
Touya wasn’t bothered as much, judging by how he leaned forward to close the gap between them. Keigo sighed content and placed his hands around his neck, pulling him even closer. This was a soft, long kiss, the one which awoke butterflies in his stomach and made him want to giggle and kick his feet.
He closed his eyes, focusing on the tender touch admits their lips. All the teasing comments dissolved in his brain and the empty spot after them was filled with how pleased he was. He felt Touya’s finger stroking his cheek, causing him to let out a hum, which was immediately swallowed by his mouth.
The kiss lasted a few second, but once Touya pulled back, Keigo was a panting mess. This time it was his time to grin smugly, which he obviously did.
“Just for the record, I will propose to you,” he assured, as he put a strand of Keigo’s hair behind his ear.
Keigo’s astonishment wasn’t prolonged, as he quickly followed the example. “How romantic,” he ridiculed, bracing himself for consequences of his further mockery.
He didn’t wait long, until Touya all but fell down on him, his pointy jaw landing perfectly on Keigo’s sternum and knocking the air out of his lungs. After he was able to breathe again, he glared at his boyfriend, who didn’t look a tad apologetic. Typical.
“Why are you so insufferable?” Touya asked trying to sound dejected, though his voice was too cheerful. Also, what was going on with the audacity, as if he wasn’t the one to leave him breathless.
“You love me though,” Keigo replied dreamily, as Touya moved his head, so now he was pressing his cheek on his chest.
“Debatable,” he said, exhaling, his eyes mischievous, which resulted in Keigo sticking his tongue out at him.
“So when can I expect it?” he wouldn’t let the subject of his upcoming engagement that easily. He manoeuvred his wings, so now they were embracing Touya. Thankfully the ointment had already been absorbed, before he put his feathers around him, otherwise the unpleasant experience of cleaning them would await them.
“I’m not telling you that, it’s going to be a surprise,” he stated.
“Huh. Then maybe I’ll propose to you instead,” he announced and Touya immediately supported himself on his hands.
“You wouldn’t dare,” he warned, looking dangerous with eyes squinted and furrowed eyebrows. Keigo lifted his head and planted a big kiss right between them.
“Try me,” he challenged and let out a soft chuckle, as Touya’s lips covered his own.
None of them suspected that they both already bought engagement rings for one another and had them hidden, waiting for the right moment. Which would come sooner or later. Rather sooner. After all both of them had something to prove now.
