Work Text:

"Ughhhh…"

Her head hurt. But as Yoshino tried to sit up, a hand landed on her shoulder, pressing her down to the ground. The arm connected to it was familiar… as was the smiling face that entered her field of vision.

"Kirishima?"

"Don't move. You'll be okay."

Belatedly, she realized that she was lying on the ground. Her back felt cold, but when she looked at herself, she was covered by Kirishima's coat. And then she looked back at him.

"Hey, aren't you cold? What are you up to now?"

She tried to pull the coat off herself to offer it back to him, but he shook his head.

"Keep it. Inamori's getting me another one. What's the last thing you remember?"

The last thing she remembered? Yoshino frowned slightly as she tried to remember, but it just made the pounding in her head worse. So what if she started earlier?

It was a Saturday, so they'd been planning to go on a date. She'd been making a point to do it fairly regularly to try to keep him under control before he got any particularly crazy ideas. Even so, he could be quite aggravating, though she couldn't figure out what he was trying to do this time. But she'd finished her preparations and was just going out to meet up with him, and then…

A wave of nausea suddenly overwhelmed her, and she turned her head away from him before her stomach heaved. Sour acid burned her throat as she vomited, vaguely aware of Kirishima pulling her hair back, out of the way, as he spoke to her reassuringly.

"It's okay. Let it all out. And don't push yourself to remember, if you can't."

"... I brought your coat."

Another familiar voice interrupted them, and Yoshino groaned. She didn't want anyone else to see her like this, and the smell of her vomit made her stomach turn, bringing on another wave of heaving.

"Thanks. Sorry to ask this of you, but can you help clean this up? And bring some water for her to drink, or at least wash out her mouth. They said not to move her and to try to keep her comfortable. It does seem like she might have a concussion."

They? A concussion?

"Yeah, of course. I'll be right back."

As Inamori left again, a few pieces clicked into place, and Yoshino groaned again, starting to squirm as Kirishima continued to pin her down.

"I don't wanna go to a hospital. I'm fine," she protested, even though she clearly was not. But it couldn't be that bad! She just needed a bit of rest, some good food, and it would all work out in the end. It usually did.

Except Kirishima was shaking his head. His smile hadn't faltered in the least, but it wasn't like he listened to her most of the time, anyways. And she did feel bad about making this more difficult for him, but… she just really didn't like hospitals. Especially for something like this…

"I slipped, didn't I?"

He paused, apparently considering how to respond, before he nodded.

"I think so, on some ice. I don't think you were out for very long, but I called an ambulance just in case. And especially since you were sick, I'd really like to get you checked out, with some scans. If it turns out you've got a subdural hematoma or something and you end up dying on me, I don't know how I could possibly explain it to Renji-san."

Being reminded of her grandfather made her sigh. Kirishima was right, especially in light of the excuse they'd come up with to send her to Tokyo and all the crazy shit he'd done in the name of protecting her. This wasn't his fault, but that didn't matter. This had happened on his watch, and if she did end up dying, Renji would probably demand that he slice his stomach as an apology… and Kirishima would probably happily comply.

So she didn't try to argue any further as Inamori returned and wiped up her mess while Kirishima trickled water into her mouth. It did feel a little better to wash out the sour taste, but she tensed again as the paramedics finally appeared with a stretcher.

Blindly, she reached out for Kirishima, and he seemed to understand what she wanted, placing his hand into hers so she could squeeze it tightly, his smile brightening despite the circumstances.

"Don't leave me alone."

"I won't. I promise."
