The sun rose over the ocean, waves of seafoam carrying the sunlight through the windows of the ship. The men were sleeping in their bunks soundly, though Sanji was the first to be hit by the blinding morning lights. He lay there for a moment, basking in the warm glow of the light.
After a moment, he let his eyes open.
And to his shock, the first thing he saw was not the edges of his bunk or the wall, it was Zoro. Sanji faintly recalled that last night, Zoro had gotten incredibly drunk and came to bed far later than everyone else. So, based on assumption, Zoro must have just fallen asleep in Sanji’s bunk. They often slept together anyway, so it must have been a habit. Still, Sanji hadn’t expected it.
“Zoro,” Sanji whispered, gently poking at Zoro’s cheek with his index finger. Zoro stayed still, sleeping soundly. “Zorroooo…..” He mumbled, getting slightly annoyed at the man’s deep slumber. Sanji poked him a little more in an attempt to wake him.
Finally, he saw Zoro’s eyebrow twitch before a single eye peeked open.
“Mmgh…” He groaned out in annoyance, presumably because the sunlight was shining directly down on them. Zoro pushed his face against Sanji’s chest to hide his eyes from the bright light.
“Good morning,” Sanji murmured with a light chuckle, combing his fingers through Zoro’s short hair. “Sleep well?”
“Mmmmsuree…” Zoro mumbled against Sanji’s chest, tossing an arm over Sanji’s side to nuzzle up closer to him. “Thirsty.”
The more Zoro tiredly grumbled out single words, Sanji started to catch on. He was hungover. Of course, he’d be, he had a dozen beers ( maybe not a dozen, but to Sanji, it looked it). If Zoro’d let him, he’d fix the swordsman something to cure him. But with the way Sanji was being clung onto, he probably wouldn’t be able to get out of bed for a while.
When Zoro groaned out again and tried to bury his face further against Sanji, he could only assume that a headache had kicked in. Zoro’s face scrunched up, followed by another low groan.
“If you get off me, baby koala, I can get you something to drink,” Sanji offered.
Instead of words, Zoro responded by tightening his grip on Sanji’s side. So he took that as answer enough.
“We’re gonna have to get up eventually,” he whispered to Zoro softly, his eyes flicking to the other bunks in sight. Brook and Chopper would probably be waking up soon enough. And when they woke up, so did the others, which meant Sanji had to make breakfast. If he stayed snuggled up in bed with Zoro for any longer, he wouldn’t have the proper time to prepare.
But either way, Sanji was content just lying here with Zoro. He normally got up much earlier than Zoro, giving them even less time to cuddle. So when they got a few minutes, he’d relish it, basking in the enveloping warmth of Zoro’s embrace. It was a comfort he didn’t know he needed until he had it. And now that he did, he’d never waste a second of it.
Sanji brushed short strands of Zoro’s hair back before leaning down and kissing his forehead. He felt Zoro smile against his chest, so he pressed a few more kisses along his hairline.
“Stop tryna’ get me up,” Zoro said, finally pulling his face back to gaze up at Sanji.
“Not trying,” Sanji responded with a grin, leaning down to capture Zoro’s lips in a gentle kiss. “Just tryin’ to do that,” he said as they pulled apart.
“Whatever you say,” Zoro chuckled softly, planting his forehead against Sanji’s chest again.
