How I wish I could tell you

Summary:

“Did you skipped your check up for our last mission?”
Rex as well as Commander Tano and Skywalker seemed rather confused by this question, but Wooley had a knowing look on his face, as if he already knew what was wrong.
Cody didnʻt wanted to tell him the truth, that he indeed had skipped the check up, but it seemed his mouth had a mind of his own.
“Yes.”, Cody gritted out, a little defensive.
“Yes.”, Obi-Wan said sheepishly.
Codyʻs head whipped around, as he realized he had spoken at the same moment at the General. And whenever Obi-Wan admitted skipping his physicals then something was really wrong, because the Stewjoni would rather die than to admit this.

------
Obi-Wan and Cody get hit with a truth serum, forcing the men to talk about their feelings.

Work Text:

Cody was a good liar, he always had been, being a stark contrast to most of his brothers as they were the worst liars heʻd ever seen. Especially Bly and Rex were exemplary bad liars and coudnʻt lie for their lives, they had just no pokerface.

Though lying was not something which would be taught to clones, not telling the truth was quite a useful skill. Sometimes there were just some things that would rather remain unsaid. For example telling Waxer everyone how much Cody liked his new totally not legal tooka, after all the commander had a reputation to maintain. Or Cody telling his brothers how ridiculous good looking the General was, because that would be inappropriate. Or shouting at Skywalker that his plans were reckless and dangerous, even though that would be very satisfying.

Some things just couldnʻt be said out loud, no matter how much he wanted to.

“As I said, my plan worked well though I admit we had to improvise…”, Skywalker explained in his usual obnoxious tone.
Cody, General Kenobi, Wooley, Skywalker, Commander Tano and Rex were just debriefing each other concerning their last campaign, which had been a joined mission of the 501st and the 212th.
While Torrent Company had been taking down a droid outpost, the General, Cody and Wooley, newly promoted ARC, had had a meeting with the local leaders, hoping to get them to join the Republic. After many hours of cultural rites and ceremonies, the locals had actually agreed and had even allowed them to use this place for a new medical station.
But not everything had went according to plan…

“With that he meant a big explosion.”, chimed Commander Tano in, grinning smugly.
“Something like that.”, admitted Skywalker unbothered, “So, tell me, how did you fare, my old Master? Had a nice chat with the locals? Letting me do the hard job as usual.”

Fury burned in Codyʻs veins as he heard Skywalkers words, on the one hand the anger was fueled by the carelessness, which the kid had. He was in charge of thousands of lives and with his attitude, he was knowingly endangering Codyʻs brothers. And he was endangering his vodʻika with this jaro!
On the other hand, his fury was ignited by the way the kid talked to Obi-Wan. Skywalker had no honor. He was a chaavla sa shebs be'striili.

Oh would you just shut your mouth!”
Every head suddenly turned to Cody and it took him embarrassingly long to realize, that
he had just said that, that he had just snapped at General Anakin Skywaker, the hero without fear . Oh kriff.
“Cody?
What… ”, Rexʻs voice seemed to have gone a whole octave higher.
Cody wholeheartedly agreed with the sentiment, what had just happened? Why the kriff had he just admonished a Jedi?
He should apologize to Skywalker, that would be the best way, even though he
wouldn´t really mean it. It was not like the kid wasnʻt deserving that. But for decency's sake, Cody would apologi z es, so he opened his mouth.

But instead of an apology these words blurted out: “Itʻs true. Your “normal” plans are reckless at best and deadly at worst, kid. And when you improvise, good men get hurt. And now you have the audacity to speak against the General, who already has enough on his plate! Donʻt you know, how badly he already struggles with his self worth? How much he doubts himself, thinks he is not good enough? And then you come along, with your hotheaded attitude and just make everything worse!” Then Cody added: “And one thing. If you ever again force push my vodʻika down a kriffing wall, I will do the same with you!”

For a moment there was silence, the only sounds which could be heard was their breathing and the quiet sounds of the holoscreen.
The first one to break the silence was Wooley, who tried to hide his a laugh, by coughing, but only succeed in a mediocre way. Skywalker was too stunned to say anything, so it was Rex, who spoke first. He grabbed Cody by the arm, his eyes wide in disbelief of what just had happened, his voice way too high, almost a whisper: “Cody, what… Why?”
“I donʻt know.”, Cody muttered, truly just as stunned as his vodʻika.

“I might have an answer for that. But in order to prove my theory I need to test something.”, Wooley announced, giving Cody a questioning look, clearly asking for permission.
“Do it, trooper.”, the black haired clone ordered.
The ARC nodded, then he asked: “Did you skipped your check up for our last mission?”

“Thatʻs enough proof I think.”, Wooley sounded a bit smug, “Splint is going to have a field day, when we tell him.”
“Tell him what?”, Rex sounded a bit worried.
“That we`ve got another case of truth serum.”

Cody swore under his breath.
“Truth serum?”, Commander Tano echoed.
“Another case?”, Skywalker asked.
“I might fear, we do have to explain some things to you.”, Obi-Wan admitted, his cheeks blushed red with embarrassment, which was a beautiful sight to behold. What other pretty colors could Obi-Wan blush?
Cody had to stop his mind from going down that particular rabbit hole, because otherwise he might pull Obi-Wan close and kiss him senseless, right in front of the others.
Ever since the first incident with the truth serum Cody had realized that he had fallen head over heels for his commanding officer, and though he was trying to hide his feelings , it was really hard sometimes. Like now for example.

Think about the truth serum, Cody told himself, took a deep breath and then addressed Wooley: “How is that even possible?”
“The most likely solution is that they put the truth serum into our food, after all we all ate from the same pot. I assume the locals wanted to be sure about our true intentions.”, explained the ARC.
“Great.”, Cody sighed, “Three new patients for Splint.”
“Exactly.”

“You still havenʻt answered my question!”, Skywalker stated, “What did you mean with again?”
Cody had to stop himself from spilling any secrets of Obi-Wan, knowing the red head would not appreciate.
Yet Cody opened his mouth, though he tried to fight it very hard, wanting to keep the secrets of the Stewjon a secret, but before a word came out of his mouth, Rex suddenly said: “I think we should get these three into the medbay first, Sir. We donʻt know what kind of serum it is and if it is poisonous or has side effects.”
“Heʻs right Skyguy.”, agreed Commander Tano, “They should see a medic.”
Never in his live Cody had been so thankful for his vodʻika and his little Commander, gladly taking this idea as a distraction: “They are right, Sir. We should go to see Splint. I will send for Waxer and Boil to meet with you, general Skywalker, they had been involved in the last incident.”
Of course Cody would first debrief his trusted brothers, to not give Skywalker any details about what Obi-Wan had told them last time. “They will tell you everything you need to know, Sir. General Kenobi, Wooley letʻs head for the medbay.”

Of course Splint was about as happy about the whole incident as Wooley had predicted, ordering the three men to stay in the medbay for at least until tomorrow, so the medic could monitor their health. Neither Cody nor Obi-Wan were happy about this forced timeout, but contradicting a medic was never a good idea, so they agreed to stay. Wooley was actually quite happy about some free time, using it for reading a holonovel on his datapad, while Obi-Wan tried to meditate on one of the cots.

Cody sat down next to his General and even though the clone tried not to, he caught himself watching the man in next to him intently. Obi-Wanʻs coppery red hair was not as neat as usual, but rather ruffled from the latest mission, framing his face like a fiery halo. Cute freckles were scattered on his cheeks, his seemingly soft lips parted slightly as he tried to concentrate on his meditation.
For Cody the Stewjon was the most beautiful person in the whole galaxy and one of the kindest and understanding as well. Obi-Wan was also funny, even when he didnʻt try to, being able to make Cody laugh.

“Cody?”, the voice of Obi-Wan caught him off guard, as the Jedi opened his eyes.
“Yes?”, Cody asked a bit embarrassed by the fact that he had been caught staring, but Obi-Wan was kind enough to not rub it under his nose. They were rather close to each other now, their face only inches apart, but it seemed like neither of them wanted to get more space between them.
“Thank you for standing up for me, Cody.”, Obi-Wan almost whispered, his voice grateful and warm and rich like honey.
“Anytime.”, Codyʻs voice was just a whisper as well, fearing he might destroy this moment, if he spoke louder.
“I really mean it, dear.” Cody thought he was able to feel Obi-Wanʻs breath against his face, as the red head talked, “Thank you for fighting for me.”
“I would fight the whole universe for you, Obi-Wan.”, Cody declared passionately, the truth serum helping him to say these words.
“I would do the same for you.”
“Even though Iʻm just a clone?”, Cody asked feeling slightly insecure.

“I promise you Cody, there is nothing in this universe I wouldnʻt do for you.”, Obi-Wan promised fervently, “I would fight the whole universe for you, if youʻd ask me to. I would give you everything, I would sacrifice my life for you. I would even forsake the Jedi-Code for you.”
Codyʻs heart skipped a beat, a thought crossed his mind, that this couldnʻt be true, that he´d just misheard.
But both of them were still affected by the truth serum, easing the words out of them. Cody had never dared to hope Obi-Wan would reciprocate his feelings, but now the red head had just told him he would break the Jedi-Code for Cody, given the chance.

“I love you Cody.”, Obi-Wan whispered, his eyes were gleaming with tears of happiness.
Cody couldnʻt think, his mind just repeating the Stewjoniʻs words over and over, so the clone acted on instinct only. He closed the distance between them, pressing his lips to Obi-Wanʻs in a kiss.
At first Cody feared the Jedi would pull away, but to his surprise, the red head returned the kiss eagerly.

After a few moments they broke apart both panting and gasping for air.
“I love you too.”, Cody confessed passionately, “I always have.”
Obi-Wan didnʻt answer, just pulling Cody in for another kiss. But this kiss was nothing like the first kiss. While the first had been tenderly, testing the waters, this one was more passionate and deeper. Obi-Wanʻs tongue slipped over Codyʻs lips, seeking for entrance, so Cody opened his lips, letting the other man slip his tongue into his mouth. Cody moaned at the sensation of it, pressing his body closer to Obi-Wan feeling the strong body of the other against his own. Kriff, this was feeling amazing, Cody thought hazily.

“Get a room!”, a voice suddenly called behind them.
The two of them jerked backwards, only to see Splint standing in front of them with a slightly annoyed expression on his face.
“It is not what...”, Obi-Wan started but the medic just cut him off: “I actually donʻt want to know. As long as you have consent, condoms and lube, I donʻt care. Just donʻt have your makeout sessions in the medbay.”
“Yes Splint, it wonʻt happen again.”, promised Cody, his head corrie red.
“I hope so.”, stated the medic, then he turned around, leaving them alone.

“So, what does that mean for us?”, Cody asked.
“We better not let Splint catch us again?”, Obi-Wan joked
“No I meant for us.”, Cody felt a bit shy, “Iʻm not too familiar with relationships.”
“What do you want, love?”
“I want to be at your side, I donʻt want this to be some onetime thing.”
“I donʻt want this either.”, Obi-Wan admitted, “Cody, would you like to be my boyfriend?”
“Yes, I very much liked that.”, Cody said and then pulled his new boyfriend into a kiss.
