Prince Jake was undeniably attractive. Portraits of him were strewn across every adolescent’s room in the kingdom. Stories of encounters with him were enough to get you legendary status in most villages. Working at the castle was seen as the most desirable job. If only for the chance to catch a glimpse of the prince. He was alluring. He was stunning. He was unattainable.
Joel was the son of a cook. An apprentice to his father. He was pretty, sure. But the kind of pretty that was attainable. The kind of peasant pretty that farm hands wished they were. Shaggy blond hair that got in his eyes while he washed vegetables and sky blue eyes that counted each stone on the path to the local market. Local girls his age liked to stare at him while he purchased new meats from the butcher for stew.

Cale parks the car and slowly climbs out, stretching his cramped limbs and back. It had been a long drive from Bozeman, about an hour or so, and that was after a couple hours on a plane. Nate’s clambering out of the passenger seat, also stretching his body out. Cale walks around to the trunk and grabs their bags. “Go inside, I’ve got this,” he instructs Nate.
Nate hesitates. “You sure?”
“Go,” Cale says, smiling. “I know how excited you are to see him.”
