Work Text:

Mitsuya could only stare.

And stare.

And stare.

And stare.

At some point, he might open his mouth like he was about to say something, and end up shutting it like he couldn't find the words to say.

What should he say?

"Isn't it cute?"

Among all adjectives, cute might not be his choice of word to describe the man before his eyes.

Cool, absolutely.

Handsome, definitely.

Hot, he also thought secretly.

But cute was something that you used to describe your sister's toys, or the cartoon pattern on their clothes, or, or—literally anything but, whatever is this.

It was precisely the question that eventually came out.

"What is this?"

Draken grinned sheepishly, lifting the items in his hands with so much pride. "Matching pajamas."

When Mitsuya proposed the idea of Draken spending the night, he expected the night to go like any other night he spent in Draken's.

Them, in their T-shirt, or maybe their hoodie, anything casual that was comfortable enough for them.

They weren't pajamas people, so to speak.

They grabbed any clothes that seemed fitting for sleeping and that was all.

Shorts and old tees, training pants and hoodies.

"Where did you even get the idea?" Mitsuya examined the outfits closely.

Draken had picked the most unexpected colors for them. If Draken had never said anything about the pajamas for them to wear, Mitsuya wouldn't think they would wear the stripe pattern in pastel pink and orange.

Those were more like something that Luna and Mana would wear instead. Mitsuya was almost sure they owned something akin to these in their drawer.

"Uh, well," Draken scratched the back of his head, like he hadn't prepared himself for the question. He intentionally avoided Mitsuya's eyes, when he mumbled, "It seems fitting for the pajamas party."

Mitsuya blinked, he had to mishear. "The what?"

"I know your sisters have something like this in different colors, so I guess, we can all wear matching pajamas when we do a sleepover."

Out of all the reasons why Draken bought them the matching pajamas, none of them came closer to the real reason.

"You bought these for a sleepover with my sisters?"

"Yeah."

"Like when they visit me?"

"Uh-uh."

"So that we all can match?"

"Well, now that you say it out loud, I know, it sounds ridiculous," Draken coughed awkwardly, like he just realized that his idea was quite laughable.

To other.

While the only reason Mitsuya didn't have any proper reaction, was because he was at a loss of words.

He and Draken had been dating for almost five years. He befriended him even longer than that.

Mitsuya would say, he knew Draken the most, he knew Draken like no other. And yet, he could never predict when Draken pulled something like this.

He knew, Draken loved Luna and Mana like they were his own sisters. But even, Mitsuya had never thought of doing something like this. He loved having his sisters around, even after he moved out to his own apartment. And yet, Draken thought of something better to make their visit more fun. Like, he went so far and beyond to make Mitsuya's sisters happy, even with the consequences of appearing ridiculous to others.

"I just think, it'll look good if we take some pics together," Draken explained.

Mitsuya knew how much Draken loved immortalizing the moments of his cherished ones. He could testify that Draken took a bunch of pictures of him, in extensions, his sisters since they often hung out around them.

His boyfriend could just have a normal and casual movie night the day Mitsuya's sisters visit like they used to do.

And yet.

Here he was holding two matching pajamas to amuse his sisters.

If Mitsuya had just been a little of head over heels for Draken before, then by now he would announce himself a total lost cause.

How could he be so lucky to have Draken in his life?

As cheesy as it sounded?

"You know," Draken apparently took it upon himself when Mitsuya fell silent, longer than he seemed to anticipate. "Mana had been pestering you to get something matching since forever. I always want that too. When I saw these on sale, I knew I should get them pronto. I thought maybe, we can finally, you know, make her wish come true or something—"

Mitsuya burst into laughter.

Draken suddenly looked up. Mitsuya didn't know what kind of face he made, but something on his expression had successfully made Draken duck his head, embarrassed.

Not fast enough, that Mitsuya missed the redness slowly coloring his cheeks, before he muttered almost unheard.

"You don't have to wear it if—"

Mitsuya moved swiftly, snatching the orange-striped pajamas from Draken's hand and holding them up to his chest. Draken's fixation on hugging Mitsuya whenever possible had paid off—the pajamas fit perfectly, both in size and color.

Draken's attentiveness to others was truly remarkable.

As Mitsuya gazed at his reflection in the mirror, his fingers gently caressed the orange-striped fabric.

Instead of trying to see how exactly the pajamas would appear on him, Mitsuya caught Draken's eyes on him.

"You're giving it to me," Mitsuya addressed his gaze, grinning as he hugged the pajamas. "No takebacks."

Mitsuya didn't give Draken any chance to respond, proceeding to pick up his phone on the nightstand, taking some selfies with his pajamas, purposefully getting Draken in the background too.

He fumbled with the device for a while, before a satisfied smile bloomed on his face.

A series of pings that signalled the incoming messages.

"Be prepared though," Mitsuya grinned, putting down his phone, before he walked towards the bathroom. "You're gonna have one hell of a sleepover, next week."
