    Summary

Lydia doesn't recognize herself as she looks at herself in her white wedding dress. All she can think about is escape away from the new life she had made from herself and the comforts of an old house of creature comforts that happen to include a demon.

[She felt a pang of anger at having her own relationship judged by a dead man who murdered his own wife, the same dead man who tried to con her into marrying him so he could go on a killing spree.

“What the Hell would you even know about my being happy?” She asked, annoyance filling her voice as she glared at him.

It further annoyed her when he smiled at her.

“Babe I can tell when you’re happy and when you’re not. You’re happy when you play music, when you sit in your room reading a book while it rains outside, you’re happy feeding birds and trying to befriend crows and ravens by offering them food and stupid trinkets you have. You’re not happy when captain rat tail over there is telling you what to wear and commenting on it when you laugh too loudly at a party.”

He spoke too seriously, the way he looked at her as he spoke was….She looked away feeling something else entirely now, something indescribable that just left her feeling confused, maybe a bit angry at herself, at the entity sitting beside her expressing care for her, an interest nobody else had ever really bothered showing.

She startled when she felt a hand over top of hers, she stared down at the pale almost grey skinned hand touching hers, a thumb gently brushing against her skin. She thought about her bailed wedding, this bizarre sign from the universe feeling she’d had when she had seen him standing behind her in the mirror, felt the weight of his hands on her shoulders.

Against the alarm bells sounding in her mind she raised her gaze up to meet his again, he looked so human for something so incredibly nonhuman, the façade of being a jackass was for the moment dropped and she could feel how much he cared or pretended he cared. ]
