Logan was restless, there wasn’t a specific reason; well, there was a reason, he just avoided acknowledging it, his nightmares lately had been much more vivid so he was on edge, and the weather didn’t help. The cold of the season made his Adamantium bones ache; it wasn’t agonizing but it was a dull, annoying pain that wouldn't leave him alone.
That’s why he found himself walking around the kitchen at 2 AM. His footsteps sounded heavy against the wooden tiles of the floor, courtesy of his 300 lb body, metal skeleton, and muscle. A beer adorned his hand; some people used tea against insomnia, but for Logan, the answer had to be alcohol, of course.
Still, nothing seemed to calm his nerves. The cigarettes he loved so much had run out, much to his misfortune. What the hell.
Back in their bedroom, Wade stirred awake and slowly opened his eyes, he was so not-pleasingly surprised when he extended his hand in bed and found the other side not only empty but also cold. He sat up with a grunt and tried to listen if the bathroom was being used; nothing. So, he got up in search of his boyfriend. It was super late, worry settling on his chest; he had to get him to bed before a spirit appeared and killed them! In reality, he has noted how tense Logan seemed to be, and he wanted to be helpful.
Wade moved slowly; he didn’t know how he managed to do so without tripping over, sleep was winning, but luckily he made it to the living room. Further back was the kitchen, and there he could clearly see Logan’s figure against the dull reflection of light in a window, broad muscular shoulders and a strong back. He usually slept without a shirt; Wade thanked the heavens for that.
“Mmm, thirsty honey badger aren’t ya?” asked the mercenary with a soft voice, seeing the beer Logan was nursing in his hand, the man had heard him approach due to his enhanced senses, so he wasn’t surprised when Wade proceeded to hug him from behind and kiss him on the cheek.
“Did I wake you?” asked Logan, turning to caress Wade’s cheek with his free hand. Nights with the mercenary were his favorite; no masks or fake bravado. When they were tired, they were themselves, simple and sappy.
Wade smiled softly . “Yeah, it’s hard to sleep without my personal pillow,” he said while poking Logan’s chest. “Bad night?” he whispered.
Logan just nodded and took a sip of his beer. Wade watched him, trying to analyze what he was feeling, knowing his boyfriend wasn’t one for many words. But to his surprise, Logan spoke . “I feel restless; I don’t know why,” he sighed, pulling Wade towards him to rest his forehead on his partner’s shoulder.
“Mm, the weather? It must suck to have that metal skeleton in the cold, right? It’s like having screws in your knees? I’ve never had them; it’s something Blind Al told me,” Wade added, concerned, beginning to formulate a plan to solve that problem.
“Yeah, but s’ not just that; I feel odd,” Logan confessed
Wade sighed and kissed his head while lowering his voice, wanting to relax his partner. “You know, before I met you, I had bad nights, and when alcohol didn’t work, I had something that helped,” he mentioned, pointing to the bottle in Logan’s hands . “Come on,” he said, taking his boyfriend’s hand, who left the bottle on the counter and followed him to their room.
Logan sat on the bed while Wade searched for something in all the closets and drawers they shared. After a few minutes, he squealed excitedly as he pulled out a pink blanket. It looked thick and fluffy. Logan just tilted his head in confusion; maybe it had some sentimental value? He said nothing because Wade’s intentions were genuine; His determination showed he wanted to help him, and that alone warmed his soul.
“Okay, okay, hear me out! I know it looks like just a blanket, but it’s more than that!” Wade explained excitedly and then looked at Logan quickly, who was still sitting there confused. “Lie down quickly!” he ordered. Logan was exhausted, so he didn’t refute and followed Wade’s command, who quickly spread the blanket and threw it over him with a little effort. The moment the fabric touched Logan’s skin, he understood. He felt it was filled with something that made it heavy. That plus the soft texture… it was extremely cozy. The weight created a light pressure on him, it was weirdly grounding and indeed generated more warmth than a normal blanket. Wade tucked him in with a smile.
“How is it, peanut?” he asked, somewhat anxiously, realizing that maybe a blanket wasn’t enough. He felt a bit silly, yet Logan looked at him with adoration.
“S’ nice, bub, ” said Logan, trying to pretend he didn’t feel extremely comfortable, but a happy sigh that escaped his lips betrayed him, Wade could easily read his expressions.
“Awww, kitty! You like my blanket? It’s all yours; I don’t use it anymore because sleeping with your stupidly strong arms around me does the job,” he said, laughing sweetly and stroking Logan’s hair the way he liked it. If that soft laugh wasn’t Logan’s favorite sound, he didn’t know what could be.
“It could be better,” he pointed out while raising the blanket. Wade looked at him in confusion but couldn’t respond because Logan grabbed his arm and pulled him onto the bed, making Wade’s head rest on his chest with a yelp. He adjusted the blanket and hugged Wade, who was laughing once more. His laughter was contagious, so Logan was suddenly also bursting into one
They talked about everything and nothing for a few minutes in whispers; the city sounds were soothing and familiar. The blanket’s weight, combined with Wade’s and a newfound warmth, not only physical but also deep within himself, helped Logan relax, suddenly feeling his eyelids heavy with sleep. He stroked the mercenary’s side before moving down to whisper, “Love ya’, thanks,” to which Wade responded with a short kiss and a happy hum.
And so, all tangled up under that pink blanket, they drifted into sweet sleep together, resting better than ever before. It felt like they were finally safe, in a secret spot where nothing could reach them, their past, their nightmares, all went far away, the pain secondary to the soft, happy beats of their hearts in sync and the soft snores of Mary puppins who hopped on the bed and cuddled up at their feet.
