The Map Never Lies

Summary:

Remus and James really should have taken more precaution with keeping their relationship secret
Written for Moonchaser Week, Day 2. Relationship Reveal

Notes:

I forgot to write notes for this fic so
Remember JKR is a bitch with harmful beliefs, but my enjoyment of writing harry potter fanfic doesn't benefit her. No one makes any profit from the writing of my fanfic, not me, not jkr, and not Hermione. This is al for fun and again, fuck jkr
I am mildly dyslexic, so be warned!
Enjoy :)

Work Text:

Remus smirked at James as they slipped away from the Gryffindor Party together. Once they were out of the common room, and the portrait door closed behind them, James grabbed his hand and leant into his arm slightly. Someone, probably Sirius, had spiked one of the bowls of punch. James had a bit to drink and was tipsy, it wasn't like Remus was in any better of a state.

James laughed slightly as they hurried through the empty halls. There were several spots they tended to go to, but their favourite was an old storage closest hidden behind a tapestry. It was mostly empty, and they were pretty sure it was only them that ever used it.

Remus pulled the tapestry to the side and James pushed the door open. He pulled Remus in behind him. They both laughed slightly as James pushed Remus against the door to close it. He wrapped his arms around Remus' neck slightly and smiled. He laughed and settled his hands on James' waist.

Remus bent his head down just slight and kissed him. James almost melted into his arms and Remus flipped them around. He felt James gasp just slightly against his lips and pulled back slightly.

James whimpered slightly and blushed as Remus gripped his waist tighter.

"You good there?" Remus asked. James gasped and blushed more. Remus laughed slightly and waited for him to catch up.

"Yeah, I'm good," he said finally.

"Good," Remus said. He leant back in and kissed James again. He pushed into him slightly and tried to pull Remus closer. Remus smiled into the kiss.

James was the one that pulled back that time and Remus backed off him slightly. He was taking deep breaths and looked flushed. Remus gently rubbed at James' sides, offering him a little bit of support.

"Don't stop kissing me," James said. Remus laughed slightly but nodded at him. He leant back in and James pulled him down.

The door flung open.

Remus pulled back, his hands grabbed onto James' waist tighter and dragged him back with him. James turned slightly in his hold at looked at the door. Remus followed his lead and looked to their interrupters.

"Shit," James said.

"Shit," Remus agreed.

"What the fuck?" Sirius asked.

"What?" Peter asked, the map hanging loosely in his hands.

"Come on Pete! You're the only one that didn't swear, where's the fun in that?" James asked pouting slightly. Remus laughed and ducked his head down. Peter laughed too, though slightly awkwardly. He wasn't the biggest fan of tipsy people.

"So um, what the fuck?" Sirius asked again. James looked back to Remus, his eyes wide in question. Remus shrugged. It wasn't like they could really deny it anyway.

"Surprise!" James said after a moment.

"Again, once more, what the fuck?" Sirius asked. James shrugged and Remus laughed again.

"Can we have a moment?" Remus asked.

"No," Sirius said as Peter said, "Sure." Remus looked up and met Peter's eye.

"Sure," he said again, pulling Sirius back easily. The door closed and James and Remus detangled from each other. They took a moment to catch their breath and sort themselves out. Remus helped straighten James' shirt out and kissed his cheek.

James grabbed his hand, and opened the door.

Sirius and Peter were both staring right at them. Peter had the map folded up in his hand and Remus sighed. That explained how they'd gotten caught.

"So, surprise," James said again, squeezing Remus' hand slightly.

"You two snuck off to hook up?" Sirius asked.

"We've been dating for a while," Remus told him, pulling James slightly closer to his side.

"You didn't tell us?" Sirius asked. Peter smiled at them.

"Congratulations guys, you've been dancing around each other for years," he said. James blushed and Remus laughed slightly.

"Thanks, he didn't get the hint for a while," James said, grinning at Peter as he leant into Remus' side.

"I'm not sober enough to find out two of my best friends are dating," Sirius complained. Remus laughed slightly.

"We'll meet you back at the common room," James said. Peter nodded and offered them the map. Remus grabbed it from him and nodded slightly. They awkwardly stood there as Peter and Sirius left. After a moment James pushed the door shut.

They turned to each other, both trying to keep a straight face. It didn't last, they both started laughing.

"Forgot they had the map," James said. Remus laughed slightly and nodded, gently tapping it against his arm. James laughed slightly and pulled it from him. The map got dropped onto one of the empty shelves.

"Forgot they'd notice us missing," Remus said. James shrugged slightly and laughed again.

They'd only wanted to keep it a secret so it was more fun. They didn't mind if their friends knew, though they were going to have to tell the others now Sirius and Peter knew. They could deal with all that once they got back to the party. It wasn't something they'd need to rush.
